Chapter 4: HERO vs HERO
"DUEL!"
YUKITO LP: 4000
Jaden LP: 4000
{Ray's P.O.V.}
Yuki and the young man drew their opening hands, staring at each other with unreadable expressions. As the tense silence continues, my gaze turns to the young man with brown and orange hair. While I wasn't the best professional duelist back home, I was still one of the best, and when you reach higher levels, you begin to notice a duelist's aura. The stronger the aura, the stronger the duelist is.
Yukito's aura is quite strong, especially for someone his age. Zarc's was monstrous. But this guy's aura is something else. If Zarc's duelist aura is like an inferno, then this guy's aura makes Zarc's look more like a candle flame.
"Yukito. Who is he?" I ask. I summon my duel disk to see that the young man's name is Jaden. Jaden looks to be the same age as me, maybe slightly younger, so how can he gain such a powerful aura? Was his presence what caused the once-blank void to become a vertex of colors?
"His name is Jaden Yuki, and he is the original Supreme King," Yukito said, his eyes never leaving his hand.
The original Supreme King. The title Zarc referred to himself as when he became a monster. Jaden was also the Supreme King.
"I haven't called that in ages." Jaden chuckles. However, his laughter soon dies as Jaden regains his stoic expression. "Though I can't say I approve of the actions of the second king. All he wants is mindless destruction."
Jaden's expression quickly brightens up. "But enough about that, let's duel!"
"I agree. I hope you have no problem with me taking the first turn." Yukito said. Strange, usually Yukito would pick going second most of the time.
"Sure. You can have the first move." Jaden answers, causing Yukito to give an excited smile, looking more like his age.
"Then I'll start by playing A Hero Lives!" Yukito slams the card into the duel disk's spell/trap card slot, causing an enlarged hologram version of said card to appear on the field.
"OH! Are you playing HEROs, too?!" Jaden asks, his tone colored with excitement.
Yukito smirks back at his opponent. "What better deck to face you with, Jaden, than a HERO deck of my own? The effect of A Hero Lives resolve! Since I control no monsters, I can special summon a level four or lower Elemental HERO monster from my deck by paying half my life points."
Yukito LP: 2000
As Yukito finishes explaining his card's effect, his duel disk sends out a massive shock, but he doesn't react. "I choose Elemental HERO Shadow Mist!"
A black armored woman appears on Yukito's field.
Elemental HERO Shadow Mist: DARK/ Level 4/ Warrior/ Effect - 1000/1500
I want to ask Yukito why he paid half his life points for a monster with a thousand attack points, but I know I will get my answer soon enough.
"When Elemental HERO Shadow Mist is special summoned, I can add a 'Change' quick-play spell card from my deck to hand," Yukito reveals the spell card before shuffling his hand. "I play the spell E - Emergency Call to add an Elemental HERO from my deck to hand. I pick Elemental HERO Stratos and immediately summon him." Another superhero appears on Yukito's field, a man wearing blue armor with massive turbine wings on his back, causing the monster to fly.
Elemental HERO Stratos: WIND/ Level 4/ Warrior/ Effect - 1800/300
"Stratos's effect activates! When I summon Stratos, I can pick one of his two effects. I choose the second, adding another 'HERO' monster from my deck to hand!" Yukito shuffles his hand once again. Amazing. He played so many cards, but his hand still had five cards. "I play Polymerization to fuse the Stratos on my field with the Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier in my hand!"
Another hero with light blue armor over a black jumpsuit stands beside Stratos before jumping into a vertex.
"Fusion Summon! Elemental HERO Sunrise!" Yukito slaps the extra deck card onto his duel blade, summoning another hero in red armor with a flowing blue cape.
Elemental HERO Sunrise: LIGHT/ Level 7/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 2500/1200
"Elemental HERO Sunrise's effect activates, and I chain it with the effect of Liquid Soldier in my grave. Because Liquid Soldier went to the grave as fusion material for a 'HERO' fusion monster, I can draw two cards and discard one." Yukito draws two and discards another copy of E-Emergency Call. "Now Sunrise's effect activates, when this card is special summoned, I can add Miracle Fusion from my deck to hand. Sunrise's other effect activates. My monsters gain two hundred attack points for each different attribute I control. Since I control two different attributes, my monsters gain four hundred attack points." A black-and-white aura covers Yukito's monsters as they scream from the power boost.
Elemental HERO Shadow Mist: DARK/ Level 4/ Warrior/ Effect - 1400/1500
Elemental HERO Sunrise: LIGHT / Level 7/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 2900/1200
"I play Miracle Fusion to fusion summon by banishing Stratos and Liquid Soldier in my grave. Fusion summon! Elemental HERO Absolute Zero!" Yukito's second fusion monster, a superhero in white armor with a white cape, appears on the field.
Elemental HERO Absolute Zero: WATER/ Level 8/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 2500/2000
"Absolute Zero's attack will go up thanks to Sunrise's effect, and because Absolute Zero is a WATER monster, meaning I now control three attributes, making my monsters gain a total of six hundred attack points," Yukito explains. The aura coating his monsters gains a light blue color along with the black and white colors from earlier.
Elemental HERO Shadow Mist: DARK/ Level 4/ Warrior/ Effect - 1600/1500
Elemental HERO Sunrise: LIGHT/ Level 7/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 3100/1200
Elemental HERO Absolute Zero: WATER/ Level 8/ Fusion/ Effect - 3100/2000
"I set two cards and end my turn." Yukito's field shows two enlarged face-down cards before fading away, ending his turn with three monsters, two of them being fusion monsters, two set cards, and three cards in hand. "Sorry that my turn took so long."
"It's okay. I got to see some cool heroes!" Jaden grins. "It's my turn! Draw!"
"During your Draw Phase, I activate one of my set cards! Mask Change!" Yukito yells, revealing the quick-play spell card he got from Shadow Mist's effect. "Thanks to Mask Change, I can target one 'HERO' monster I control, send it to the grave, and special summon a 'Masked HERO' monster from my extra deck with the same attribute as the chosen monster!"
"WHAT?!" I scream. Summoning an extra deck monster during the opponent's turn?!
"I choose Shadow Mist to summon a DARK 'Masked HERO' from my extra deck!" Shadow Mist's mask begins to form creaks. The female leaps into the air, her body covered in a blinding light. "HENSHIN! Fusion Summon! Masked HERO Dark Law!"
A new black-armored hero takes Shadow Mist's place.
Masked HERO Dark Law: DARK/ Level 6/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 2400/1800
Yukito summoned a fusion monster with only one monster. I had never seen that happen before, even in the original dimension. What kind of duelist is Yukito?
"OH~! Awesome! They're called Masked HEROs? And you only need a single monster to summon them? That's sick!" Jaden screams in excitement. Yukito said he was the original Supreme King, so why is he so different from Zarc? "Where did you learn such a summon?" Jaden asks, and to be honest, I want to know that, too.
"Funny that you ask that. I learned it from you. Though it was a different version of you." Yukito answers. "Dark Law gains six hundred attack points thanks to Sunrise's effect."
Masked HERO Dark Law: DARK/ Level 6/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 3000/1800
"The second effect of Shadow Mist activates. When this card goes to the grave, I add one 'HERO' monster, except another copy of Shadow Mist, to my hand." Yukito said, adding another card to bring his hand size to four.
Three fusion monsters. All with at least three thousand attack points. Typically, this would be enough for most opponents to call it quits. But something tells me Jaden isn't the type to give up.
{Yukito's P.O.V.}
I breathe to calm my pounding heart, gazing at my endboard. I can't think of a better endboard than the one I have right now.
Yes, I paid a lot of life points for it, and I'm a tad worried, as Jaden can summon monsters with massive attack point values, but I don't regret my decision.
Sunrise will let me pop a card if Jaden decides to attack one of my HEROs that isn't Sunrise itself. Dark Law is Macro Cosmos on legs that can, once per turn, banish a card from Jaden's hand if he adds any cards outside his draw phase and damage step. Absolute Zero becomes a raigeki when it leaves the field. My set card is another Mask Change, so if Jaden plays any continuous spells or traps, I can change Absolute Zero for Masked HERO Acid to act as pseudo-Harpie's Feather Duster while still triggering Zero's monster wiping effect.
Thank god Dark Law's boss monster skill allows me to start with either Mask Change or a DARK Hero monster. Otherwise, I wasn't sure I would have been able to combo as well as I did.
A part of me wants to believe that even someone like Jaden would have trouble breaking this board, but I also know that would be wishful thinking.
My duel with the Meikyu Brothers showed me that Legacy Characters can have support for their archetype, and HEROs have a lot of support.
But I know that this Jaden is his anime version, as he didn't know about the existence of the Masked HERO archetype. Jaden's deck must be a mixture of Elemental HEROs, Neo cards, and Neo-Spacian. It brings me a small comfort knowing Jaden is running those cards.
Half of the Neo-Spacians are complete trash. Flare Scarab becomes a big beater if your opponent has a ton of backrow. Air Hummingbird regains you more life points the more cards in your opponent's hand. And the less I have to say about Glow Moss's shitty effect, the better. Dark Panther is meh. The only good Neo-Spacians are Grand Mole and Aqua Dolphin. Even then, it took a decade and the popularization of hand traps for Aqua Dolphin to be good.
But Jaden made them work during his journey, and Neo-Spacians received some busted support because they were that bad. So, expecting those cards to hurt Jaden more than help is naive.
Now, what is Jaden's first move?
"I discard a card to play Super Polymerization." Jaden casually says as he pockets his discarded card because it was banished due to Dark Law's effect, though my duel disk tells me it was Generation Next.
"Oh, come on!" I yell in frustration. The field darkens as a powerful storm begins to brew.
"I will fuse your Sunrise and Dark Law to fusion summon Elemental HERO Sunrise." My two monsters were pulled by the strong wind, fusing to form another Sunrise, but this one stood on Jaden's side of the field.
Elemental HERO Sunrise: LIGHT/ Level 7/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 2500/1200
"Because I summoned Sunrise, I can add Miracle Fusion to my hand," Jaden said, negating the discard cost of Super Poly. "Sunrise's attack also goes up by two hundred thanks to his effect. Also, because your Sunrise left the field, your monster's attack returns to normal." Jaden said as the aura around Absolute Zero faded while Jaden's Sunrise gained a white aura.
Elemental HERO Sunrise: LIGHT/ Level 7/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 2700/1200
Elemental HERO Absolute Zero: WATER/ Level 8/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 2500/2000
"Battle! Elemental HERO Sunrise! Attack Absolute Zero! Radiant Solar Flair!" The monster creates a miniature sun, firing beams at my monster.
Why didn't Jaden use his normal summon? Could it be that he doesn't have another monster card in his hand? No. The more likely answer is he's baiting me into using my facedown.
And sadly, I have to take the bait.
"I activate my set card, Mask Change!" My remaining set card flips up, revealing the same spell card I used to summon Dark Law. "I target the WATER attribute Absolute Zero to summon Masked HERO Acid from my extra deck! HENSHIN!" Zero's mask crumbles away, causing a bright flash of light to blind us shortly. When the light dies, a new monster takes Zero's place, spinning his gun like a sheriff from an old Western film.
Masked HERO Acid: WATER/ Level 8/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 2600/2100
"Acid and Zero's effects trigger, though Acid's effect doesn't matter much as you don't have any cards in your spell and trap zone. Acid does have an effect to lower your monster's attack by three hundred points, but it won't be around, thanks to Zero's effect! Because Absolute Zero left the field, it destroys all your monsters!" The ghostly image of Absolute Zero appears, punching the ground and causing ice spikes to spawn, stabbing Jaden's Sunrise and causing it to break into golden particles.
"Main Phase Two," Jaden said, not shaken from his monster's destruction. "I play Convert Contact. Because I control no monsters, I can send a Neo-Spacian from my deck and hand to draw two cards. I sent Neo-Spacian Air Hummingbird from my hand and Neo-Spacian Glow Moss from my deck to the grave to draw two!" Jaden looks at his drawn cards before playing one of them. "I play Contact Gate! By banishing two 'Neo-Spacian' monsters from my grave, I can summon two Neo-Spacians from my hand, deck, or grave as long as they have different names from the ones I banished. Come! Neo-Spacian Flare Scarab! Neo-Spacian Grand Mole!" The humanoid insect and cartoonish-looking mole appear on Jaden's field.
Neo-Spacian Flare Scarab: FIRE/ Level 3/ Insect/ Effect - 500/500
Neo-Spacian Grand Mole: EARTH/ Level 3/ Rock/ Effect - 900/300
"I summon Neo Space Connector!" A monster resembling Neos stands between the insect and the mole.
Neo Space Connector: LIGHT/ Level 4/ Warrior/ Effect - 800/1800
"When I summon Connector, I can summon a Neo-Spacian from my hand or deck. I summon Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin!" A spout of water shoots up, breaking away to reveal the humanoid dolphin.
Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin: WATER/ Level 3/ Warrior/ Effect - 600/800
"I play the spell card, Foolish Burial, to send Elemental HERO Neos from my deck to the grave," Jaden said, revealing his ace monster before sending it to the grave. "Now, I activate Connector's other effect! By tributing this card, I can special summon a 'Neo-Spacian' monster or Elemental HERO Neos from my grave in defense mode. Come! Neos!" The space superhero rises from the grave, taking Connector's spot.
Elemental HERO Neos: LIGHT/ Level 7/ Warrior - 2500/2000
I can't help but smile at the sight of Neos taking the field. Not only am I dueling against Jaden, but now I'm facing his ace monster. You can't get a better rush than this.
I know Jaden is going for a contact fusion, but which one? He already used his Battle Phase, so Magma and Flair Neos wouldn't make sense. The most sensible move would be to contact fuse Grand Mole and Neo for Grand Neos to send Acid back to my hand, but then it won't explain why Jaden went through the trouble of summoning Aqua Dolphin and Flare Scarab. If the purpose were to strengthen his defenses because Grand Neos will be shuffled back to his extra deck during the End Phase, then Jaden would have summoned them in defense mode, not attack.
"Since you showed me something cool, I'll return the favor. But before that, I play the spell card, Space Gift,to draw one card for each differently named Neo-Spacian I control. Since I control three, I draw three cards!" Jaden gives me a smirk, returning his hand size to four before pointing at his monsters. "Neos! Grand Mole! Flair Scarab! Aqua Dolphin! Quadruple Contract Fusion!" The four monsters jump upwards, the colorful vertex changing into the depths of space as the four monsters head straight towards the center of a galaxy. "Come from the depths of Neo Space! Elemental HERO Cosmo Neos!"
Elemental HERO Cosmo Neos: LIGHT/ Level 11/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 3500/3000
A mixture of Magma, Storm, and Chaos Neos floats on the field, staring me down.
"Cosmo Neos's effect makes it so you can't activate any cards or effects until the end of the turn, though it doesn't matter much now. I set a card and played Neo Space, giving Cosmo Neos a five hundred attack point boost and preventing it from shuffling in my extra deck during the End Phase. I end my turn."
Elemental HERO Cosmo Neos: LIGHT/ Level 11/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 4000/3000
A four thousand-attack beat stick with a set card. Where is Trinity when you need him? Not that I run him anyway. For some reason, the shop doesn't allow me to buy Vision HEROs. If I could run Vision and Destiny HEROs, my current predicament wouldn't be such an issue.
That doesn't mean I don't have an out. However, it isn't in my hand. All I have is Stratos, RotA, Mask Charge, and Polymerization. Just like any Yu-Gi-OH, the next draw decides it.
"My turn. Draw. I play Legacy of a HERO. I can draw three cards by returning two fusion monsters that require a 'HERO' monster as its fusion material. I return Absolute Zero and Sunrise to draw three cards!" I said, drawing the cards I needed to win.
"I play Form Change! I can return a 'HERO' fusion monster to my extra deck to special summon a 'Masked HERO' monster with the same original level as the monster I returned. I return Masked HERO Acid to summon the level eight Masked HERO Koga! CHOU HENSHIN!" Acid's mask shatters, revealing a golden mask underneath it.
"Another fusion summoning technique?!" Ray yells, but I ignore her.
Masked HERO Koga: LIGHT/ Level 8/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 2500/1800
"Koga gains five hundred attack points for each monster you control, so Koga gains five hundred," I explain the Light Masked HERO's effect.
Masked HERO Koga: LIGHT/ Level 8/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 3000/1800
"I normal summon Stratos!" The blue wind hero takes to the field once more.
Elemental HERO Stratos: WIND/ Level 4/ Warrior/ Effect - 1800/300
"I activate Stratos's effect to add Elemental HERO Sparkman to my hand." Yes. I'm running Sparkman. It's stronger than Flash and Voltic, and I don't have Prisma. "I play Polymerization to fuse Sparkman from my hand with Stratos! Arise once again, Elemental HERO Sunrise!"
Elemental HERO Sunrise: LIGHT/ Level 7/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 2500/1200
"Sunrise's effect adds another Miracle Fusion to my hand, and my monsters gain two hundred attack points!" My monsters gain a white aura as I only control LIGHT-attributed monsters.
Elemental HERO Sunrise: LIGHT/ Level 7/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 2700/1200
Masked HERO Koga: LIGHT/ Level 8/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 3200/1800
"I play Miracle Fusion, banishing Stratos and Sparkman to summon Elemental HERO The Shining!" A white superhero with a large golden ring on his back stands next to Sunrise.
Elemental HERO The Shining: LIGHT/ Level 8/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 2600/2100
"The Shining gains three hundred attack points for each banished 'Elemental HERO' monster I have. I have four, meaning The Shining gains twelve hundred attack points plus another two hundred thanks to Sunrise's effect! So, the total is fourteen hundred!" My monster yells from the massive spike in power.
Elemental HERO The Shining: LIGHT/ Level 8/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 4000/2100
"I activate Koga's effect! By banishing a 'HERO' monster, your monster loses attack points equal to the banished monster's! I banished Dark Law, causing Cosmo Neos to lose twenty-four hundred attack points!" The ghostly figure of Dark Law appears behind Cosmo Neos, grabbing him and causing the space superhero to weaken.
Elemental HERO Cosmo Neos: LIGHT/ Level 11/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 1600/3000
"And because another HERO was banished, The Shining gains another three hundred attack points!" My white-armored monster cheers as he passes the four-thousand attack point benchmark.
Elemental HERO The Shining: LIGHT/ Level 8/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 4300/2100
"Battle! I attack Cosmo Neos with Koga!" The golden superhero lunges at the weakened space hero.
While I could use Sunrise's effect to pop Cosmo Neos, I'm slightly worried that Jaden's set card is the anime-only Elemental Mirage. Elemental Mirage's effect brings back Elemental HEROs when destroyed by a card's effect. Plus, if I pop it, it would defeat the purpose of using Koga's effect.
Koga unleashes a flurry of blows at Cosmo Neos, causing the monster to explode.
Jaden LP: 2400
"The Shining! Attack Jaden directly!" I yell, not believing what I'm saying.
I'm going to win. I'm going to beat Jaden!
"I activate my set card, The Flute of Summoning Kuriboh! I summon Winged Kuriboh in defense mode!" The little brown fuzzball with wings appears, letting a small, cute cry.
Winged Kuriboh: LIGHT/ Level 1/ Fairy/ Effect - 300/200
"God damn it!" I couldn't help but swear. However, can you blame me? I never thought I would ever sympathize with the GX villains. I didn't call off The Shining's attack nor use Sunrise's effect to destroy the tiny monster, as Winged Kuriboh's effect would trigger regardless of how I destroyed it.
I sigh as I look at my hand. Legacy of a HERO helped get Form Change, but the other two cards were A Hero Lives and Elemental Hero Solid Soldier. One is a brick, and the other is not useful.
"I end my turn," I said.
"My turn! Draw! I play Neos Fusion! I can use material from my deck to summon a 'Neos' fusion monster that only takes two materials. Neos! Yubel!" The superhero and man/woman demon appear on the field before fusing. "I fusion summon Elemental HERO Neos Kluger!" A monster that looks very similar to Neos Wiseman floats down to the field.
Elemental HERO Neos Kluger: LIGHT/ Level 9/ Spellcaster/ Fusion/ Effect - 3000/2500
"Battle! Neos Kluger attacks The Shining! Kluger's effect activates! When this card attacks, before damage calculation, I can damage my opponent equal to the attack of the monster Kluger is battling!"
SHIT!
"I trigger Sunrise's effect! When a battle involving one of my 'HERO's occurs, I can target a card on the field and destroy said card! I choose Kluger!" I yell. Sunrise is about to fire a blast of pure sunlight at Jaden's fusion monster.
"I play Effect Shut from my hand!" Jaden counters.
Effect Shut is an anime-only card with a simple but powerful effect.
When an opponent activates a monster effect, you can use that card to negate and destroy that monster.
And with nothing to stop Jaden's quick-play spell, my Sunrise was destroyed, exploding in a fiery ball of glory.
Elemental HERO The Shining: LIGHT/ Level 8/ Warrior/ Fusion/ Effect - 4100/2100
Damn it. I was close to beating Jaden.
My eyes didn't move from the scene before me. Kluger envelops The Shining in a light-blue light, and my life points reach zero.
Yukito LP: 0
Jaden: Winner
"Gotcha. That was quite a fun duel." Jaden said, striking his famous pose.
"Yeah. It was a fun duel." I nod. Sure, while anger and frustration were welling inside me, it would be wrong to say I didn't enjoy the duel. It was one of the best duels I had since coming here. No. It was the best duel I had since arriving here. "I look forward to a rematch," I said, sticking out my hand.
"Same. Nothing beats a Hero vs Hero duel!" Jaden grabs my hand and shakes. "What's your name?"
"Shouldn't you already know it because of my power?" I ask. None of the other duelists ever asked me for my name before.
"Yeah, but I want to hear it from you," Jaden said.
"Yukito. My name is Masumi Yukito."
"Well, I'm looking forward to our next duel~!" Jaden smiles at me. However, Jaden's face takes on a more somber expression. "Yukito, I don't have much time left. I have to ask you something."
"And that is?"
"Are you okay with going down this path?" Jaden's eyes never moved away from mine. "If you continue down your chosen path, you'll have to endure several painful moments. Sometimes, those moments will be so painful that giving up is tempting. Do you think you can resist such temptations when facing those trials?"
Jaden must be speaking about his experiences from trying to rescue Johan and becoming the Supreme King. Back when losing a duel equals death. And when he watched his friends fade away, believing that they died.
"It would be a lie if I said I wanted to play the hero role. If I could, I would rather someone else take the role. But I can't just sit by and do nothing when I know people will die." I stare straight at Jaden, not once blinking. "I would rather endure those painful moments than sit on my ass and do nothing. I couldn't stand the guilt of not knowing if I could make a difference."
Jaden's lips curl into a small smile. "I see. I look forward to our next meeting." Jaden said before walking towards the colorful void. Once Jaden's figure disappears, the void returns to its original white state.
Even though Jaden is gone, his question still rattles in my mind.
I know how far Leo is willing to go to revive his daughter. He turned the children of the Fusion dimension into duel soldiers who take pleasure from the pain and suffering they caused, believing their actions will create a utopia. He funded the research of some mad scientist who created bugs that mind-control people. Leo even put those same mind-controlling bugs into the heads of four girls even though they have his daughter's face. Leo knew that those girls were parts of his daughter and still did it regardless.
If my actions only put myself at risk, I can live with it just fine. But that isn't the case at all.
I do have something to lose.
I have my parents. I have Kenji, and Kenji has his family.
If Leo realizes that I intend to go against his plan and sees me as a threat to his plans, then he has plenty of options to try and stop me. He could go after my family. Go after Kenji and use their brain parasitics on him, or threaten Kenji's family and force us to fight each other.
If I want to stop Leo and his insane plans, I will put my family and friends at risk.
I know this, but I can't just sit around and do nothing!
How can I live with myself if I sit by while knowing countless people will die?! If I stand around doing nothing, then it would be no different from killing those people myself! How many were like Shun?! Someone who lost family and friends because Leo can't accept that his daughter died?!
I came to this world with knowledge of future events of this world and the power to create cards far beyond this show's era! If I sit on my ass, close my eyes, and cover my ears while pretending not to know what the big picture is, then I would be no better than Leo. No. I would be worse than him. I would be nothing more than a hypocrite. Someone who damns Leo's actions while never doing anything about it.
Since I'm part of the Fusion dimension, I do not doubt that my parents will send me to Academia. Even if I bury my head in the sand for as long as possible, Academia will force me to invade the XYZ dimension to card people. A task that I can't do.
And once they realize that I refuse to card people for Leo's sick machine, they will card me instead.
Running away isn't an option. My only option is to fight.
But I'm not going to lie to myself. I'm no hero or saint. If I could pass the responsibilities to someone else, I would have long ago! I continuously ask myself why god or some other higher power chose me. There are better Yu-Gi-Oh players than me! They should've taken someone who won the World Tournament, not some guy who only played locals! I know nothing about strategies or tactics for war! A famous general would have been better!
So why me?! Was it because I watched the anime?!
I sigh to myself. There is no point in complaining. If I have time to complain, I have time to improve my skills and deck. Besides, I did make a promise to Jaden to duel him again. I was close to beating Jaden with my current deck, but I don't think it's enough. I need Dark Law's ace monster skill and quite a bit of luck for that endboard. I must unlock the other HERO cards to bring this deck to its fullest potential.
Yes, I still plan on facing Jaden with HEROs. It only seems fitting.
As I was about to duel another person in the void, I noticed the mission notice that popped up before my duel with Jaden. I must've forgotten to close it this whole time.
Special Mission: Defeat the Legendary Duelist Jaden
Reward: Neos Force Booster Pack, Super Polymerization, Yubel's Loving Darkness Booster Pack, Fragment of Fusion
Failure: Unable to challenge Jaden for one year
Fragment of Fusion? What the hell is that?
I remember tapping a booster pack from the shop tells me what cards I'm likely to find in said booster pack. Maybe it does the same for this?
Fragment of Fusion - When the Original Dimension split, it created four elements, one for each summoning type: Fusion, Synchro, XYZ, and Pendulum. You can use the four elements to revive Ray Akaba without fusing her counterparts.
I can't help but laugh. How convenient. A way to bring Ray back without causing mass destruction. Sadly, I doubt Leo will simply take my word for it. And considering Jaden is guarding the Fusion element, the other elements must be blocked by characters like Yusei or other powerful duelists.
Doing this will be hard. Incredibly hard. But that doesn't mean impossible.
I can worry about tackling this mission later. For now, I have quite a lot to discuss with Ray.
