"Dad, you can't just leave to go see someone you barely even know."
"Awe. Didn't know the short king wazza romantic." Angel Dust watches him flatten the collar to his dress shirt.
"I am. Ain't I!?" Lucifer looked over his reflection in the floating mirror. He looked good.
"Why are you dressed like that? Just where exactly are you going?" Charlie scrutinized him even more.
She thought he looked casual nice. Almost too casual for his usual tastes.
"Don't worry Sweetheart. It should only be the day." He gave her a quick hug before banishing the mirror and opening a portal, "Tootles."
His plan was to first teleport to Morningstar Manor. It has been basically abandoned since he moved into the hotel. He only used it when conducting business with the Seven Deadly Sins or any other Hell matters. Today he just didn't want anyone to see through the portal he was opening.
Lucifer thought of Detroit, Michigan in America. State flower being the Apple Blossom and the home of Motown music. Also named one of the most dangerous cities in America and the state as a whole held a lot of paranormal activity.
The portal opens in front of him and through it he can see an alleyway waiting for him. The portal would take him to a location with the most current paranormal activity.
Vincent's Repairs, was on a sign for a small hole in the wall business. It was currently closed and looking through the window he saw generations of different tech and there were wires hanging from the ceiling.
His reflection mirrored back his appearance. A white dress shirt tucked into black slacks. His sleeves rolled up to his elbows. A fit for whatever generational trend was currently happening.
Slicked back hair and his pale face seemed empty without his cheek dots.
Lucifer was in his human suit.
He took out his phone first to see if it was even working across the dimension. Sure enough he had a notification from Charlie.
"I know you told me not to worry. But I'm worried."
He chuckled thinking about his Char - Char pacing the hotel lobby, "Made it here just fine. Don't worry."
And then he scrolled to his other message chat. Mia, with a plant emoji next to it.
Checking the time, she should be having lunch soon.
"How's work?"
He kept it simple as he started to walk toward the main road. It had been a few centuries since he really roamed the streets leisurely. Definitely not since Lilith left.
When they were together they'd come to various locations for dates. See how the garden of Eden was doing. They accidentally left behind some paranormal activity at the Bermuda Triangle. That's around the time they stopped having leisure Earth dates.
"About to take my lunch break in the nearby park. I brought it with me today." Mia responded.
Hmm, he had an idea about where she could have been, but hadn't a clue on where he was. The coming street was busy with traffic of both cars and people.
It took him a moment for his senses to adjust to the surrounding humanity. Oh, the dreams that he once had for Earth and all the people in it.
Lucifer starts making his way down the street and observing the cracks in the street and sidewalk. Watching as the people ride their bikes past him. A sign catches his eye of a nearby café.
Following the directions leads him to a house converted into a coffee shop, In Harmony Café.
"What can I get for you today?" The young woman at the counter asks him. Glancing at the menu his eyes go straight toward the An Apple A Day Salad.
"I'll have the An Apple A Day Salad with. Hmm," It had been a moment since he had fresh human food, "A Frozen Caramel Macchiato. Yeah, that sounds fancy."
The woman nods her head as she uses the register and the tablet, "That will be $32.75."
Lucifer hadn't had to use Earthly money for a long time but was lucky enough to have still had some in his wallet. Pulling it out he hands the girl a $50, who looks at the money skeptically.
"Umm, just a moment." She heads in the back and returns with an elderly woman. The woman was old and he could almost smell the life fading from her, "I think it's a fake."
The young woman holds the cash out to which the elderly woman chuckled, "No my dear. It's just an old print. I haven't seen one of these in a long time."
"I haven't been in the area for some time. Which direction is the Detroit Institute of Art?"
He ignores the young adult's murmurs as he listens to the elderly woman's words, "-If you see The Cathedral Church of St. Paul you've gone too far."
"Here's your drink and your food. There is seating around back." The begrudge staff held out the food.
He took it and headed out back, the grass and the trees were glimmering with the sunlight, there were birds flying overhead and the sun was beating down on him. If he wasn't used to the flames of damnation he'd probably have regretted his clothing choice.
Lucifer took a picture of his frozen drink and sent it to Mia. "New favorite thing."
Mia: "It looks super sweet and refreshing. I finished lunch and will be heading back out."
He wasn't too worried about finding her. A demon of her nature probably traveled through the shadows. Which the close buildings provided plenty of. He'd sense her when he was close... buut just in case.
Lou: "You ever find the location for the project?"
Mia: "Yeah, It's in front of The Cathedral Church of St. Paul."
He pursed his lips thinking about the location. For obvious reasons he wasn't thrilled.
After savoring the taste of the salad he headed out. It amazed him how similar Pentagram City and the streets of Detroit were. Only Pentagram City made this place look like a retreat.
Lucifer could see the church from a distance. The architecture was standard for a cathedral and Heaven had plenty of them. As he got closer he could feel the warding of the red doors. It was a heavy feeling. A reminder to him that he wasn't just the King of Hell but also a Fallen.
Sighing he continues to walk past the front of the building. Opening up his senses to see if he could pick up any demonic activity around him. He roamed around a bit more till out of the corner of his eye he sees bright colors.
Like a kid to a candy shop he is pulled forward to investigate.
The closer he got the more color he could see. A giant mural on the building. It was as if being transported to a garden. The only greenery amongst the urban setting.
Flowers in full bloom, trees that bare fruit, birds that flew across the scene, rabbits for birth and the butterflies for transformation.
But as he got closer the most beautiful thing in sight was the woman wearing stained short denim overalls. Her hair was in a top bun and was surrounded by stray bottles and paint buckets. Her eyes shined bright looking at the progress she had made at her massive canvas. Her creation.
Lucifer watched in defeat as the woman lifted her phone and then a moment later his phone quacked in his pocket.
He knew what would be there.
It was becoming evident that he had a taste, because there was Mia in front of her Garden of Eden.
