I got another follower for this fanfic!
That makes me happy!
I guess that means I should continue.
Though I would appreciate it if I got a review.
That way I know what I should focus on specifically.
Chapter 34: Magikoopa Tricks
After buying some items, our heroes were ready to scale the tower.
In DK's case, he bought a musical instrument.
A pair of bongos, to be precise.
It seemed some of the Toads liked to play music.
Musical instruments were surprisingly effective at fighting the Kong Family's foes. Just ask the Kremling Krew.
Alistair decided to play the bongos.
He had fun.
Perhaps when he grew up he could be a musician.
DK also purchased an upgrade for his coconut gun.
Having more ammo for his gun would definitely be useful. He could fire more coconuts before having to reload, which would cost him precious time.
This time, the party members would be Wario, Jade, Donkey Kong, and Jessica.
Two Gorerillas were standing guard at the tower entrance.
"It's the heroes!" exclaimed a Gorerilla.
They lunged at the heroes with their clubs.
But DK took them down.
It turned out they had some bananas on them.
DK was happy.
But he could enjoy those bananas after they had climbed to the top of the tower and defeated the guardian.
He needed to stay focused.
Snake Block Tower
In order to get around the tower, our heroes needed to use the titular snake blocks.
It was fortunate that they were there, or they wouldn't have a way to get past the bottomless pits.
And yes, they moved like snakes.
As soon as they reached a platform, they saw enemies that wanted to fight.
A Hacksaurus approached them.
It seemed that some dragons had taken to wielding axes.
Though in this case the dragon was more along the lines of a dinosaur.
He swung his axe at the heroes.
DK punched him in the face.
"Ouch!" exclaimed the dinosaur with the axe.
Perhaps he should attack from a longer distance. Donkey Kong's strength was no joke.
He decided to breathe fire.
Wario bit into him.
"Quit it!" demanded the Hacksaurus.
Jessica then froze him with an ice spell.
She figured that ice spells would work well against dinosaurs.
"Is it just me or did it just get colder in here?" asked the Hacksaurus.
"It's not just you." answered Jade.
Some Komodos were in the tower as well.
They too could breathe fire.
Luckily, they were only a threat in groups.
And the heroes had group attacks when they did gather in groups. Like Alistair's breath attacks, for example.
Jessica cast Crackle.
"Somebody install air conditioning in this tower!" demanded a Komodo. He was feeling pretty chilly.
Some Jargons appeared.
They were led by a Dragurn.
The Dragurn's jar contained a healing liquid.
Specifically, Amor Seco Essence.
So perhaps they should target the leader first.
Luckily, Dragurns were big targets. It wasn't hard to hit them, unlike metal slimes. Though they were naturally more resilient than their weaker Jargon cousins.
Donkey Kong hit the Dragurn in his big belly. They reminded him of the Kremling Krew, though to his knowledge they were allied with the Dragonlord and not King K. Rool.
"Oof!" exclaimed the Dragurn.
Some of the Jargons ran towards DK.
But he played his bongos before they reached him.
The Jargons were knocked over.
DK was not regretting his choice to buy them.
Some Dragonfries flew towards them as well.
They were capable of casting Sizz. So having some Nuts would be useful. Group healing was pretty handy.
"Ow!" exclaimed Jade. She knew better than to play with fire. Especially when she went up against fire-breathing dragons. Though nit all of them did breathe fire.
With the Dragonflies was a Drackal.
"Am I a dragon or a lizard?" asked a Drackal. He wasn't sure. Though he was rather big for a lizard.
"I guess you're a hybrid." answered Jessica.
"Maybe I am." answered the large enemy.
The Drackal charged towards our heroes.
But Wario punched him in the face.
"My beautiful face!" exclaimed the Drackal.
He then attempted to bite Wario, but Jade kicked him.
"Sorry, you're not eating him." apologized Jade.
He probably wouldn't taste good, anyways.
The Drackal was down for the count.
The Dragonfries flew towards them.
One of them prepared to shoot fireballs from his mouth.
But DK shot them down with his coconut blaster.
"I've been swatted!" exclaimed one of the Dragonfries that had fallen.
Donkey Kong was glad that he had bought an upgrade for his coconut gun. It was making dealing with flying enemies that much easier.
Though he did note that he didn't have to face them by himself.
The Orochi was waiting for them in an arena, behind a large green door.
It was green in color, which was appropriate.
He let out a roar.
And yes, this Orochi was male.
Alistair whimpered. This was one big monster.
Could our heroes take him down? They had faced trolls, dragons, and golems, but they only had one head.
DK hit the Orochi with coconuts.
The Orochi breathed poison in retaliation.
"What do you think of this creative liberty?" asked Orochi.
Of course, you could teach a monster virtually any skill you wanted in Dragon Quest Monsters. You just needed the scrolls. And perhaps the right monsters.
Our heroes scrambled to avoid the poisonous breath.
Jade punched the center head.
"You're giving me a headache!" exclaimed Orochi.
He attempted to swing his head at Jade, but she ducked underneath it.
Wario ground pounded Orochi.
The Orochi let out a roar, and some Mandrake Majors showed up to defend him.
"For Lord Orochi!" exclaimed one of the majors.
It seemed appropriate that he was summoning reptile enemies to assist him.
The Mandrake Majors lunged with their swords.
They also parried attacks with their shields as well.
There was also the fact that these dragons knew support spells.
These dragons were not weak enemies.
But they were vulnerable to ice.
Jessica froze them solid.
The hydra groaned.
DK then slammed into Orochi with his fists.
The hydra bit him in retaliation.
DK flinched.
The hydra then proceeded to breathe fire.
"Owww!" exclaimed Jessica. Those flames were hot, to be sure.
"Mamamia!" shouted Wario.
His overalls were set on fire, and he ran around. Even though he might be better off if he stopped, dropped, and rolled.
In the process, he crashed into the hydra.
Orochi let out a screech.
Alistair breathed ice on Orochi in retaliation for the fire breath.
He let out a roar.
Jade used Multifists on Orochi.
This was enough to take him down.
"How did I lose? I'm a great big hydra!" exclaimed Orochi. Theoretically it was impossible for the heroes to win.
"Even great big hydras aren't invincible." noted Jessica. Though their strength was impressive. Heck, she imagined not even the Dragonlord wasn't invincible despite what his minions thought.
The four of them left the tower.
It was a proud accomplishment taking down Orochi.
Though admittedly he wasn't a general. Just a guardian of one.
Rashaverak wondered how the heroes had defeated the hydra.
It didn't seem plausible.
But considering that they had defeated four of the generals, who knows what they were capable of?
She would want to keep an eye on them.
At Oho Oasis…
Since the Oho Jees were grateful for their help, they decided to offer them items and equipment.
"You our saviors! Buy, please!" exclaimed a Red Oho Jee.
"We have items! And weapons! And armor!" shouted a Blue Oho Jee. They had a lot of things.
They figured the heroes would appreciate that.
Since they were about to face Kamek, they decidedly were appreciative of the services that the Oho Jees were providing. He was one of Bowser's strongest minions, after all.
So they decided to check to see what they had for sale.
They made sure to buy some mushrooms.
There was a boss fight fast approaching, after all.
And they would want to be prepared for it. It was better to be safe than sorry.
Nera bought a slumber stick.
Putting her enemies to sleep could be pretty useful. It was great for crowd control. Though it usually didn't work well against bosses.
Ashlynn bought a wyvern wand.
Peasley bought a thunderbolt blade. It was pretty appropriate considering he had obtained Thunderhand.
Ruff bought a dragon bandana.
It made him feel a bit like a dragon.
Once they felt they had spent enough coins, our heroes approached the foreboding tower.
It certainly resembled Kamek.
At Kamek's tower…
At the tower entrance was a portrait of Kamek.
Inside the tower were Toadies.
Luckily, none of the party members were infants, so they didn't have to worry about being abducted by them. Though Ruff did look a bit like an infant.
But while they weren't in danger of being abducted, their ability to fly meant they needed ranged attacks to take them down.
They were capable of using magic, though it wasn't quite Magikoopa caliber.
There were also Burts hopping around the tower. But they would leave them alone if their pants were burned.
Standing guard were Captain Goomba, Captain Koopa, and Captain Shy Guy.
"Captain Goomba again?" asked Alena.
His persistence was admirable.
The captains pulled a lever and Bulky Bob-Ombs rolled down the tower.
"I really like our tower defense systems!" exclaimed Captain Koopa. It made defending the tower from the heroes so much easier.
Kamek wanted to make extra sure the heroes didn't win this time.
Personally, Captain Goomba would like to see the heroes get past those Bob-Ombs.
Our heroes had to be careful not to get hit by them. That would not be a pleasant experience. Especially given a Bulky Bob-Omb's size.
It was starting to feel a bit like Donkey Kong.
Speaking of which, they got the feeling that Donkey Kong was on a journey of his own.
Was he facing the Kremling Krew again?
Or was it the Tiki Tak Tribe? Or the Snowmads? You'd be surprised what decided to attack DK Island.
Luckily, our heroes managed to get past the Bulky Bob-Ombs.
The trio attacked the heroes.
"For Kamek!" exclaimed Captain Goomba.
But Alena stomped on the high-ranking Goomba.
"Ouch!" exclaimed the Goomba with a red flag.
Captain Koopa tucked into his shell.
He then spun around the battlefield.
He was certainly faster than normal Koopas.
Hence him being the captain.
"Ouch!" exclaimed Ashlynn.
She would be careful to leap over it next time.
Captain Shy Guy pulled out a pitchfork.
He then swung it at the heroes.
"Take this!" exclaimed the captain of the Shy Guys.
"Ooh!" shouted Ruff. That pitchfork was pointy.
Ashlynn had an idea.
She used Boom to launch the three captains down the stairs.
"What is she planning?" asked Captain Goomba.
She then pulled the lever that the three captains had used earlier.
"Oh. I get it. Clever." said Captain Koopa.
The three captains were hit by a Bulky Bob-Omb.
The three of them were knocked out.
"We're really not doing well against the heroes, are we?" questioned the Goomba captain.
"I thought we would win this time!" exclaimed the shy Guy captain. But he had thought wrong.
Kamek was sitting on a throne.
It seemed he couldn't rely on the captains to handle things.
After all, hadn't Captain Goomba already failed twice?
"You will rue the day you chose to defy the Koopa King!" exclaimed Kamek.
He pulled out his wand.
Kamek fired some magic blasts at the heroes.
"Ouch!" exclaimed Ruff. He never thought shapes could be used as a weapon. But you learned something new every day.
Alena used Firebrand on him.
"Hey! Don't burn my robe!" demanded Kamek. It was a nice robe. Though he did admit to himself that he had spares if he needed them.
Kiryl had an idea.
He decided to cast Bounce on himself.
This reflected the magic blasts.
"Ouch!" shouted the Magikoopa.
Kamek was surprised at the occurrence.
The thought of his own magic being used against him never occurred to him.
"What just happened?" asked Kamek.
Perhaps he needed to change his strategy.
He summoned a Thwomp to crush Kiryl with.
"Ouch!" exclaimed Kiryl. Unfortunately, he did not dodge it in time. That Thwomp had been rather fast.
Luckily, he was not knocked out by the attack. Though he did make sure to take a medicinal herb afterwards.
Ashlynn cast Oomph on Ruff.
He then used Hatchet Man on Kamek.
This did a lot of damage to the wizard.
But lucky for Kamek, he had learned a spell that could dispel enemy's buffs.
It was known as Disruptive Wave.
Ashlynn cast Acceleratle, but Kamek dispelled it.
Ruff lost his Oomph as well.
"Aww…" said Ashlynn. So much for speeding themselves up so that they could overwhelm the wizard.
Likewise, Kiryl lost his magic shield. So he could be targeted by spells again.
It seemed Kamek had prepared for the fight.
They couldn't rely on buffs to carry them through the fight, that was for sure.
Though if Kamek had to spend a turn to dispel their buffs, it could give them an advantage.
Ruff bit into his leg.
"Ow!" exclaimed Kamek.
However, he turned Ruff into a Goomba.
Ruff decided to switch out until the spell wore off.
He was very vulnerable as a Goomba.
Kamek summoned some Toadies to assist him.
The Toadies flew towards our heroes.
But Nera cast Crackle to freeze them.
"Now I know how a snowman feels!" exclaimed a Toady that had been frozen.
Kamek was hit by the spell as well.
"It appears I'm not the only spellcaster." noted Kamek.
He decided to cast a Boom spell.
It seemed like his best option for taking on a group of heroes.
"Ouch!" exclaimed Nera.
Ashlynn swapped with Peasley.
He then used Thunderhand on Kamek.
Kamek ended up being zapped, naturally.
For a moment, his skeleton was visible.
He decided to cast a healing spell.
This fight was wearing him down.
He cast Midheal.
"That's better." answered Kamek.
But Alena punched him and knocked him to the ground.
She then launched fireballs at him.
This was enough to finish the fight.
"What? I lost? Me?!" exclaimed Kamek.
It seemed not even he could handle the heroes.
It looked like he was going to have to retreat for now.
But he would be back.
To his knowledge, the Koopa Troop never gave up. Even if they had been losing to Mario for years.
He flew out of the tower on his broomstick.
"We did it!" exclaimed Alena.
It felt great defeating one of the Koopa Troop's strongest minions.
However, they received a message shortly afterwards.
The Beanbean Airport was being attacked by a doomship.
As well as Piranha Plants.
"A hero's work is never done, is it?" asked Alena. They had just saved the oasis too.
"I would imagine we'd be done once we defeated Bowser." answered Peasley.
But he still saw her point.
Well, they couldn't leave the Beans working at the airport to their fate.
It looked like they already had their next destination.
The Oho Jees were sad to say farewell for them.
But who knows? Maybe they would see them again.
And they could rest assured that their oasis was safe.
Meanwhile, Kamek reported to Bowser.
"You couldn't beat them, either? Just how strong are these heroes?" asked Bowser. He was starting to feel a bit worried, to be honest.
He sure hoped that the doomship would be able to handle things.
"I'm sorry, Lord Bowser!" apologized Kamek.
Perhaps if all else failed, Kamek could cast a spell that would make Bowser grow giant.
But then again, Mario had still managed to defeat him even in this transformed state.
If only there wasn't a conveniently located ! Switch.
So maybe he needed to try something a bit more creative.
Perhaps his son would have suggestions?
Kamek has been defeated, but now our heroes need to save the airport!
I think I could use Mom Piranha…but maybe I could use Petey Piranha as well.
He's been in Mario and Luigi games.
See ya!
