Chapter 35: Enter YYH Crew, Come Prepared! I
(DAY 6) 9 am
Third Person POV:
"That vile little fool, forcing me to come to another human world..." Hiei grumbles to himself as he exits a portal, and walks down an empty alley, recalling what occurred 24 hours ago.
*Flashback* (DAY 5)
YYH World; Spirit World, Lord Koenma's Office:
Third Person POV:
Returning from their time-consuming mission in snowy Russia with the silly carrot head and the detective, (who were brawling the entire trip back)- Hiei was very irritated.
"I can't believe you have the gull to force me to chaperone a drunken detective and a bumbling oaf." Hiei growled as he entered Lord Koenma's office.
"Heey, I resssemble that remaaark! At least we kicked ass! Not my fault Kuwabara got in the freaking way of having a little fun-" Yusuke's speech is slightly slurred and is swiftly interrupted, by a flying fist to the top of the head from Kazuma.
"I can't believe how reckless you are Urameshi and who the heck are you calling an oaf you freaking shrimp?!" Kuwabara shouted back while trying to also whack the fire ice demon.
"Get back here and take it like a man!" Kuwabara cried out, as he chased Hiei, who soon enough smacked him in the back of the head. "Ow! You jerk!"
"Hn. And you're still an idiotic human." Hiei coolly commented, causing the tall carrot top to fume. Yusuke busted out in laughter, pointing at Kazuma, mocking him.
Yusuke and Kazuma only quieted down when Koenma cleared his throat and questioned; "Are you guys done yet?"
"The midget started it!"
"It's not my fault this moron is dull-minded. Why did you insist on me accompanying them, and not the fox? I'm sure this would have been resolved faster, and without him." Hiei grumbled motioning his thumb to Kuwabara.
"Why you little-!" Kazuma fumed, once again prepared to smack the fire/ice demon. "As your puny ass already knows, I did help in taking that stupid demon down!"
"Huh. More like you provided entertainment for the enemy to enjoy." Hiei retorted smirking, and Kuwabara lunged at him.
Koenma didn't reply because the nasty stench of alcohol overwhelmed his nostrils and Yusuke swaying side to side with a giddy smile on his face grabbed his attention. "Yusuke, are you- actually DRUNK?!"
"Maybe a... little." Said male replied with a sheepish laugh.
The mini ruler of Spirit world screeches clearly enraged. "Now is NOT the time to be fooling around! I can't believe you!"
The young ruler looked quite annoyed but went on to say; "To answer your question Hiei, Kurama was already sent on a task and Yusuke needed your help." He paused, then asked while pointing at Yusuke; "Why the hell is he drunk anyway?!"
Hiei chose to glare, and internally Koenma reels back; so, he glanced over to Kuwabara.
'Why does he have to look so menacing nearly all the time?' The young king thought to himself.
"I tried to stop him, but he apparently drank half a bottle. Hiei was with him though."
Hiei scoffed, rolling his eyes; clearly annoyed. "Whatever Yusuke does is not my responsibility."
"Damn it!" The prince shouted. "This is a serious issue you guys!"
"Ogre! Get Yusuke some water, and something to eat." The young Koenma commanded.
"R-right on it sir!" George shouted back and scurried away.
"I demand an explanation, Koenma." Hiei stated, seemly bothered.
"Waat's da problem, anywaaay Pacifier breaatth?" The handsome punk questioned in a slur, slamming his hand down on Koenma's desk and stumbling a bit in the process. "Wasssn't this gig 'posed to be a one-time thing? I mean I did quit almost a yeaarr ago."
"I TOLD YOU NOT TO CALL ME THAT! You drunken idiot." Koenma hissed in irritation. Kuwabara sighed, Yusuke snickered, and Hiei cracked a grin.
Koenma takes a deep breath, and calmly states; "I'm aware of that Yusuke, but I was in dire need of your help. Unfortunately, things have already gone from troubling to massively ugly in a matter of a few days..."
"Go on..." Hiei mumbled.
"Shouldn't we wait for Urameshi to sober up?" Kuwabara asked.
"It's his own fault." Hiei uttered.
"Fuck, my buzz was killed the moment Koenma said something's gotten ugly. Now, just how bad are we talkin'?" Yusuke stated as he munched on a rice ball George had brought to him.
"And here I thought the detective was going to be a useless body count." Hiei stated, slightly smirking. Yusuke shot Hiei a silly smirk and shrugged.
"Urameshi, you shouldn't have been drinking anyway! We're underage...and-" Kuwabara paused, scanning the room. "-Hey where's Botan and Kurama anyway?" Typically, the fox would throw in a piece of his wisdom... or a smart alec rebuttal, while Botan would chide Yusuke for being disrespectful.
"He had finished his task for me earlier than expected and I sent him and Botan ahead on the next mission..." Koenma trailed off, appearing flustered.
"Hurry it up and spit it out already Koenma." Yusuke stated, annoyed. He just wanted to this BS over with.
"Right, right. I was hoping Kurama and Botan would be able to wrap things up quickly while you three were preoccupied but, things all over are worsening. Portals and holes are opening up randomly in the human world, leading to other dimensions as well as our Demon world, bodies of these missing humans are found later on completely mangled, not to mention demons of the undead are roaming about and another evil demon has resurfaced once again."
"Whoa, and here I thought ripping down Demon world 's border was a big deal before..." Yusuke commented, looking overwhelmed. "Though, evil fuckers popping up, ain't anything new."
"Wait by the undead...do you mean like zombies?!" Kuwabara questioned in panic.
"These demons aren't the occasional cretins that wreak havoc in the Forest of Fools?" Hiei asked, curious.
"No, they aren't, and they seem impossible to halt." Koenma glumly responded.
Kuwabara and Hiei were just about to say something to oppose the young king until Yusuke blew up.
"What the hell do you mean?! You haven't even given us the chance to kick their asses, binky boy?!"
Disregarding his punk ass response, Koenma went on to state.
"Many of the Special Defense Force members and Demon volunteers have been slaughtered and from what was reported by them these undead creatures can merge with freshly departed souls and still attack, even if their remains have been rendered to ash, they will reform themselves."
"But I-" The young ruler doesn't allow Yusuke to finish his statement.
"However as disturbing as these events are, they really won't be any of your concerns, for you all have different matters to face."
"Where is Kurama? Is he in the demon world right now?" Hiei asked in a demanding tone, concern flickering in his eyes. He wasn't able to sense him with his third eye, and it was concerning him.
"I was getting to that. No, he isn't there; in fact, I should probably let you all know that we aren't the only ones with a human realm."
"So, you mean there's another human world?" Yusuke asked, bewildered.
"Yes. However, I am unsure if there is another Demon and Spirit world there. This realm is quite strange, and functions differently." Koenma added. "As of right now, Botan has been closing the portals that have been opening in the other realm, so my hands are fairly tied with attempting to stabilize just our worlds."
"Whoa, that's kind of freaky if you ask me..." Kuwabara muttered under his breath, while Hiei commented, "Great, more excessive weaklings to deal with."
Kuwabara glared at Hiei, but the fire-ice demon brushed him off.
"I agree with carrot top over here." Yusuke said pointing to Kuwabara. He then sighed. "So, what's our mission this time; stop that evil asshole?"
"Wait a second, Koenma didn't you say that Kurama and Botan could handle it? Then why send us too?" Kuwabara asked, soundly skeptical. "Wouldn't it be better for us to help with those zombie-things?"
"Once again, I'm getting to that!" Koenma howled. "It would be useless to send you all to fight the undead because as of right now, they will only continue to regenerate. Stopping the enemy responsible for starting all this should be the priority. Now, even I don't know too much about who you will be facing, but their spirit energy readings seem to be over 500 years old. It may be a slim chance, but it is possible that Youko Kurama has dealt with them in the past, considering their ages."
"So that's why you send him ahead." Hiei stated, but thought to himself;
~This sounds interesting...~
"That isn't the only reason Hiei." The young king added. "Your mission is to not only defeat this demon but to protect a certain human from falling into the hands of the enemy no matter the cost, at least until we can make a stable enough portal to bring her here." Koenma stated.
"You want us to play keep away? Have we not done this shit before?" Yusuke grumbled.
"She isn't any ordinary human, if you don't protect her, and stop the demon; both our and their world will cease to exist." Koenma stated.
"Why exactly is this human so important in the first place?" Hiei asked, not exactly pleased.
"Is she in the other human world too?" Kazuma asked.
"Currently she is under the watchful eye of Kurama, but it won't be long until she will be attacked again. At first, I had documents that stated she was a demon, but the new information I was able to dig up, is that she's one of the last living hosts of a fragment of an ancient soul from our world. " The young ruler paused, adjusting himself.
"Her capabilities are yet to be determined, but her fragment can be used as a wicked power source. If our enemy gets ahold of her and breaks the seal on her soul fragment-well...nothing will be left living. This, my dad told me, was used to seal that soul's power, thousands of years ago; it was also a very tricky process to proceed with." Koenma held up a pink heart-shaped gem that had a soft glow to it.
"How the hell does a soul break into pieces? Wouldn't they just not exist anymore? If it was from our world originally, why did it end up in another world?" Yusuke asked.
"It's possible the individual soul was trying to escape, and the force of the two worlds broke it into fragments. Typically, a soul cannot survive being shattered like that, but although it's a rarity, it can surpass living expectations. My assumption is that the soul found multiple unlucky hosts, but could not come back together, and so was absorbed by the living creatures it picked." Koenma theorized, and that seemed to satisfy the group.
"You all must leave within a few hours; we have no time to waste." The young king commanded.
All three threw exasperated looks and protested in their own way.
"Fuck, you must be joking." Yusuke stared at the binky boy. "I haven't exactly worked off all the alcohol I drank earlier..."
"Aw, c'mon we just came back from a mission! Can't we get a break?" Kuwabara whined, feeling drained.
"This is ridiculous Koenma." Hiei growled, annoyed. "We will not be able to defend ourselves properly without some amount of rest. Do you wish to be held responsible for our demises?"
Small footsteps echoed in the room, and a little girl with long hair entered the office.
"Hey, short-stuff! Haven't seen you in a while!" Yusuke shouted, grinning at the small green-blue haired girl.
"Hello to you too Yusuke. Surely, sir, you can give them more time?" Sayaka the little grim reaper stated as she handed a file folder over to Lord Koenma. "Come on, look at them! Clearly, Yusuke isn't sober enough to read a book, let alone fight."
As panic-stricken as the brown-haired male was, he wasn't an unreasonable being. Noticing how dirty their clothing was, and how exhausted they appeared- he felt guilt. The fuming three-eyed demon and Sayaka had a point. Though in all honestly, he was afraid, his rationality wavered a bit. Forcing himself to calm down he stated;
"The most I can give you is a half a day... We just can't afford to use up any more time..."
"Better than nothing..." Kazuma mumbled while Hiei added;
"I still refuse to save more weak humans."
"Not including the other human world; you do realize that all 3 worlds will cease to exist? Koenma warned Hiei.
"I'm not running a charity service, Koenma." The fire-ice demon said in a cold tone.
"Charity or not, unless you wish to reside in nothingness, I suggest you take up the task."
Hiei wasn't exactly against the humans as much as he mouths off about them, he just didn't like the fact that he would be forced to run yet another task for Spirit World. In other words, he's more of a free spirit, and rather do his own damned thing.
"Damn it Hiei, I know you can be a little selfish jerk sometimes, but you're better than this!" Kuwabara scolded.
Hiei scoffed in response, "What the hell do you know ab-"
Yusuke budded in, putting his arm around Hiei's shoulder, and grinned. "Come on Hiei, as much as you claim to hate the humans, you know as well as I do-you still give a shit."
A slightly bewildered look graced the ice-fire demon's face, but he chose not to say anything. Instead, he backed away, leaning against a wall.
"I realize the world has been at stake several times throughout your term as Spirit Detective...but this is an essential duty. Not only for the sake of our realm but also for another Universe." The ruler responded, binky bobbing in his mouth.
A year had passed since Yusuke quit the gig of Spirit Detective. It was also the last time the four of them had any high-stake missions. Life was quite peaceful, or so they were led to believe.
Yusuke was finally engaged to Keiko and was running his own successful Ramen shop, while his fiancée went abroad for college visiting home on her breaks. The two kept in touch through phone/video calls, texts, and snail-mail.
Kazuma was studying to become a future member of the medical industry and visited Yukina whenever he had the opportunity to. They two kept in touch through letters and phone calls (though Yukina was still wary of human technology).
Hiei kept busy patrolling the Demon world border but split his time between Mukuro and visiting his younger twin sister. Occasionally, the fire-ice demon would hang out with Yusuke, Kurama, and Kuwabara (he did enjoy messing with Kuwabara).
Lastly, Kurama kept his mother and family happy, all the while keeping up his role as "The Perfect Son", his double life hidden. One day in the future he planned on moving back to Demon World, once he deems his family would be okay without his presence.
"Stupid shortie! You should be grateful to Koenma that you're not on probation any-" Kazuma started but Hiei punched the tall boy in the chin, causing him to stagger a bit.
"Hn. Fools should know when to keep their mouths shut." Hiei grumbled. "Not being able to properly fight, a weakling like you has no right to say whatever the hell he wants."
"Why you little-!" Kuwabara started, clearly not happy with the Jagan boy.
"It's not really that dumb ass's fault he's gotten soft." Yusuke guffawed.
Kazuma started to scream and tried to whack Hiei. "Who are you calling weak, short stuff?" He then turned to Yusuke and bellowed; "And just 'cause I study now doesn't mean I've gotten soft Urameshi; I'll prove it to you!"
"Now's not the time to be fooling around!" Koenma yelled his binky bobbing rapidly.
"Yeah, yeah go on binky breath..." Yusuke muttered, but thought to himself; 'I thought you were done with your long-ass speech already...'
"There's another thing you should know..." Koenma uttered.
"Well spit it out!" Yusuke demanded, annoyed.
"Remember how I told you about those portals and holes?"
"Yeah...what about them?" Kazuma questioned.
"Don't tell me..." Hiei started and only glared at Koenma.
"It's not as bad as you think..." The young king muttered but he didn't sound all that convincing.
"I can read minds, remember?" Hiei added, still glaring at him.
"Judging from his reaction, this is gonna make me want to punch you, isn't it?" Yusuke probed, irritation ringing in his voice.
To be continued...
My Notes:
Woo! Finally, the Yu Yu Crew will be on their way. I know it took many chapters, but this is a KuramaXoc story... This chapter is nearly 12 pages in 12-inch font. Anyway, let me know what you think and if you see anything that doesn't make sense.
Rock Out and Peace On.
