Chapter 1: Getting Together

This is a story about the 5 year gap before season two. This is about how Dick and Zatanna got together.

Dick Grayson literally thinks the world hates him. When Zatanna kissed him on New Years, he wanted to talk about what it means, but got sidetracked by a meeting about a few missing hours when Vandal Savage took control of the Justice League, then got blindsided by Joker's escape from Arkham. It has been a week since he saw his team. Right now he's with Batman at the Water Plant at Gotham.

"Joker is planning on poisoning the water supply throughout Gotham with his Joker Venom."

"Then let go."

Both came in quietly as Joker and Harley got ready to set up the venom. Robin pulls out an explosive birdrang, and jumps back as it destroys the venom. Both of the clowns look up to see the Dynamic Duo.

"Why isn't it Batys and Bird Boy!"Joker exclaimed with that insane grin on his face.

"Hey Puddin. Can I take care of Boy Blunder", Haley Quinn, just as insane as the Joker, asked her lover.

"Of course. Just make it hurt."

Quinn ran after Robin, as he jumped down. He dodges all of her mallet hits. He pull out a smoke bomb, as he disappeared in the smoke. Haley felt a kick on her side. Then a punch on the stomach. Then she fell to the ground as she felt pain. The smoke cleared as she slowly stood up. Robin then appeared in front of her, punching her in the face. She fell to the ground, as she lost consciousness. Robin looks up to see Batman cuffing Joker.

The Batcave

January, 14th

12:40 AM

Dick took a quick shower, wearing blue jeans, a navy blue hoodie, and a black sweater. He put on his glasses, running toward the Zeta's tubes. He was about to type in the coordinates to the Cave.

"Dick."

He looked up to see Bruce still in his costume.

"Yeah Bruce?"

"It's midnight. And we need to talk about what happened on New Year's."

"Bruce, I really like her, but do you have a problem with me going out with her?"

"I don't have a problem with co-workers dating. If I did, M'gann and Conner wouldn't be together, and I definitely wouldn't be together with Diana."

"Then what's the problem?"

"You're my son Dick. I don't want you to feel the pain of a broken heart. I also made a promise to Zatara to keep her safe."

"Bruce, I feel like there is a connection toward her. I want this chance to be with her."

"Okay, but there is one thing that is absolutely non-negotiable. Wait three months to tell her about your identity. If you guys make it, you have my blessing to tell her."

"Thank you Bruce."

"You should probably wait in the morning."

"Right. Thank you. Thank you."

Mount Justice

January, 15

10:00 AM

Dick ran inside, passing most of his entire team. Once he reached Zatanna's door, he froze.

I know I should have called, but I thought this would be better face to face. I probably messed this up.

As he raises his hand to knock, the door to reveal Zatanna on the other side. Both look surprised at each other's presence.

"Hi."

"Hi."

There an awkward silence appeared before them.

"Can we talk?"

"Sure", she said, then stepped aside.

Dick scans her room real quick. Zatanna closes her door.

"So about New Year's…"

"I'm so sorry. I just sprung that kiss on you. It's okay if you didn't like the kiss."

"Zee that's not it. I really like that kiss. It was a great kiss. I wanted to talk to you about it, but the Joker broke out of Arkham, and Bats and I had to deal with it."

"You like that kiss?", Zatanna asks, giving him a shy smile.

"Yeah. I really did. I talked with Batman, and I got his blessing to go out with you."

"Go out with you?", Zatanna asks, her smile getting bigger.

"Zatanna Zatar, will you go out with me?"

"Yes."

Dick leans in and places a sweet kiss on her lips.
