When All Was Lost...

Chapter Fifteen

15

News that Akarii had woken up traveled quickly and she had plenty of visits from her friends.

The first being Jack, who was none too happy about finding Crow sleeping ontop of her limp body. He yanked Crow off and tossed him to the floor giving him a serious scolding, followed by one from Yusei as well.

Ever since then, Jack visited a lot more freqently.

He claimed it was to "check on her" but really he was just making sure Crow wasn't, as he stated, "putting moves on the girlie while she was weak."

Jack and Crow arguing was a normal day in the life of her. In fact it was weird when they weren't arguing...she much preferred their squabbling.

"Hey...how you holdin' up?" Kalin came to check on her as regularly as he could.

They'd have a light chat and a laugh before he went on his way.

He always made sure to update her on things related to The Enforcers, as a valued member of the team.

Yusei would come by, usually bringing her fruit that she couldn't eat properly. So later, Crow would usually cut it into bites and feed it to her. Whenever Jack walked in on this though, he would get really huffy and puffy, snatch it away and attempt to do it himself.

Awkwardly and quite clumsily.

Which she found to be funny...considering he was so tall he looked so troubled having to kneel down to her level to make sure she would eat...eventually he gave up and let Crow continue to do it.

That is so long as Jack stuck around to supervise.

Still though, it's not as if Jack Atlas could hang around for 3 meals a day.

Crow had been extra careful and tender when handling the girl and helping her move a little more.

It had been a bit over a month now since that incident, and she was getting better and more active with each passing day.

"Crooooooow~! I wanna get uuuuuuup~!" she whined.

"Well you're not getting up." he huffed.

"But Croooooooow~!"

"NO!" he sighed," You took alot of damage, you're still healing you know, my god just take the rest you need and stop being a baby!"

"But I feel totally fine~! I mean it, really!?"

"Oh really?" He gave her that look that clearly stated that he doubted every word she said, and planted a good firm slap on her back.

"OW!"

"Yep...all better~" he snickered.

" Crow, you did that on purpose!"

"Hahaha."

The days were filled quite peacefully like this.

Crow continued being the mother hen he always was, and even the kids would scold her whenever she tried to get up too soon. They would run and tattle on her to him which led to an earful, and her pouting.

"I dunno Akarii...are you sure Crow would be okay with you riding your runner like this?"

Yusei asked with genuine concern and she let out a low growl and rolled her eyes collapsing her head to her handle bars.

"Crow is what I am trying to get away from, right now!" she huffed," He worries too much...I get it, he cares but I'm FINE and I wish he would just stop smothering me already!"

It had been over a month now since the accident and she spent a good part of it wrapped up like a mummy bandaged and bound in bed.

As the month was nearing its end however, she began to feel herself able to function again and would push herself a little further each day...

Not without being scolded however.

"What's up?" Yusei chuckled,"Lover's quarrel~?"

She blushed.

"W-We're not-UGH shut up and time me will ya!?"

"Okay! All right!" laughed Yusei,"Take your mark..."

It was a rare treat to be teased by Yusei once in a while.

The guy comes off usually so serious all the time...sometimes she would forget he was the same age as them, being as mature as he was.

She took off like a rocket the instant he let the flag down to signal that he began time.

The rush of the wind rising and the increasing speed was exhilirating.

She took a normal 3 lap track as though she were preparing for one of her street races.

A little side hobby she picked up to help support their little nest back home since she couldn't fully Turbo duel just yet.

Yusei still needed to make some moderations for that option, he was working on it for his own runner as well.

She made great time, but her victory lap would have to wait...

"THERE YOU ARE!"

She had a bird brain squawking at her and sighed, forced to hop out of her day dream.

"Dammit Akarii is it so hard for you to just take it easy!?"

"I've been 'taking it easy' foreverrrrrrrrr~" she groaned,"I'm~ So~~ BORED~~~~!" she let out an exhasperated sigh which Crow met with a hiff of annoyance as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Yusei! How could you let her-"

"Hey, hey ,hey, WOAH~ ! I'm out!" laughed Yusei,
"Don't make me part of your lover's quarrel~" he snickered.

This time Crow blushed.

"We're NOT-" He stopped mid sentence giving her a quick glance before sighing.

"HaHa come on Crow...maybe you can loosen her reigns a little." said Yusei," I have no control over Akarii and what she does...and neither do you."

Crow sighed in defeat.

"Fine...if you insist you're fine...then let's settle with a duel" said Crow.

"I'll wait for you back at the house, bring your A game!"

"...Spoken like a duelist..." Yusei chuckled as he watched a stubborn Crow stomp away.

But he wasn't the only one known for a stubborn streak.

A quick shifty blue eyed gaze darted right back to the flared up red head.

"Good luck." said Yusei, who took Akarii's runner off her hands for more tinkering.

Crow waited for her with his duel disk lit up like christmas.

He was serious about this duel.

"Fine." she huffed," If I win you leave me the hell aloooone~" laughed the girl.

"I'm only on you this much because I care!" grumped the black bird.

"I know that...and I appreciate it...but I'm okay...I promise."

"Yeah well...prove it to me~" he grinned," Let's duel!"
