:A road outside Gravesfield/ June 23rd 8:30 PM:
In a forest nearby a town a woman was driving a grey car calmly, she was wearing a red dress and golden earrings and her hair was grey with some strands of white on it. She was casually driving with one hand in the steering wheel while whistling a soft tune.
"Well that was a nice haul don't you think king?" She turned around to look at her companion: a black cat with yellow eyes and a red collar on. The most remarkable feature was its ears: one of them was shorter than the other and it looked as if it was cut.
*Meow* the feline rolled his eyes with a boring expression on its face.
"Oh come on it wasn't that bad, it's not like they saw my face" The cat turned around and started licking itself but then he suddenly his hair stood on end and hissed.
"What's gotten into you now-WHOA" The woman yelled when she felt the car shake and pulled both of her hands in the wheel "What is going on!"
The car elevated for a few seconds as if it defied gravity; they hovered a couple of feet above the ground and before she had time to process what was happening it came down in the road. The car wasn't the only thing to float, several objects inside and outside floated at the same time and crashed into the floor once the effect ended.
"Ahh fuck I hope nothing broke" The woman hot the breaks and looked around evaluating the damage "What the hell was that?"
She got out of the car to investigate around and when she looked up her mouth dropped; she had expected to see the summer night sky with a few stars on it but what she saw was a blur of unnatural lights of different colors moving in the sky.
"Holy shit, King did the asshole that we just scammed spice my drink or something? Because I think the northern lights aren't supposed to be a thing in summer this far south" The stream of colors assembled into several groups and they started forming rectangular shapes reminding her of doors, once they were formed they started expanding and separating.
"I don't know what's going on but we need to get out of here!" Said the woman getting inside the car again.
She tried to drive away but it happened one more time, it looked like the world forgot that gravity existed; rocks, leaves, branches and all the random junk she had in the car started floating. She attempted to hit the pedal but it was no use as the car took off from the ground.
This time the phenomenon lasted longer and the objects flew higher, she looked above and saw how the rectangles of color were bigger and black in the middle.
The effect ended and luckily the car landed safely on the ground with a few bumps, the woman quickly hit the pedal without worrying about the speed limit. She didn't dare to look up and she held her cat close in case it happened again.
A few minutes passed and she actually managed to drive to the outskirts of the city, she took a moment to catch her breath and steady her pulse. She parked her car and looked up; the lights had shifted since the last time she saw them, now instead of covering the majority of the sky and being a wide array of colors they were in concentrated spots that looked to be getting smaller and smaller as she looked at them. In fact there were far less than she remembered and the lights of the city made it harder to see them.
"Am I going crazy? I know I used to party hard when I was younger… well I still party nowadays, but I never thought…"
Lost in her thoughts she continued to drive towards the city without looking up out of fear when suddenly something crashed into her car's hood with enough strength to crack her windows. She hit the brakes so fast that her tires screeched and she temporarily lost control of the vehicle.
"What? The heck was that?" She got out and grabbed a shovel from the trunk of her car, she didn't know what exactly was there but she felt it was better to not come unarmed.
She looked around and saw that whatever hit her car was alive and moving. She got a closer look and she saw it was a teenaged girl wearing some costume.
"Oh fuck I hope I didn't kill her, her parents will sue me for sure! Wait a minute… I didn't see her in the road"
She looked up and saw how there were way less colorful lights than before, in fact she saw one extinguish after dropping an object far away.
"So that means, they work like portals" She thought " and she came from up there?"
The girl on the ground stirred and she realized that she was bleeding. Deciding to act first and question later she scooped the girl carefully and took her to the car.
"N-no" Said the girl weakly "Don't take me"
"Shh it's okay" she said in a reassuring voice "I'm not gonna hurt you"
She managed to put her in the car and stabilize her, while checking her wounds she was able to determine that the girl would survive a ride.
"Ok get cozy over here and I will carry you over a hospital"
"N-no hospitals" the girl argued.
The woman was about to complain when she saw something; the girl's head had been covered by a hood but now that she shifted she could see that he had pointy ears hidden in her long hair.
"What is she? Some kinda elf?" She couldn't resist and touched her ears, they were quite real "it doesn't matter, I need to treat her wounds"
"Alright kid you win, no hospitals I'm gonna take you to my home"
The girl gave her a weak smile "Thank you".
With a huff the woman started the car and drove towards the city.
:Near the suburbs of Gravesfield/ Julne 24th 10:00 PM:
A tall figure dressed in a black suit was standing on a rooftop holding a glass of wine in his hand, he looked quite bored and was just looking at the cars that passed beneath him. In a nearby table a stack of important looking papers and files were being blown by the wind a bit but the man seemed to pay them no mind.
"Mission accomplished sir" A voice suddenly talked. He looked behind to see a younger man dressed in a similar fashion.
"Ah Lawrence, I assume that the illusion barrier worked?" He asked while taking a sip from his wine.
"Yes sir no one from inside the town saw anything" The younger man approached and grabbed the stack of papers before they were fully blown away by the wind.
"That's an interesting way of wording it" he said raising his eyebrow "now what about the people from outside the town? From what I remember from the report the phenomenon covered a vast area"
"The… people of HQ miscalculated the effectiveness of the illusion barrier in large areas sir" Lawrence answered nervously " it was enough to cover the city but that's about it, so it was decided to leave the outskirts of the town exposed"
"Who made that decision?"
"Jacob s-sir" Lawrance replied with a nervous stutter.
The older man grunted and left his glass of wine on a nearby table. He ran his hand through his grey hair and gave an exasperated sigh.
"The mission is far from accomplished then" the man said with a frown "tell me, what's the situation?"
"We are still looking into it but so far we've determined it was mostly an empty area: no registered social gatherings, no hotels, no events, no cabins, no homes. It's just a few miles of forest, mountains and roads"
"Still we cannot lower our guard, with that wide range there has to be someone who saw something"
"We will keep looking sir but shouldn't we be helping the enforcing units? That was a large number of breaches that brought to our world a big amount of actives"
"I know that the usual protocol for our unit is to help the enforcing and containing teams but so far this isn't an omega code" when he saw that Lawrence was about to protest he raised his hand "I know it looks like it but trust me kid, this is nothing compared to an actual apocalipsis and it's our job to keep it that way"
"I understand sir but with all due respect if someone did see something in the woods they are going to be treated like a maniac or a drunkard at best. No one will bother listening to them!"
At that the other man actually laughed and clapped Lawrence's back.
"Oh ho ho, son! never underestimate the word of the crazy people, after all that's how this organization came to be! whispers of a conspiracy theorist can be really powerful if they are backed up by evidence"
"But there's no evidence! Phones and cameras don't work properly with magic, a rift like that can't be recorded"
"What about the gravity spikes? Those are fairly common with a rift as large as these"
"We are still investigating how bad it was, if it caused major damage we will just say it was a landslide. They are pretty common in this area"
"Perfect, well I still want Jacob here to ask him some questions. I know that you think he made the best possible choice but we have a chain of command for a reason. Now go back and send the research team ok?"
"Yes sir"
With that Lawrence left him and the man resumed his wine while he contemplated the night sky.
"What in the world are you doing on your side, Belos?"
:The Owl House/ July 25th 11:00 AM:
-Luz-
Luz woke up with a throbbing headache and feeling as if she just ran a marathon, once she tried to shift her ribs caused her incredible pain and she discovered that even moving her arms seemed to cost her a lot of energy. Slowly she addressed her situation: She was on a large bed with bandages covering her chest and forehead, her face and arms had band aids, and someone put a glass with water in a nearby counter.
Luz looked around and saw that she was in a cozy wooden room filled with cardboard boxes and a small table, not at all what she was expecting. She tried to remember how she got here because she was sure that this didn't look like the B.A.T.s headquarters but at the same time it didn't feel as if she was in a prison.
"Ahh my head, how did I get here?"
A sudden noise caught her attention and she saw how the doorknob turned, fear kicked in and she tried to get out of bed and hide, keyword: tried.
"Dwaahh" Luz yelped once she attempted to leave the bed only to get tangled in the sheets and trip into the ground "ouch…"
"Hey careful there, I didn't spend all that time bandaging only for you to reopen your wounds"
Luz looked up expecting a guard or a coven member, but instead she saw an older woman with a red dress holding a tray with food.
"Uhhh, sorry?" Luz wasn't sure what to say. The woman just sighed and left the tray on the table, she then came closer and helped Luz back into the bed.
"Tha-thank you"
"No problem kid but you gotta be more careful, it was a nasty fall and if I wasn't there you could have bleed to death"
"A fall?" She got injured because she fell? Why didn't she summon her palisman to fly?
"Yes now let me see your wounds I need to check them"
Luz was too astonished to answer so she just started raising her shirt when she realized something: these weren't her clothes. Her usual attire consisting of a cape, vest and shirt was gone and in it's place she was wearing a white and purple striped t-shirt and a green lumberjack shirt.
"Whoa where are my clothes?" She didn't care much about clothing but her cape was special, it was one of the last things her mother left her.
"Relax kid it's over there" the woman pointed to a corner in the room where Luz attire was folded "I had to take it off in order to bandage you"
"You… saw me undressed?" Luz just realized that the pants that she was wearing weren't hers either.
The woman grunted and looked at her weird, as if Luz just offered her some slitherbeast meat.
"Do I really look like someone who would do that? Don't answer yet" She pointed an accusing finger at Luz "First of all I'm not the kind of freak who would do that to a minor, eugh gross, second I needed to do that in order to save your life so sorry if that makes you uncomfortable"
"Ahh you are right, sorry" She then let the woman inspect her and she declared that Luz was healing alright.
"Go ahead and ask" when Luz just gave her a questioning look she just shrug her shoulders "You have been looking at me weirdly and you don't seem to remember anything from last night so I assume that you have no idea how you got here"
"You are right, miss…"
"Call me Eda" The woman said with a smirk.
"Oh nice to meet you Eda, I'm Luz" the girl continued offering her hand "And you are right I do have questions about what happened"
"I'll try to answer those but I'll warn you I saw some weird shit yesterday" she said getting serious "I have some questions of my own and since I saved your life I will go first"
"Oh sure"
"Okay so" She took a long breath "What was the last thing you remember?"
"I-I don't know, everything's dizzy"
"At least try to remember kid, you are not giving me much to work here" Eda just gave her an exasperated look.
Luz pushed herself trying to remember what was the last thing she did. She was pretty sure that it was a mission for Raine…
"Turn it off!"
"I don't know how!"
A screeching sound so loud that it left her ears ringing.
"Get her!"
A flashing light, a stream of colors.
"We have to get out of here!"
"Door's locked!"
A sharp pain on her side.
"Let me go!"
The ground rumbling, the objects floating.
"WE NEED TO GET OU-"
A sensation of weightlessness like she never felt before.
Screams. Pain. Wind. Light. Colors.
Then nothing.
"WAIT THE STAFF" Luz got up so quickly that her head started spinning in circles "whoa not a good idea"
"Yeah no shit kid you are going to need to stay quiet for a while"
"Yes but… but now I remember!" Luz said excitedly "I was on a mission for…"
"Ok slow down Luz it's still my turn for questions and I have a lot. I've been avoiding it but I really need to know" she then inched closer to Luz with a serious look "What the fuck were those lights and how come you fell from the sky? More importantly, where are you from?
"Lights in the sky?"
After she calmed down Eda sat and she explained while Luz tried to absorb everything in. Judging from her last memories the plane shifting staff really worked but on a bigger scale than she expected, if what Eda told her was true then the entire room full of relics and petrified people got transported to here… wherever here was. Once she realized this she started firing a barrage of questions to the other woman who was looking more overwhelmed each second.
"...How big were the portals and what do you mean by car and did you saw other people falling down and-"
"Wow Luz wait a second, too many questions, I can't keep up" She was rubbing her temples at this point, trying to focus "Let's just go bit by bit ok?"
"Oh ok sorry, how big were they? the portals?"
"If you mean the big rectangles of light and color they were quite big, it was hard to tell exactly how big because they were far away"
"Ok ok" Luz took a long breath to calm herself "and you say that the lights covered the entire sky?"
"Most of it, it looked like the northern lights decided to tour over here"
"Northern lights? What is she talking about?"
"Did you see someone or something else appear from those portals or was it just me?"
"It was hard to tell because they were so high up, and honestly I was in a panicked state only thinking of getting home. So no I didn't look up much"
"Oh well… that's fair"
"My turn kid, you gotta explain everything, like where do you come from and what caused those strange lights. Normally I wouldn't be so pushy but I believe I deserve it"
Luz was indecisive; on one hand this woman could still be a member of the emperor's coven and just be using her kindness to get information out of her. On the other hand… Eda did save Luz's life and she went through, she was right to demand for answers.
"I… I was on a mission for the B.A.T.s to infiltrate the emperor's coven when-"
"Ok hold up first stop" The woman held a hand in front of Luz's face "What about a bat? and what coven?"
Luz just looked at her in pure disbelief, she didn't know of a place in the isles that didn't know about the emperor's coven! How far away did that staff transport them? Maybe some far away village in the toe that didn't have anything of interest for the emperor?
"What are you talking abo- ugh!" She held a hand to her abdomen as a sharp pain caused her to flinch.
"Wait a second, let me check!"
As the woman looked at her wound Luz noticed something: none of the bandages had the usual glyph spells from the healing coven on it. Although it was a creation from the coven system even wild witches used them nowadays, there was no denying they were far more useful than regular healing spells, so why was this woman not using them?
"Uhmm, miss Eda?" Luz quietly asked once she finished her inspection.
"Blegh just call me Eda, or Owl Lady if you prefer" She added with a wink "Calling me 'miss' makes me feel old"
"Owl wha- nevermind" She shook her head and decided that she was going to ask about that nickname later "I wanted to talk to you about why you didn't use glyphs?"
"Oh I'm sorry miss, was the free healthcare attention I gave you not good enough?" Eda sounded pissed "I could charge you money for that if you like"
"Oh no no no no, I'm sorry Eda! I mean oh wise Owl Lady!" She didn't have much money on her and as a vigilante she barely had enough to survive "I didn't mean to offend you but I was just wondering why you didn't use a healing glyph, it would made this all go way faster"
"A healing gly-, alright kid I've run out of patience, you are going to explain me now about glyphs, covens, the portals, and the emperor you mentioned" She pointed at her with an accusing finger "and what's the deal with your ears, sorry if it's rude but I wanna know about it"
"My… ears?"
It was at this moment that Luz noticed something off about the woman, her ears have been partially hidden in her hair but now that she was paying attention Luz could see they were round.
"Oh my titan! you are a human!"

Phew! well there you go, I will try to keep updating this but I'm on exams week so wait at least two weeks for the next update also I plan on chapters to be shorter than this unless I get inspiration like what happened here.
The gravity spikes in the car scene was inspired from gravity falls, if you watched the show you know which episode.
