"Shit. Fuck. You answered."
Mia was thrown off by the cursing. Oftentimes she only hears it coming from Harmony's mouth. She knew that Lou cursed but reading it and hearing it was different.
"Well, Yeah. You called."
"I did. Yes I did. I - umm, What are you doing?"
She chuckled glad she wasn't the only one nervous, "I'm just laying down in bed. It was a long day. But I'm clean and the deeds been done."
There was shuffling on the other end of the phone, "Iii am also laying down. In my bed. Hehe."
"You don't have to be nervous." She tells him though she was also telling herself.
"It's been a long time since someone said that to me while I was in bed with them."
Mia laughed, "I can only imagine."
"Me in bed? I promise the real things better than the imagination."
Her cheeks were red, "You're making me blush over here."
"You're welcome... It's good to hear your voice."
She let his words sink in.
Lucifer could hear her breathing through the phone. It was good to hear her voice. It made the days of messages feel real. Like Mia was real, he was beginning to doubt it after his time in Cannibal Town.
"I agree. I'm actually surprised with how beautiful your voice sounds." Mia replied.
"Haha. Yeah, the voice of an angel."
She had a soft laugh, "I mean, I wouldn't go that far. But I do like it."
He shifted on his mattress again. His body relaxing to her vocals, "Yeah. I like yours too. Happy I got the balls to call you. You know, while I was in town today I was hoping to run into you."
"Wait. Really?"
He ignored the surprise in her voice, "When I went to the plant shop I was hoping that I'd walk in and see you. Of course, you weren't there. And Charlie ended up leaving with her very own plant-."
"Is this your way of saying you want to see me?"
Lucifer rolled so that he was on his back. He was wearing casual clothes. Rubber duck pajama pants and a plain white tee. His hand rested on his stomach and he could feel the shift in his breathing.
"I guess so. Yeah. Fuck yeah. I want to see you."
His excitement has him sit up against the headboard, "It can be a date."
"Oh. Wait. Wait."
"I'll get us reservation for the best place in town, or we could do a picnic-"
"Lou! I can't." His face fell at her words, "I mean, I can't right now, I just picked up a new project and- and it was actually really difficult to finish my last one on time with you always on my mind. Give me a week."
Lucifer crossed his legs and his knee was bouncing, "One week?"
"A full 7 days."
He groaned, "You're fucking serious."
She laughs, "I really fucking am."
"Okay. But I'm calling you every fucking night."
"No. If you're a good boy, you can call me every other night."
His head hit the headboard, "I'll only be a good boy for you." He couldn't help it. Flirting felt so much more alive when he could hear her voice.
When he could hear the skip in her breathing and the fidgeting on the other end.
"Hmm," Lucifer could hear the smirk on her lips, "Don't be too good though, you might bore me."
"I don't think that's possible." He started to play with the hem of his pants, finding that he was getting tired. He suppressed a yawn, "What's your next project?"
"Mmm, I'm not entirely sure. Its near the Detroit Institute of Arts. I got to go scope it out tomorrow." She yawns into the phone, "I really should be going to sleep."
"Guess this is Good Night."
"Good Night Lou."
Charlie woke up early and had had the intention of making breakfast for everyone.
Only she was already beat to the task when she entered the kitchen to her dad flipping pancakes, wearing his 'Kiss the Chef' apron. Dancing and singing to the flips for the cooking batter.
"If you like pina coladas
And gettin caught in the rain
If you're not into yoga
If you have half a brain
If you like makin' love at midnight
In the dunes on the cape
Then I'm the love that you've looked for
Write to me and escape"
I didn't think about my lady
I know that sounds kind of mean"
When he turned around to see Charlie he stopped singing and brought her into a half hug while his other hand held a try of pancakes.
"It's a Good Morning Apple Pie!" He sang the words and led Charlie to the table as Angel and Husk entered the room as well.
"You're in a good mood." Charlie points out.
Lucifer chuckles, "It's a Happy Day in Hell."
"Your smile burns." Husk groaned.
"Whadya expect from the King of Hell?" Angel spoke as they grabbed a plate of food.
"Soo, Dad, You said that Mia does deals on Earth?" Charlie's voice was hesitant.
Lucifer was completely oblivious to her tone, "Yes. She's got a new one this week."
"I thought we wasn't allowed down there?" Angel lifted a brow.
"Well, that's where I was going with this actually. Dad, is Mia working for I.M.P or an Overlor-"
He interrupts the gossip, "Mia actually works for herself. An entrepreneur. She said that she preferred the free will of choosing her own work."
"Like a prostitute." Angel says with a mouth full of food.
"Yes, but no. It sounds more like she's getting humans to summon her to earth."
Charlie's face scrunches, "But I thought that humans could only summon the hellborn."
"Technicalities," Husk says as Lucifer also sits at the table, "Humans that fuck with shit are always bringing trouble to themselves."
They ate the rest of their food with casual talk. Charlie purposefully waited for the table to clear and it just be her and her dad.
He was happily humming away and sending a message on his phone. Charlie assumed to Mia.
"Dad?"
Lucifer gives his daughter his attention, "Yes, Apple Slice?"
"Well, I- You finally took off your ring. Is this because of Mia."
He looks down at his hand. He had almost forgotten that he had removed it last night. It wasn't the first time that he had tried to take it off, but it was the first time that he didn't feel the phantom weight of the ring and all that it had meant to him.
"It was just time."
