I feel like in re-reading the old story, the chapters just got worse and worse-
Also, to the anon who's friend was planning on continuing the story, I actually got curious and went looking for their story. I think I found it, and oh goodness it made me blush! I'm okay with them writing it, I'm curious to see where they take the idea! Just please make sure they are giving me credit!

Tohru paced back and forth in the kitchen as she looped the mask handles over her ears and secured the medical mask over her mouth and nose. She couldn't exactly be useful if she got sick too... She had to make a plan. If she ran into this blind, then she was sure to mess something up... Oh but she'd never done this before! And it wasn't like she could rely on Hatori for help right now!

"No, I shouldn't have to do that... These are my friends, I can take care of them!" Tohru told herself. "They've done so much for me already. It's not fair for them if I panic and rely on others too much."

Once the mask was secure, she returned to the kitchen table where the medical textbook she had borrowed from Shigure lay open. "Okay, treating a fever. Plenty of hydration and rest. Well, I suppose I knew that much already," she sighed. "Well, I'll go around and make sure they have some water at least. Maybe some cold compresses will help as well. Mom always used to do that for me when I was sick."

Mom…

Tohru sighed as she hung her head. "Mom…You'd know what to do if you were here, wouldn't you? You always know what to do. You took care of me all by yourself when I was sick, remember? I wish I knew how to be as strong as you…" Staring down at the medical textbook, Tohru felt many things bubbling up in her chest. Worry. Anxiety. Doubt. But above all...determination. "Well...I can't cry about it now, right mom? You're not here anymore to tell me what to do. But, I'm still here. And I have friends to take care of! I'm counting on you to watch over me mom, okay?"

Nodding her head, she quickly began to gather a few things from the kitchen. Let's see...she found a basin, which she filled up with some cold water. Then, she grabbed a few cloths, which she draped over the basin. This would be good for cooling feverish foreheads. She grabbed the medicine from the cabinet and put the bottle in her pocket to carry with her. What else...

Oh! Breakfast, she ought to make them breakfast too, right? If they even had the appetite for it.. No, she'd check on them first and see if they wanted to eat. Taking a breath, Tohru lift the tray and left the kitchen. She would peek in on Yuki first, as she'd had the least amount of time with hm today. Then she would check in on Kyo, and then Shigure. That should be fine...

Standing outside of Yuki's door, she gently tapped it with her foot, as he hands were full. "Yuki?" she called, her voice muffled by her mask. "I'm so sorry to bother you. May I come in?" She received a grunt in response. Well, at least she knew he was awake... "Alright, I'm going to come in then." Another grunt. Mmm..

Tohru hesitated a moment, before using her foot to slide the door open. She hoped he wasn't as bad off as she feared...

Yuki lie awake in his bed, facing the ceiling. But when he heard her enter, he made an effort to prop himself up onto his elbows. "No, please don't push yourself," she advised, closing the gap between them. "You're quite sick.."

"Sick?" he croaked. "What?"

"You didn't look very well when i checked on you, so I took your temperature, remember?" When he shook his head, she smiled softly. "Well, you were half asleep, so I suppose it makes sense. You're running a fever Yuki.. I brought you some things to help you feel better!"

"Oh, thank you," Yuki coughed. "You don't have to go to the trouble."

"Oh I insist!" Tohru said as she knelt next to him. "You've always been there for me when I needed you. So the least I can do is be there for you too in your time of need."

"Well...thank you," he smiled back. "You are far too kind."

"Not at all~" she smiled, placing a gentle hand to his forehead. "That's quite a fever you have Yuki. I insist you stay in bed and rest today, okay? I'll take care of everything today!"

"Well, don't let the cat push you around, he can help you too if you need it," he reminded her. But when he saw her smile fade, he raised an eyebrow. "Tohru?"

"Kyo doesn't feel well either," Tohru sighed, wringing her hands. "Neither does Shigure. It's been a bit of an unfortunate series of events it would seem."

"That's not good..." Yuki frowned. Tohru was independent enough to take care of herself and the house without them, Yuki wasn't so worried about that. But, Tohru could be too kind for her own good. She would insist upon helping them and doing everything for them, even when it became a burden to herself. He didn't want that for her. Despite her protests, he pushed himself up to his elbows. "I know my temperature is raised, but I don't feel so bad. Please, let me help you."

"Oh no no Yuki, you can't do that!" Tohru frowned, gently pushing his shoulder. "You need to focus on resting, not on doing anything other than that!"

"But..."

"No Yuki," she told him, surprisingly serious... "You have to let me take this responsibility for myself. It wouldn't be fair to expect you to get up and help me when you're not feeling well. This isn't the first time I've taken care of you like this. Just because the others can't help doesn't make this any different. You've always been there for me. You, Kyo, and Shigure, all three of you have done so much to support me." Sitting back, she sighed. "Sometimes I worry that I haven't done enough for you all in return. Without you, I'd still be sleeping in a tent in the woods. Or I'd be relying on Arisa and Hana, something I told myself I'd never do. So what kind of friend would I be if I couldn't be there for you three when you need help most?"

Yuki watched her expression, sighing softly. Too tired and ill to fight, he slowly lie himself back down. "Just...please promise me you'll ask for help if everything becomes too much, okay? There's nothing wrong with asking for help."

Seeing how he seemed to be accepting her need to help, she began to smile again. "Yes! I will!" she assured him. "I promise I will! It wouldn't be any good if I got sick too, so I'l make sure not to push myself!"

"Okay, good," Yuki nodded, pulling up his covers a little higher. He ached all over...

As he settled, Tohru dipped the wet cloth in the basin, wrung it out, and gently draped it over his forehead. "Would you like a little medicine? Or maybe some breakfast?"

"No thank you," Yuki sighed. "I'll be alright."

"If you're sure," she nodded. "But, I'm going to leave some medicine here for you, just in case you want it later!" she smiled, setting two pills next to his pillow. "Shout if you need me, okay?" she advised.

He was asleep before she could even get to the door...

She wanted to peek in on Kyo next, just to make sure he had gotten himself settled back into bed and was doing okay. But, when she peeked into his room, he was nowhere to be found... "Kyo?" she frowned, stepping back. Oh no, where could he have gone? She checked the bathroom, but it was empty. She checked the kitchen and the dining room. Empty and empty! Where could he have gone?

"Kyo!" she called, hurrying to the door. He wouldn't have left, would he? He couldn't have! Setting the tray down on the counter, she hurried out the front door, pulling it on over her shoulder as she did, in quite the panic. Where would he have ran off to in his condition?
She didn't go very far however, as only a few steps away from the front door, she heard it. Kyo's coughing...

Tohru whirled around, lookin for the source. But it wasn't coming from in the house. It was coming from...above the house? Tohru took a few steps back, looking up towards the roof. She was able to see his feet from where she stood, but not much more than that. "Kyo! What are you doing up there?" she fret. "Please come down, you should be in bed!"

"Leave me alone," Kyo called back. "I can't relax down there. I wanna just hang out here."

"I really don't think that's a good idea, the roof is probably still wet fro the rain. And it's still chilly out here.." she worried. But Kyo didn't respond. Tohru worried silently at first, not sure what she ought to do. He needed medicine for his fever and his throat... She couldn't just leave him.
After a moment, she hurried back into the house. First, she grabbed the medicine bottles and placed them into her pockets, along with the thermometer, which she managed to squeeze in. Once she had it, she hurried up to the second floor. She didn't much like going up to the roof, it was so high. But, she had a duty to preform, and she wasn't going to let some anxiety get in the way.

Letting herself into Kyo's room, she went to the window, which was already wide open, allowing the cold air inside. Taking a breath, she climbed onto the ledge, and grabbed the edge of the roof. She had done this before, it was just the first time in a little while. With shaky knees, she managed to stand up, her feet on the ledge and her hands on the roof. The roof was so damp, it was hard to get a firm hold on it. 'You can do this Tohru. Kyo needs help...' She told herself as she boost herself up.

Suddenly, a pair of warm hands were holding her arms.. Tohru gasped softly as those hands carefully pulled her up to the roof. "What the hell are you doing?" Kyo frowned.

"T-Thank you for your help," Tohru said nervously, crawling a little further up on the roof to find a drier spot to sit herself down.

"Well I wasn't gonna let you slip and die," Kyo frowned. "Again, what are you doing?"

Tohru took a breath once she was able to sit down, feeling a bit safer. "I have some medicine for you," she said. "It would be better to take it in bed, but since this is where you want to rest, I thought I might bring it to you." Her smile, though anxious, was still bright, which made Kyo sigh.

"You're such a dumbass," he frowned at her as she pulled the medicine bottles from her pocket. "If I take it, will you leave me alone?"

"As long as you promise not to stay out here too long. I know I can't make you go inside right now, especially if this is what's helping you feel comfortable, but it's too cold for you to be out here when you don't feel good," she advised, gently placing a hand on his cheek. "You still have a fever, so being out in the cold won't do you any good."

"Well, so what if it's cold? It was always cold in the winters when Kazuma and I lived in the mountains. But toughing it out made me stronger," Kyo scoffed. "I can handle a little chill like this."

"Even so..." Tohru worried, the smile fading from her face. Geez, he couldn't just let her look so sad..

"..Fine," he relented. "I'll go inside in a little bit, happy?"

"Oh, very!" Tohru said, the smile coming back right away. Unscrewing the lid of the first bottle, she shook a pill into her hand, and then another one from the second bottle. Both of which Kyo accepted, and swallowed dry. "Those should help I hope. Would you let me to get you something to eat? The medicine might settle a little easier in your tummy if you eat.

"Nah, I'm fine," Kyo sighed as he lie back once again. "Honestly, I just really want some rest.."

"Oh, of course!" Tohru nodded. "Well, if you feel like you're going to fall asleep, please get into bed, okay? Don't sleep up here on the roof, it isn't safe."

"Yeah yeah," Kyo sighed, closing his eyes. Tohru gave him a gentle smile, before slowly and carefully climbing down from the roof and back into the window. She rubbed her arms a little to warm herself up, before leaving Kyo's room. She trusted Kyo to do as he said he would!

Now she just had one more family member to check in with!

She'll peek in with Shigure in the next chapter, and then we'll be seeing Hari again~ Thank you for your patience with everything!
