Double drabble (because I couldn't leave any of it out)
Set in season 2 after the episode "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things"
Dean knew he wouldn't win any awards for Brother of the Year. As he looked over to his sleeping brother, he couldn't help but feel the heat of shame rise to his haggard face. He remembered how he had been consumed by his thoughts and emotions while leaving the cemetery, how he had made Sam help him fill in the grave and let Sam carry a shovel and close his car door all while holding his broken wrist.
It was much later, as he waited while Sam was getting his arm set and cast that he realized the extent of his brother's injuries and his failure as a big brother. Sam's right wrist was broken and the doctor had mentioned further damage because of delayed treatment. The doctor had even suggested the possibility of surgery if the realignment didn't work out. Sam was showing signs of bruised ribs, probably from his fall when that zombie chick tackled him onto a hidden stone on the ground. Sam's well-being used to be his number one priority, what the hell was he doing?
Dean knew he had to get his priorities back in order as he watched his baby brother finally resting.
