Chapter Five

So, I'm kind of just writing as I go. Also, Vic isn't going to be struggling in this story, it was just Crisis One possibly being done that she was upset about. I already have her struggling in one other, possibly two, stories, don't want her hurting in all of them.

Carina stepped closer to Andy. "Andy, eat the orange." Carina practically ordered. "We can talk more later. Andy sighed, grabbed the orange, and peeled it. She stared at it, not wanting to eat. She felt overwhelmed with the two women trying to help her and overwhelmed from knowing she actually did it, she just pissed away her dream job. She felt the coffee she had this morning coming back up and she quickly threw the Orange to Maya and ran to where a garbage can was in the turnout room and just threw up.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Andy was repeating in her head over and over again. Fuck! What the fuck have I done. Andy finished throwing up and then fell to the floor, not being able to hold up her weight. Andy, once again, brought her knees up to under her chin and just buried her head into her knees. She faintly felt someone's hand running up and down her back, helping her to get her breathing back to normal when she felt a water bottle being put in her hand. "Drink" Andy heard someone say. She looked up, head swimming but she took the cap off of the bottle and began to drink some of the water slowly.

She took some time to compose herself before looking up at the couple. When she did, she saw the worry that was clear in their eyes and felt bad. I don't need them worrying about me. Andy thought. She had burdened the station enough with her problems.

"Andy," Carina started but Maya stopped her.

"Andy, you need to finish that water, then eat this orange and depending on how you feel after, you may need to talk to Farris about you going home."

Andy wanted to fight. She wanted to tell Maya she was fine but with her confession of not knowing when she last ate and her throwing up at the thought of food showed them that she wasn't okay. Andy sighed and nodded. Maya gave her half of the orange to start with and once Andy got through that Maya gave her the second half and watched as Andy finished the water. It felt stupid. Needing a babysitter to watch her eat and drink. Her dad would be so ashamed. Andy looked back down.

Maya and Carina looked at each other, talking in hushed tones. "I'll take Andy to a bunk, get her to sleep some maybe and then we'll see how she feels," Maya told Carina and she nodded.

"Let me know if you or she needs any help through the day please?" Carina looked at Andy. "Just seeing her like this…" Maya nodded, Carina didn't need to say anything else, she was also thinking about how sad this was too. "I'll let you know when I get to the hospital and I'll call you in a few hours," Carina told her, kissed her, and left Maya to take care of her best friend.

Maya sighed and looked at Andy. "Andy," Maya called, and she watched as Andy looked up. "Let's get you into a bunk, okay? I'm sure you could use some sleep." Maya saw Andy's mouth open and thought she was going to fight her, but she just nodded instead and followed Maya, just hoping she wouldn't run into anyone on the way.

Just as Andy was hoping that Vic came out of a bunk room, running into her, literally.

"Whoa, sorry Andy," Vic said, grabbing Andy's arm, helping her to not fall over. Andy just looked down, not replying, and walked past Vic and into a bunk room. Vic looked at Maya confused. "What the heck is going on around here?" Vic asked, turning to Maya. "Is she okay?"

Maya smiled sadly and shook her head. "Right now, no. Hoping she will be though."

Vic looked towards the closed door and sighed. "Is there something she's not telling us about why she got demoted?" Vic asked, worry clear in her eyes. As much as Maya wanted to tell someone she knew that if anyone, but Andy told Vic that it would be bad.

Maya shook her head. "I don't know, Hughes. I just know I found her half asleep and brought her up here to make sure she'll actually get some. She's been exhausted since the ball anyway."

Vic just nodded and watched as Maya walked into the same bunk Andy went in. She sighed and walked away, not knowing if she should believe Maya when it felt like there was more going on.

Maya walked into the bunk, closed the door, and then locked it, not wanting anyone to disturb them but she did text Ross and ask her to come, warning her to knock since the door was locked. Ross replied to her message a few minutes later saying she would be there soon, that she needed to wrap something up first. Maya heard knocking on the door five more minutes later and opened the door.

"Maya, what's going on?" Ross asked but then looked over Maya's shoulder and saw Andy, lying on the bed, looking like she was asleep. "She told you the truth, didn't she?" Ross asked sadly. Maya nodded sadly. "I'm trying to figure out how to make room within the budget, Bishop. I really am. I hate this just as much as I'm sure you do." Ross told her and Maya could tell that she was sincere.

Maya looked over her shoulder and down to Andy, who was snoring lightly. She sighed. "She's been waiting seven years Chief Ross," Maya told her and looked from Andy to Ross. "She put Jack's life in front of the captain position shortly after her dad had to retire at the high-rise fire when she disobeyed Chief Ripley's orders." Maya started, "She had to watch her best friend die and then not receive the position again when Sullivan moved up to battalion chief and promoted me because Pruitt talked to him and told him that Andy wasn't ready. Even though she had been more ready than me at the time." Ross looked at Andy over Maya's shoulder and began to feel even worse, especially having not known that Robert would do that. "Chief," Maya said, and Ross looked at her "You need to find a way, please." Maya ran a hand over her hair. "She's had captain taken away from her too many times already. You have to find room in the budget."

Ross sighed. "I know, Maya. I saw how broken she was about this when she came into my office two days ago. She hated it but do you know what she told me when I asked why she was willing to do this?" Maya shrugged so she continued. "She told me that "she's worth it" in reference to Vic. She cares so much about this house and the people in it that she would do anything for any single one of you in this house." Ross told her and Maya looked down.

"She deserves better than this," Maya told her plainly. "Please find a way to make room"

"I'm trying, Maya," Ross told her, tiredly. "Right now, there's only 2% left in the budget and a captain's pay is a hell of a lot more than that."

Maya sighed and the two stood there in silence until they heard a groan come from the bed and the two women turned to face the bed where Andy lay.

"Andy?" Maya asked but frowned when Andy's face scrunched up in pain. "Andy, what's wrong?"

Andy opened her eyes, pain clear in her eyes and gasped in pain.

Ross opened the door and called for help, knowing that this wasn't normal. "Help!" Ross shouted. "I need some help in here!" Ross called and Travis and Ben came in.

"What's going on?" Travis asked as Ben left to grab a med bag.

"We don't know. She was asleep one minute and then groaning out in pain the next" Maya told Travis, kneeling next to the bed, stroking Andy's hair.

Travis nodded. "Can you help me roll her onto her back?" Travis asked Maya and she nodded just as Ben was coming back into the small room, a stretcher behind him.

When they rolled her over Andy let out a scream when she was on her back and alerted the rest of the house that something was wrong. They all came running into the bunk area, wondering what was going on but just watched on helplessly as Maya, Travis and Ben worked on getting a now unconscious Andy onto the stretcher and down to the aid car.

Maya and Ben got Andy into the back while Travis got in the driver's seat.

"Maya, any idea what happened?"

Ben watched as Maya shook her head and tears welled up. "I have no idea. She was just sleeping, woke up and groaned." Maya told him, worried for her best friend. Maya watched as Ben attached the heart monitor sensors to Andy's chest after cutting off her shirt and then turning it on. Maya breathed a sigh of relief when Andy's heart rate was stable but saw that her oxygen was down, so she grabbed an oxygen mask and covered Andy's face with an oxygen mask and then grabbed hold of one of one of Andy's hands.

It had taken them a few minutes to get to Grey-Sloan and when they did, they were met by Schmitt, Amelia and two other nurses that Maya had never seen before.

They rolled Andy into a private ER room and Amelia took the lead. Asking for every test to be done when Maya tells her that she didn't know what happened, just that Andy groaned in pain and then passed out at the station.

Maya got pushed back by nurses and was forced to watch as Andy was poked and prodded. Maya was so wrapped up in watching the doctors and nurses tend to her friend that she didn't realize that Miranda was standing behind her.

"Maya, does Carina know you're here?" Bailey watched Maya shake her head. "Do you want me to call her down?" Maya nodded her head after a brief hesitation and Bailey reached for her phone. Sending a quick text to the OBGYN and waited along with Maya until Carina came.

Carina was talking with Jo when she felt her phone chime. She pulled it out of her lab coat and when she saw the text from Bailey her heart dropped. Herrera was just rushed in, Maya's with her. Thought you should know. The text read.

"Oh, God," Carina said and ran a hand through her head.

"Carina?" Jo asked, a frown on her face, worried about how she watched the blood drain from Carina's face. "What's wrong?"

"My wife's best friend was just brought in." Carina told her, "I got to go. Do you think you'll be fine taking on my patients and any incomings for a little bit?" Carina asked Jo, not wanting to put too much pressure on the younger doctor.

"Yes. I'm sure I'll be okay." Jo reassured her. "I'll page you or text you if there's an emergency but other than that, don't worry, okay? I've gotten pretty good at this job, and we've got some great nurses.

Carina nodded and gave Jo a grateful smile and ran through the hospital hallways to an elevator and made her way down to the ER. While she was in the elevator, she had no clue what she was going to walk into. She was worried about what had happened in the short two-hour span from when she left the station to now. When Carina got to the ER and to the private room, she was told Andy was in she saw her wife outside, head back against the wall, eyes closed, breathing deeply.

"Maya," Carina called, and Maya opened her eyes. "What happened?" Carina asked her, running a hand up and down one of Maya's arms.

"I... I don't even know, Carina." Maya told her, tearing up. "One minute she was asleep and the next she was waking up, groaning in pain.

Carina nodded and just pulled Maya into a hug. "I'm sure she'll be alright, bambina." Carina tried to reassure her.

Maya nodded against Carina's shoulder but didn't say anything.

"Dr. DeLuca, Bishop," The couple heard come from behind them and when they turned around, they saw Amelia. "We're still running tests, but we don't think it's anything serious," Amelia told them, and the pair sighed.

"Thank God," Carina said, and Maya relaxed.

"We're just gonna run some more tests and then we'll hopefully get some answers," Amelia told them and then turned to walk back into the room.

"Wait," Maya called out. "How long until we can see her?" Maya asked, worry oozing out of her for Andy. It seemed like it was just hit after hit for her.

Amelia turned and sighed. "I don't know, Maya. I'm hoping after the tests are done."

"So, in an hour or two?" Carina asked.

Amelia nodded and walked back in. Maya looked at Carina, tears pooling in her eyes and Carina pulled her into a hug. Carina sighed into it, her worry for Andy coming to the surface too. She was scared for her and just hoped this was nothing serious.
