CHAPTER 245

Dr. Levine proceeded to the Huey with everyone else running to catch up. Marty reached her first, jumped ahead of her, and proceeded to walk backwards and talk at the same time.

"Are you sure about this, Rich? I mean, you don't even know this guy. Have you ever even heard of the Biosyn Corporation before?"

"Nobody is forcing you to come along."

"All I'm saying is there's something terribly suspicious about this guy. That picture could be a fake for all we know."

"Yes it could, and there's only one way to find out. Watch your step."

Marty's ankle snagged on a log sized chunk of driftwood, and he tumbled onto his back. Dr. Levine walked over him without skipping a beat. Through the bright morning sky Marty saw two hands shoot down at him. One belonged to Arby, the other to Diego. They snatched his arms and hoisted him to his feet. Both men steadied him and then Arby spoke.

"Hey, I'm with you, man, but you know how Dr. L can get. If I don't hop on that chopper my ass is walking back to civilization alone and with not so much even as a granola bar. For that matter it looks like you're in the same boat."

Diego patted Marty's back. "Is true. You kinda screwed." He gave a little smile, and then both men hurried behind Dr. Levine and Kelly who were already climbing into the large, rectangular, side door of the Huey.

Marty stared at the helicopter, letting out a long stressful sigh. He ran his hands through his six-inch long hair that had become messed over and full of sand. He tugged at his beard. Arby and Diego were now ducking into the Huey's interior. Dodgson remained at the side of the aircraft smiling back at him with his falsely charming grin while he sucked the last quarter inch of his cigarette in one drag.

"Shit." Marty trudged forward. "I never should have gotten out of bed this morning."
