Rebecca quickly whistled a particularly tune to her Clefairy upon hearing this the fairy shot an Ice Beam, seeing this the Cubone countered with a Rock Tomb the beam of ice got stopped by the the giant rock that came from the ground.
After the exchange of attacks both trainers thought to themselves "Dante isn't doing bad at all compared to his past battles with the instructors in fact I haven't seen him use any the techniques he's used in his battle against that Jason kid or mine with that Anti-Lighting thing he used and the fact he's trained his Golbat to recognize non verbal commands, someone has different trained him". Thought Rebecca.
Seeing another using non verbal commands surprised Dante due to time it took to not only the Trainer to memorize but also the Pokémon "Rebecca's definitely earned her spot in the top three students makes me wonder if I'm not the only one hiding their skills, oh well enough analyzing Rebecca time to act".
Dante tapped his foot against the ground twice before pausing and tapping again, Sensing the vibrations from the tapping on the ground caused Dojin act, the ground type used it's signature combo Focus Rush threw it's glowing bone club at the Fairy, seeing this Rebecca called for a Brick Break but before the club even reached the Clefairy Dojin was zooming towards his opponent with an Aerial Ace attack and his skull helmet glowing white and silver signaling the combination of Focus Energy and Iron Head, before Rebecca could warn her starter the bone was a diversion she was already hit causing the fairy pain as she was sent flying to the edge of the field as her opponent grabbed it's weapon before it hits itself.
Rebecca was quick to order her starter, "Clefairy use Life Dew followed by Duality Blast" hearing this did Clefairy used the Water healing move then promptly shot both and Ice beam followed by a Flamethrower, seeing the incoming attack caused Dante used the same tapping he used for Dojin to use Rock Tomb to block the Ice the first time.
Another Boulder erupted from the ground and blocked most of the combo though due to being closer and not having enough time to fully form Dojin was affected by the bast from the move and sent skidding back with some minor burn and freeze marks across the front of his body.
"Nice move preventing me from attacking Clefairy before she could hear and cause some minor damage to me not a bad strategy at all though I'm not one to easily lose in a battle of wits either" thought Dante as he tapped his foot four times and paused once and tapped two more times as Dojin responded by using Rock Tomb around the field generating boulders across it and then using his Dig attack to hide under ground while covering the entrance with Rock Tomb.
Seeing Dante's move confused Rebecca because she didn't see the point of using Rock Tomb across the field if he was making the Cubone hide with Dig and made her wonder something else if The Cubone had any type of seismic sense why did need he need to use Detect thinking this caused to realize. "Their using Detect and seismic sense to always know we're at and limiting our escape with obstacles" realizing this made her realize something else "Wait maybe Dojin does have seismic sense but it's limited and relies on Detect before actually making it's move". Realizing this she quickly ordered Clefairy, "Clefairy continuously jump across the boulders keep them guessing" hearing this the Fairy quickly obeyed.
As it jumped on the fist it was surprised by the fact she fell through the false boulder into a hole and realizing Cubone used Double Team on the boulders and fell for the Cubones and it's Trainers trap. Seeing this Rebecca let out a cry of worry as her starter quite literally fell into a the Pyroars den or in this case the Cubone's den.
"Clefairy get out of their quickly" as she said this she saw another hole open up with it came her starter being rammed into with the Cubones combo of Iron Head and Focus Energy again as both Pokémon fell Dojin quickly changed positions so Clefairy took the brunt of the fall.
And before they hit the ground the hole was covered up again with Rock Tomb as the Pokémon land on it with Clefairy taking the most damage.
Before Rebecca could call out an order Dante was already ahead of her, "Dojin end this with Focus Club" before the Fairy had the chance to react she was hit with the combo knocking her out.
As she fainted Dojin stepped off of her out of respect to his opponent, Rebecca seeing unconscious starter quickly recalled her dejectedly disappointed with her self seeing this Dante called out "Rebecca you honestly did great and fought and adapted to the battle quickly the only reason me and Dojin won this battle was through deception" hearing caused Rebecca to cheer up and thank Dante but before she left she warned Dante, "You better watch your back because next time we Battle I'll win you better be ready" she said determinedly.
Hearing this proclamation caused Dante to respond, "Then you better train ten times as hard because me and my Team will be even stronger than this the next time we battle" declared Dante confidently.
After both opponents left the field Dante and Dojin were mobbed by several students with them saying along the lines of "Dante that was amazing you completely out smarted her" and "How come you've never tried this hard before" hearing and receiving all this attention caused Dante to get overwhelmed due to not being used to it luckily Jason came to the rescue, "Hey everybody give the man some breathing room can't you see your overwhelming him" the crowd now noticing this gave Dante some space and let him through and let him and Jason walk back to the bleachers.
"Thanks Jason I owe you one" Dante thanked gratefully which Jason responded with "Don't worry I'll send you the bill" Jason joked cause Dante and Dojin to blankly look at him, "Tough crowd" said Jason.
After the two trainers and Dojin sat down with Dojin of course claiming Dante's lap, seeing this caused Jason to comment "You and Dojin are really close aren't you" hearing this Dante responded with "Yeah we've been close since we first met and been inseparable ever since" said Dante.
Jason decided to ask Dante to continue where he left off on why he would've lost without the move Detect, Dante responded "Dojin doesn't have many ranged options that are super effective against a Rock/Ground like Gaia besides Focus Rush and Dojin wouldn't have been able to tank another Rollout and his seismic sense isn't developed enough to sense other Ground types Dig sense they open the tunnel to the opponent and couldn't keep up with the speed of Rollout" Dante told Jason.
Hearing Dante's explanation caused Jason to ask another question "So the speed affects the vibrations" Jason asked, Dante answered Jason's question "No for the most part it's like even if he could react to the vibrations he still would've been blitzed by Gaia" Dante answered.
Hearing the next student name who was fighting was the number 1 ranked student and from Unova named Julian Heart someone Dante hoped to be able to battle.
Julian Heart's POV-
Julian is a boy of slightly above average height for a kid his age being 5'5 with glasses and had neck length purple hair and gray eyes.
Feeling he was being stared at he looked to see the so called fifth ranked student Dante West sitting with the eighth ranked student named Jason Green and noting Dante was far better and was much smarter and stronger than he let on caused him to want to battle him with in the hopes he would have a worthy battle compared to the fodder the school had to offer.
Hearing the referee saying the match will begin between and Daniel something would be a 2v2 caused Julian to smirk knowing he'd need not 1 against this no name scrub.
His opponent released first being a basic Rattata seeing made Julian yawn and think "Dam I already guessed your lame but using a puny rodent against me and my elite team is basically suicide" thought Julian arrogantly as he released his starter "Halberd let's go" what came out was an above average size Axew who upon seeing it was a battle glare and snarl at its piece of trash of an opponent.
Seeing caused Julian's opponent to panic and order his Pokémon to attack "RATTATA USE QUICK ATTACK AND SUPER FANG" seeing his opponent scramble was amusing though the rodent knowing the powerful Super Fang caused him some surprise but chalked it up to letting this fight be interesting, Julian commanded his Dragon type with absolute confidence "Counter" hearing this caused the male Dragon type to smirk and it's tiny fist glow with Fighting type energy and smash it's balled fist and smash into the Rodent as it dared to bite him.
Halberd the Axew smashed it's opponent head first into the ground and then used Dragon Claw to finish it off, ending the fight before it really began seeing this shocked everyone at the one sided fight and somewhat impressed the Judges though not to the same degree when with Dante with his Anti-Lightning technique.
Seeing his Pokémon defeated so easily caused Julian's opponent to panic even more and release his next Pokémon being a slightly below average size Nidorina seeing it's next prey was just barely a challenge did the Axew take a lazy battle stance seeing such a reaction to it's presence caused the Poison type to growl and raise it's back spikes threateningly which only made the Dragon yawn.
Julian was amused the Poison type had some guts but he was bored and decided to end this now "Halberd end this with Dragon Claw" as he said this the scrub ordered his Pokémon to attack as well "Poison Sting" as the Nodorina was shooting the Poison attack the Dragon just ran right through it and smashed it's right claw into it's prey and sent it flying after seeing his opponent fainted after one hit caused it yawn and lay down as the match was declared over.
After recalling his starter and being declared the winner he looked and Dante and sent a cocky and challenging smirk.
Dante West's POV-
Seeing Julian unspoken challenge Dante gave his own smirk.
Hearing it was his turn to face the instructor Dante and Dojin both sat up with Jason saying "Good Luck Dante and Dojin I know you can win" Dante thanked Jason and headed to the Field as he and Dojin were making their way down the bleachers steps they passed Julian, Julian grabbed his shoulder and said "After we're teleported to Pallet town to pick up our Pokédex's let's fight if you dare" before Dante could respond Julian was already walking off before he could tell him if we passed.
After making to the field for the final time today and facing against the instructor and hearing it was a 1v1 and the instructor was releasing first "Magmar burn everything down" seeing the Fire type and noticing it was indeed powerful he decided on his starter who was standing right next to him "Alright buddy ready to win this" hearing this Dojin nodded confidently and ran over into the inside of the field and let out a challenging growl to the Fire type who looked to scoff at such a thing.
Both Dante and the instructor called out their orders "Dojin/Magmar use Rock Tomb/Flamethrower" ordered both trainers, as the Fire type move was blocked by the Rock type move and before the Magmar was hit by it as well it's trainer called out "Smash it with Brick Break"
As the boulder was about to hit a fiery clawed hand glowing with fighting type energy broke through it.
Seeing this caused Dante to realize the Magmar was an experienced fighter and was probably the instructors own Pokémon and not the ones they were providing for lessons, Dante tapped his foot twice before pausing and tapping three more times as Dojin heard this he immediately used Dig and covered his entrance as he entered it.
Noticing this did the instructor speak "Running and hiding after all the promise you showed how disappointing kid" as he finished his sentence he ordered his Magmar to act "Use Earthquake to snuff it out" before it could use the move did four holes open around it came four identical Cubones with glowing white clubes signaling the use of Focus Club but before it could land the instructor order a counterattack "To hasty kid Magmar Overheat a giant burst of a flaming explosion consumed half the field and directly hitting the Cubones.
After the flames from the blast burnt and smoke cleared up did everyone except to see an unconscious Cubone but were surprised to see nothing but a shocked instructor and confused Magmar did a Rock Tomb erupt directly behind the Magmar and rammed into it and sent it forward onto the ground on it's stomach, as it got up to recover did another hole open up in front of hit and came Dojin with a Focus Club and before the instructor could order a counter attack.
It was too late as the Fire type was hit with the combo and sent flying back into the boulder and before it could recover was knocked unconscious by Dojin's Focus Rush after being hit in the face.
After the instructor recalled his Pokémon did Dante respond to his earlier remark "You were the one who was to hasty sir thinking you could finish this fast sir". Stated Dante hearing caused the instructor to laugh "I guess you made me eat my words kid if it means anything you got my vote" said the instructor which caused Dante to nod gracefully.
After Dante left the field did he hear the finale battle between student and instructor, hearing Julian's name be called and seeing him already coming down he decided wish him luck for his battle and accept his challenge before he passed "Good luck Julian and I accept your challenge, I was hoping to face you anyway and glad I don't have to hunt you down" hearing this Julian smirked and said "You better watch closely than you'll need all the info you can get if you want to beat me" stated Julian confidently as he continued to his way to the field.
Hearing his proclamation Dante smiled at having more trainers to fight as he made his way to his Jason.
Julian Heart's POV-
After making it to his side of the field he was hoping to actually have to work for his already assured win.
Hearing his match with the instructor was another 1v1 and the instructor was releasing first like with Dante though instead of a powerful Magmar his opponent released an above average size Electabuzz standing at a whopping 5'8 for their species anyway thought Julian.
Julian released his starter once again "Halberd let's go" as the Dragon saw it's opponent it smiled being able to tell this opponent wasn't weak prey but a powerful predator.
Both Julian and his opponent stared each other down this action was followed by both of their Pokémon, both parties waiting for the other to make a move.
The instructor moved first "Electabuzz use Quick Attack followed by Thunder Punch" as the said this the Electric type blurred forward faster than the Axews last opponent so much so he was completely blitzed as he was hit not only by the Thunder Punch but also the momentum it built up by Quick Attack as the Dragon was sent flying back but quickly recovered from the attack as the move wasn't super effective though was still hurt by the punch and speed behind it.
Seeing that the battle deserved his full attention he acted "Halberd close the distance with Aerial Ace followed by Dragon Claw" seeing this the instructor commanded his Pokémon "Electabuzz use Swift and Electric Terrain" as Halberd the Axew still charged forward even as it was being hit by the stars the Axew used his sheer will power to make it through the pain as Halberd slashed his opponent with Dragon Claw the Electabuzz tanked the attack as the field was covered with electric type energy giving Electabuzz Electric moves more power.
Seeing the field caused Julian to realize he needed to finish this soon and curse for not having any Ground types something he was going to change, he didn't allow his annoyance to affect his thinking and ordered his Dragons next move would be his ace and be thankful his dads Haxourus trained Axew this move, "Halberd use Dragon Pulse" not expecting Julian to have access to such a move caused the instructor to order his Pokémon "Electabuzz tank it and use Thunderbolt" as the Electric type was hit by the move it attacked with it's Thunderbolt attack.
Both Pokémon were hurt but Halberd the Axew was more hurt as he took more hits and was completely pissed off at being beat into the corner he shouldn't be the one kneeling on the ground it should be his opponent a Dragon never yields especially to weaklings they were the apex of types.
Feeling these emotions of anger and inferiority cause something in Axew to snap as he stood up with renewed vigor as he glared at his opponent and roared for a challenge hearing this the instructor ordered for an attack "end this Quick Attack and Thunder Punch once more" hearing this Julian ordered his partner "Let him get close" hearing this Axew already knew his plan and held still as the Electric type dashed forward towards but before it made contact with the little dragon Electabuzz's fist met a barrier but since he kept the momentum everyone heard a sick crunch sound followed by cries of pain and anger as it glared at Axew who was behind its defensive move Protect.
Everyone seeing Julian used protect in such offensive way despite being an defensive move left everyone including Dante impressed at the creativity.
Seeing his ploy work caused him shout out commands "Halberd end this point blank Dragon Pulse followed by Dragon Claw" hearing this the instructor called to his Pokémon "Light Screen now!!!!!" shouted the instructor but was to late as his Electric type was hit with the full brunt of the Dragon attack knocking it back but before fell its face took the force a Dragon Claw slamming it to the ground and into unconscious.
The Dragon type landed atop the passed out Pokémon obviously exhausted from the exchange of attacks but still stood proudly over his fallen opponent and let out a challenging roar before passing out and landing on its back.
The referee declared me the winner since the instructors Pokémon passes out first leaving with the sweet taste of victory.
As I leave my spot to head to the front of gymnasium with the other students to see who passes or not as we lined up the person next was the female student Dante defeated named Rebecca someone who's he always managed to beat with his second Pokémon.
Rebecca Richardson's POV-
As she maid her way to line up with the other students she happened to be next to someone she utterly despises the most being Julian and planned to ignore him to he bugged her with a question "So how'd it feel to lose you second much with little to no difficulty by someone who wasn't me eh Becky" hearing him insult her and him calling her that stupid caused to react "How about you shut the hell up and leave me alone and bother someone else" retorted Rebecca angrily as she said this the judges spoke up.
No one's POV-
"Dear students we ask for your utmost attention" as all students ceased any random conversation to listen "Given the circumstances of the war and the shortage of league trainers has plummeted across all regions us and the international league has implemented a rule being us and every trainers school can give only five officials Trainers Licenses" hearing this caused the students to react negatively but before they could continue the judges spoke "We are doing this to ensure that only the most prepared students become capable trainers that represent our region and possibly our own League" spoke the head judge as he said another spoke up "That being said may the five students who are called up please come and receive your licenses". The head judge called the names "Dante West, Julian Heart, Rebecca Richardson, Jason Green.
Please come up and receive your Licenses" as they were called they lined up and walked to the judges.
Jason Greens POV-
Hearing his name being called made him want to jump for joy but held it in as he followed the others to the front of the other students as the judges handed us are Trainer Licenses.
After everyone left the gym to exit the school were we met by the our families at the front gate he looked to see that most of the parents were comforting their kids on not being able to pass, as he was noticing this he saw his Grandma so made his way towards as he let her on the good news.
"Oh my goodness I'm so proud of you my little Jay" as she was saying this she was squeezing the life out of him and showering him with kisses on his forehead and cheeks, having enough with the embarrassment as people were starting to notice, "Thanks Gram but could you let me go I have some other news I wanna tell you" saying this his Grandma let him go and ask "What is it Jay" Jason responded "I'm gonna be traveling with someone since I knew your were worried about me being alone" saying this his Grandma ask who Jason pointed over to Dante as he was staring at his fellow students with their families seeing this Jason called him over.
Dante POV-
Seeing the others students being happy being with their families made Dante feel empty, as he was feeling this he heard his name be called "Hey Dante over here" looking he saw it was Jason standing next to what he assumed to be a relative possibly his grandma as he headed over he noticed Rebecca was about to make her way over to him but stopped as soon as Jason called for him.
Once he was Jason he asked what was up "What's wrong Jason you need something?" Dante asked with a tilt of his head.
"No just wanted to introduce you to my Grandma by the way Dante meet Grandma, Grandma meet Dante". As he said both shook hands as his Grandma asked Dante two questions "So your gonna be traveling with my little Jay and why are you not with your family" hearing the questions Dante answered "Yeah and my Family passed away mam I'm just waiting for my guardian" Dante answered hearing this the old woman apologized which Dante waved off and said it wasn't her fault as she didn't know which is when she asked another question "Would you like to join us for Jason's celebratory dinner if you want" thinking on it and assuming his teacher/guardian would probably be late due to her work he accepted.
Time Skip-
After leaving Jason's house he made his way to his house as he was met by his Teacher "Hey brat saw your performance today good to see you didn't battle in way that would bring shame on me an Elite Four" as she finished and stepped out of the shadows revealed a old woman with graying blond hair wearing a pale purple dress and being flanked by her starter Gengar who was waving at him.
"Of course not you going easy on me in our training battles is hundred times harder than the instructors going all out" Stated Dante as his teacher laughed "hahaha good to see you still know that other wise I'd have to beat you down a peg and up your training" spoke the Ghost master who asked a question "Still haven't had any ghost following you kid" hearing this Dante answered "The Pokémon kind no haven't had any luck though I'm not dumb enough to pursue one" Dante admitted truthfully listening than responding Agatha said "Keep that attitude Ghost aren't kind to stalkers would hate to clean up another mess anyways make sure to sleep well so you can pick up your Pokédex from that old fool tomorrow I'd best be off I need some beauty sleep" spoke Agatha as she disappeared back into the shadows.
Seeing her gone made him realize he could've ask for information on Reed since she was so high up in the League Dante cursed himself who decided to see if there was any information on the internet as headed inside his house to sleep the night away.
Waking up the next day Dante checked his Pokégear once again for anything on Reed Wilson but are of it said he was a dead man promising himself to ask Agatha the next time he saw her he began to pack his bag with the necessities he already had a change of clothes, rope, flashlights till he got a Pokémon with the move Flash, some empty Pokéballs and potions and some emergency first aid and some fire starters and a temporary lighter, after packing and changing into a different outfit fit being a black jacket and white shirt and black pants and brown boots he looked himself in the mirror and was considering cutting his hair as it would be a hassle to maintain on the road and worried it'll grow out of control he headed decided to head to the local barber shop after Pallet Town.
Dante left his house and released his two friends Dojin and Violet who looked excited to be out and about in the sun landed on Dante's shoulder as Dojin walked to his right, the trio headed back to the school for the final time to meet up with the other passed students and their transportation being an Alakazam the regions professors Samuel Oak.
As he saw he was the first to arrive Dante noticed Dojin was showing the middle stage signs of evolution for his line that being growing taller and his skull mask fusing to his face and gaining muscle in general so decided to tell his starter "Dojin I think a few more battles and training sessions you'll finally evolve" hearing this the Ground type grew excited to grow stronger.
Hearing footsteps Dante and his Pokémon looked to see the rest of the students ready to start their journey.
A/N: if you're wondering about Dante and the other named characters height and their age here you go Dante is 5'5 Jason is 5'4 Rebecca is 5'2 and Julian is 5'5 and everyone of Dante's classmates are the same age as him being 12. Also I'm working on another story that takes place in the same universe as this story and takes place 4 years in the future in Unova called Diamonds In The Rough and three characters from this story will be appearing in it.
