Steady swimmer chapter 10
YEAR 3 – That line.
Christmas
Eddie's Barracudas have entered the Princeton Holiday swim tournament for the fourth year in a row. Eddie is team captain, and swimming her preferred breast stroke races.
Her protégé Kaylee Harris has become a force in butterfly races. Eddie is quite proud of Kaylee's and her own accomplishments. She has heard from Abby Jackson at Columbia about this transformation of Kaylee. Eddie secretly hopes for an assistant captain's spot at CU next year. That would be quite a coup! Jamie is supporting her all the way! He has secured a Columbia Law hoodie for himself; and a Columbia Swim hoodie for Eddie. The swim hoodie took some persuasion, but the accomplished debater was up to it!
Jamie has come along for the tournament, staying at the team hotel. Their proximity is dicey! They have stayed well back of the line, so far. They know better than to test themselves while the tournament is in full swing; Eddie must pour all her personal resources into her swims and her captaincy. Afterwards?
The tournament ends at 16:00 on a Saturday. The team is supplied with sack lunches for the bus, which leaves at 18:00. Eddie elects to stay 1 more night and ride back to NYC with Jamie after Sunday brunch.
Mistake? Nah!

After a leisurely dinner in the hotel's restaurant, the couple is relaxing in his room. Her room, which she shared with 3 teammates, has been let go. So, she needs a place to sleep, right? Well, luckily Jamie is accommodating! Good friends are hard to come by.
They are relaxing on the couch; a movie is playing. Neither are watching it. Lips and hands are busy; tenderly caressing, roaming. They've done this before.
Jamie pulls back a bit, "Eddie?"
"Um . . . why'd you stop?"
"It's getting pretty warm in here, don't you think?"
"No, I'm comfy." She whispers.
"I'm comfy too. But-
She shushes him with her lips. Then whispers, "I'm ready, Jamie."
"Ed, we haven't talked about this, yet."
"What's to talk? I'm ready, aren't you? I love you!"
"I love you too, so much. But, like I said, I'm not ready."
"Geez . . . like I said, I AM READY"
"Oh."
Drop the curtain.
