When All Was Lost...
Chapter Eleven
11
It had been nearly two weeks since the last turf battle.
After hearing about The Enforcer's recent victory, the other gangs seemed to simmer down and go into hiding for a bit.
Akarii slept heavily like a rock each day since then.
As Jack stated...her body was more exhausted than she gave it credit for.
If it weren't for the sudden revving of a duel runner she didn't recognize... She might not have even woken up.
Having spent as much time as she did with Yusei when he tested engines, she came to learn that they distincted from each other...
She knew what Yusei's Duel Runner sounded like...
Same with Crow's.
This wasn't either of them...
Something...doesn't feel right...
She thought to herself as she listened to the runner's engine fade away into the distance and pushed herself up weakly from the rock hard mattress.
Crow was gone.
Probably scavenging.
She stood to her feet and wobbled unsteadily outside, fixing her eyes in the direction that she heard the engine travel.
What's this ominous feeling I have...?
"Hey Akarii...you're awake!" Crow chirped at her from behind, approaching her with a bag of energy drinks, handing one to her, "I was beginning to think you might never wake up."
"Oh...Sorry..."
Crow blinked at her curiously.
"Hey Akarii what's up? You look kind of out of it..." he said softly checking her head for a tempurature,"Are you okay?"
"Well...actually, I-" she froze as she was interrupted by a crying little girl who ran and hugged her knees,"Annie? What's the matter?"
Annie was one of the younger children she and Crow took care of.
"Akarii, it's awful!" she squeaked,"Someone took Itsuki away!"
"What!?" Crow gasped kneeling to her level,"Wat happened!? Who took your brother!?"
"I dunno..." She wimpered,"But they took him away on a duel runner!"
"A duel runner!?" she gasped
"What's up Akarii? Do you know something about this?"
"I'm not sure if it's related," she said softly,"But I was woken up this morning by the sound of an unfamiliar Duel Runner Engine..."
"Well that's a good start!" Crow said," Hop on your runner and head the direction you heard it on, I'll catch up with you on mine!" he said, "Annie, you wait inside the house until we bring your brother back, got it?"
"Mmhm!" she nodded,"Please be careful!"
"I'll head out!" said Akarii,"You hurry up and catch up!"
"You don't gotta tell me twice!" said Crow,"I'll see you soon!"

I managed to track that suspicious Duel Runner back to the Old Track...
But where they were headed was beyond my knowledge...
I heard the comminication connection notify me in the control panel and instantly connected to Crow.
"I managed to find the source of the rougue engine...there's a couple of thugs ahead too they seem to be working together."
She gave them a closer look noticing a small and rather scared child being securely held by a guy in the middle that the others seemed to be surrounding as though to protect him. The child he held was A teary eyed Itsuki.
"They definitly have Itsuki."
"Stay in pursuit! I'm on my way." said Crow,"Send me your location, ptonto!"
"Got it, sending coordinates now, over and out."
Finally the pursuit was slowing down.
They pulled away into an abandoned bowling alley... An obvious hide out, meaning that those who kidnapped the boy, were obviously enemies of The Enforcers.
"Looks like you have no where left to run." Akarii huffed, cornering them.
"Akarii, help me!" she could hear Itsuki's cries before he was yanked away by a startled biker thug.
"Shit, Didn't expect you to catch up so soon." he gruffed, "Looks like the princess here is quite the rider."
"It's not like she's a threat by herself." another one of the members snickered.
"Take a good look boss, we out number her 3 to 1!"
"Grrh..." she gritted her teeth as she felt a cold sweat slowly trickle down her neck.
I hope Crow gets here soon...or things are gonna get real bad real quick.
"All right...you punks had your fun...now let the boy go." she stood her ground with a low growl, "It shows a real cowardice for grown men to gain an advantage by use of kidnapping a child!"
Apparently they thought Akarii was funny.
After she said this, the whole lot of them started to burst out laughing.
"That's big talk coming from a little girl." The biggest one of the group stood tall with a heavy presence.
He appeared to be the leader, tossing the boy into the arms of another captor,"Judging by your threads, your a member of The Enforcers, right?" he stepped heavily toward her and she could hear the gravel crunching under the weight beneath his boots, "I'm calling your team out...but it seems I'll have to make an example of you first~"
"That won't be nessasary~" a familir bird call rang around the corner and she felt relief wash over her at the sound of Crow's familiar engine screeching around the corner.
"Took you long enough, bird brain~!"
"Sorry I'm late Princess~" Crow smirked, "But you know how it goes...nothing like a last minute rescue!"
Akarii rolled her eyes, amused that he could make jokes in the situation!
"Crow!" the young boy called out to him in glee.
"You hold tight Itsuki, while Akarii and I wipe the floor with these punks!"
"You think you have a shot!?" their leader laughed motioning for his minions to crawl out of the wood work,"You're outnumbered~!" he scoffed.
"Haha...that's funny." Crow chuckled and Akarii stifled a smirk along with him.
These guys had no idea who they were messing with. As long as Crow and Akarii were teamed together, they were a force to be reckoned with...and as they both readied their duel disks...these guys were about to find that out the hard way.
"I like these odds..." Crow laughed."Let's Duel!"
