It was the day Knuckles's life changed forever.

Over the years, a guardian of the Master Emerald had seen Many Adventures. Happy memories and sad ones, good times and bad. But through it all, he was certain of what his mission was and why he was here. He knew he was the last echidna, only survivor of the knuckles Clan, and guardian of the Master Emerald. The entire Legacy of his people rested on his shoulders, and he was the sole heir of a once magnificent and Powerful civilization. The burden of such a great responsibility weighed heavily on his shoulders, and it had taken him years to come to terms with the Duty to which he had been born to. So the events that were about to unfold, would rock his sense of identity and self to its very core. The idea that he was not the last is something knuckles had had to confront before, but there was always some excuse he could tell himself to dismiss the idea; grandfather Athair was either a spirit or a revenant. Tikal was a ghost, while Dr Zachary had mutated so far from being a normal echidna, that he couldn't be considered to be the same species as knuckles. The guardian Justified his idea of being the last of his kind, but that belief would soon be shaken to its core.

it all started shortly after the battle against the zeti, when the Deadly Six had been sent back home to the Lost hex. Sonic and All His Friends had managed to win a major victory against Dr eggman, and it seemed the mad scientist had been defeated for good. Not long after, a group of Islanders calling themselves the Marauders, began to attack towns and cities all over the world. After a brief vacation, Sonic gathered up all of his former teammates, and set out to defeat these mysterious Marauders. Knuckles himself was taken captive, when the Invaders tried to take the Master Emerald. Sonic and his other friends came to the Guardians rescue, but in the course of the battle Knuckles learned the horrifying truth. The Marauders, it turns out, we're actually agents of the nocturnus clan.

They were a long lost tribe of echidnas, who had been at War with the knuckles Clan many thousands of years ago. The nocturnus had fought with technology, such as the Mighty gizord Robots they had invented, while the knuckles Clan fought with magic and the power of the chaos energy. In the end, the knuckles Clan we're wiped out after their chief made him mad attempt to take the chaos emeralds for himself. While the nocturnus, weekend from their constant battles with the echidnas of Angel Island, we're banished to the Twilight cage for their misdeeds. But now their leader, an echidna named imperator IX had found a way to open a portal back to Earth. He now sought to take the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald, and use their power to conquer the Earth. Shade, who had been helping her emperor under the premise that they were merely trying to find a way home, turned on her own people, and joined Sonic and his team.

bested by the Blue Hero and his friends, the imperator retreated back into the Twilight cage. Sonic and his friends, including shade and Knuckles, went in to the prison dimension to stop the nocturnus clan scheme. Forging an alliance between all the races that had been imprisoned in the Twilight cage, Sonic and his team launched an epic invasion on the nocturnus Clans home Fortress. During this time, Knuckles was forced to come to grips with the fact that others of his kind still lived. During these battles, he grew closer to the Echidna known as shade and they bonded over a sense of Devotion to duty to their people. The guardian of the Master Emerald began to contemplate if perhaps there might be a way to restart the knuckles Clan, and his thoughts on this matter began to focus on the beautiful young echidna Warrior, shade.

in the end, Sonic, his friends, and their new allies within the cage managed to win a victory over the imperator and his Marauder troops. But as Sonic and his friends sought to return to the Earth dimension, the portal leading to the Twilight cage collapsed behind them, seemingly destroying the cage and all of the inhabitants within it. Shade had no time to mourn what seemed the loss of her people, as Sonic and his friends return to a world where the Eggman Empire had managed to take over everything. Before any of them had time to react the ship they were on was shot down, and Sonic found himself abducted by a mysterious being named infinite, who worked for Eggman. The rest of the heroes were forced to scatter for the moment, as eggman's forces were too strong to overcome. Everything changed for the guardian of the Master Emerald that day, as he and the other Heroes were forced to become leaders of a resistance in Sonic's absence. It was believed at the time that infinite had killed Sonic, and Knuckles was forced to take over leadership of the worldwide Rebellion against Dr eggman's Army. With shade agreeing to stay on Angel Island and guard the emerald, the last of the knuckles Clan bravely took charge of the worldwide attempt to free the planet from the clutches of Dr Robotnik. For several long months, Knuckles tried to to be inspiring Commander a world resisting a tyrant needed. But as Brave and a strong as the Echidna Warrior was, leading forces into battle was not his greatest strength therefore organization and strategy fell under the command of Amy Rose, while Sonic's Brave buddy tails disappeared. Knuckles began to wonder if Tails was two traumatized to be involved with the fight himself. But the young two-tailed fox would soon manage to surprise the resistance, including the Echidna who provided the resources for it.

in the end, the resistance discovered that Sonic was being held on the death egg. After being freed, both the young hero and an even younger version of himself from the past team forces to take down the mad scientist once and for all. Finally after many long and fierce battles, Sonic defeated Eggman, and succeed in destroying the Phantom ruby. As the world sought to heal and rebuild, the resistance turned into the restoration and Knuckles stepped down. Returning home to Angel Island to guard the emerald, he tried to make things work with shade, before the two decided that they got along like oil and water. The female echidna Warrior then Departed Angel Island, seeking out more of their kind she had heard were living in the forbidden zone. This is the way things stand now, though there are rumors of Adventures in the Starfall Islands ahead. No matter what happens next, the Brave the kidney Warrior who's the guardian of the Master Emerald will be ready to face any challenge no matter how dangerous or challenging the situation may be.
