Luz wasn't sure exactly how the magic she'd used to get into Amity's mind worked, much less what she had to do to get out (and she only realized this detail when she finally thought that her work there was done and that she would have done better to go away), but fortunately she didn't have to worry too much about the problem because as soon as Amity touched the mirror she was automatically catapulted away. When she was outside again she tumbled to the ground and she almost hit her head, and luckily King was there and stopped her by making his body a soft shield. "Urgh… did it work?"

"Luz! What happened in Amity's mind?" King asked her.

"Well... I guess. I'm not sure, I know Amity came out of the nightmare, but otherwise I couldn't tell you..." Luz answered truthfully, as she was quite confused by what had happened, but she stopped when she saw her girlfriend.

Amity had reopened her eyes, which were now no longer red, but a golden shade that shone with the strength of a sun; the girl had a determined look on her face, more determined than Luz had ever seen her. The air seemed to swirl around her like a tornado, and her gaze was fixed on Grometheus and the Collector, who were still fighting in the air. Amity turned her gaze slightly, and met Luz's; she and the puppet looked at each other's eyes, and then the young witch winked at her. At that point Amity closed her eyes and took a deep breath, and suddenly her heart began to glow brightly with a white light as she rose into mid-air.

"What is she doing?" Luz asked.

"It's a magical balance!" King replied surprised. "What does she want to do?"

Small beams of light magic appeared around Amity, being sucked into her palms and absorbed into her skin; at the point where the girl's heart was located, a vortex of white light began to appear, within which there was an immense dark mass. The vortex grew, and became stronger and stronger as the two spells began to fight each other.

King's eyes were wide. "I can't believe it..." he murmured.

Luz didn't understand. "What happens?"

"She's not just doing a normal magic balance…" King said. "She wants to balance the very essence of Grometheus!"

"WHAT!?" Luz exclaimed in amazement. "It can be done?"

"I... I don't know! It's the first time I've seen it!" King admitted.

Amity rose even higher, reaching almost two meters from the ground; more and more light magic flew into her hands, and the whirlwind in her chest continued to become more and more violent; but despite this her expression was calm and serene, and the girl wasn't even frowning. Grometheus's single eye widened in surprise and he turned to her: "What do you think you're doing!?"

Amity didn't answer him; on the contrary, she opened her eyes wide, showing her golden irises again, and she stared at Grometheus with an indecipherable gaze. She seemed to be challenging him with her eyes. The fear monster became furious at that sight. "Do you really think you can balance and make the essence of a supreme being your own!? You, a miserable mortal!? You may have escaped my control, but you cannot do this!"

Grometheus moved his dark tentacles to strike her, but the Collector's multicolored ribbons blocked him; the child unlike the monster had a satisfied and encouraging look on his face, as if he understood what Amity had in mind and was telling her to continue without worrying about Grometheus. The two supreme beings returned to fighting, and every time the fear monster tried to approach Amity, the Collector forced him to retreat.

The vortex that was in the young witch's chest expanded and enveloped her entire body; it was like watching the bloody battle between one unstoppable force that was trying to spit everything out and another that was instead trying to lock it in. However, even though more and more light magic was taking part in that deadly dance, the dark magic still seemed stronger. It was so powerful it felt like it was about to explode.

"This doesn't work" King exclaimed worriedly. "She's not absorbing enough light magic! At this rate the balance will break and she'll explode!"

But Luz, contrary to expectations, had a calm face; she was obviously sweating, but still her eyes were full of seriousness and determination. "No... she'll make it" she said in a confident voice. "Amity can do it all! And she knows it, or she wouldn't have started this magical balancing act! Come on, Amity, show her! Get all the magic you need! Even mine if you need to!"

And as she finished speaking, the form she had taken when King passed his powers to her seemed to be ripped away from her, and condensed into a single beam of light that moved toward Amity. Luz went back to being a normal puppet, but she didn't stop and continued to loudly encourage her girlfriend. The beam of light magic lit up even brighter and when it took part in the vortex the dark magic contained in it seemed to retreat in fear. King was more surprised than ever: "Did you manage to imitate me when I passed my powers on to you!?" he exclaimed. "Wow... you sure learn quickly..."

But Luz wasn't even listening to him. "Keep it up, Amity! You can control that magic. You are strong, intelligent, cunning, skilled! There is no one in this world as brilliant as you, and no one has as much determination in their heart as you! Don't even think for a moment about stopping, you can do it!"

The beam of light magic surrounding Amity became even brighter, so much so that it rivaled the moon; the young witch was busy keeping the two magic under control, which cost her a lot of concentration, but still she heard her girlfriend's words as if she were speaking directly next to her ears, and a smile formed on her face. And as soon as this happened, the power of the light magic increased, becoming ten times stronger and brighter than before.

All the spectators except Luz were shocked. "What... what is this heresy!?" Grometheus exclaimed looking at her. "Impossible... no mortal can summon so much light magic! No... wait..."

"She's not summoning more of it..." King murmured, his eyes so wide that they now took up almost his entire face. "She's amplifying what she already has... like...". His gaze fell on Luz. "Of course... how could I not have thought of that! Keep up to do so, Luz! You're doing well!"

The puppet gave no sign of having heard him again; her gaze was fixed on Amity, and her expression was increasingly determined. "Amity, you never gave up, ever! You always won every challenge, even those against yourself! So don't give up! I know you can do it, I don't even need to see it happen! You can do anything! It's because of you that my life is so beautiful now, every day that I see you the world seems more colorful and magnificent! I love you, and I know that you love me as much as and maybe even more than me! And that love tells me that you you can do it, and I believe it! I firmly believe in everything my heart tells me, and my heart belongs to you!"

The swirl of light magic became brighter than ever, so much so that it looked like a sun; Grometheus flinched, and his one eye twitched slightly. "It... it's not possible! This can't happen! No one can have such pure and deep feelings!"

"Oh, instead I think so" the Collector said with a smile as he looked at the two girls. "Those two girls are linked by something that a dark being like you will never understand, Grometheus"

And suddenly, Amity turned her head back towards Luz; the two girls looked at each other intently. There was no need to say anything: their eyes spoke for them. It was as if all the light of the universe was contained in those looks. And then, a fraction of a second later, the vortex of light imploded and wrapped itself around Amity's heart, and the dark magic it contained was crushed until it was reduced to just a dot; Grometheus screamed as if something was hurting him very much. And then, the two magics were absorbed by Amity's heart, and disappeared inside it; there was a moment's pause, and then a column of purple light exploded from her body, lighting up the sky like it was day.

Luz had to close her eyes because she couldn't see anymore; but she could still hear, and she was thus able to hear King's voice: "Well done, Luz! Great job!"

The puppet looked at him confused. "Huh? But I didn't do anything..."

"Yes, you did! Your pure and sincere heart did much more than you think: you gave Amity all the light magic she needed to complete a magical balance of titanic proportions... or at least, you provided her with part of it, the rest was produced by Amity's good heart!" King replied.

Luz understood less than before. "What are you saying?"

King obviously couldn't change his facial expressions since his head was a skull, but still the puppet had the impression that he was smiling at her. "Light magic is the opposite of dark magic, remember? With dark magic you can make contracts, with light magic you can give away your powers, but not only that! Just like a witch who has a contract with someone can absorb their power whenever she wants by increasing the power of their dark magic, just like a parasite, a person who is in possession of light magic can absorb the positive feelings of the people around them! The more others believe in them, the more the light magic in their possession grows stronger! And you, Luz, didn't doubt Amity for a moment! You always believed in her, even if what she was doing seemed impossible! There wasn't the slightest doubt in your heart, and Amity believed every word you said! That deep bond the two of you have has enhanced light magic so much that it even counteracted Grometheus' essence! Luz, you and Amity have generated so much positive power that you could balance a piece of a supreme being's soul! I don't think anyone else has ever done it before!"

Luz had listened to King for the first part of the explanation, but in the end she got a little lost as she was too busy looking at the column of purple light in front of her and especially the person who was emerging as it faded. Amity reappeared, still in her usual witch form, but there was something different about her; she seemed to erupt magical energy from every pore. She still had the essence of Grometheus, but unlike before it was as if she had chained it to herself. "No... no, that doesn't make sense! You can't...!" Grometheus was exclaiming.

Amity didn't answer him again: she raised her hand and an ever-increasing quantity of dark matter began to swirl in her palm. Throughout Bonesborough, Abominations turned into muddy masses and flew towards Mirkwood, and all of them concentrated in the young witch's palm; a gigantic mass of dark matter swirled higher and higher until it was barely the size of a balloon, at which point it swirled up to the portal and passed through it.

"No!" Grometheus exclaimed upon seeing him. "I won't let you ruin this! You may have taken control of my essence, but I'm still stronger than you!"

He was about to attack her again, but the Collector again got in his way or pushed him away with his magic ribbons. "Maybe you're stronger than her, big dude, but you lost!"

"No!" Grometheus screamed, but then his huge body began to shake: Amity had her finger pointed at the portal, which was shrinking, sucking the monster inside. Grometheus grabbed the ends of the gash to try to keep it open, but with each passing second it grew tighter.

"STOP!"

Amity barely looked up to see Odalia flying towards her at top speed; but from her perspective, it was as if she were coming in slow motion. Her expression didn't change in the slightest as she watched the older witch try to jump on her to stop her, while on the contrary a small smile of satisfaction appeared on her face when she saw Lilith fly towards her and ram her in flight, making her roll on the ground.

"Lilith!" Luz and King, who had barely seen the scene since from their point of view the witch and the fairy had moved too quickly, exclaimed in unison.

"I'm here too, kiddo" Eda said as she landed next to Luz, and the first thing she did was ruffle her hair. "I don't know what you did, but great job. And damn, your girlfriend is truly amazing!"

"GUYS!". The trees of the wood moved and all their friends appeared on the backs of a kind of enormous vine that slithered on the ground like a snake.

Luz's eyes widened at the sight. "Um... how...?"

"We got some help from the Collector. Long story, we'll explain later" Gus told her with a laugh. "Come on, let's end this story once and for all!"

"No!" Odalia roared as she stood up. "I won't let you ruin this! I've waited too many years for this! I don't..."

She was about to start dueling again with Lilith, who in turn already seemed combative and ready for battle, but suddenly Amity raised her hand towards her and Odalia flew up without her broom, which fell to the ground and transformed back into Ghost, who seemed more dazed than ever. Amity had an almost indifferent expression on her face, but her arched pupils were still evident. Odalia trembled a little: "Mittens...?"

Amity closed her hand into a fist, and Odalia felt as if someone had just stabbed her in the heart; suddenly she felt a magical barrier surround her own magic and enclose it, blocking it. Her witch form vanished and she fell to the ground with a thud. Then Amity turned back to Grometheus and stared into his one eye, and she said: "Disappear!"

The fear monster made a strangled noise, and then he was thrown back as if launched from a catapult; in less than a second he passed completely through the portal and vanished beyond it, and the crack in the sky closed with a final flash of light.

All the people present had their eyes wide open. "Kiddo... marry her" Eda whispered to Luz, who seemed to have stars for eyes as she looked at the young witch.

Amity looked for a moment longer at the spot where Grometheus had vanished, and then she looked back at her mother, who was looking at her hands in terror. "What... what happened!? Where did my magic go!?"

"It's still inside you. It's just sealed" Amity replied in a flat voice, but that clearly contained an angry note.

Odalia glared at her: "Why... why!? How could you do this to me!? This was our chance! We could finally get what we deserved! I've waited decades for this! How could you, Mittens...!"

"SHUT UP!" Amity roared, and the air around her seemed to explode; Odalia felt a shiver run down her spine as she felt her daughter's magical power touch her. "You never cared about 'us'! There was never an us! There was always only you! You used me my whole damn life! You deceived me, you controlled my mind! You allowed to that monster to use me!"

Odalia drew back a little frightened. "M-Mittens... I just wanted our family to be..."

"Don't talk about family! Don't act like this was the will of all of us! You were the one who wanted all this!" Amity told her. "Fourteen years! For fourteen years I did nothing but do what you wanted, and you never for an instant tried to ask yourself what I wanted! This is what I was to you, nothing more than a means to an end! Enough is enough! I'm not your toy anymore!"

Odalia was starting to tremble; her daughter's violent aura almost seemed to crush her. "Mittens... it's not like that... I... I really love you..."

"Well, you never really showed me that!" Amity replied sourly. "It's over now, get over it. I played your game and I won it all, and you lost. So stop bothering me. I've spent enough time around people who made me feel bad. So do me the courtesy of disappearing from my life!"

"Mittens..." Odalia murmured with teary eyes, but Amity turned and walked away from her without even sparing her another glance. The now ex-witch weakly raised an arm towards her, but immediately she lowered it and fell to all fours on the ground, while a few tears began to flow down her cheeks. She heard faint footsteps behind her, and she turned to see Alador standing next to her. "You were right" she whispered in a small voice. "It's really easy to destroy your happiness"

Alador nodded sadly. "Yeah. I know" he said as he watched Amity who with a broad smile joined her friends and hugged Edric and Emira who held her tight, and obviously also Luz who showered her with kisses.

Amity finally told her mother to go to hell. I know you've all been waiting for it, here you are served. And she was also able to control and contain Grometheus' essence, so she is now technically one of the most powerful beings in the world
