Son Of Palpatine
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Wars, wish I did. Lucasfilm and Disney do. Usual stuff.
Hey Everyone, welcome to this little one-shot idea I had. Basically some scenes in the old, true EU, now Legends lore I feel had to have happened that we never saw.
Anyway, enjoy.
Coruscant, Imperial Palace
Sarcev Quest, one of the Emperor's Hands, walked into the Emperor's throne room, as he had been summoned there. Kneeling before his lord and master, "What are they bidding, my Emperor?"
"Hand Quest, I am dispatching you to Umbara. I need you to check in on Sly Moore. You too are good friends, correct?" Palpatine asked. He noticed their friendship growing over the years since Quest had entered his service as the Chancellor's Hand.
"Yes, my lord," he said, they had become friends in the service of the Chancellor and now Emperor, working on various experiments in the creation of life.
"Good, go and check on her, she disappeared a couple months back. All she told me was that she was returning home to the Ghost Nebula. She did not tell me why though," Palpatine told him.
"I understand, my Lord. I will check on Aide Moore and report back," Quest stood and left the room.
Umbara
Once he had landed on the shadowy world of Umbara, Quest had to track down where Sly was living. He had to show some Imperial credentials to Umbaran officials so that they would help him. He tracked Moore to her domicile in the southern tier.
When the speeder came to a stop, he saw Moore standing on a second floor balcony. "Sly!" he called out to her. She turned her bald head to look at him. She flicked her head to signal to him to come up. He used the Force to jump up to the balcony.
"Hello, Hand Quest. I wondered when Palpatine would send someone to check on me. I am glad he sent you," Sly didn't even look at him, continuing to look out across the shadow world.
"Yeah, he seemed a bit worried about you, considering you didn't tell him why you were returning home," he said. Quest could tell that something was wrong with Sly Moore, she was wearing a thicker and heavier shadowcloak than normal. He reached out with the Force and he could sense that there was a presence inside her. "You're pregnant." Moore gave him the side eye, like it was obvious and didn't need to be pointed out.
"Yes, I am," Sly said, answering the unsaid question.
"Congrats are in order, I suppose," Quest said, unsure what to say.
"Not quite, Quest. For it is more somber than you know," Sly sighed.
"What do you mean?" Quest asked.
"I am due any day now, and I know that I will not live to hold my child in my arms," Sly told him, depressed at that.
"Why?" he asked her.
"Because the child's father is human. Umbarans and Humans are not supposed to be compatible, but through the use of the Dark Side, I succeeded," She leaned on the rail in support.
"May I ask, who is the father?" Quest asked, now interested in what Sly had done.
"Who do you think is the only human I would hold any interest in?" Sly asked him rhetorically.
"Fair enough, did you two…" Quest asked as the thought crossed his mind.
Sly shook her head, "No, if he hadn't had his face messed up, I would have. After the child is born, take it to Palpatine." She told him, who nodded in confirmation.
A Week Later
When Sly Moore arrived at the hospital to deliver her child, she knew in her heart that she would not be walking out of here. SHe had made her peace with that fact. In her eyes, dying to give life to a child that should be impossible was vindication in her eyes.
Hours later
With a loud scream of pain, Sly pushed hard enough to get the child out of her. "It's a boy," the doctor said. "It's a three eyed mutant," they remarked.
"Triclops," Sly named the child, her breath growing short. She turned her head to her friend. "Tell Palpatine, I succeeded," Sly Moore said with her last breath. She collapsed on her birthing bed. Her eyes wide open as she died, monitors beeping as they flat-lined. Doctors rushed to try to revive her, but failed. Sly was dead, and nothing could change that. Quest held the newborn son of the Emperor in his arms in quiet discontent. He had grown close to the woman, as a friend in their service to the Emperor and the Dark Side. A nurse approached him to take the child from him to do some tests on him like normal. Quest allowed it as he needed some time to process this.
It took a few days, but once Quest got the doctor's permission, he took the child from the hospital and brought the child to its father.
Coruscant
Sarcev Quest walked the halls of the Imperial Palace, infant in his arms. Imperials that passed by him, gave him weird looks, but he paid them no mind. The regular servants of the Empire mattered little to one such as him, trained in the dark side by the Emperor himself. Walking into the throne room, he was met by both Palpatine and Vader, one of the rare times that the Dark Lord was on Coruscant.
"My Liege," Quest greeted, as he knelt before the Emperor. It seemed that only the Dark Siders of the Empire had the courtesy of kneeling before the Emperor, the regular humans did not.
"Hand Quest, what is the news from Umbara?" Palpatine asked, as Quest knelt awkwardly.
"Both good and bad, your majesty. If I may rise?" Quest asked. It was not easy with the kid in his robes.
"Rise, Hand Quest," the Emperor commanded, having noticed that Quest was kneeling weird, like he was holding something in the secrecy of his robes. Both Sith Lords had sensed the presence of a fourth being in the room.
The Emperor's Hand rose from the floor and walked around the Emperor's desk. Quest shifted his robes to show the infant he was holding. He placed the infant in Palpatine's arms, who looked at the Emperor's Hand with confusion. "This is your son, my lord." Vader quietly looked at both of them, confused. Palpatine was confused as he held the child.
"My Son? How did…" He trailed off. "Sly Moore's experiments paid off, then," he had immediately put it together. So that answered the question of what she had done with his genetic sample that he gave her to study. "Tell me, out of curiosity, who was the wretch that Sly succeeded with?" Palpatine was thinking of the tale of Trioculus that he remembered that Sly had been behind.
"It was Sly Moore herself that mothered the child," Quest said. A look of confusion crossed Sidious' face, his brow creased in thought. Vader turned to look at his master, confused as well.
Something crossed Palpatine's mind in oddity, "Wait a minute, where is Sly? If this is her child, why was it you that delivered my son to me?" His tone was almost accusatory.
"She is dead, my lord. Died in childbirth. Her last words were to tell you that she succeeded," Sarcev told Palpatine.
"Dead?" Palptine was a bit surprised to hear that. Blast it, now I know how Vader feels about his late wife. Sly had been the closest to being someone that Palpatine could say that he loved.
He looked at his son in his arms, and he knew what Sly had done.
"I know what she did, I know about your experiments in Abiogenesis, but this is proof to me what she was really after."
"What was she after?" Sarcev Quest asked, they had worked together on several projects like this on Byss, but this was still a bit of a mystery to him.
"My own mentor, Darth Plagueis," Vader turned toward Sidious, recalling what he was told at the opera that one night, "had found a way to influence the midi-chlorians to create life. It seems that the genetic sample I gave her when she asked me to allow her to study it was used to impregnate herself. Clever, Sly, as Humans and Umbarans are not compatible normally." Palpatine sighed in thought, seeing what his favorite agent had been up to, though he was confused as to why she had used herself as the test subject.
The innocent child cooed and looked up at his father's deformed face. Perhaps for the first time in years, Palpatine's yellow Sith eyes faded back to their normal blue for a moment, as he held his infant son, comforting the child for a moment. He could sense the Force within him, make sense due to both parents being Force-Sensitive. It was brief as the yellow returned to the man's eyes.
Holding the kid for a moment longer, he handed the child back to Hand Quest, slightly disturbed by the experience. "Give him to the Prophets and have him trained as an Emperor's Eye." Sarcev took the child and did as his Lord had commanded. As the Emperor's Hand left, Palpatine sat in his throne in quiet discontent for multiple reasons. He could sense that Vader was either smug or more full of rage at him. "What are you thinking, my friend?" He asked his apprentice.
"I think that you now know what I felt about Padme's death," the tiny bit of Anakin that is still alive in Vader showing through.
"Close, my friend. I will make the child a spy in my service, trained to peer across the galaxy," Palpatine vowed, always desiring more Dark Adepts in his service, working toward the day that he could replace every major official in the Empire with a Dark Side Adept.
Many Years Later
Kessel
In a rare case of Palpatine being away from Coruscant for any reason other than Sith business, the Galactic Emperor made a trip to the prison colony of Kessel. There he will meet with his son who was a problem for him.
As Palpatine descended the ramp onto the surface of the asteroid world, his son was brought to him in cuffs.
"Father," Triclops greeted him.
"You have disappointed me, Triclops. You could have been my greatest asset, and heir to my Empire. However, you profess pacifism and disarmament, which I can not have in my galaxy when we still have enemies to find and destroy," Palpatine told him, justifying the military buildup.
"Father, please stop this madness, the Empire will crumble under the weight of its own size. You can't sustain it, and I will have no part in your cruelty." Triclops pleaded, he had foreseen it as the Emperor's Eye, and wanted nothing to do with it.
"Very well, my son. Henceforth, you are a traitor to the Empire, and you will be imprisoned here on Kessel for the rest of your days." As the guards dragged Triclops away, Palpatine had one last thing to say to him. "Your mother would be disappointed in you, if she were still alive." Once Triclops was out of sight, Palpatine returned to his shuttle and went back to Coruscant to continue ruling his Empire.
Triclops would be proven right some years later when Palpatine died his first death aboard the second Death Star, and the Rebellion would find and rescue Triclops from Kessel afterward.
Hey, everyone, hope you enjoyed this little tale. I had this idea come to me one day and was like "Yeah, I do wonder what Palpatine thought about this," so I wrote it. I hope you enjoyed this and I hope in the future to do some more one-shots, its how I got my start, all those years ago. Damn, It's been over a decade since I started writing fanfics. Ain't stopping anytime soon.
Anyway, I will see you, my loyal followers, somewhere else.
See you around. Peace.
