Now, I would like to address some things that might not sit right with you considering the canon of the film franchise:

Firstly, speaking to animals.

In Madagascar we see that Alex the lion cannot be heard as speaking by any humans.

However, in my source material, Penguins of Madagascar: The Movie, Skipper clearly speaks to a person who understands.

To justify this, I believe that similar to Narnia where Uncle Andrew refuses to think of Aslan as singing, and tries to censor it in his head, thus being unable to hear the speech of the Narnian animals.

So, essentially, people censor weirdness like animals talking to them if they're not used to it or don't actually believe it happened.
