They could overheard the crowd counting down for totality. "I'm glad they are being so loud." The Chief looked a little peeved at the noise they were making but knew it was better for them to be loud than not once the warriors and Erra showed up. "Two more seconds…Arrows at the ready! Eyes to the sky!" As they watched the sky, the moon completely covered the sun, throwing them into darkness. Sam poured the rotten mixture into the bowl as the sky above them split into two. "EYES TO THE SKY, MY CHILDREN! WE'RE HERE TO SAVE THE WORLD!"
As the first arrow left Dragon's bow, Dean started to chant as Sam mixed the rotten mixture with the wormwood. The smell was more horrible than Dean could have imagined. He choked back the gags as he and Sam spoke the words from the ancient table of Erra.
O king of all inhabited lands, creator of the world,O Hendursagga, first born of Enlil Holder of the sublime scepter, herdsman of the black-headed folk, shepherd of mankind, O Ishum, zealous slaughterer, whose hands are suited to brandish fierce weapons, And to make his sharp spear flash, Erra, warrior of the gods, was restless in his dwelling, His heart urged him to do battle with deadly venom smeared all over himself to smell like the lowly creatures he was going to war with!
They heard the screams of pain as the first warrior crashed to the ground with the arrow sticking out of its eye. Dean threw a fire bomb at it, laced with the ashes of a holy man and holy oil. He knew that the head shot that Dragon had taken would kill the warrior but he just wanted to make sure plague and death weren't going to spread across the globe on his watch. The Chief took aim at the next warrior as Sam continued with the next part of the chant.
O Engidudu, who patrols at night, ever guiding the noble, Who ever guides young men and women in safety, making light as day, The Seven, warriors unrivaled, their divine nature is different, Their origins are strange, they are terrifying, Whoever sees them is numbed with fear. Their breath of life is death, People are too frightened to approach it! Yet Ishum is the door, bolted before them.
Dean tossed another fire bomb as the second warrior hit the ground completely lifeless. He nodded at the Chief who just smirked with pride. They watched as the third and fourth warriors joined the first two in the fire pit. Sam cleared his throat as he and Dean continued the chant looking for Erra to show his face.
We call on Erra. We call on the Seven as the daytime goes dark. The Seven was given to Erra to command, to rain down death and hellfire, to destroy what is noisome to you, to cause destruction to the world that Anu has created and loved so dearly.
Sam looked up as warrior five hit the ground, both of its eyes with arrows sticking out of them. "SAM!" He heard Dean scream before he saw Erra standing before them on top of the altar, so angry he was glowing hot white.
"What are you doing to my army? We're GODS, you pitiful insects!" Erra grabbed Sam by the throat as Dragon took out warrior number six. She screamed, taking Erra's attention off of Sam for a moment. She aimed her last arrow at the god as the archer next to her took out the last warrior. She released the shot as Dean swung his own arrow at the god's eye. His arrow made contact as hers hit the god in the neck. Erra let out a painful cry as Sam used his weight to throw him into the fire raging in the center of the clearing.
"Sammy, you ok?" Dean looked over at his brother who had scratches around his neck.
"It doesn't look like he tore the skin but we can treat it once we get to the reservation." Everyone glanced up to see the moon had moved ever so slightly exposing a sliver of the sun. "Eclipse is over. Let's clean up and go with the cover story. We found bombs and had to blow them up. We took samples from the ones that were duds and had to burn the rest of them to make sure no one would be harmed by the chemicals they were wanting to use to infect all in attendance." Everyone nodded as they collected the couple of arrows that didn't hit warriors. Sam grabbed the bowl with the rotten mixture in it and threw it into the fire as Dean grabbed the other items on the altar and started for the car.
