The story takes place directly after Dawn of the Dragon in an alternate timeline where Spyro and Cynder survived. As the title suggests, Spyro and Cynder are crowned as rulers of Warfang. The idea is that since Spyro is the purple dragon and he's done so much for everyone, he would be rewarded with two things: the throne of Warfang and Cynder as his wife, since they are technically a couple. And since purple is said to signify royalty, it only made sense. So, without further ado, here is The Legend of Spyro: Coronation.
Chapter 1
"Spyro, it's time for you to wake." The voice of Ignitus echoed in Spyro's head as he lay on the ground unconscious and too weak to move. But somehow, he found the strength to do so. Opening his eyes, he found himself in the middle of a forest with the sound of running water nearby. It was nighttime, pitch black as well, but he could barely make out the outline of his black-scaled companion, Cynder, who lay on her stomach, her breathing labored from how exhausted she must have been. Spyro groaned in pain, his voice hoarse.
"Cynder? Are you ok?" Cynder didn't respond, "Figures. I'm exaughsted myself. Ugh. Ancestors. I'm surprised I can even open my eyes, let alone speak." Cynder groaned as she awoke from her unconscious state. "Spyro?" Spyro crawled toward her before embracing her in a hug with his left foreleg. "It's me, Cynder. You're not alone." Cynder sighed in relief and grasped his claw with hers. "Thank the ancestors." Spyro continued comforting her throughout the night, all while replaying the battle with Malefor in his head. The earth golem, the destroyer, Ignitus' sacrifice, Malefor's defeat, and what Cynder had said just before he used Dragon Time. "I love you."
Even though Cynder didn't say anything else, he could tell she meant it. From the gentleness of how she held his claws in her own. To how relaxed her breathing had become when he started comforting her. And how her tail wrapped around his. He didn't mind it even one bit. All he wanted to do was stay there with her until the sun came up. "Hey. Spyro?" Her voice was starting to become normal again, much like his own. "What is it, Cynder?" He could feel her heart begin to pick up its pace. "Back in the core. What I said. Do you? Feel the same?" Spyro paused for a second. "I don't know what to feel. It just happened so suddenly."
Cynder turned her head to look at him, her emerald eyes almost shimmering in what little light there was. Her expression was almost sad. Spyro's heart picked up its pace as her irises came into view. "I do love her." Cynder put her head back to the ground, leaving the purple dragon stating into the distance. A few minutes of silence passed by with Spyro working up the courage to actually tell her all while the sky and their surroundings grew gradually brighter. Eventually Spyro opened his mouth and spoke. "Cynder I-." Spyro was cut off by the sound of two very familiar voices.
"Hunter and Sparx, Hey! Over here!" Spyro removed his claws from Cynder's grip as they both forced themselves to their feet. It was difficult but they eventually managed to gather enough strength to stand. Just as they did the glow of Sparx came into view with Hunter just ahead of him with his hood on. "Spyro! You're alive!" Sparx spoke with tears forming in his eyes as he hugged Spyro's leg. Hunter walked up and knelt down in front of them, a look of relief on his face. "I'm glad to see you are both alive. How are you both feeling?" Cynder spoke first. "We can barely stand but at least the spinning in my head is gone." "That's good to hear."
Hunters expression barely changed as he spoke but Spyro could tell he wanted to cry with tears of joy at the sight of his friends alive and well. Sparx sniffled. "Thank you Cynder. Thank you for keeping your promise to look after him." Cynder smiled and chuckled. "Your welcome Sparx." Spyro cocked his brow. "Hey. I hate to ruin the moment but how long have we been gone for? It doesn't feel like much has changed.
Hunter took his hood off, "You were only gone for two weeks, but in that time many have begun to think you both dead. Sparx and I never lost hope, however." Sparx cleared his throat and wiped the tears from his face before flying up to just below Hunter's ears. "We've been looking for you both ever since." "Can either of you walk?" Spyro took a single limping step before collapsing in a heap on the ground. "I can barely even stand."
Without warning, Hunter bolted in the direction of the nearby river. "Stay with them until I get back!" "Oh yeah, sure! Just leave me and our friends alone in the dark with nothing to defend ourselves! Real funny, Hunter!" Spyro huffed in annoyance. "Sparx, please shut up." In just a few minutes, the sun was just barely starting to peek out from behind the horizon, and Cynder's legs finally gave out, causing her to fall facing Spyro. "Woe. Get a room you two." Spyro rolled his eyes at the dragonfly.
Cynder kept her eyes closed, not being able to look Spyro in the eyes, and he couldn't blame her. Neither of them could properly move or fully keep themselves awake. After a few minutes, Hunter came running back with two small objects about the size of his feet. Spirit gems. "Here. Take ahold of these. They should restore at least a small bit of your strength." Without protest, both of them took ahold of the crystals in their claws, feeling the energy within begin to surge into them.
In mere moments Spyro felt himself being able to hold himself up and stood, Cynder did the same but her head was hung lower than usual. "You ok Cynder?" She simply nodded in response to the question.
As they started walking, Spyro immediately looked over at Cynder with concern. "Hey. Cynder." "Yes?" Her voice was riddled with sadness. Not enough to be very noticeable but it was undoubtedly there. "Thank you." Cynders head raised ever so slightly. "For what?" Spyro smiled. "For letting me know. I really appreciate it." Cynder smiled in turn and leaned her head in, kissing his cheek. Spyro went wide eyed and felt a wave of heat wash over his face.
"Um? Uh?" Cynder chuckled and ran on ahead, the look of satisfaction smeared across her face. Meanwhile Spyro had stopped dead in his tracks a few yards behind them, his heart pounding like crazy and his mind racing with a million thoughts and questions. "Spyro! You're starting to fall behind there buddy!" Sparx's voice broke him from his trance and calmed him down enough to keep going.
Spyro galloped forward a few yards behind Hunter, who was looking back at him curiously. "Everything alright Spyro?" Spyro cleared his throat. "Um, yeah. I'm fine. I'm just thinking about everything that's happened. By the way, where are we?" "See for yourself." Looking ahead at what Hunter was referring to, Spyro saw the forests of Avalar and in the middle of it all was a now bustling Cheetah village.
"We've been busy since your second disappearance, Spyro. I'm sure Meadow will be interested in knowing you're alive and well." Spyro and Cynder's ears perked up at the mention of the name. "How is he doing?" "His wounds are healing. But he still requires a walking staff for support. When you disappeared, Meadow and I were the only ones in the tribe who believed we should search for you. Believed there was even a small chance that you survived." Sparx interrupted. "Ehem. Aren't you forgetting someone else?"
"Yes, I know. You wanted to search with us. But I was referring to the members of my tribe. Regardless. Sparx has been a very big help in locating you." "Uhhu. That's right. I'm a big help too." Just then, Spyro's eyes caught a glimpse of something moving in the valley. It was a bit larger than Spyro and Cynder and grey in coloration with what looked to be red eyes. "Groblins." Hunter drew an arrow and strung it, running down the hill with Spyro and Cynder on his tail. "I thought they would have disappeared after we defeated Malefor," said Spyro with both confusion and concern in his voice. "We thought so too. But it appears that the dark magic Malefor used has lingered. Sparx. Fly over to the village and warn them." "Hey I'm no fighter. What am I supposed to-?"
Sparx was cut off by Cynder growling at him and staring daggers at him. "Right," he said as he flew off to warn the village. As Spyro, Cynder, and Hunter made their way through the forest, they ducked under branches and jumped over logs until they came face to face with a small group of Groblins running toward the village. Hunter drew his arrow back and loosed it, hitting the closest Groblin in the chest, causing it to fall over dead and disappear in a puff of dark purple mist, leaving behind several spirit gems that began flying toward Spyro and Cynder.
As soon as the gems made contact, both dragons felt more of their strength returning. Spyro lowered himself before charging and jumping at the Groblins. Cynder did the same and took flight before divebombing the creatures, sinking her claws into their hides. Spyro ran around them continuing to pick up speed before charging, sending two Groblins flying into a tree.
Off in the distance they heard the tribe shout, "AVALAR", before charging up the hill to reinforce them. "Hunter! Pull back to the village! We'll handle things from here!" Prowlus and six other warriors were running forward while several archers covered them from above. Without argument, Spyro, Cynder, and Hunter ran to the village where several other Cheetah's were standing at the gate, spears in hand ready to defend the village from the coming enemy force.
"Hunter! Over here!" Meadow was calling for them from across the village. He stood on one leg, still with his left leg in a splint, all while his left arm grasped a wooden staff. "Meadow. It's good to see you, old friend. I trust you are well." Meadow adjusted his grip and stance. "I've been better. I see your instincts were correct. Our friends really are alive. How are you two feeling?" Still too weak to use our abilities, but me and Cynder are otherwise just fine." The cheetah smiled and sighed. "That's a relief. A shame about your abilities, though. That would be extremely helpful in driving off those pesky Groblins. But Prowlus seems content on handling it himself so I guess we can't complain too much." Hunter grunted in agreement. "Quite. Prowlus has always been stubborn but that seems to be to our benefit. After all with the golems still out there we'll need you both at full strength if we are to stand a chance." "Agreed." Everyone turned around to see Prowlus walking through the gate with another Cheetah over his shoulder. "Before I might have scoffed and dismissed what you said. But after seeing them risk their lives to help others without a second thought and having witnessed them take down a golem at Warfang I'm in full agreement." Prowlus let another Cheetah take the injured warrior before walking over to them. "Outside of the guardians the two of you are our best hope of permanently destroying them."
"What did I miss?" Sparx was now flying behind Prowlus, holding a piece of a spirit gem. "We were just about to discuss our next course of action." "Oh. Cool. Well anyway. Here you go Spyro." Sparx flew closer and let go of the gem, causing it to fly toward Spyro and disappear. Just then Cynder chimed in. "Speaking of the guardians. Where's Terrador?" Hunter motioned for them to follow him. "Terrador and the guardians are at Warfang right now planning what to do about the golems that have been showing up. I know your probably both eager to get back out there and help but it's best to not rush things in your weakened states."
After following Hunter for a few minutes, they came to the same cave they'd taken two weeks prior to get to Warfang. "Can we take another route?" Hunter gripped his bow in annoyance. "I told you before. This is the quickest way to Warfang from here. Now move it." Cynder and Spyro both smirked. "Congratulations Sparx. You've officially angered the Cheetah who's always stoic." With that, the group made its way into the tunnel using Sparx's glow for light. What they would find was unknown but one thing was certain: whatever they would face, they would do so together.
That was chapter one of Legend of Spyro: Coronation. I hope you liked it so far, and I'll see you next time. Take care and have a great day.
