Chapter 32
A/N: Part 2 - Added 08/16/2022
Part 1 - 08/01/2022
Petrie is here to help? Yea right. Her attitude does seem to be different from before though. That's because, according to Amy, she had an awakening after surviving an illness that left her in a coma for 2 days which was shocking to hear but that doesn't mean she doesn't have other motives. Not being allowed to leave proves it. But she's allowing us to call whoever we want so that's strange. She's not the only one who's acting strange. Amy is too since she's acting like she works for Petrie. Questions are expected but not from her especially not this question.
"no" Lucy responded for Adalyn since the question is ridiculous. What does her marital status have anything to do with this?
"Who do you work for?"
"She doesn't have a job at the moment because the Russians tried to kill her because they think she knows about the keys but she doesn't." Lucy again responded for Adalyn while noticing Amy's dissatisfaction.
"How well do you know Dr. Harrington? Do you work for her?"
"She doesn't."
"What're you doing?"
"I'm telling you what you want to know." Lucy regretted responding with that and not telling Amy about Adalyn after she abruptly stood up but that's because 7 hours ago wasn't a good time. The body needed rest. This morning wasn't either because Adalyn needed help. If she had someone stay in the same room with her like the doctor recommended, she would have help walking to the bathroom. She would not have fallen, then her sprained ankle would not have been worse than before. None of that is Amy's fault but getting these questions now is. It's breakfast time and those aren't important. Saying that would surely get her more upset. It would be better to apologize since it's the only way to get Amy to cool down and the only way to get her to stop asking is start asking Petrie more important questions. "Did you find out? Is he really dead?" Seven hours should be enough time to find out but not for those who work for the government. It could take days, maybe months to get the permission to dig up Jack's grave if there is one. If he's cremated, then it'll be impossible.
"Who told you about that place?"
This is a nice living room in a very expensive hotel but now it's starting to feel like an interrogation room even if this old woman did ask nicely. Since she asked, then it must mean she hasn't yet found out about Jack but she found out who that place belongs to. A foreign company? That's odd. Doc did say the programmer's name is Shyam but didn't say where he's from. That sounds like an Indian name but why would an Indian work for a Singapore company? Maybe he's a friend? "Who owns the company? He or she? What's their relationship? Any social media accounts? Did you check" Lucy stopped asking after getting a signal from Amy. This time, Amy didn't stand up but the squeeze on the lap under the table means shut up and listen. Fine. Petrie didn't continue but Amy did but why is she asking the same question as 7 hours ago? What happened inside the house is not important. Find out where Jack is is.
"That place is under renovation. Did you know?"
"so?" Amy must be exposed to the dirty air in NYC for too long because why else would she think her explanation make sense? Just because no one has been living there, it doesn't mean no one was there last night. Even if he's not, he could've been watching and controlling that place from somewhere else. Even Scud thinks that's possible. The only way to find out is search the place. Seven hours ago was too dangerous to go inside. Now is not. So why do they care about getting sued for trespassing when they didn't seven hours ago? "So you're going to wait until you get a search warrant?" That's what it sounds like until Amy explained that getting a search warrant would let more people know. Since the owner hasn't yet filed a police report, it's possible he doesn't want anyone to know either. "Ssso…what? you're going to wait?" Lucy asked again while wondering how long Amy has been hanging around with Petrie since she again responded in her place.
"She's doing everything she can." Amy said.
That makes no sense. Dean and Doc haven't been found. That other guy is most likely dead. Whoever owns that place might try to cover it up. With over 5 acres of land surrounded by trees, he'll be able to do so easily. Petrie should already know that so why is she still sipping tea like there's no rush? Now it's necessary to remind her what the key is for. "There are bombs on this island and the others. I know it sounds crazy. If you don't believe it, that's fine. But we can't stay here." Lucy said without explaining further since there's no need to but realized later there's a need to since Petrie just asked an asinine question. "Why do you think? Create chaos. That's what they've been doing for years." Godd. Her brain must be failing at a rapid rate. How did she get rehired?
"Create more chaos"
"YES" Lucy said in an obvious tone while wondering if her hearing is failing too.
"Is that what Dr. Harrington told you?"
"no" Lucy sighed loudly to let her know she's tired with the stupid questions but that did nothing since Petrie just asked another. "What day is it?" There must be a reason why she asked other than the obvious. "What?" Even Amy looks confused.
"It's Saturday, November seventh…twenty twenty"
"sohhh" Lucy said, still confused with the question until Amy said the sociopath lost. "I told you he would." There was no need to watch the news to know. If they did, then that means they still don't get it. "The Russians knew he would lose. They knew their plan isn't going to work this time. That's why they can't wait any longer. That's why they're doing this now, not 4 years ago, not last year." Get it? They should but it doesn't look like they're convinced. Oh well. "Oh shit."
Lucy immediately stood up after realizing there's another possibility.
"Their guy lost. Nothing's happening. They're going to wait, after he leaves office. Then they're going to do it." That makes sense. Just because he lost doesn't mean he's not in charge now. Transfer of power hasn't happened yet. Why do they still look confused? Doesn't matter. "We should still leave here." Lucy said, taking a glance at Adalyn then quickly looked back at Amy because she disagrees.
"I think we should stay until you get better."
What's wrong with her? She should know Delmonte might send more of his people. Even if there are agents here, this place isn't safe. "Listen to me." Lucy said but was immediately interrupted with an explanation that again makes no sense. Just 7 hours ago, Amy said they caught Delmonte's guys and Adalyn's and Doc's so how the hell did they all escaped? Francois didn't. Aria didn't either? That's good news but having her here in this hotel is not.
"You want to talk to her?" Amy took a step forward towards the direction of the door but was immediately held back as expected. "You have something to tell me?"
She knows? She must have found out this morning since she didn't mention Aria 7 hours ago but how much does she know? "Everything she said is a lie."
"Sso she's not your ex?"
"She's not my ex. I don't know who she is. Everything she said is a lie."
"Then how come she knows so much about you?"
"You cannot trust her. Okay? See this." Lucy pulls down her collar to allow Amy to see. "She tazed me. I have burns everywhere. She tried to urinate in my mouth. She's crazy." Amy doesn't look surprised. Why? Maybe she already knows Aria is crazy?
"She said you don't remember her because"
"She's lying. I don't know who she is. Scud doesn't know who she is. Anthony doesn't either. Don't you think they would know?"
"Scud also said you had so many, he can't remember all of them."
What! Why the heck would he say that? He's definitely not as smart as he used to be now that he's a father. "She's a fake. All she wants is money." Amy is not naïve but sometimes her jealousy gets in the way.
"I know"
She knows? Then what's up with all the questions?
"She said you offered 50 million to keep her quiet."
God…damn her. She is crazy. Admitting it won't help. Denying it won't either but this will. Letting her know about Aria's bad marriage and the negative experiences she had when she was trying out acting will let her know what type of person Aria is. If she didn't know about Aria's relationship with Brooke before, she does now. It might not be a good idea to let her know but she should now know how Aria knows so much.
"So I offered, to get her to stay away because I felt bad...and because she was driving me crazy." There's no need to say it loudly with frustration but this would let Amy know how I feel. It seems to be working. Amy doesn't look the same way as before. That's a look of worry. It's just a minor cut. It'll heal. The gentle touch feels as good as seven hours ago. The hug has more than just a calming effect. It has been 6 months so having these thoughts can't be controlled but at the same time it feels weird since there are others around. Amy can't see with her back turned but Adalyn can. Petrie can. Adalyn is pretending not to but Petrie is watching like a perv. It may be just a hug but still, this isn't the right place or the time. Why is she finger combing my scalp? Okay, now it's obvious. "I'm fine. I didn't hit my head." Just the forehead but it's not a dent or bump; it's more than just a scratch but nothing serious.
"I know...why you can't remember."
"What?"
"I know how to get your memory back."
"What!"
Part 2
That wasn't loud but the mind is thinking what's wrong with her? If Scud heard the explanation given, he too would wonder if she is Amy or a doppelganger. That's because Amy knows that treatment for memory loss depends on the cause and even if the cause is known, there is no known cure so why is she so confident and why is she suggesting hypnotherapy again when she already knows there are side effects? Hypnosis is known to have successfully helped patients quit smoking and lose weight but it's also known to cause false memories. She's the one who said that the last time and was quite proud of it after winning a game of Scrabble with the word confabulation especially when no one knew what that word meant except for Holly. Did she forget already?
"I know what you're afraid of but you don't have to be. You weren't"
"Okay, what did you do with my wife?" Lucy said to Petrie after taking a few steps away from Amy who obviously didn't find that funny. It's not meant to be a joke. Amy does look different than 6 months ago. She's thinner and the black hair definitely took away that cuteness and the innocence she used to have. One thing hasn't changed though. She may have said 'can you excuse us?' to Adalyn but the tone shows how she really feels. Adalyn doesn't need to if she doesn't want to. Maybe she does need to go to the bathroom.
"Do you want a personal care assistant? We can get you one."
And there it is again. She should know what happened the last time Adalyn tried to walk by herself. Even with the help of crutches, walking with them can be difficult especially with body aches, bruises, and the stitched up wound so why is she expecting her to? Just ignore her. That's exactly what Adalyn did without being told to which is probably the wrong thing to do since Amy now looks more pissed than before. She might feel that way but she hasn't given up. So what if I wasn't brainwashed like she was, that doesn't mean hypnosis will work in my case. No one can guarantee there won't be side effects, not even an experienced hypnotist.
"You're going to like her. She's nice and"
"Okay, what did you do to her?" Lucy interrupted Amy to stop her from talking since she's talking like a car salesman but that didn't stop Amy from continuing. Petrie did though but "what!" It's hard to hear with both of them talking at the same time and Petrie's voice was too soft to hear.
"Hannah…wasn't a double agent."
Ohh…really. Now that's surprising coming from Petrie since she had said before Hannah was a double agent even though no one else knew. Amy must have known since she doesn't look surprised when Petrie said it was overwhelming stress that put her in a coma either. That can happen especially at her age if she has diabetes or high blood pressure but losing the ability to talk and move after waking up? Oh man. This would explain the change in her behavior but this is just getting ridiculous. Hypnosis is known to treat stress, not recover memories and certainly not paralysis.
"It helped me…see things…more clearly."
What is wrong with her? What's wrong with Amy? She looks like she's been hypnotized; she's looking at Petrie with a small but noticeable smile. Doesn't she know those are just words? There's no way to prove it and "You work for the worst liar on this planet. You expect me to believe you?" Lucy immediately extended her palm towards Amy in case she wants to say something to defend Petrie again. It's rude and it won't stop Amy from talking if she wants to but it worked. "Tell me. Why does he want the keys? For himself...or for his foreign friends?" Amy should get it now but why does she look like she has no clue what I'm talking about? Petrie didn't deny it but she wants to talk privately in the bedroom which is a great suggestion because if Amy were here, she would have something to say after this. "I don't want to hurt you but I will so you better tell me right now, what'd you do to her?" Last time, she threatened Amy. This time, Amy is acting like she's been brainwashed. Petrie seems to be too since the old Petrie would have responded with warnings and threats. She might not have but she just proved she hasn't changed at all since the old Petrie would say and do anything to get what she wants and she just did. Other than the part where she admitted to having Amy followed after finding out she was in New York, the other part where she said she saved Amy in New York is obviously another lie. "So who did it? Did you get him or were there too many people in New York so he got away?"
"We're looking into it."
"Bullshit. It was you. You shot her. You made it look like someone is after her. You wanted her to trust you so you made up this miraculous recovery story." Why isn't she denying it? She didn't admit it either but surprisingly she admitted to wanting the keys and that's not all. Does Scud know his prediction came true? An accident did happen with the liquid nitrogen. Does he know there's nothing in that sea urchin thing? If not, he will later. He too would think that Petrie is nuts to even think that I would agree just because she said hypnosis worked for her. "So what if I don't agree?"
"Don't you want to get your memory back?"
Well well, that's another unexpected response. It seems that she has changed. She got smarter. The way she described how hypnosis works shows that she has done her homework. She's talking like a professional. A professional hypnotist would give examples to make it easier for others to understand. She's doing the same by using millions of people who support the most hated man in America as an example.
"They know he's dishonest. They know what he's done. They refused to believe what he is…because that would mean they're wrong…they don't want to admit it. So in a way, they have been hypnotized…only because they allowed it to happen."
Is she talking about herself? Sounds like it. It also sounds like she has another problem. "Now I know why Mr. P always took his time. You're talking like him." There were many pauses. What? Was she expecting me to say yes, I'll do it?
"My point is…hypnosis cannot…make you do anything…against your will."
"Really? Who told you that?" Whoever did it to her must not have a lot of experience.
"Is it because of Aria?"
What…the hell. The only reason she would ask that is if she heard from Aria. If she knows, then Amy must know too. "I'm going to say this one more time. If you want the key, go find Jack. Go find Shyam." Lucy said before heading for the door since talking any longer is a waste of time.
"I'm here to help you."
That's what Amy said but hearing it from her now, it's not funny at all. That's because Amy didn't say how Petrie got rehired. "Help me? Do you know what you got yourself into? You work for a traitor, you're not the only one who's going to get burned. Your family and" Lucy didn't continue after getting pushed back by the door that suddenly opened. Well that's rude. She didn't even knock first.
"We have a problem."
For a doctor, she sure isn't acting like one. Doctors are usually calm even when there is an emergency. This must be her first time. Petrie approves? Well, I don't. "I don't want to see her. She's crazy. Why don't you just" Lucy trailed off after noticing no one else is in the living room. "Where's my wife?" Lucy didn't wait for an answer from the doctor since the answer just became obvious. There's no need to ask where Aria's room is since the noise can be heard in the hallway. Reserving half of the second floor now seems like a good idea otherwise guests and hotel staffs would want to know who's screaming inside. "What you doin? Get out of my way." Lucy said to the male agent who's blocking the door, then realized even the doctor doesn't have the authority to tell him what to do. Only Petrie does and she's moving as fast as someone who weighs 400 pounds. Jesus. At least she knows she's slow. Approval by hand signal is given. Order accepted. Door is opened. What the hell happened? Aria isn't threatening to hurt herself like the doctor said. She's cursing at Amy since her hands are cuffed behind her back and her body is being pinned down in an uncomfortable position with belly facing down against the floor. Adalyn is rapidly waving her hand. I'm comin. That's not so easy to do since another agent is blocking the way.
"OWWW!"
That sounds as fake as the last time on the plane but it got the doctor's sympathy. It got Petrie who finally made it to give the order. Amy reluctantly got off Aria but it didn't stop Aria from cursing at Amy which is a very stupid thing to do. If the doctor isn't in the way, Aria would've regretted calling her the B word.
"What happened?" Petrie asked.
"She attacked me for no reason." Aria said.
Does she know that question was not meant for her? Even if it is, does she really think Petrie would believe her over Amy who didn't answer the question but the agent did. What…the HELL. There's no need to ask Adalyn since the agent just explained why Aria was threatening to hurt herself a few minutes ago. It's not because she was sick of being treated like a prisoner. It's not because she wants to see Adalyn. It's because she wanted to get the mini flashlight back from Adalyn which then led to this because Amy thinks that it could be a video recorder. "Is it?" Adalyn denied knowing anything about it but admitted that Aria gave it to her prior to going to that place for protection since it's also mini stun gun. A mini flashlight, stun gun, and a video recorder? How big is it? It must be very small since Amy is not holding anything except her fists. She must think it is since she's asking for the password.
"Don't know what you're talking about. Get these off. Oww, my back."
Whether she's pretending or not, this time it didn't work. The handcuffs stay on. Sitting on the floor should be better than lying on her belly but why is she still cursing at Amy? Why is she still pretending to be the victim? Why is the doctor allowed to stay when the agent can't? Why is Petrie still asking for the password in a nice calm manner?
"If you want to know what happened, just ask him."
So it's not a video recorder? Whether it is or not, it no longer matters since Amy is demanding an answer to the same question she asked 7 hours ago and Aria's comment afterwards (Why are you hiding it from her?) is making this situation worse. "Let's talk somewhere else." Lucy reached for Amy's forearm, then realized what Amy is thinking after she pulled back and stepped back. "I know you're curious but knowing what happened is not going to help you." Lucy took a glance at Petrie since that's meant for her too.
"Then tell me. I want to know what happened. How did you save her? Did you save her like how you saved me and all the women you slept with?..."
"Shut…up." Lucy said, holding the urge to say it louder.
"Make me. It's not the first time you used force on me. My hands are already tied so you don't have to. No one else saw how you treated me. No one believes me. Now, they'll know. C'mon. It might help you remember me."
God, she's so annoying. "Don't listen to her." No response is given but clearly, Amy doesn't want to listen either since she's walking away. Good idea but it's not a good idea for Adalyn to be speaking up right now. Did she think Amy won't look at it just because she said Don't look at it.
"He's just trying to protect me. I don't want anyone to know. Please."
Lucy nodded twice even though no questions were asked while knowing it might not work since Amy isn't going to believe someone whom she doesn't know. It didn't. Adalyn isn't giving up either but what is she doing? Saying wait didn't work. How is throwing the crutch in front of Amy going to stop her from leaving? It will only slow her down. Why is she still trying? Can't she read my lips?
"He wanted them to rape me!"
Ohh Adalyn. The crutch wouldn't work but this did. Adalyn's explanation wasn't detailed but should be enough to let Amy know what the situation was like at that moment and why she doesn't want anyone to look at it even though rape didn't happen. No one wants their most vulnerable moment to be seen or heard by anyone, especially their near death confessions.
"I said some things I didn't mean…because I thought I was going to die. I'm sorry."
There's no need to apologize to Amy. Or is that apology for me?
"I owe you my life but I'm not going to sleep with you. I didn't mean it."
There's no need to say that either even if it is just to show Amy that she has no interest in me. Does she know that sounds like I requested it? "She was having a panic attack and trouble breathing and other issues; she said a lot of crazy things" Lucy said while wondering what Amy is thinking and not just her. No one has anything to say including Aria, surprisingly.
"I'm sorry."
Amy has a bad habit of apologizing for everything even if it's not her fault. This isn't her fault but she was being mean to Adalyn earlier so maybe she's apologizing to Adalyn for that?
"We will find him. We'll make sure he will never be able to do that to anyone ever again."
That means it didn't work. If it did, she would've have given the flashlight back. Blocking her way isn't going to work, Adalyn.
"I already told you what happened. Why do you still want to look at it?"
"Because I want to find out who he is. I promise I'm not going to let anyone else look at it."
"I understand why you don't trust me but don't you trust him?"
Ohh…Adalyn. That's a good plan. A conversation on trust came up a few times before and many times, it ended up with an apology from Amy. It might just work. "You don't trust me?" Lucy asked since it's the only way to get Amy to give up the flashlight.
"Of course I doo…but sometimes you're wrong so I just want to see if there"
(gasp) What Amy was thinking of is obvious even if she didn't continue but what the heck is Adalyn doing? Doesn't she know Amy used to be an agent or does she really think she can take the flashlight from her without her knowing while she's talking?
"Get it! It's in her back pocket."
Does she think it would be that easy even if she's wrapping around Amy's upper body? Ooh, that's gotta hurt. Adalyn may have avoided a hit by using her whole body weight to pull Amy down with her but that's not going to work. Holding Amy close with her arms and legs is a very bad idea. It's now necessary to jump in before Amy punches Adalyn in the face. "AH!" Lucy immediately let go of Amy after getting elbowed in the right eye which she wasn't expecting and is now regretting more and more for coming here after Aria cheered Amy on.
"I told you not to do that." Amy said.
Yes she did, many times. Never surprise her or grab her from behind especially not in front of others and especially not her chest. That was unintentional.
"you okay?" Amy said in an apologetic tone.
"nnno…sss" That hurts. Adalyn too is groaning in pain to the point where tears can now be seen. Is she faking it? Amy might think so but the doctor doesn't since she just asked Adalyn to lie back down so she can take a look at the stitched up wound and the sprained ankle.
"Please. I'm begging you."
Ohh Adalyn. If she could, she probably would kneel. If this doesn't work, then nothing will. "just give me the damn thing" Lucy said, extending her left hand while covering the right eye with the other.
"She's hiding something. Can't you see that?" Apparently not and not now with one injured eye. The only way to prove it is by asking questions. "Tell me, how does a 19 year old with no income pay for college that costs $70,000 a year to become a lawyer?" Amy asked while knowing that Lucy might tell her to back off. She did but not using those 2 words.
"Leave her alone. It's not a video recorder."
Surprisingly, Aria did too. That's not the surprising part. It's what she said afterwards. Not only did she revealed that she's the snitch, she just proved Lucy's point. It was Petrie's agents who found Aria suspicious in the Langham Hotel. It was Petrie's plan to use Aria to find out who else is involved. Putting a bug in Aria's phone was necessary but she never said she gave Aria a necklace and a spy pen, both of which Aria said she lost. She never said the tracker that was supposed to be placed into Lucy's clothing without her knowledge is also a listening device. "You lied to me?" Amy asked, expecting Petrie to give a better explanation than just deny it but wasn't expecting Lucy to do the same thing Adalyn did a moment ago while Aria is describing what could've been recorded in the tracker. Obviously, she still thinks the flashlight is a video recorder and doesn't want me to know what happened on the plane. "Let go."
"Just give it ARGHH!" It's not the eye this time. It's every muscle, every nerve, every cell in the body. It is a stun gun. It may be mini but it's as painful as the last time. Shut up. Lucy said in her own mind since she doesn't have the energy to say it out loud but even if she does, it wouldn't stop Aria from laughing.
"Do it again! for all the women he mistreated!"
