The day arrived ten months later. For the U.S. Entrance Exam Hatsuki still struggled with her quirk, but over the last ten months, she had been able to train with her older sister to control it sufficiently for the exam.
Her sister was a third-year student at U.A. She was already on her way to becoming a hero. They had similar quirks, but her older sister had so much control over hers that their parents never worried about her and actually encouraged her to become a hero from the start.
Hatsuki struggled to gain her parents' approval. They were still more concerned with Hatsuki's ability to control her quirk than with anything else. They kept telling her that it wasn't worth it or that she should join another profession that helps people.
Hatsuki didn't have to pursue a career that required her quirk. In a sense, her parents were right. But being a hero had always been her ambition. If she hadn't been saved by a hero when she was a child, her career path might have been different.
It had simply become second nature to her, and nothing else felt as natural. Fortunately for her older sister, her parents caved. Only if her sister supervised her training and kept an eye out for her in the U.S. would she be accepted.
They also made it clear that if they became aware of anything wrong involving her quirk, they would immediately remove her from school. So Hatsuki had to try her hardest not to squander this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
...
She stood in front of the school that she hoped to attend one day. the initial step toward becoming a hero She made her way to the exam orientation room, where she found a good seat as the other students gathered to await the start of everything.
Her mind was racing with potential strategies, but it all depended on what the practical exam would entail.
The lights gradually came on, and the presenter emerged to speak. "For all you examinee listeners tuning in, Welcome to my show today!" he yelled
"Everybody say Hey!" he said, then turned to wait for everyone to respond back to him. but there was only silence.
"What a refined response. Then I'll quickly present to you the rundown on the practical exam."
Hatsuki didn't notice her junior high school classmate, Izuku, sitting next to her. She became aware when he began fanboying for the presenter, Present Mic, who was the Voice Hero.
Not only was Izuku sitting next to her, but so was Katsuki, who was telling Izuku to shut up. Hatsuki then returned her attention to the present mic as he explained the exam rules.
"As it says in the application requirements, you listeners will be conducting ten-minute mock urban battles after this!" Then on the screen, specific letters of battle centers appeared.
Hatsuki looked down at her exam ticket, which had the number 2235 and the location of Battle Center B. She caught a glimpse of Izukus and noticed they would be in the same center.
Present Mic went on to explain that each battle center would have three types of fake villains stationed. They all came from different starting points. The examinees' goal is to earn points by immobilizing the faux villains. It was forbidden to attack another examiner.
Hatsuki's anxiety skyrocketed when she heard that last part. She was nervous because she didn't have complete control over her quirk. She just hoped that it would be stable enough for the exam so she wouldn't accidentally affect the other examinees around her.
One of the students stood up and began complaining about how the exam paper listed four faux villains, but Present Mic had only mentioned three. Then he chastised Izuku for his constant mumbling.
The fourth villain turned out to be worth zero points. and that it was essentially an impediment. definitely one to avoid at all costs.
"That's all from me! Finally, I'll give you listeners a presentation of our school motto!" The present Mic said:
"The Hero Napoleon Bonaparte once said: "A true hero is someone who overcomes life's misfortunes."
"Go beyond Plus Ultra!" he said as the words spread across the screen behind him. Everyone stood up and prepared for the simulated battle. making their way to their assigned battlegrounds
Hatsuki made her way to the entrance to Battle Center B, where she stood in awe. Fear was trying to creep inside her.
"Please quirk work with me for now and just focus on the task at hand," she said to herself, holding her hand to her heart.
She then sighed and shook her head. Her nerves were shaken as well. There is no need to be concerned; simply do your best. She turned to face the gate.
It's finally my chance to become the hero I always dreamed of being, she confided, holding her fist with pure determination on her face.
