Dean was waiting at the gate as the brown Bronco with reservation plates pulled up. He smiled at the Chief who got out of the driver's seat. "You made good time."
"Well, I couldn't believe it when Sam called and invited us over here for some fun." He hugged Dean tight as the others got out of the bronco. "I got 4 of my best archers. What is the plan?"
"Get everything together and follow me into the trees. Sam is already setting up the altar we need to distract Erra as you and yours take on the warriors of death and destruction." Dean looked over to see the others were standing around listening. "Ok, let's go see how far along he is." They started walking as Dean said, "Chief, we want you and the archers to take the lead on the killshots. Sam and I will work on chants and keeping the god away from you while you take out the … what did you call them?"
"Sky warriors."
Dean smirked. "I like that name." Chief puffed out his chest with pride as his son just shook his head. "Oh come on, Dragon. We have to let them think they are special every once in a while."
"I mean I guess but come on, Dean. You've known him almost as long as I have. His head doesn't need to be any bigger." Everyone in the group started laughing as the Chief just gave them the evil eye. "Ok Dad! I'll stop."
"Anyway, Sam and I will be your backups. We have our own arrows but we won't try to take any of them out unless one of you yells that you need help." As they broke the tree line, they could see Sam setting up the final things on the altar.
"Dragon! How did I know you would be one of the best archers in the whole tribe?"
"Because I could out shoot you with my eyes closed." She smiled at Sam as the Chief and Dean just looked at each other and rolled their eyes.
"Ok Sam, tell us what all of this is and where we need to have the archers stationed."
Sam cleared his throat as he looked back at the altar. "Ok so I have a mixture of wormwood and ancient graveyard dirt in the bowl. Once the eclipse starts I'll start to add the nasty mixture of rotten goat meat, decaying quince, and powdered human liver. The smell will knock some people out so we have special masks for people to wear if you want to avoid the smell."
The Chief raised his hand to stop anyone from asking for one. "Our lore says if you can kill one of the sky warriors and press through the smell, you will become one of the most powerful warriors on land. I will not allow any of you to take a mask. We are a proud people and we want to become the best there is on land."
Dragon grabbed one of the masks from Sam and started to put it on. "Dad, I normally would not buck your statements but I can already smell it and I want to vomit. I need to be clear headed so I can aim and not let these demons kill anyone…especially you. I don't want to answer to Mom if you don't make it home tonight." Dean stifled a laugh as the Chief looked defeated. She looked at the mask as the rest of the archers just shook their heads as Sam offered them. "Sam, are you and Dean wearing masks during all of this?"
"No, we have to chant the exorcism prayer while you are shooting them so we'll be choking the words out as we swallow back the gags." Dragon made a face as she slipped the mask over her face. "Now based on the research I've done on Erra and the release of his minions, we're looking at him releasing seven. Each one of them will be carrying a form of sickness." Everyone looked at him as he continued. "The plague, a virus, or something like those that will kill you and anyone else they touch so we need to take the killshot."
One of the archers nodded as he asked. "What does the lore say is the best place for us to aim for that killshot?"
Dean watched as the rest of the archers nodded in agreement. "Killshot is a headshot. I would aim between the eyes or if you're really confident, aim for the eye and pray to go clean through. Now I think we need each one of you stationed in a circle in this clearing with the altar near the treeline. I believe that will keep Erra out of your way best." The Chief glanced around and started pointing at each of the archers and motioning for each to take up a station. Dean glanced at his watch. "We've got 10 minutes until totality. Everyone get to your positions and put on THESE glasses." Dean started handing out special eclipse glasses. "The lenses are rated to protect your eyes from looking at the eclipse but they have a coating so that we can see the warriors as soon as they appear." He watched as everyone put them on before he put his pair on. "Ok we're ready. Now we wait."
