Disclaimer: I don't own Yu Yu Hakusho and if I did, I would not be here writing this little story.
Edited Last: 12/14/20
Story Format as always:
Youko's Thoughts: ^Insert annoying comment here ^
Kurama speaking to Youko in his head/his own thoughts: *Insert complaint about said annoying comment. *
Inner thoughts of other characters: 'Have you tried Pineapple Matcha? It's sooo good!'
Anything said in Sinhalese: "Why do you ask so many questions?!"
A Few Inventions from the Spirit Lab! (Really my creations...-cue evil laugh)
Detection Plant: Yet another device that Kurama has created, basically a hybrid of your typical human Ficus and demon plant. This plant upholds the ability to detect negative demon or spirit energy. Is also useful as a pet or guard "dog" and can communicate with whom it chooses.
To keep in mind (Non-spirit lab-related):
The Anrokku Isei of pain [ An-roku-Is-hi] (Unlock the power of pain): An evil, rare, powerful, tiny red seed. Used by the demon enemy Aiden against Aisha. The seed forces any dormant abilities to awaken but also awakens the ugliest of irrational emotions. Pain, fear, hate, and anger only allow its host's mental destruction to grow at a faster rate. Side effects vary species to species however include weakness, dizziness, headaches, confusion, vomiting, internal bleeding, burns, consistent bleeding, permanent psychological damage, and death.
PLEASE REVIEW, IT HELPS! Flaming is welcomed.

Chapter 22: Ghostly Reminders & A Red-Headed Apparition
(DAY ONE) 8:50 pm
Aisha's POV:
'If he hates me, he'll leave me alone then.'
I admit I feel guilty treating Kurama like that, but he needs to stay away from me. I don't need anyone meddling into my shitty problems…I have enough on my plate as it is. I tread quietly as I can to the window of our apartment. Through it, I spot my mother lazing on the living room couch, asleep in front of the TV.
'Thank god! Cranky hag is napping!'
Jamming the purple skull key into the lock, I sneak past her, into the master bedroom, and tiptoe to avoid waking my baby brother who's asleep in his crib. I hope he's eaten something while I was gone. Our household is a cramped, angry mess. My mother is a hoarder and it's rarely kept clean. People don't come to visit anymore; my parents have no friends and I'd rather no one from my school see how poorly we live. Aurora, my best friend is the only exception, since she knows about my home-life.
My mother is a stay-at-home mom, and my father has two jobs. He's the apartment manager and a security guard at night. He's only home during the weekends, so I don't spend much time with him. Although he manages the building, he doesn't own it. The owner did allow us three bedrooms. We have a master bedroom that belongs to my parents and brother, the second my younger sisters and I, and the third did to me. Though we didn't always have the third room around, in fact, we only got the extra space a few years ago. Long story short, this room is nicknamed the 'Ghost Room'. Why you might ask? Well for starters, nearly every night something illogical happens.
To set this place on the creep-o-meter, I hear freaky voices whispering my name, glare at shadow people walking by my window, and feel something sit on my bed and mess with my blankets. As freaky as this is, it only happens late at night, and oddly enough I'm not that afraid. I think my personal life is more of a nightmare, in all honesty.
In front of my old window is an indoor water fountain and this area also echoes, even if you try to walk quietly all is heard. So, when I do spot a shadow of a person now, without hearing a peep, I assume no one's there. Before, I would get up and search outside, but I'd always turn up empty-handed. Yay for paranoia.
Other annoying things have happened; even my best friend Aurora has experienced things here, both of us once saw a glowing orb. At least I know I'm not the only one who has seen some strange shiz.
Haunted or not, it's the only thing I can control in my life. The room is entirely decked out with anime, comic book heroes, animals, nature, and bands I adore. Although my wooden bed is in the other room, my pets, and my belongings are still in the strange room. For a while, I could put up with the weird occurrences, but in the end, stress really got the best of me. Sleep became a rare animal. I would have the same reoccurring nightmare several times a week- about some mysterious dude gruesomely cutting down my loved ones. Not exactly the kind of horror flick I'd want to watch willingly. Still, I wonder why these things happen to me? I'm not sure how long I have been able to sense paranormal things for, but maybe it has something to do with that soul fragment?

Flashback. 8:45 pm
Kurama's POV:
^Did she manage to sever a nerve? ^ The fox questions, quite amused.
*Does it matter? Even through all that unfounded rage, she did manage to point out my deeply rooted insecurities. *
^Do you not recall the fact that in this world, we are all a part of a comic book and animation show? She must know her material well then. ^
*As if I could forget something like that. It is something that will unnerve me for some time. Millions of people knowing about us...it is a terrifying thought. *
^That may be the case, but there is nothing one can do to change these factors. Besides that, I found her feisty mannerism more alluring than off-putting. It's obvious she's ripe for the picking-^
*Silence fox now is not the time to entertain thoughts about suppressed desires. You perverted creature. Don't you find her behavior strange; couldn't the seed be at fault? *
Youko chuckles, brushing off my annoyance. ^Lust and longing rarely rest, little Shuichi. How sweet, do you find yourself concerned? If her outbursts were under the influence of the seed, outcomes would have been more violent. I believe those were her own frustrations speaking, though she needs to be…better educated. ^
*Are you sure she didn't hurt your feelings? How childish of you. *
Incorrect little Shuichi, though teaching her to choose her words more carefully would be in both our favors. ^
*Youko, I will not permit any foolish behavior. She's not in the right state of mind and you fooling around will only make her more hostile towards us. *
^Do not act as though these feelings are solely mine, for it is your longing too, little Shuichi. Denial will only harbor further confusion…besides, I always get what I desire. ^
I can't believe I must endure this ridiculous inner conflict yet again! I don't know how much more of this I can handle. Curse that clumsy ogre, perhaps I should cause bodily harm to that incompetent fool after all. Perfect, my own past life is more of an uncontrollable loudmouth then I ever thought possible.
After Aisha 'gracefully' slammed the door in my face, irritation flared up within me, my resentment towards my forced bi-polar like state is allowing my composure to slip further. Though when she commented about my racial appearance, I couldn't help but feel confused. That was utterly random, was that also supposed to be an insult of some kind?

Present time. (DAY TWO) 2 am
Once I finish scouting the area, I decide to figure out which apartment window belongs to Aisha, for I will need to know her exact whereabouts and to report them to Koenma. Once I can get ahold of him that is. Oddly, my cellphone calls are not going through to either Koenma or Botan.
When I finally locate her window, I use the aid of my plants and quietly rise myself two stories up. As I peer into the window, I'm taken back by the variety of decorations. Posters of nature, animals, cars, superheroes, and anime blare even on the ceiling. I continue to gaze in the room, you can say the unique sight compels me to do so.
An impressively enormous mirror and marvelously carved dresser catches my attention, photos, stickers, and other various things cover over half of its glass. I spot a drawn picture of Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei, and I. I smile to myself, pleased that people think of us in a praising manner, though I still can't help but feel strange about it.
Movement to the left catches my eye, a caramel-colored bunk bed. There are two sleeping young girls, one on the top, and another on the bottom.
A murmur carries to my ears and I glance directly below the windowsill. There, Aisha is lying on her side, and tears are streaming down her cheeks. A troubled expression is plastered in her face, and pain makes itself, apparent. Before I can even consider comforting her, a light flicker on, and I hide quickly, but the damage has already been caused.
A shriek rings out and I believe the entire complex awakens from it.
"Ghost! Oh My God! Daughter! Daughter! Wake up! Get up! I saw something-oh, my god!" A pale obese woman slightly resembling an older Aisha cries out.
I retreat to the roof as quickly as I can before I am spotted by anyone else.
*Aren't most people already sleeping at this hour? * I ponder to myself and glance at my watch. It reads 2:04 am.
Confusion, frustration, and weariness echo throughout the area and some windows are shut harshly, one person even shouts; "Shut the fuck up!"
"What-A ghost?" Aisha's sleepy voice softly questions. "Where?"
"The window!" The woman who I presume to be Aisha's mother shouts in fear.
"Mommy, why are you yelling?" One little child ponders sleepy.
Another girl pipes in; "Is it school time? Wait-ghost?!"
^So, a former thief turned red-headed stalker is now a red-headed apparition. It suits you well little Shuichi. ^ Youko chuckles.
*Silence you. I can't believe I was so careless. How am I a stalker? You really have become quite foolish. *
"Well, I'll check it out." Aisha states and I remain standing on the roof. Surprisingly, she musters all the strength she has left to pretend she isn't in pain and removes the window screen to peer out the window.
"Be careful! I am not taking you to the hospital if you fall!" Her mother comments, clearly terrified.
"I'm not that big a klutz, thank you very much. Besides, whatever you saw it's long gone. Your voice probably scared it shitless." She sounds monotone, but I can tell she is merely putting up a front.
"Mommy, I don't want to sleep in here!" The little curly-haired girl shouts; "I'm sleeping on the couch!"
"I don't like ghosts!" The smaller girl cries, "Can we sleep with you and daddy?"
"Okay, okay. I don't want you two sleep here, come. Aisha, where you sleep?" Her mother questions in a thick accent.
"I'm staying in here, besides the stupid ghost can't scare me off." Aisha states.
"Daughter, you shouldn't sleep in here, what if-"
"Oh, so now you're concerned. It's fine if Traya's going to sleep in the living room, and Chenara with you, there won't be space to sleep in your bed anyway. I really don't want to sleep on the floor."
"Fine! Do whatever you want! You no cry to me, I no help you! Come, you two sleep!" The mother shouts, not sounding the least bit pleased.
I catch movement in my ears and all the lights are shut off. Rushing water hisses and the scent of mango and coconut fill my senses. The pleasant scents mingle with Aisha's and I quickly realize she's taking a shower.
Soft suppressed sobs echo and I realize even with the trauma she went through today; she could cover up her anxiety and terror. Her voice was calm and evenly toned.
^Why does this human enjoy tormenting her psyche? ^
Sadness brushes over my heart, but I decide it's best to leave her alone.
^Perhaps, I can cheer her up. It would be divine to entertain-^
*What is wrong with you? Is that all you think about? * I grow more irritated with my former self.
^Are you blind, have you not seen the walls of this bedroom? There are far too many pictures of you and I-^
*Her younger sisters are also fans; you have no proof-*
^Fool, I suggest you adjust your sight and look again. ^
ˏ 𓏧 𓏲 𓏲 𓏲 𓋒 𓏲 𓏲 𓏲 𓏲 𓏧 ˎ
I can't fathom why Youko is so insistent, perhaps he simply wants to reason out his wicked desires. Stupid fox.
^As I stated before, deny your desire with every part of your being, but she must retain feelings towards us. Recall her cellphone? ^
*You can say the same about everyone else. She has pictures of the others too, or did you forget in that ridiculous fog of lust? You are reading into absolutely nothing. If she had any of those thoughts, I would have smelled some sort of sexual arousal. *
The fox continues to pester me, but I refuse to listen to him.
^Shuichi, you cannot avoid this for long. Keep in mind of my own abilities. ^
*A foolish fox you are, and to believe you, despised humans, at one point in your life. *
Youko only chuckles and retreats to the back of my mind.
For a moment, I debate if I should speak to Aisha, but I instead leave. Before taking off, I leave behind a red rose on her windowsill, and one of my detection plants. If anything tries attacking her, the plant will automatically react, and inform me.
"Goodnight Aisha." I mutter under my breath and take my leave.
Flashback. 5 minutes before.
Aisha's POV:
I'm almost grateful my mom woke me up because she thought she saw a ghost in my window. My dreams were filled with terrors, and I doubt I'll get any more peace for a while.
'Maybe I should get therapy again…though how can I talk about my crazy experiences? No sane person would believe me…'
I didn't feel any scary-ass presence like I would in the 'Ghost Room', so I'm not too concerned over it. Whatever my mom saw, I hope it wasn't trying to torment me too; my thoughts have already occupied that job.
After my shower and yet another mental break-down (I think this is becoming a daily routine), I decide to listen to my iPod and play a random song which happens to be 'Ow My Feelings' by Periphery.
" Lost the way
Feel the world below me
Painlessly ascend
Torn away dissolving the life I know
Grasp the light
Feel the glow enfolding
Exaltation
Isolate the answers and truth from lies "
Laying on my bed, the music soothes my ears, and something brushes up against me. I almost scream but cover my mouth and stare in shock at the moving plant-petting me?!
"What the hell?!" I whisper harshly to myself and spot a red rose.
"Wow. So Kurama's the freaking ghost. Just wow." I hold the plant up and pick up the rose with the other hand.
" Lost the way
The path unravels before me
Unholy day I'm letting go "
'At least Kurama scared the shit out of mother, haha…'
Through time these cries distort the view
Hopeless misdirection
We all defy the chance to know
This world is not the one I knew
Holding tight to our beliefs
Awake to what we have become "
As the lyrics melt into random muttering, my mind finally falls into a peaceful sleep. This is short-lived. I bolt awake to the sheering shoulder pain from before. Tears are streaming down my face and the nightmares are faintly pricking at my brain. Though, this time there is nothing to calm me down because once again I feel an impression on the bed. Someone or something is sitting on the edge, and I can't see it.
The urge to scream grows with each haunting memory plaguing my mind, but I'm awake and can't do anything to stop it.
To be continued...
My notes:
Almost gave into peace, but I decided against it. Tormenting a character is kinda fun. (Not in real life though!) This chapter is 8 pages long on 12 inch font. As always, please feel free to review, and let me know what you think.
Rock Out and Peace On!
