Chapter 4: The Big Showdown
Once the three survivors made it up to the next floor after escaping the Doctor, they found themselves going past what appeared to be another waiting room and once Six and Mono made it through a nearby window, Shadow teleported himself to them using chaos control. They then found themselves in the streets of the Pale City and they continued on. Eventually once they came to a building, they kept heading up the stairs until they saw someone fall through the ceiling on one of the rooms they had entered. They tried to see where he went… but found the person dead inside a TV. Shadow was beginning to think that he was getting closer to figure out who was behind this catastrophe. Once they continued onwards, they found themselves in another dark room. They could hear more people being attracted to TVs in the darkness. Whenever things were clear, Mono would bring out the flashlight and Shadow would bring out the turquoise chaos emerald. Eventually, they came to a bathroom with another person watching TV in a bathtub . Shadow was beginning to believe that the only way to save this world… was to take out the one responsible. Once the three left the room, they found another elevator and after activating it, Mono and Six stayed in the elevator while Shadow teleported up to the next floor. With the door to the elevator locked, Shadow needed to find a key. After a quick search, he got the key and freed them from the locked door. After seeing another floor above them, they got the elevator going down and once it was coming back up, Mono and Six jumped on the top while Shadow simply teleported above.
Once they went through some nearby boards, they found themselves on a roof outside. As Mono jumped onto another roof ahead, Shadow looked back at Six who seemed to be staring at something. It appeared to be the shape of a skyscraper with something glowing at the top. "What could that glowing yellow thing be?" she asked him. Shadow simply looked up and saw something that looked like a beacon, but he knew this wasn't like any skyscraper from his world. "Don't know. Too bright to be a star," he told her. Now Shadow was starting to think that whatever caused this, the tower might be how it all started. Just then Mono returned through a window behind a nearby motif and the three continued on. Once they were on top of the motif, they needed to find a way across to the nearby apartment. After Six gave Mono a boost, he turned a crank and brought a nearby coat hanger to her. Once she was on the other side, she turned around and held out her hand to catch Mono. However, a power outage occurred, and then nearby faceless residents from the buildings burst through the walls and started to go after the three now that their TV's were off. Shadow told Mono to keep going with Six while he would buy them some time to escape. The two kids were reluctant to go on without Shadow, but they had to continue. While climbing the ladder, Six looked back with a worried look wondering if he would catch up with them to which Shadow looked back and nodded. This gave her a side of relief and she and Mono continued. Once he saw that they made it through a window in the apartment, Shadow then turned his attention to the residents of the city surrounding him and began to fight them. He was easily able to get hits on them with his teleportation powers. After finishing the last of the residents, even throwing the last resident away off of the motif himself, he then looked down and saw more residents in the distance attracted to the TVs in stores. "Such a cowardly attempt to take the city. Unbelievable", he said to himself. Shadow then heard the sound of someone screaming. He quickly teleported into the apartment just in time to see a hand pull back into a TV… with Six in its grasp. Shadow then looked at the TV and he knew what he had to do. "I don't know why, but I feel like I have to protect her… or something terrible will happen," he said. Shadow then walked over to the TV… placed his hand on it… pulled out the white chaos emerald… and with a bright glow of white… he teleported into the TV… ready for the ultimate showdown that was about to take place.
Inside a long dark hallway, Six struggled in her kidnapper's arms to try and break free and escape. However the kidnapper didn't let go… then a huge boom was heard. The kidnapper turned behind him and he and Six saw a black and red figure emerging from the smoke. Once clear of the smoke, Shadow got a good glimpse at the figure right in front of him. He appeared to have a corpse-like look, but was a tall, slender person wearing a black suit and hat. The tall person wondered what had just stood before him when the ultimate lifeform told him one thing, "Hand that girl over now!" The person simply turned around and then he kept going with Six beginning to struggle once again in his grasp. Shadow then tried to get a sneak attack on him, but failed when The Thin Man blasted him aside. Once that was taken care of, he entered a door into a big room with nothing but a chair. He then felt something ball-like hit him from behind at tremendous speed. Six flew from his grasp, but something caught her before she hit the ground. The Force of the impact has caused some rubble to fall from the ceiling revealing a pink glow above them. When The Thin Man recovered, he saw that Shadow was the one who attacked him and caught Six. Once he made sure she was hidden behind a fallen piece of rubble, Shadow then turned to the Thin Man and said, "Trying to challenge me is a big mistake! And you're gonna regret it!" The Thin Man slowly got up and replied, "I think that I can easily defeat a small, filthy rat such as yourself." He tried pulling Shadow closer with his telekinesis, but using that move… made him vulnerable as Shadow grinned and then said…, "As you wish!" He then used his spin dash and with the Thin Man using his telekinetic powers to pull Shadow towards him, The Ultimate Lifeform easily got a hit off him. Once he was free, Shadow began to spin dash around The Thin Man trying to confuse him. He tried slowing time down with his powers and it worked for everything around him… except Shadow… who was moving at normal speed. The Thin Man tried to get a hit on him, but Shadow dodged and got the hit on him instead. Once things weren't slowed down, Six tried to ask Shadow, "Is it ok for me to try and sneak around through the door?" Shadow shook his head no and told her, "You'll only get hurt." Once she agreed and was safely hidden once again, Shadow turned to The Thin Man and quickly dashed around and landed another attack from behind. While they were fighting, the room had begun to get bigger and more spaces with the pink glow began to appear. Using his powers and being the more experienced fighter between the two, Shadow was having the upper hand in the fight. The Thin Man eventually knew that there was no way he could take on Shadow and that he had to get out of there as quickly as he could. After one more successful attack, Shadow turned once he saw a nearby TV flick on and told her to go through it. The Thin Man saw her banging on the TV trying to escape… and then being pulled out by something. "You're not going anywhere!" he mumbled to himself. As he tried using his powers to grab her, he was hit in the face by a chaos spear. Shadow then dashed around trying to get another hit on him, but The Thin Man pushed him out of the way and then grabbed Six. Once he had her, he flung her through a long dark hallway. Enraged, Shadow then threw a chaos spear at The Thin Man while he was trying to escape through the TV. Once it hit him, he was flung through it and the TV exploded. Shadow knew that wherever Six was… he would find her. Before he went off on the search for her, he looked back at the broken remains of the TV and said…,"He hasn't seen the last of me."
As Shadow sped through the area searching for Six, strange things began to happen. Pink entryways began to appear all around him. Eventually he found himself in a maze of pink entrances, but he knew what he would do. He brought out the red chaos emerald for chaos control and hope for the best. Once he teleported in the next room… he saw Six, who appeared to be in a monstrous form. He knew that he was still going to help her no matter what. He knew that since he was created with the DNA of Black Doom, he was kind of a monster as well(even though he knew he was a hybrid between a hedgehog and an alien). As for Six, she didn't know what his intentions were going to be. "Shadow? You're still going to help me after what I've turned into?", she asked. Shadow nodded and then replied, "I made a promise and I'm here to keep it!" Shadow then grabbed her hand, and began leading her to find an exit. While they were searching, the walls around them began to turn into flesh and big eyes emerged. Even though these things were appearing around them… Shadow didn't care, he was determined to try and get Six to safety. In particular, one of the eyes was a bright green and it didn't like seeing the new monster prize trying to escape with an unknown lifeform. It appeared in front of them and began shooting energy beams at the two of them. Once the two found a hiding spot in a room with a couple of toys and a large music box, Six began to become worried. But Shadow reassured her that he would handle this and told her to stay where she was. Shadow then took a few steps forward… closed his eyes… brought out all 7 chaos emeralds… and transformed into Super Shadow. He then flew up to try and fight the green eye. The eye tried to fire it's beams at Shadow, but the super hedgehog dodged it's attacks and did his own attacks. On the outside of the city, things were normal, however there were some bright yellow blasts going off of the tower which anyone could see for miles around. Back in the tower, the eye fired a mega beam at Shadow to try and finish him, but he dodged and defeated the eye with his final attack. Once Shadow flew back to safety, things began to get chaotic as the remains of the eye began to glow with grey energy and electricity. Shadow then saw nearby toys flying up towards the explosion… and disintegrated. He then flew back to Six to check on her safety. She wondered what they were going to do, but deep down… Shadow knew there was only one thing to do. He made sure that she was hidden in the back of the room with a suitcase. "What are you going to do?", she asked. As he went to get the music box he told her, "Sorry friend, but I'm taking over." After he delivered the music box to her, he continued by saying, "After all we wouldn't want you to hurt yourself now would we?" He then turned to face the enemy… removed his inhibitor rings… and flew up to try and stop time. "CHAOS…CONTROL!" After a flash of white light, Six looked around and saw that everything was back to normal. She looked around to see where Shadow was… but she couldn't find him. She then put her music box in the center of the room as tears began filling up. She began remembering all the things that Shadow did for her. Shadow staying close when she was freezing in the rain, helping to cure her when she was sick, defending from The Thin Man and The Green Eye, and helping her after what she turned into were all the good things she remembered with Shadow. She then saw a piece of chalk on the ground and began drawing a picture of Shadow as a way to remember him by.
Later on, Shadow woke up on the shore near the doorway he came with Mono and Six to start the journey. He looked around and couldn't find her anywhere. He did find that all of the chaos emeralds were together once again… and his inhibitor rings were with them. He then put his rings back on, collected all the emeralds, and then looked at the Tower. He then knew that if Six was there… that's where he'd go to find her. Before he sped off, he said one thing while looking at the Tower.
"Maybe we'll meet again."
