CHAPTER 179

Dianna had been watching the allosaur's feet, and the carnivore wasn't giving any indication that it was leaving. It had just been standing there the whole time. Dianna shifted her weight and looked across to Seth. Right beyond the cover of the Jeep there was a baseball sized rock sitting in the dirt. Making eye gestures she caught Seth's attention, but it was clear he didn't know what she wanted.

Dianna turned her mouth right against Kyra's ear and whispered, "tell him to throw the rock."

Kyra shifted toward Seth and relayed the message.

Seth spotted the rock and then gave his mom a look that said, "are you sure you want me to do that?"

Dianna nodded and mouthed, "yes."

Seth reached out from beneath the Jeep. His hand moved slow. What, in actuality, was more of a foot felt like two meters. As his palm closed around the rock he slid it towards him, working hard not to make any scraping sounds. He pulled the rock in and looked at his mom once more.

Dianna nodded again.

Seth sighed internally and shifted himself to the edge of the Jeep until his shoulder was in plain view. Cranking his arm he lobbed the rock through the grass and pulled himself back in.

The rock whipped through the blades and hit the dirt with a thunk. The allosaurus snorted and let out a bark. Dianna watched the dinosaur's toes stiffen and its feet shift. The beast growled, and it began to walk around to the other side of the Jeep.

Seth felt the ground thud beneath him as the allosaurus tromped over to his side of the vehicle. Its feet stopped in front of him, and there was a thwack as its tail struck the Jeep.

The allosaurus waited. It did not move.

"God damn it," Dianna thought. "Get the hell lost."

The allosaurus remained still. It stood for another minute without doing anything. Slowly the dinosaur's feet shifted and it crouched alongside the vehicle again. Now Seth was the one getting a close up of its flaring nostrils.

The allosaur's tone had evolved from curious to aggressive. Its teeth snarled, and it let out a bellow.

Seth recoiled and covered his ears. "Holy shit!"

The allosaurus slammed its body against the Jeep and rocked it up on two wheels. It snorted and did it again, lifting the vehicle higher this time. The carnivore wedged its foot against the CJ7 and did it again, this time kicking with its leg. The Jeep lifted and groaned and then clunked on its side, leaving Dianna, Seth, and Kyra fully exposed.

Kyra and Seth were screaming and clambering over each other to back away from the allosaurus as its foot crashed down right where Seth had been laying. Dianna jumped to her feet and put herself between them and the dinosaur.

"Run!" she yelled.
