Disclaimer: Naruto x Soul Eater - I own nothing
Story Start!
Solitude was a nightmare.
It was a darkness that you could never light on your own, which was why you needed somebody else to be the light for you.
*CLANG*
A sword clashed against the claws of a large inhuman looking creature.
"Hey, get your head in the game Sasuke. Switch places with me." The image of a shirtless young man, 18 years old, called out as his body appeared in the blade of the sword. Blond hair and blue eyes with strange whisker marks on his cheeks. The sword he appeared in was a single edged blade, medium length with no guard and a black handle.
Uzumaki Naruto, the Weapon of Uchiha Sasuke.
Also the Meister.
"Fine." Sasuke stated as his body glowed for a brief second, his human form vanished. His human form was a black haired young man with red eyes, 4 pupils in his eyes, 1 in the middle and 3 stylish pupils surrounding the middle, he was much paler compared to his peach skinned partner.
The sword that he turned into was an exact copy of the sword he had been holding, and the sword he held glowed and transformed into Naruto.
Uchiha Sasuke, the Weapon of Uzumaki Naruto.
Also the Meister.
Naruto grabbed the sword handle with both hands and slashed through wrist of the enemy wielding it's claws at them. He spun around and dodged the incoming limb, before he slashed at the bicep of the odd creature they were fighting. With another spin he slashed right through the creature's chest, cutting through the heart with his final strike. The creature felt to the ground as a soul came out of it's body, a red soul with corruption on it.
A Kishin Egg, a Soul on the Path to becoming a Kishin.
Sasuke took his human form once more.
"Jeez, you've been off your game lately. Well, since I did most of the work for this one, I think I should get to eat it." Naruto complained slightly as he grabbed the soul. "Still, mission complete." Naruto ate the soul. "... Which makes 70 souls for me." Naruto had swallowed the soul in one gulp, while Sasuke glanced up towards the laughing moon in the sky.
Sasuke remained quiet.
-The Next Day-
'He's still being pretty quiet... I wonder if it's some kind of anniversery or something?' Naruto wondered as he walked out of the shower, only a towel around his waist. Sasuke had barely said a word since they reported their mission success. Since they were a Meister/Weapon pair, they lived together. Sasuke made dinner without a word, and just seemed to be strange the entire time.
Meisters and Weapons were expected to live together, so Naruto and Sasuke rented a small house in Death City to live in. It was just easy for them since it was really close to their school, and it was better since Sasuke didn't do well in dorms with other people. They were among the older students, so Sasuke had trouble dealing with others.
Not a problem that he had.
He had known Sasuke since they were 3 years old and met on the side of a road in Japan, and had been best friends ever since. Sasuke was always a super quiet and reserved person, but he wasn't usually this quiet.
"Naruto... do you have anyone you hate?"
"Not really, something up with you... you seem off, this the anniversery of somebody's death or something?" Naruto decided to just come out and ask. There was no harm in asking after all. He could still work with Sasuke if he was like this, but it would make for a very boring time. Naruto stopped in front of the fridge and got the milk out of it.
He was 180cm tall, and he liked to say he only got this tall because he drank plenty of milk.
"You don't even hate the person who branded your stomach?" Sasuke ignored Naruto's question and asked another.
Naruto glanced down at the mark on his stomach.
"Can't say I do, I don't even remember it. Well, whatever is wrong with you, snap out of it. You're already a gloomy bastard, if you get any gloomier you'll become an actual mushroom." Naruto drank all of the milk and tossed the container at the back of Sasuke's head. Sasuke, as much of a funk he was in, still tilted his head so that the milk passed by him.
They were both born Weapons, but they both also had the ability to wield Weapons as well, making them Meisters.
99 Human Souls and a Witch Soul.
Their goals as Meisters were to feed that to their Weapons, and their Goals as Weapons were to help their meisters by eating those souls. Since they were both weapons and meisters, they had to double the amount of souls needed to achieve what they wanted.
"Still, even if you don't know who did it, wouldn't you hate somebody for it... they left a mark on you." Sasuke stated.
Naruto glanced at him.
"I'll kick their ass if I ever meet them, but there isn't a point to obsessing over it. For all I know they might already be dead, not that I really care... I look pretty badass with this tat." Naruto chuckled to himself.
He went into his room.
He came out dressed moments later with a black shirt, an orange short sleeved jacket, and blue jeans with a red spiral button attached to the right pocket of his jeans, with open toed sandles for shoes. He walked right by Sasuke and slapped the back of his head.
"I'm going to the book store, want me to pick up anything for you while I'm there to cheer your gloomy ass up?" Naruto asked with a bored tone.
"... No."
-Later, At the Bookstore-
"Naruto, what a surprise to see you here!"
"Hey Maka, where is Soul?" Naruto asked with a smile when he saw a young girl approach him. She was a small girl, only about 12 years old.
She was an ashen blond with her hair tied into twin tails, and she had green eyes. She was wearing her usual clothes like him, a uniform with the coat of it being on the longer side, and white gloves to go with it. She was on the less developed side for a girl her age, and she was on the average side in height.
Her soul was small, orange like his own soul, and had her pigtails on it.
"He's at home with a stomach bug, we just got out 97th soul... we celebrated, and he got a little sick. I heard that you got your 70th, good for you." Maka Albarn was a girl who... well to put it gently, she didn't have a very high opinion of men. She looked at the book that Naruto was reading, expecting it to be erotica or some kind of dirty magazine. Naruto was 6 years older than her, so she expected him to be like all the other men.
He wasn't.
He was very kind, helped everyone around him, and was just a friendly guy to everyone he could be. She always expected him to show something, but he never did.
"I'm on 70, and Sasuke is on 87 souls. Still, good job on 97, just 2 more and you guys can go after a witch!" Naruto grinned and rubbed the top of Maka's head with a toothy grin. She pushed his hand off of her and backed up a step, but she smiled and bowed politely to him as thanks for his words.
"So what are you reading?" Maka asked him.
He showed her.
"It's a book on gardening, I'm thinking of trying to grow some tomatos. Sasuke has been in a weird mood, so I figure his favorite food will cheer him up... also, gardening in fun. What about you, what brings you here?" Naruto asked her, and she showed a book she had under her arm. He accepted it from her. "... Seems like a fun novel..." Naruto didn't have very much enthusiasm when he said it.
"It's very fun, the previous novel ended on a bad note for the main character. I hope this one lifts things up. Oh... by the way... is it true you were promoted to a 3 Star Meister recently?" Maka asked as she looked at him with eyes alight with admiration. Naruto nodded his head and took out his card from his wallet, proving his status to her.
He got promoted for 4 reasons.
1. He Possessed a Mighty Soul, being as powerful as nearly 100 regular souls.
2. His unique ability to Resonate with anyone, making him a Meister who could use any Weapon, and a Weapon who could be used by any Meister.
3. His ability to fight without the use of a weapon, through the ability to use Soul Menace.
4. His Soul Perception was ranked abnormally high, to the point he could sense negative emotions without even looking at the soul itself.
Sasuke got denied a promotion.
Since Sasuke was a Meister who couldn't use ANY weapon other than Naruto, and he was a Weapon who couldn't Resonate with anyone other than Naruto he was considered an oddity. He just lacked the ability to bond with others. He was an excellent user of Soul Menace, so he could fight without a weapon if he needed to. His soul wasn't a Mighty Soul or even that much more powerful than a usual meister or weapon soul, but he was very skilled with his usage of Soul Menace... and he was very good with Soul Perception.
'Maybe that is why he's bummed out... he's stuck at 2 Star, even though he can fight super well... I would be bummed out too if my partner got promoted and I didn't.' Naruto sucked on his teeth. "... Well... hmmmm." Naruto hummed in thought at that.
Maka smiled.
How did this 18 and 12 year old know each other?
The school they attended didn't separate the students by age, instead it kept them apart by combat type. Those who could fight and those who could not fight were in different classes, and both Naruto and Maka were fighters.
Naruto was a 3 Star Meister/Weapon
Maka was a 1 Star Meister (she could fight on par with a 2 Star Meister)
"Think I'll be promoted soon?" Maka looked down after a moment of thought.
Naruto placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Of course you will be, you're an awesome Meister. Hell, if you ever want some extra training, I would be happy to practice Soul Resonance with you. You're one of the best meisters in class, if you could use Soul Menace, you would BE a Menace." Naruto could see that she started to feel bad.
He couldn't allow that, and he got a smile from her.
"Thanks, but I'm a Scythe Meister, I haven't really trained with other weapon types. Still, I would really appreciate any tips you have on Soul Resonance if you have free time." Maka couldn't accept a ton of help, but she could accept tips.
Naruto nodded.
-Hours Later-
Naruto took his jacket off and tossed it over the bench.
They were at a playground with a basketball court, and a ton of kids were playing ball with each other. It was as good a place as any.
"Well honestly, Soul Resonance isn't super difficult in my opinion. My tip is to match your partners soul the best you can, and link up."
"That is what Soul Resonance is." Maka confirmed she already knew that. "Any tips for making it easier?" Maka asked as she placed the books she bought on the bench, right on top of Naruto's jacket. She was a little surprised when Naruto offered a hand to her.
She stared at it.
He sighed, before grinning.
Maka saw his soul was huge.
His orange soul had flame-like hair and whisker marks on it, and it was almost the same orange as her own soul. There were 9 chains wrapped tightly around his soul, with his soul visibly seeming to try and break free of the chains around it. She took his hand, and she watched as the chains around his soul tightened even more. His soul shrank in size until it perfectly matched the size of her own soul, and when she took his hand he transformed into his weapon form.
They resonated with each other with almost no effort on her part.
His sword form felt practically weightless to her, like it was part of her body and not somebody else in her hand.
Naruto transformed back and they were shaking hands.
"Get it?"
"Not at all." Maka didn't understand the tip at all, and her awkward smile showed she didn't hold any hard feelings for the... lack of real help. She saw Naruto let go of her hand and just scratch his head. "Think you can put it into words?"
Naruto hummed.
"... Eh... Sorry, I'm not the greatest at explaining this stuff. Soul Resonance for me is kind of like when you get chocolate and vanilla swirl ice cream, and you let it melt into a bowl... and then you stir the chocolate and vanilla together." Naruto explained it the best that he could. Maka took him seriously though and thought about it.
She smiled awkwardly again.
"That... still didn't make a lot of sense." Maka politely deadpanned at him.
"Well, I'm not a teacher for a reason it seems. Well, sorry for the waste of time, I'm going to get back home. See you in class. I hope Soul feels better soon." Naruto put his jacket back on and began walking away with his final words said to her.
-Back at the Uzumaki/Uchiha Estate-
"You're late."
"I ran into Maka, sue me... look who is suddenly snippy. I picked up some milk while I was out." Naruto tossed the milk to Sasuke, who was in the kitchen making rice. Sasuke still seemed like he was in a funk, but him being deadpan like that showed that he was working through whatever his problem was on his own. "Tomorrow, I'm going to ask Death to give us a mission with Maka and Soul. Seems like they haven't managed to Resonate with each other successfully. It will be pretty cool if they can use a Witch Hunter, right?" Naruto asked.
Sasuke rolled his eyes.
"Our Soul Resonance is stronger than a mere Witch Hunter."
"Cocky bastard, you know... Sasuke the Copy Weapon isn't a really cool title, when you refuse to watch other weapons fight and actually copy their weapon forms... it would be really nice if we could have a bit more variety... instead the only weapon form you use is MY weapon form." Naruto was a Demon Blade as a weapon, and Sasuke was a Copy Weapon as a weapon. He could replicate any weapon he had seen with his eyes, but he refused to pay attention to other weapons closely enough to actually copy them.
If Sasuke actually bothered to watch others, he could expand the weapons he could transform into, and with Naruto's own ability to resonate with anyone and any weapon, they could use a huge variety of techniques.
At the moment they were limited to their 2 ultimate moves.
Soul Resonance: Sword of Lightning
Soul Resonance: Sword of Storms
Which form their Soul Resonance took depended on which one of them was the Meister, when Sasuke was the Meister they used Sword of Lightning, and Naruto the Sword of Wind when he was Meister.
"Why should I copy an inferior weapon."
"Yeah, Inferior Weapon... says the guy who doesn't actually have a weapon form of his own, and can only turn into other people's weapons... hey... that isn't enough food for both of us." Naruto stated as Sasuke finished dinner.
"Correct."
"Oh... well, I'm off to go get cup ramen, later." Naruto rolled with it. "I'm remember this next time I cook."
"Your cooking sucks anyway."
"Bastard." Naruto deadpanned.
"Idiot."
A normal day.
