Chapter 1
Looking Up
The force is a pull and push of forces that many can master but will always crush anyone with merciless despair as much as it can bless someone with auspicious events. And no one understands this more than the Jedi and Sith.
Four thousand years before the rise of the Galactic Empire, the Republic forces battle against the Forces of the Sit h. The enemy forces are lead by the malicious Darth Malak, the only living student of the late Darth Lorde Revan. With an iron fist, and an invincible Sith armada, he set his sights on conquering the galaxy.
The Jedi Order has also fallen prey to Malak's mad conquest. His legion has scattered the order like dust to the wind. Many brave Knights of the Order have fallen in battle and some have even fallen to the temptation of the Darkside, swearing loyalty to the current Sith Master.
However, as this battle leans to the advantage of the Sith, those who still wish to fight them have not vanished. The Republic fights endlessly with the Jedi so that the scales may be tipped in their favor. This is the story of those who helped to tip those scales and end this way.
So, in a galaxy far far away, the planet Taris would be one of the stepping stones for a change in this war. Above its cities and stratosphere, a Republic ship was a mission from the Jedi Order. Here is where the force would come to work and crush and bless those stars so that their destiny is fulfilled.
Javayar's Catina
In the dark, gritty, dirty and dangerous lower city of Taris, in one of the more popular bars was a few of the small heroes who would help decide the fate of the galactic war. In Javayar's Cantina were many patrons; rouges, mercenaries, bounty hunters. At a table with plates upon plates of food and a hungry Wookie and a shorter blue teenage Twi'lek girl who wore a gray jacket with black and gray leggings. She was eating scraps compared to the Wookie, watching him eat like a starving Gamorrean.
*CHOMP* *CHOMP* *CHOMP* *SLOBBER* The Wookie shoveled food and drink into his maw like no tomorrow. Meanwhile his Twi'lek friend was watching in disgust, almost unable to touch her food.
"Geez Big Z, if you keep eating like that your gonna swallow that plate like a Sarlacc eating a desert skiff whole." said the Blue Twi'lek.
Big Z, or Zaalbar wiped his mouth of any food or drink(aside for the food stuck in his fur) and swallowed the large portion in his mouth and spoke in his wookie language.
"I'm hungry Mission,we spent hours at the swoop tracks to was the Beks practice and it made me hungry," said Zaalbar. Mission merely played with her food before seizing the chance to eat.
"Everything makes you hungry Zaalbar; dodging blasters makes you hungry, the transport makes you hungry, the speeders and the slowpokes you hungry," complained Mission. "You even said that a Selkath's whistle made you hungry," She finally stuck a fork into her vegetables and started eating them, they were lukewarm.
"Wookie's have strong stomachs, but we burn energy like forest fires," said Zaalbar in his Wookie language as he patted his stomach.
"Excuses, excuses, you'd eat a blaster if I roasted it and put in it stew." teased Mission. She started eating some more. Zaalbar though
"I've eaten way worse actually, but don't make me seem like some disgusting animal. Wookies aren't animals," said Zaalbar quite offended. Mission sees that Zaalbar has now crossed his arms, looking quite sour about her comment. She puts down her food and sighs.
"*Sigh* Okay I didn't mean it like that, I just meant that you stuff yourself a lot. I'd never think you were some animal," she picks up a fork, "You use a fork, knife and a crossbow, doesn't sound like an animal too me." she then slides her food over to a still-angry Zaalbar, "And your my best friend,"
Zaalbar looked down at the food, most of it was eaten but still good. Then he looked at Mission's peace offering. He then slowly unfolded his arms and began eating it like a civilized Wookie..
"Forgiven," said Zaalbar.
"But seriously, what won't you eat," asked Mission as her dinner started to disappear.
"Tusekn Raider tribe stew." Zaalbar didn't hesitate.
"Wait seriously, why?" Mission asked.
"You can only get it in deserts, and I hate sand." he quickly eats and swallows some more food, "Before I left home, I heard that they put their victims eyeballs in to eat." Mission nearly puked hearing that and seeing in in her mind.
"EWW, Why'd you tell me that, now I can't eat!" said Mission. "Think I'm gonna puke. However as she fights back her puke she notices a few faces sitting across the bar, looking at the Twi'lek dancers. All of them were Nikito dressed in black and red uniforms and a symbol of a cracked moon on over their hearts.
"See, disgusting," said Zaalbar. "And-"
"Shh, Big Z look!" whispered Mission as she gestured toward the other room. "Black Vulkar scum,"
"Mission, remember what Gadon said," Zaalbar said carefully. "We need to be careful."
"Yeah, well they look drunk from here, can't get more careful than that," said Mission. "Be right back" She gets up from the table and quietly makes her way to the other room, avoiding any of the other customers who cam to stare at the Twi'lek dancers. Mission had gotten those looks, especially when she turned 16 and she hated it. Plus the dancers gave her bad she reached one of the Black Vulkars she looked for anything he had worth stealing.
"Were going to pack up those Beks this year," said one of the Vulkars in a slurring unbalanced tone.
"When we win with that *Burp* everyone's gonna follow us and ditch that old bastard," Mission gritted her teeth hearing that.. But she decides to take their Datapads and whatever money they had and quickly ran back to Zaalbar.
"Come on Big Z lets go," said Mission in a hurry.
"But my food!" said Zaalbar in angquish.
"You ate it all." said Mission as she dragged him away. "Lets get out of here before they sober up, could take hou-"Just as she was about to leave she bumped into someone causing her to fall down on her ass.
"Hey watch where you're going!" she said.
Mission looked up to see another group of Black Vulkars, Nikito, Twi'leks and Rodian. A bit more members, but they were more sober.. Anyone who saw the Vulkars moused up at the sight of them, they all turned away back to their business but anxious of what would happen.
"Out of the way little girl, unless you want to end up head first in the sewer system!" one of them said. Mission got up prepared to fight with Zaalbar getting ready to defend her.
"I'd rather be in the sewers than smell Vulkars, now move I got no time for you chumps," she said. One of them looked closer at her but Zalbaar pushes him back.
"GET AWAY FROM HER!" he roared scaring all the club. This got everyone's attention.
"Shit, that monster's feral!"
"That's right, unless you want Big Z to tear you eyes with a Vibroblade you'll back off, spike faces." they were about to run, but one of them examined the pair for a moment.
"Big Z, oh she's that little gutter snipe that hangs around the Hidden Beks." The group's fear turned to fear realizing who Mission was.. Mission was not amused and clenched her fists.
"Brejik was right, Gadon really is senile now, especially if he lets this kid think she's a Bek."
"He's lost his mind along with his eyes."
"Hey you take that back about Gadon, he's a better leader than that snub Brejik ever will!" she put her hands on her hips. "I will be a Bek, just watch me!" she looked up at Zaalbar, "Right Big Z!?" Zaalbard folded his arms.
"That's right!" he answered, though he was caught in Missions intense emotions.
The Vulkars all just laughed at her. They looked down on her, lots of people did.
"Whatever kid, I've seen those Bek's laugh at you when your not looking." one of them said with a sneering grin. Mission gritted her teeth and clenched her fists.
"Don't call me that!"
"Your better off being one of those dancers, skinny enough" one of them uttered, leering at her up and down.
"Ew, move!" ordered Mission, she nearly puked again. Her stomach hated her for this constant turbulence.
"Or what?" one of them said. They all pulled out a weapon, A vibroblade or even a blaster.
"Or you're dealing use" said a stronger, strict and familiar voice; it belonged to a pale Twi'lek with violet lekku wearing a uniform clade in Greyish blue and Reddish orange with a symbol of a the planet of Taris and a swoop bike on her heart. She was Zaerdra of the Hidden Beks and with her was a grou of Hidden Beks.
"Z-Zaerdra, whats she doing here?!" one of them asked. Mission smiled ear to ear seeing the Hidden Beks. But Zaedra looked at her only for Mission to chuckled.
"Helping a little Twi'lek girl, apparently." said Zaerdra. The other Beks chuckled at this joke but Mission folded her arms.
"Hey, me and Big Z can take them!" said Mission.
"Doesn't matter, Gadon asked me to come check on you." said Zaerdra "He also said that you'll probably try to make a mess of this place if Zaalbar fought."
"Get out of here you witch, its none of your business what we do to this urchin!" one of the Vulkars said with venom. Zaerdra looked at him with peircing eyes and he nearly froze.
"Guess your Black Vulkars are cowards, can't pick on someone their own size." said Zaerdra.
"HEY!" complained Zaalbar in a roar.
"To be fair, you are pretty huge Big Z." said Mission. She almost couldn't hide her giddiness.
"They're so cool," Mission thought to herself. She watched as the Vulkars were perepared to piss themselves scared. She looked around at the room, everyone that got scared by the Vulkars were calmed by the Bek's presence.
"Forget this, lets leave," said One of the Vulkars. The others agreed and Mission's smile grew wider. The Beks made a path and the Vulkars left, navigating past tables and the looks of disrespect from the patrons. But one stops before leaving with the other and looks back at Zaerdra with a sinister smile.
"Brejik says 'Enjoy power while it lasts, see you soon,"
Zaerdra, Mission, Zaalbar, and the other Hidden Beks felt a pit of disgust in their stomachs. A voice of arrogance of the Vulkars matched their leader down to the bone. After the danger was gone, the rest of the bar settled down and went back to their business. As for Mission and Zaalbar, they were met by an annoyed Zaerdra.
"Mission what were you thinking, Gadon told you that you not to mess with the Black Vulkars too much, if Zaalbar wasn't here you could have gotten killed!" said Zaerdra.
"Hey they bumped into me and I stood up for you guys!" said Mission defensively."And I could have taken them!" She folded her arms angrily.
"*Chuckle* Thanks Mission." said one of the Beks.
"She would have killed them if we didn't show up, they lucked out." mused a Hidden Bek. The other Beks started laughing, but Zaerdra looked back at them and immediately stopped laughing.
"What are you even doing here Zaerdra?" asked Mission.
"Gadon wanted to make sure you got home safe, and that Zaalbar was keeping you out of trouble.
"You didn't need to do that, me and Big Z take care of each other." said Mission.
"It's a full-time job, for both of us honestly," said Zaalbar.
"Exactly, I can take care of myself anyway, which is why I should be a-
"You're too young," said Zaerdra, coldly. Mission sank hearing that, she looked the other Beks who gave their silent approval. "You heard Gadon, two more years, he wants you safe" Mission felt nothing but a waive of disappointment. Her heroes save her just to shut her down. Zaalbar put his hand on her shoulder in support. The other Beks felt a pin of sadness pierce their hearts seeing Mission like that, Zaerdra included, but even they understood.
"*Sigh* Alright everyone, lets head back, we've been here too long" said Zaerdra. He turned back to Mission.
"Mission, go home" said Zaerdra.
"*Sigh* I know," said Mission. "Come on Big Z," Missio and Zaalbar then left the Catina with the other Beks watching them.
"Want me to follow, make sure she's okay?" asked one of the Beks
"What, so she can lose you in the sewers" said Zaerdra "She'll be fine for now, Gadon at least thinks so." she scratched her head, "' She's smarter and more clever than all of us', he said"
After Mission and Zaalbar left the Cantina Mission led her wookie friend to one of the old sewer systems to head to anywhere else. Mission practically stomped away in disappointment as she navigated her way through the cluttered, rusty, steam ridden, dirty Zaalbar could tell, he knew Mission better to think that she'd be fine.
"Mission-"
"I'm fine, pipe's just a few feet ahead Big Z." said Mission trying to get her mind away from any negative feelings. "Let's head up to the uppercity."
"Huh? You hate it up there," Zaalbar pointed out as he and Mission rounded a corner and stepped on a large insect, "Lets go to the undercity."
"Nah, the Rakghouls are antsy today, we'll play the-"
*DODODODODODODOD*
"AAAAAAHHHHH!"
Mission stops and hides behind a nearby pipe hearing a loud noise with a blood curdling scream. Zaalbar joins her, though it was a bit touch and go hiding his large frame.
"Don't talk Big Z!" whispered Mission.
From down the large hall, mere feet away was a group of dead Men, bloodied, filled with holes with their blood flowing out of them. Each of them had a weapon in their hands, none of which could have saved them. Mission and Zaalbar could smell the blood, Zaalbar prepared for the worst when they saw a small group of men standing over them. One of the more notable ones was a gruff-looking man who had the air of a battle-hardened warrior with splattered blood decorating his black sleeveless shirt and brown pants. In his hands was a heavy repeater that he used to kill his victims. Mission and Zaalbar weren't brave enough to try and walk past this man during his business, they knew who he was
"Nice job Canderous." said one of his allies. Canderous just scowls.
"Whats so good about killing some helpless fools?" Canderous asked, "I was expecting a better fight," one of the other thugs walk over to the bodies.
"Yeah well, you know how Davik is," he kicked one of the dead bodies, "Any unpaying bastard's a dead one, makes no difference,"
"Right, anywhere else or are we having tea next?" asked Canderous gruffly, he was nothing but displeased at the moment.
"Not yet, for now your done," said one of Davik's men. He hands Canderous a stack of credits and that earned a stink eye from the Mandalorian.
"This is less than I was promised," he said. "Are we going to have a problem," Canderous readied his weapon when both men put their hands up.
"Hey Hey Hey, this is what Davik told us to give you, and you want to blame someone blame the guys not paying their 'protection fine'!" said the thug,
"Yeah, he takes it out of our pay too!" said the other thug.
"Really, cause I heard through the grapevine that some of you boys attacked a Republic Base in the Upper City little while ago," said Canderous. The two thugs froze in terror. "You idiots might be worth the spare change, but don't think I am,"
Canderous then walked over to both of them, startling them. They were two Giska against a Rancor, they might offer some entertainment, but they wouldn't prove any better than the guys he had killed.
"I'm heading out," he turns their backs to them, "Tell Davik that if he's going to stiff me, the next guys he has me turn my gun to better be a challenge." Canderous then walked away alone, leaving Davik's men alone, or so they thought.
"Mandalorian freak,"
"Forget him, just take whatever you can off these chumps, and maybe it will make up for what we're not getting." While they were busy a smarter Mission and Zaalbar sneak past them to head to the Upper City. There were a couple of rules that the people of Taris all knew to follow, but not some didn't and one of those rules was not to mess with Davik the crime lord and a close second rule was not to fight Canderous Ordo.
Upper City
In the much cleaner, populated, and somewhat ritzy Upper City of Taris, Mission, and Zaalbar made their way to the roof of a small droid shop that had closed up for the night. They lay down, just eating the hours away. She was distracting herself by looking through the Datapads that she had stolen. She didn't like the Upper City in general, if someone knew you were born in the slums like she was then they'd get mistreated, lots of rich people lived in the Upper City and they would complain about the smallest inconvenience and get their guards to solve it.
"ALIENS ARE A PLAGUE ON OUR PLANET, THEY MUST BE DRIVEN OUT LIKE THE DISEASE THEY ARE SO THAT WE CAN BE PURE!" said a loud crazy old man on a Soapbox. Alien racism was also a problem. To Mission, the only thing the Upper City had going for it was the fresh air and the view of the sky, both were things Mission needed right now. It was easy for her and Zaalbar to sneak up there and back home without any trouble.
The Republic had some soldiers there, but they weren't particularly well thought of. She practically ignored them, hell the war going on barely bothered her. The only reason she came up here was so to get a little space from the Hidden Beks, she didn't like the idea of them seeing her in a bad mood. And she didn't want to run the risk of running into them again and the Undercity was a
"*Sigh* Nothing in this one, just some weird love notes about those dancers," she tossed it to the side, "I'll wipe it clean to use later," said Mission. She looked at Zaalbar and saw that he was looking up at the stars, not really saying anything. She grabbed the other Datapad.
"Hey Big Z, you in there" Zaalbar sat up and looked at Mission.
"What is it Mission?" he asked.
"What are you being silent for, I half expected to hear that stomach start talking," said Mission.
"I'm just thinking about some things," said Zaalbar. He almost sounded sad.
"Thinking about home?" she asked concerned. His growled a little, Mission was spot on but he didn't want her to know.
"I don't wanna talk about home," said Zaalbar a bit upset.
"Okay I'll drop it, "said Mission. "I know you hate talking about it,"
"What about you, are you okay?" asked Zaalbar with equal concern.
"I'm fine, just haven't found anything good yet," she said sourly. Mission then snapped "But how can they not let me join, I'm 16?!" she complained.
"You heard Gadon," said Zaalbar. "Don't be too upset about it, he's just looking out for you."
"Yeah I know," said Mission. "I just don't want to be some joke to them."
"You're not, you're the smartest person I know," said Zaalbar. Mission smiled.
"Thanks, Big Z, even though that's not a big ship," said Mission. Zaalbar growled annoyed. Mission then opened the other datapad and found what looked like codes. She sat up to read them properly and she found out she struck gold.
"Wait, are you kidding?" she said excitedly. She looked through the Datapad over and over to make sure she wasn't dreaming. But Zaalbar was looking at something else. Several dots in traveling at a high speed, they weren't comets or an incoming ship. They were headed straight for the city and not a docking station.
"Mission? Uttered Zaalbar as he slowly got up.
"In a minute Big Z," she finished looking through the Datapad, "I can't believe it, these are codes to the Vulkar's base!" She started laughing. "OH those drunk idiots and I bet Brejik won't know or he'll kill them meaning they can't change them!" She stood up excitedly.
Mission?" Zaalbar'ds
"Oh this is perfect, we found the way into the base through the Undercity through the sewers. Oh, we use these codes to get past that forcefield and rob them blind and maybe even help the Beks!" suggested Mission happily. "After that, they'll have to-
"Mission, Look!" Zaalbar roared. He grabbed Mission and turned her around forcing her to look up.
"Big Z-" she stopped with her eyes wide and her mouth a gap. It was then she and Zalbar saw several large flaming objects coming down, some of them struck the top of the south part of the Upper City and one of them seemed to veer off, maybe heading to the Lower City or even the Undercity.
*RUMBLE*
When they struck, the city they caused them to shake Zaalbar, and Mission fell down from the impact that hit the city.
"What the heck, what happened?!" asked Mission as she stood up, staggering and struggling. "Is someone attacking us?!" she asked.
"Maybe it's the Exchange and Davik made them mad!" Zaalbar suggested. The mere mention of the Exchange or Davik for that matter made Mission's blood run cold. She was brave, but not enough to go against them.
"*Siren*
"Uh Oh." Uttered Mission. "
She looked down from the roof to see people scrambling in terror, screaming, and rushing to whatever shelter they could find. The big kicker was when she saw some of the Repulic soldiers starting o scramble, using their transports, weapons in hand, and the announcement they had for the city.
"People of Taris, This is the emergency broadcast system, please remain in their homes until further notice. The city officials and Republic will ensure your safety at this moment in time. I repeat please remain in your homes until further notice." No one had any clue what was happening and no one with any imagination had any positive guesses. It was the first time in a while she had seen Taris like this and she wanted no part of it.
"Okay Big Z, let's go home!" said Mission. "Keep your head down and don't let anyone take you!"
"Good idea," said Zaalbar.
Mission and Zaalbar then returned to the Lower City, unaware of how their lives would change from here on out. News of the "attack" would come to those high in power, criminals with zero regard for life, the lowest street punk, and even those who lived in the world without a sun. It would also bring invaders, events of pure luck for some and despair for others. And it would bring two stars that would draw more to them and shine brighter than many would realize. But it was starting that night where a small few would be crushed or blessed by the push and pull of the force.
Hope you enjoyed it, please review
Will edit it later and yes I changed Mission's age
