I woke up this morning to Angel having all of his arms wrapped around me. I chuckled when I noticed that he had drool coming out from the side of his mouth. I leaned over and nuzzled my face into his chest fluff and purred as my cheeks grew warm. He stirred a little bit before embracing me with a tight squeeze and kissing me on top of the head. "Husky... it's too early..." he says moaning at me with squinty eyes.
I chuckled and kissed him on the lips, "I know, baby but Charlie said that we were supposed to meet the therapist that'll be working with us during the Rehabilitation program." He lets out a groan before stretching his arms out over his head. "Okay, fine I'm up," he yawned. We got dressed, fed Fat Nuggets, brushed our teeth and then headed downstairs. We get downstairs and walked past the lobby and into the kitchen. By the time we get to the kitchen breakfast is sat out on the counter top waiting for hungry residents to make their selections.
I looked up and saw Charlie grabbing a glass of orange juice. "What's all this about," I asked raising an eyebrow at her. Charlie looked up at me and smiled, "oh, good morning, Husk! Morning, Angel! I just wanted to do something special to welcome our new employees and residents to the hotel so I thought we might throw a brunch."
Angel glanced over at me and then raised an eyebrow up at Charlie, "residents, plural? As in more than one? I thought we were just getting a therapist." Charlie points a finger over to Angel before grabbing a bagel and placing it on her plate, "I'm glad you brought that up. So after a lot of talking and deliberation we came to the conclusion that we would also need a licensed psychiatrist on the team as well."
I looked over to Charlie and crossed my arms, "umm...why?" "I'm glad you asked, Husk! So, in our conference call we were informed that there was a difference between a licensed psychiatrist and a licensed therapist, sometimes also referred to as a counselor, social worker, or psychologist. At any rate, a therapist doesn't have the qualifications necessary to prescribe medication that may be needed to aid in your treatment program. A psychiatrist on the other hand possesses the necessary MD required for this.
So, once we finished our breakfast, we're all going to meet with both of these professionals and they'll give us more information from there." I nodded my head suddenly feeling that nauseous feeling in my stomach rising up into my chest. "Hey, you okay, Husky," Angel said placing a hand on my shoulder. I placed my hand on his, "I'm just— I don't know, a bit overwhelmed I guess. This is a lot of information to process at breakfast time."
Charlie walks over and gives me a hug, "awww it's okay, Husk! It's normal to be nervous but everything is going to be fine. Plus, we're all here to support each other as well." I let out a sigh and returned a hug, "I guess you're right, Charlie." She lets go and walks back over to her plate, "alrighty everyone, let's go ahead and eat! We've got a big day ahead of us!"
A couple minutes after that we all hear the hotel door opening. Charlie sets her plate down at the table and walks over to the lobby. The rest of us follow closely behind her. We see her shaking hands with the both of them. One demon looked like Medusa with the only exception being that her looks didn't turn you into stone unless I suppose, she wanted to.
"Hello everyone! I want you to meet your therapist, Ms. Gracie Earnhardt." She waves a hand over to us and we all waved back at her. Another demon with a wolf body and feathery wings walks up and places an arm around Ms. Earnhardt's waist. "Also this is her partner and your psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Frankenstein-Earnhardt," Charlie says gesturing her hand over to the wolf winged demon. She nods her head, "it's a pleasure to be meeting all of you."
Charlie turns back to face the two new residents, "okay you can lock up your luggage in our storage room and we can help you to get settled in upstairs after we've all had breakfast. They nodded their heads and followed behind her while the rest of us turned around and walked back to the dining table and sat down eating our breakfast. The others soon followed and sat down with us. After breakfast was over, Ms. Earnhardt and Dr. Frankenstein started meeting with each of us individually. The first people they met with was Charlie and Vaggie and each meeting took about an hour so today felt about as productive as watching wall paint dry. After sitting behind the bar for what felt like a fucking century, I finally meet with Ms. Earnhardt.
I opened the door to the room that was now deemed to be her office and shut the door behind me. I sat down in a rather comfortable chair across from her computer desk and she rolled her chair over to me and sat down in it. "Good afternoon, as I'm sure you're aware, my name is Gracie Earnhardt and I'll be playing a crucial role in your over mental health care and wellness." "Umm... hi," I said muttering as I tried to wipe the perspiration off of the palms of my hands across my trousers. She glanced down at her clipboard for a moment before looking up at me, "so I see here that your human name was Daniel Huskerton.
Is there any other name you'd prefer to be called by?" I crossed my arms across my lap, flattened my ears and drooped my wings, "uh... just Husk is okay." She nodded her head and set down her clipboard before returning back to her chair, "so the purpose of our meeting today as well as our one on one meetings over the course of a couple of days will just be to build rapport and to get to know one another a little bit better." I nodded my head quietly. She calmly placed her hands in her lap and continued talking, "so I graduated from Saint Cloud State University when I was alive.
I've been working in the field for a little over 15 years when I was alive and for about 20 years down here in the afterlife. I specialize in addictive personality disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Family and marriage counseling. The reason I'm in Hell is because I refused to believe in the constraints of religious concepts." I nodded my head feeling intrigued by this new information and was gradually starting to feel myself relax a little bit more. "So, Husk, tell me a little bit about yourself.
Again, I'm not looking for you to share anything personal today, but just some basic information about yourself." I leaned back and thought for a minute about what I was going to say, "uh so,... I died in the 1970s and I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. I enjoy gambling, magic shows, and drinking alcohol." She nodded her head and leaned in seemingly interested in what I had to say before smiling, "I find that to be quite interesting, Husk. When I was alive, I myself was quite interested in magic shows too."
I raised an eyebrow and grinned a little, "really?" She nodded her head, "Actually my mother was a magician's assistant so she would always bring me to her shows." Before I know it I'm becoming more relaxed with my ears perked up and facing her with my head and shoulders leaning against the chair and wall, "wow, that's pretty awesome. Which magician did your mom perform with?" She smiled, "Harry Houdini."
My eyes widened and my tail started swaying back and forth, "you're fucking kidding me! Your mom was Houdini's assistant? That's fucking insane!" She laughed, "yeah those were some pretty awesome times, have you been to any of his shows?" My eyes light up like a little kid on Christmas morning, "are you kidding?
He used to have shows all of the time at the casino my parents were always at in Vegas." She smiled, "wow, what a small world." I smiled, "yeah you're telling me." The rest of the hour we sat in her office and talked all about magic shows and magicians.
