Chapter 2
Lucas found himself trapped in a seemingly endless nightmare, with no apparent way out. His torment was pleasantly interrupted by a soothing humming sound. The peaceful melody provided him solace, gently guiding him back to the realm of consciousness.
He blinked open his eyes, his gaze fixed on the white ceiling above. It took a beat for him to orient himself, but memories came trickling back. How did he survive the encounter with Arbok? He couldn't help but feel a sense of relief, as he was fully convinced that death was just moments away.
The trauma he endured would not easily fade from memory. This harrowing ordeal undoubtedly cast a shadow over the promising beginning of his journey in the Pokemon World. Wasn't that a strange thought to have upon waking up?
His left leg felt numb as if it were still asleep. Lucas felt a wave of panic rush through him when his first thought was that his leg might be gone. Desperately, he attempted to move it and let out a sob of relief when he felt it shift slightly beneath the bed sheets.
"You're awake!"
Lucas glanced to his right and noticed a woman seated in a chair, her features partially hidden by the sunlight streaming through the window. From her appearance, she seemed to be in her late twenties or early thirties. Her hair was loosely tied in a ponytail, suggesting she was not too concerned about her appearance. She was definitely not afraid of wearing vibrant colours. She wore a pink jacket with short sleeves, a yellow undershirt, and a voluminous purple skirt.
"You had me so worried," she exclaimed, getting to her feet and rushing towards his bedside.
"Who are you?" Lucas inquired.
Close-up, he noticed the warmth in her eyes. They were a lighter shade of brown than his own, resembling the colour of toffee. "I happened to be the one who found you when you were under attack. How lucky that I was nearby!"
"Thank you for rescuing me," Lucas said with a sincere smile. "Would you mind sharing the name of my lifesaver?"
"It's Delia Ketchum."
Lucas was taken aback when he heard the last name. Despite not being familiar with the anime, Ash Ketchum was an iconic character. Could she be related to him? It was unfortunate that he hadn't watched the series; otherwise, he might have recognised her.
"Well, my name is Lucas—"
"...Walker," Delia finished as she glanced at his knapsack resting on the bedside table. "I searched through your belongings to determine your identity and came across your adventurer's guild card in your wallet."
"Well, now that you've rescued me, feel free to call me Lucas."
"Call me Delia."
"Is Icarus okay?"
"Icarus?"
"My Pidgey."
"Oh, absolutely," Delia answered. "I made sure to put him back in your Pokeball. It's safely stored in your bag."
Lucas grew weary of resting on his back and made an effort to sit up. This proved to be a challenging task as his leg was tightly wrapped in bandages, making it feel incredibly heavy. Delia kindly lent a hand, assisting him by adjusting the bed to provide support for his back.
"Thanks," Lucas said. "Do you have any idea what the prognosis is for my leg?"
"I'm sure that you'll keep it," Delia reassured him. "I'll go and tell the doctor that you are awake."
Delia left the room, giving Lucas an opportunity to inspect his surroundings. He noticed the complete lack of medical equipment. He expected there to be at least some devices for monitoring his vital signs. Other than that, the room appeared to be ordinary, except for a faint scent of medicine lingering in the air.
His attention was caught by the map hanging on the wall opposite him. The word "Kanto" was prominently displayed at the top. Lucas found himself perplexed by the region's vastness, as it seemed considerably larger than he had remembered from the game. He was able to locate the peninsula where Pallet Town was situated.
He realised that there was an issue. The peninsula wasn't located on the left-hand side but towards the centre. It suddenly dawned on him. The map featured the Johto region with no visible border separating it from Kanto. Just as he was about to ponder further, the door swung open. Delia stepped inside, accompanied by a middle-aged man wearing a white coat.
"Good day, Mr. Walker. It is good to see you awake," the doctor cordially addressed him. "My name is Doctor Potts. You are fortunate to be alive, young man."
"How long have I been here?" Lucas asked as the Doctor checked his vitals.
"A week," Doctor Potts responded. "You were just moments away from death when Mrs Ketchum brought you here."
"Will my leg be okay?"
"It will require several weeks for it to heal, but you should regain full use of your leg. I will provide you with a prescription for pain medication."
"Great," Lucas breathed a sigh of relief. "Does that mean I can go?"
"You can, but I have to deliver some unfortunate news," Doctor Potts said. "I reached out to the orphanage about your situation. Given your prolonged absence, they presumed the worst. Your room has already been emptied and your belongings discarded."
"I just turned eighteen," Lucas shrugged. "They were itching to show me the door anyhow."
"That's so unkind," Delia said. "Do you have another place to stay?"
"I'll find something," Lucas reassured her. "You don't have to worry about me."
"Young man, your leg is still recovering. You need a place—"
"He can stay with Ash and me," Delia interrupted.
She raised her hand to halt any potential protests from the two of them. "It's only for a few weeks, and I have enough space for it."
Lucas was about to respond when the doctor seized her arm, guiding her to a secluded corner of the room. In hushed tones, he began to converse, but he failed to keep his voice down. Perhaps he was indifferent to being overheard. Regardless, after hearing his words, Lucas' feelings for the doctor took a sharp downturn.
"Mrs Ketchum, you should reconsider inviting individuals of questionable character into your residence," Doctor Potts remarked in a condescending manner. "Remember, you have a young child to consider."
"Dr Potts, I appreciate your concern, but Lucas is a nice boy. You have nothing to worry about."
"How will he repay you for the Pokedollars that were used for his medical expenses?"
"Let me worry about that."
Dr Potts leaned in closer to her. "I am sure we can come to some kind of arrange—"
"Goodbye Dr. Potts," Delia stated firmly as she returned to Lucas' side. "Let's get you out of here."
Lucas noticed that Dr Potts gave him an angry look as he exited the room. What an asshole. He looked at Delia curiously as she pulled back the bedsheets. Why would she go out of the way to help him?
"How much does it cost?"
"What are you talking about?"
"How much does the medical fee cost?" Lucas persistently inquired.
Delia released a sigh. "It's five thousand and two hundred Pokedollars. But that is nothing to me, really. So you don't have to concern yourself about paying me back."
Lucas winced as he considered the situation. Although he wasn't sure about the exact value of the Pokedollar, if it equated to the same amount in dollars, it was not a small amount. Apparently, medical expenses in this world were also not cheap.
"I will repay you. I appreciate your kindness, but I prefer not owing anything to anyone," Lucas said.
"You are in no position to pay me back," Delia stated firmly. "I have seen the contents of your wallet and you only have sixty Pokedollars to your name. Prioritize your healing before concerning yourself with anything else."
"I can start earning some Pokedollars," Lucas argued. "I—"
"You should already be aware of this, but this world isn't kind," Delia said, her serious tone capturing his attention. "So let me give you some advice. Genuine acts of kindness from others can be hard to come by, so cherish them when they do happen. Did you hear what Dr Potts said?"
Lucas winced and gave a brief nod.
"He was shamelessly demanding sexual favours as payment to waive your medical fees, despite having a beautiful wife at home. It's truly disheartening how some people are so self-centred and never seem satisfied with what they already have."
Lucas remained silent.
Delia was just about to assist him when she noticed that he was only dressed in pyjamas. "How silly of me! I completely forgot about getting some clothes for you."
"Are my old clothes still in good condition?" Lucas asked.
"Your shirt is fine, but your jeans had to be cut open to get to your leg. I will return shortly with some clothing."
"Take the Pokedollars in my wallet."
Delia waved her arm and said, "Oh, don't worry about it! I still have my late husband's clothes at home, and I think they should fit you perfectly."
She exited the room. Lucas, feeling the urge to use the bathroom, reached for the crutches resting beside his bed and carefully rose to his feet. He relied on them for support because he couldn't put any weight on his leg. Assuming that the only other door in the room led to the bathroom, Lucas made his way towards it. He entered the bathroom and emptied his bladder.
Lucas shuffled over to the map, unable to contain his curiosity. At the bottom, there was some small writing that cleared up his confusion.
A map of the Unified Regions of Kanto.
Was Johto no longer around? Although it retained the same town and city names, both regions were now categorised as Kanto. He already noticed some deviations from the original game, but given that this was a living, dynamic world, it was not unexpected. However, the magnitude of these changes caught him off guard.
Delia came back and assisted him in changing his clothes. If she hadn't been so nonchalant about it, he would have felt more embarrassed. After all, Delia was a beautiful woman.
She had chosen a simple T-shirt and shorts. The latter fitted easily over his bandaged leg. Finally, he put on a pair of well-worn black sneakers that were slightly loose, yet still comfortable.
Once Delia was ready, she grabbed his bag and gently slid his arm over her shoulders. Together they made their way outside the building, where the sweet scent of honeysuckle enveloped his senses as he inhaled her perfume.
Outside, Lucas paused and glanced back at the building. Why were they built next to each other? The medical centre was affixed to the Pokemon Center, an arrangement that struck him as peculiar. Given the fundamental differences between human and Pokemon physiologies, he didn't think their treatments would be remotely the same. But he quickly figured it out. Trainers likely sustained injuries alongside their Pokemon, making the proximity of the two medical centres a logical choice.
"What's wrong?" Delia asked.
"Nothing," Lucas replied. They stepped onto the sidewalk and made their way slowly down the street.
Lucas was determined to hide his lack of knowledge about the world. Since he didn't have access to the previous host's memories, he would have to play it by ear for now. He needed to research this world as soon as possible to avoid any mistakes that may expose him.
Delia guided him through several streets until they arrived at her neighbourhood. His leg was throbbing with pain and he was perspiring heavily, so he felt thankful that the distance was not lengthy. The effects of the pain medication that he had received were already diminishing.
As they walked along a row of single-family detached houses, Lucas couldn't shake the nagging feeling that he had overlooked something obvious. After thinking back on the sights they had passed on their way, he finally pinpointed the source of his uncertainty.
There were no vehicles on the roads. Instead, carriages were pulled by large quadruped Pokemon, and there were a lot of people riding on bicycles. Was Pallet Town a car-free zone? Additionally, the houses and streets he passed had a quaintness about them, evoking a sense of an earlier time period. The only place that seemed remotely modern was the Pokemon Centre.
Delia stopped in front of a charming home, its yard adorned with an array of vibrant flower beds and enclosed by a white picket fence. The house itself was painted in a gentle shade of yellow, with a roof clad in slate-blue shingles. While not overly spacious, it exuded a welcoming and cosy atmosphere.
A Pokemon was sweeping the front porch with a broom when it noticed their presence and greeted them with a raised hand. "Mime."
There was something familiar about the Pokemon. "Have I met Mr Mime before?"
"Mimey was the one who saved you from the Arbok," Delia said, as she opened the gate and guided him to the front porch.
"Hello, Mimey. I really appreciate you coming to my rescue," Lucas expressed sincerely.
"Mime," the Pokemon waved a hand, dismissing the matter.
"Come on, let's get you inside," Delia said with genuine concern, carefully studying his pinched expression
They walked into the house, and Delia guided him to the living room where she helped him settle on the couch. She grabbed a stool to elevate his leg for comfort. In front of him sat a television, sparking curiosity about what it could tell him about the world. Catching on to his interest, Delia passed him the remote control.
"Hey, I'm going to get this prescription filled," Delia said, waving the piece of paper. "Do you need anything while I'm out?"
"I'm fine," Lucas replied.
"Well, Mimey will be here to assist you with anything you may need."
Lucas turned on the television after Delia left and started flipping through the channels. Unfortunately, he couldn't find anything informative—it was mostly Pokemon channels. While his desire to learn more about Pokemon was strong, he needed a better understanding of the world first. On top of that, daytime soaps were also airing. It seems like he couldn't get away from them in this world either. Disappointed, he switched off the TV.
Grabbing his bag, he reached inside and pulled out his Pokeball. He released Icarus, and the Pokemon launched himself at Lucas, who easily caught him in his arms.
"Pidgey."
It was comforting to see that Icarus remained pleased despite their recently formed relationship. Lucas decided to check Icarus' status and was pleasantly surprised to see he gained another hundred points in favorability. Was this due to genuine concern or simply amusement at the sight of his trainer getting injured? It was best not to dwell on such uncertainties.
Icarus took flight from Lucas' chest and began exploring his surroundings. He hoped that Delia wouldn't mind him letting the Pokemon out inside her home, but he didn't want to keep him confined in his Pokeball for too long. Since he was unfamiliar with how things worked in this world, it paid to be cautious.
Lucas unzipped his bag and retrieved the notebook that contained the thoughts of the previous host. In order to convincingly assume the role of this individual, he needed to delve into the psyche of his former host. Lucas turned to the first entry and started reading.
Lucas woke up a few hours later after a light nap. Delia had prepared lunch for him, and he had gotten tired and dozed off. The feeling of being unproductive annoyed him because it wasn't in his nature. Despite what his relatives might think, he was an overachiever. Although his hard work hadn't resulted in tangible success yet, it wasn't due to a lack of effort on his part.
According to the notebook, he had a difficult time at the orphanage, which was poorly managed and appeared to function as a recruitment ground for a local gang. Despite being approached multiple times, Lucas steadfastly declined their offers to join. Unfortunately, this resulted in harassment from the teens who had already become members.
It was surprising to him that a gang could operate in Pallet Town, but the reason was revealed in the notebook. With a population of nearly fifty thousand, Pallet Town was a large town. However, it was unfortunate that there existed a caste system which created a divide between the privileged and the less privileged.
Pallet Town was located upon a sprawling hill, with the more affluent residents residing at the pinnacle while the less fortunate dwelled nearer to the base. While not exactly a slum, the living conditions in this area were notably poorer and crime ran rampant. Law enforcement showed little interest in maintaining a strong presence unless the criminal activities affected the more affluent residents of the town. Delia had warned that this world was far from kind, and her words held undeniable truth.
Delia resided in a middle-class neighbourhood, giving her a better living situation than most. He needed to quickly gather a lot of Pokedollars so he didn't return to the less affluent part of town. Not only did he need to pay Delia back, but he also needed Pokedollars to secure his own place to live. He had no intention of depending on her generosity forever, but he was grateful that she was helping him.
His initial plan was to determine if he could support himself financially through his artwork. Considering the widespread popularity of Pokemon in this world, there appeared to be a significant market for items such as portraits. He didn't want to rely on it solely because he didn't get another chance at life just to live as a struggling artist again.
"I'm home!" a voice shouted, accompanied by a loud slam. The sound of running footsteps met his ears as he caught a glimpse of a young boy darting past the doorway. The boy must have spotted him, for he poked his head into the living room.
"Hi," the boy said.
"Hey there," Lucas said with a smile. "You must be Ash."
Ash nodded and rushed into the room and took a seat on the couch next to Lucas. He appeared to be filled with boundless energy. With his short stature, spiky black hair, and black eyes, he bore a striking resemblance to his anime counterpart. Lucas noticed some similarities to his mother, but it looked like he got most of his features from his father.
"You're the guy who almost got eaten by an Arbok," Ash grinned. "What did it feel like?"
"Would you like me to demonstrate for you?" Lucas quipped. "I guarantee you will cry."
"Whatever," Ash shrugged. "So, how long are you staying here?"
"Only until I get back on my feet," Lucas said. "Your mother is a kind woman."
"I suppose," Ash looked away.
"You think there is another reason?"
Ash stood up from the couch and took a photo from the mantlepiece. Bringing it over to Lucas, he showed him the picture. In the photo, there was a younger version of Delia standing beside a young man. At first glance, he bore a resemblance to Lucas.
"This was my uncle," Ash said. "He passed away when I was a baby. My mother doesn't talk about him much because it makes her sad."
"You think this is the reason she invited me to stay?" Lucas asked. "Well, whatever the reason, I am still grateful."
Ash put the photo back and returned to the couch. The drawing resting on the table caught his eye. Lucas had placed it there while unpacking his rucksack.
"Wow, cool!" Ash exclaimed, picking the drawing up and examining it. "How did you make Palkia look so real? I've never seen a better picture of it!"
"Palkia?"
"You don't know?" Ash gave him this look like he was clueless. "It's one of the most badass Legendary Pokemon ever! It can go anywhere it wants since it controls space. Plus, it chills in some other dimension and hardly ever shows up here. Besides Arceus, it's, like, the trickiest Legendary to catch a glimpse of."
Interesting. It explained how Palkia came to be on Earth. But it kind of worried him that such a powerful Pokemon was such a dickhead. Who saunters into other worlds only to kill the unsuspecting residents? That sparked another thought. He wasn't the only one killed by Palkia on Earth. Did they receive the same offer as him?
"Do you think it's worth anything?" Lucas inquired. Had he stumbled upon the solution to his lack of funds so easily?
Ash paused, taking a moment to consider it. "I reckon Professor Oak would shell out a good amount of Pokedollars for this."
"How much?"
"Dunno, want me to give him a call?" Ash passed the drawing to him and rushed out of the room. Moments later, Lucas heard a surprised gasp, followed by Delia's voice.
"Ash, stop running in the house," Delia scolded him. "Do you seriously want to injure me?"
"Sorry, Mom. I've got some important stuff to handle."
"What stuff?"
"Lucas and I have discovered a method by which he can earn some Pokedollars. So, he doesn't have to sponge off you anymore."
Why you little shit! Where did that idea come from? Looks like the kid wasn't as generous as his mother. Delia entered the room a minute after the voices had fallen silent.
"Sorry, if Ash bothered you," Delia said with an awkward smile.
"He wasn't a bother," Lucas reassured her.
Best not to bring up the fact that he was itching to give that little troublemaker a well-deserved thrashing.
"Ash mentioned that you were considering selling your drawing," Delia remarked. "When I first saw it, I didn't pay much attention to it. However, it's truly remarkable that you have a drawing of Palkia. How did you come up with it? Did you replicate the image from somewhere?"
"Would you believe me if I said that I encountered Palkia?" It was the truth, but not in this particular world.
Delia appeared deeply troubled. "Is that how you wound up in the gorge?"
"Yes," Lucas nodded. He needed to spin a believable tale that wouldn't be looked at too closely. "It wasn't the friendliest Pokemon. I climbed down into the gorge to escape from it, although I think it lost interest in me. The location where I found myself had difficult terrain, which took me several days to escape from. I had only managed to find a way out when I encountered Arbok."
"You absolutely have to inform Professor Oak," Delia insisted. "There's a possibility that Palkia is still in the area. I don't think we should be overly concerned since some time has passed, but it's always better to err on the side of caution."
Ash ran back into the living room."Professor Oak is coming for dinner, Mum."
"Okay, dear. Make sure to shower and wear a fresh pair of underwear."
"Mum!"
Later that evening, Delia led an elderly man into the living room. Professor Oak, a compact man with messy grey hair and thick eyebrows, was dressed in a lab coat. The choice of attire for dinner struck Lucas as rather peculiar.
"Where is the drawing?" Professor Oak demanded, not bothering to introduce himself.
Delia showed an annoyed expression in response to his rude behaviour.
"Nice to meet you too," Lucas muttered, handing the drawing to the professor.
Professor Oak reached into his pocket and retrieved a pair of glasses, slipping them onto his face. He made some noises of approval as he carefully examined the drawing. Lucas held his breath, hoping that the man would find enough interest to be willing to pay a decent sum of Pokedollars for it.
"Tell me about your encounter with Palkia," Professor Oak said a minute later, his voice filled with excitement.
As Lucas recounted the experience, Professor Oak asked him several questions, aiming to gather as much information as possible. Throughout their conversation, the man's increasing excitement suggested that he believed Lucas.
"I need to send a team to investigate the area. Where did you encounter Palkia?"
"On the cliffside overlooking the gorge where I encountered the Arbok," Lucas replied.
"It's the gorge where I go to harvest the berry trees," Delia added.
"Understood," Professor Oak acknowledged with a nod. "I will arrange an investigation. And young man, I am prepared to offer you fifteen thousand Pokedollars for the drawing."
"Sold," Lucas replied without hesitation. He knew he had no leverage to ask for a better deal. The drawing, essentially a sketch, was not particularly impressive.
The professor retrieved his chequebook and wrote a cheque for Lucas. He appeared quite nonchalant as though the Pokedollars held little significance to him.
"Delia, what is that heavenly smell emanating from the kitchen?"
"It's pot roast, professor," Delia said. "It's almost ready."
Professor Oak followed Delia out of the living room. Lucas gazed down at the check, a contented smile on his face. With this amount, he could settle his debt with Delia, and contribute towards the rent. The remaining funds would be allocated towards purchasing new clothes and art supplies. He hoped to earn even more Pokedollars with the latter.
If his initial plan didn't pan out, he always had the option of completing missions for the Adventurers Guild. However, he knew that in order to explore the wilderness successfully, he needed more powerful Pokemon at his disposal.
The following day, Delia arranged for a carriage to take them into town. As they travelled, he engaged in conversation with Delia in order to learn more about her. He discovered that she had inherited a substantial amount of Pokedollars from her parents. Additionally, she received an insurance payout following the tragic passing of her husband, who served as a soldier in the Kanto Army and lost his life during a mission. She was financially secure but worked part-time at Professor Oak's laboratory, where she helped care for the Pokemon.
When they reached the main shopping area, they stepped off the carriage. Lucas had to deposit his cheque, but it turned out he didn't have an account with the bank, so he had to open one. His Adventurer's Guild card served as sufficient identification for opening an account.
Lucas deposited two thousand Pokedollars into his account and cashed out the rest. He repaid Delia, which left him with seven thousand and eight hundred on hand. He was right in saying that the monetary value of Pokedollars was similar to that of dollars.
Delia accompanied him on a shopping trip to purchase new clothes, shoes, and personal care items. It was a pleasure for him to wear his own clothes again, even though he was grateful to Delia for lending him her husband's clothes.
Lucas asked Delia if there was a library nearby. She led him to a quaint brick building situated on the outskirts of the shopping area. Excited about doing some research, Lucas told Delia that he could find his own way home since he was going to be in the library for a while.
Lucas explored the library in search of general knowledge and the world's history. Fortunately, he stumbled upon a book that appeared to have the answers he sought. It seemed tailored to individuals like him, who were clueless about the world. He settled into a plush chair, readying himself for an extended reading session.
The information proved enlightening, providing answers to the many questions he had about the world. It revealed a level of complexity and uniqueness that surpassed his wildest imagination. Of particular note was an entry that highlighted the discrepancies he had observed with the technology in this world.
Legendary Pokémon: The Cruel Oppressors or Our Salvation?
The Great War
Sixty years ago, the world as we once knew it underwent an irreversible transformation. The regions of Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, and Hoenn were gripped by a calamitous war. While there may be differing opinions on certain aspects, it is widely accepted that Johto bears the primary responsibility for instigating this conflict.
In an effort to sustain their ever-growing population, Johto made incursions into the Kanto territory, hoping to claim some of its fertile lands. However, Kanto responded with aggression and successfully drove out the invaders. As conflicts continued to escalate over the following months, tensions reached a boiling point, ultimately leading to the inevitable outbreak of war.
There were two other regions that became involved in the conflict. The Sinnoh region, which is located north of Johto, had concerns about potential aggression from Johto. To address this, it decided to establish an alliance with the Kanto region. With this alliance, it looked like the war might be resolved before it even started. Hoenn, however, joined forces with Johto because of their numerous trade agreements. This led to both sides being relatively equal in strength.
The darkest era known to humankind ensued, claiming the lives of both humans and Pokémon indiscriminately. The advent of awe-inspiring weapons of mass destruction greatly exacerbated the conflict. The land located between the Kanto and Johto region was left irrevocably scarred by the rampant devastation. Matters escalated to such an extent that even the typically neutral Legendary Pokémon felt compelled to take action, forever altering the course of history.
The Decree
The Legendary Pokemon, the most powerful and mysterious entity in our world, started to systematically demolish our infrastructure. Initially, their primary targets were the weapon manufacturers responsible for creating any type of weapons used in war. Humans were unable to resist their overpowering strength. Even the other regions of the world were not exempt from their destruction.
It was at that moment that Arceus appeared, descending upon our world to express its dissatisfaction with our actions. It made it clear that should we persist in producing the technologies they deemed problematic, we would be met with even more severe consequences. Its message, while heavy-handed, undoubtedly got the point across.
A few individuals tried to resist by aiming their weapons at the Legendary Pokemon. However, Arceus had the power to destroy them on its own. This served as a demonstration of the Pokemon's power, leaving us with a fear that persists to this day.
Over the course of the next ten years, a range of other technologies were abolished, including the automobile and aviation industry. It appeared that the Legendary Pokemon were dissatisfied with the impact of fossil fuels on the environment. Additionally, any items that underwent extensive manufacturing processes were also deemed unacceptable.
It has brought about a world where technology is skewed towards certain industries. While we have made advancements in fields like Pokemon-related technology, other areas seem to lag behind, resembling the way we lived a century ago. Nonetheless, this technological shift has also sparked new innovations and revived traditional craftsman trades.
It is undeniable that the appearance of the Legendary Pokemon has had a positive impact on our lives. Since the arrival of Arceus, there have been no major conflicts. Therefore, is it truly unfavourable to live under the perceived dominion of these Legendary Pokemon? Given that there is a flourishing religion that reveres them as deities, many individuals do not seem to think so...
Lucas put the book down, letting the information sink in. Legendary Pokemon seemed to possess a level of power that surpassed even that of weapons of mass destruction, by several magnitudes. He never stood a chance of escaping Palkia.
Could the Great War have been the cause of Johto's assimilation into the Kanto region? And how did this impact the Pokemon? Did they remain within their own territories or did they intermingle with one another?
Lucas kept flipping through the book until he stumbled upon a section dedicated to professions. It was no surprise to find a variety of crafting and trade professions listed. Without the ability to mass-produce, the population had to rely on skilled workers who could produce handcrafted goods.
His focus shifted towards an intriguing field known as Alchemy. This profession proved highly lucrative due to the increased demand for herbal pills and potions over traditional medicines. Surprisingly, the plants in this realm possessed remarkable potency and a multitude of beneficial properties.
He was intrigued by the Pokemon Breeder profession, which involved creating powerful Pokemon Eggs that inherited their parents' abilities. They have the potential to be sold for tens or even hundreds of thousands of Pokedollars, depending on their rarity and potential.
Considering his ability, the profession seemed ideal for him. A traditional Pokemon journey didn't pique his interest. On the other hand, breeding Pokemon appeared much safer and more financially rewarding.
Should he go for it?
So, what do you think? I am aware that Mimey is Ash's Pokemon originally in the anime, but I changed it so that it belongs to Delia in my story.
Thanks for reading.
