The waiting was the worst part. Lucline sat with a spell ready to cast and watched the front door. She had done a Psjiic projected to a guard she had seen on the street and explained the situation to him. Even now, the guards of Bergama were out and looking for anyone that might be headed this way and up to no good. Two hours into their guard, Minrre sent a projection to her.
"Lucline." She called out, appearing in thin air.
"Oh, Minrre! Did Lobamog tell you what was happening?"
The Branch Leader was grave as she nodded. "Aye. I suspect it will be too dangerous to keep Riatira there. Is her mother present?"
Tira's mother stepped beside Lucline. "I'm here. I don't want her to go, but it's clear out house isn't safe enough for my child at this time. I can trust the Society to protect her while we amend that mistake?"
Minrre smiled. "A woman after my own heart. Yes, we will protect your child. Lucline, as you have an affinity with her, do you think Rasina would agree to keep her with the two of you?"
Lucline nodded. "She is fond of Tira as well. I won't speak for your niece but I know I have no objections."
"Very well. I will make the arrangements. Your former mentor is opening a portal between your home and the child's home. Pray get through it quickly as it requires great amount of power from multiple mages to maintain."
Lucline gasped in amazement. She had not thought to ever get to travel via a portal. "I'll go get Rasina. Wait, what about our friends that brought us to Bergama?"
"I have already messaged them and explained things. They will depart for Sentinel at dark. They asked me to tell you there is no hard feelings and to focus on protecting the 'kitten'."
Lucline blushed. She guessed Khajiit would call their young kittens. She knew herself well enough to know she was cat like even as a Breton.
"I'll see you tomorrow morning, Lucline. Bring the child under cover of darkness to the base so we can speak with her. I have a lead on the other matter, but I think it can wait for now. Swift travels, Lucline."
Minrre vanished, leaving Lucline alone with the family. She saw Tira's mother turn to her and talking gently to her. Tira did not seem overly upset to be leaving, indeed she looked excited for an adventure. Rasina came down the stairs with a pack filled with some clothes she was closing.
"I heard my aunt from upstairs. So we are taking Tira back home with us? She can use my mother's old room."
Lucline put a hand on her girlfriend's shoulder. "Thank you, Rasina."
Her partner leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. "I am fond of the girl as well, so it is no trouble. Besides, I like to see you trying to help people. It makes my heart all warm."
Soon, the portal appeared and Rasina took Tira through.
"Miss Dufrey, please take good care of my girl. I'll send for her just as soon as we can make sure there will not be a repeat of today's fiasco."
"I'll protect her to my very best efforts!" Lucline pressed a fist to her breasts before stepping through the portal.
