Adventures in the Elements
In the living room of the Owl House, Luz was reading a pamphlet of Hexside on the couch. Max was sitting next to her polishing his ring. Shartok was sitting on the arm of the couch eating a fruit.
"Can you believe it, Shartok?" asked Max "Tomorrow, me and Luz are gonna enroll in Hexside"
"Let's just hope you don't burn the place down" Shartok joked
"Oh please. Like I would ever be capable of doing that" Max replied "And I have fire powers"
"King, listen to this!" Luz said as she read the pamphlet
"Less read-y, more scratchy" King said
"Sorry! Now that me and Max will be students at Hexside, I wanna learn all about it! I've got a new crush, and her name is Education!" Luz said
King responds by biting part of the pamphlet
Just then, Eda bursts inside
"Hey, freeloaders! Guess what today is?" she asked
"Is it your birthday?" Luz asked
"Is it my birthday?" King asked
"Could it be my birthday?" Shartok asked
"I would say if it's my birthday, but I already know what date it is" Max said
"It's my birthday!" Hooty claimed
No!" Eda replied as she came in and slammed the door. "It's Human Treasure Day!"
She then throws the portal door which opens. Owlbert comes through with a large sack. As the sack hits the ground, it tears open to shows a large pile of garbage. Eda then leaps onto the pile
"Ahh, fresh garbage" she said
"Why am I not surprised?" Max said with a deadpanned expression
"Ooo, gimme, gimme, gimme!" King said as he rushed over to the pile. He then pulls a teddy bear out of the pile "Yes! Another worthy addition to my army of terror!"
King pulls a string from it's back
"I love cuddles and kisses!" it said
"Truly horrifying" King said
"Yo, kids. Your trash pile's getting cold. While mine's getting hot!" Eda said before pulling a clothes hanger "I have never seen such an extravagant earring."
"That's not an earring, Eda. That's a clothes hanger." Max pointed out
"Wait. You hang your clothes on this earring?" Eda asked "Hmmm. You humans have the weirdest things"
Max facepalms at this
"You can have my trash" Luz said as she was still reading
"I am not rolling around in garbage" Max added "But let's see what I can find in there"
He walks up to the pile and reaches in. Max then pulls out some kind of shoulder armor.
"What's that?" Shartok asked
"It must be some kind of shoulder armor" Max said "I wonder who threw this away. I could sure use this in my adventure"
"Good idea. That way I can be protected from nearly getting burned when you're in your fire form and getting zapped in your electric form" Shartok pointed out
"Whoa! Did you know that Hexside was built on the bones of its rival school? One it literally conquered!" Luz said as she showed a part of a pamphlet that shows a picture of a young Principal Bump
"Interesting" Max said
"I second that" Shartok added "And I've flown by here when I was young"
"Yes, I know all these things, I went there. It was the most harrowing period of my life." Eda as she looked at herself in the mirror "Oh, hello"
"Can you imagine it! Me and Max, in the halls of Hexside, studying with Willow and Gus and—maybe even Amity" Luz said
"Not to mention, Emira and Edric" Max added as he blushed while thinking about the older Blight girl
"Are you blushing?" Shartok asked
"No" Max said quickly as he turned away
Luz then realized something
"Amity! Oh cramity! We're supposed to meet so I can get my Azura book back!" she yelled as she got up
"Can I come too?" Max asked "I want to get this stench away from my nose"
"Sure. The more the merrier" Luz said as she head to the door with Max following after her. "We love you guys!"
"We'll be back soon!" Max added
"And I love you, gu.." Hooty said before getting the door slammed
And the humans headed off
"Later guys" Shartok
"Eh, who needs them" Eda said before turning to Shartok "Hey Shartok, come on in. The garbage is fine!"
"That's okay, Eda. I'm fine over here" Shartok replied as he was still on the chair arm
"Max will be fine. But this bear could be our new Luz." King said as he pulled the string on the back of the teddy bear
"Being without you is just unbearable." the teddy bear said
"You're unbearable!" King yelled as he threw the bear to the ground
Shartok snickers at this
In Bonesborough, Max and Luz were walking through the market district searching for Amity
"Do you see her, Max?" Luz asked
"Not yet" Max answered
"Amity, Amity, Amity, Amity." Luz said as they continue searching
Max then notices Amity ahead
"There she is" he said as he points forward. Luz looks forward and smiles
"Hey Amity!" she greeted as she and Max ran up to her
Suddenly, Edric appeared in front of them
"Hey guys!"
This startled Max and Luz. Luz fell down while Max skids to a stop
"Edric. Didn't expect to see you here" Max said before noticing someone missing "Where's Emira? She's usually with you"
"BOO!"
"Aaaah!" Max yelled as he turned around to see Emira behind him. "Emira. You scared me"
"Gotcha!" Emira said with a laugh
She then walks up next to her twin brother as they continue to laugh. Amity then walks up
"Edric! Emira! Stop bothering them!" Amity said as she helped Luz up "Sorry about that. They insisted on coming for some reason."
"Because we love you, baby sister!" Emira teased as she leaned in and squished her face
Amity shoves her away and fixed her hair
"They've been extra protective and nice towards me to make up for what happened back at the library" she explained
"And we still apologize everyday." Edric said as he leaned in next to her
Amity shoves him away also. Max walks over to Emira and helps her up
"So, how are you?" he asked her
"I'm doing fine. But I feel even better now that you're here" Emira said as she leans in front of Max's face
"Heh heh. Thanks?" Max said with a blush
"In any case, here's your book." Amity said as she gives Luz the Azura book
"So, what'd you think?" Luz asked as she takes it
"It was... fine" Amity answered
"So fine you drew yourself with Malingale the Mysterious Soothsayer?" Luz asked as she takes out a drawing from the book
Embarrassed, Amity traced a spell circle to destroy the drawing.
"This is great! Maybe we could even start an Azura club at school when we're classmates!" Luz said
"When we're what?" Amity asked confused
"Surprise! I'm enrolling in Hexside!" Luz said as she takes out the pamphlet
"She's not the only one enrolling" Max said as he walks up next to her "I'm gonna be a student in Hexside also"
"Really? Since when did that happened?" Amity asked in surprise
"Back in the covention where we dueled. Principal Bump was so impressed by my performance that he invited me to attend Hexside. By tomorrow, I'll officially be a student" explained Max
"That's cool" Amity said before turning to Luz "And I'm sorry, Luz. But to be in my class, you need to take a placement exam and prove that you've mastered two spells."
As she said that, she showed Luz the requirement on the pamphlet
"I know that you have your light thing while Max has his elemental powers" Amity said "Uh. Do you know anything else?"
"Placement exam? Spells?" Luz asked nervously
Emira and Edric then appeared behind Amity
"Quit giving her a hard time, Mittens." Emira said
"Yeah, of course she knows two spells. Right, Luz?" Edric asked
"Pff. Yeah. 'Course I know two spells!" Luz said as she laughs nervously
"Also, Max has two elemental powers. So he's already in" Emira added as she winks at Max
Max blushed at this
"Well I sure hope so, Luz. Because if you don't, they'll put you in the baby class." Amity explained as she showed them a section on the baby class
"Oh boy" Max said
"Oooh! Brain idea!" Edric said as he got under Amity
"What if we all trained together? We could show off what we know!" Emira asked as she leans on top of Amity
"Really?" Max asked
"Mmmhmmm" Emira as she gets off of Amity, walks up to Max, and grabs his hands "Plus. We get to spend some time together"
As she said that, Emira leans really close and bats her eyes at him. This caused Max to turn bright red as steam shoots out of his ears. Luz chuckles as she saw this
"So what do you say, guys?" Edric asked
"Uh, actually, I have other training plans in a very far away place that I have to go to right now." Luz said as she took her leave
Max then gently frees his hands and backs away with his face still red
"Yeah. I'm gonna go too. Later Blights" he said
He starts to run but then trips and falls to the ground
"I'm okay" Max said as he got up and continues to run after Luz
Emira giggles at this before sighing lovingly. Amity and Edric couldn't help but watch this
'Is it just me or does Emira have a crush on Max?' Amity thought
Back at the Owl House, Eda was in the kitchen reading a book titled: Bending Ingredients to Your Will.
"Wow, a surprisingly peaceful domestic moment. When will it be ruined?" she asked
She hears the door slam open
"Eda!" Luz called
"There it is" Eda sighed
Max and Luz enters the kitchen
"Eda Eda Eda!" Luz yelled until she nearly falls over
Max catches her
"Whoa there" he said
"Thanks, Max" Luz said before turning to Eda "You have to teach me a new spell right now!"
"Sorry, Luz! These vegetables won't cook themselves... yet." Eda replied
She pours a potion onto some vegetables which caused them to grow arms and legs
"Alright, everybody in the pot" the Owl Lady said
But this caused the vegetables to scream and run away
"Why do I always think that's gonna work?" she asked
"Duh. If you're gonna cook live vegetables, don't mention the obvious" Shartok said while flying down
"No one asked you, Shartok" Eda said annoyed
Shartok stuck out his tongue and flew onto Max's shoulder when he came up. Luz then came up as well
"But I need to know two spells to get into decent classes at Hexside. I can make light glyphs." Luz said as she makes a light glyph which blinds Eda "But at the end of the day, that's the only spell I know."
As she said that, Luz fell to the floor
"And whose fault is that?" Eda asked with a frown
"Yours" Luz replied
"She has a point Eda" Max spoke up "Let's be honest. You never bothered to teach her other spells aside from the light glyph. But you were able to help me control my elemental powers. And just recently, I unlocked earth powers"
"Really? I guess you both got me there" Eda admitted
"Just teach me a spell now. Any spell! It can be the darkest evil." Luz said as she got up
"Ooh. That's a line you don't want to cross" Shartok said with a shudder
"Well, I have been researching my texts on wild magic, but I'm much too busy right now." Eda said as she throw a book she was using into the pot
"Come on, Eda! You're the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles. How would it look if your apprentice got thrown into the baby class?" Luz asked
"Yeah. I mean think about your reputation there, Owl Lady? You would be the laughingstock of the whole Boiling Isles" Shartok said
Eda glared at Shartok before realizing what they were doing
"Hmm. Weaponizing my pride. Well played. Well, in that case, this looks like a job for magic boot camp." she said
King came through the door
"Did someone say boot camp? I agree to run it. We'll rise at dawn! You'll carry me on your back as I yell hateful things about your performance!" he said
"Nope. You'll have no part in this. Luz needs to focus, and I can't have her go all weird when you do something adorable." Eda said as she denied King's help
"I am not adorable!" King yelled as he stamp his foot
"Aww, he stamped his little foot!" Luz cooed
"You just proved her point" Shartok said with a snicker
King squealed and runs out the door, but not before slamming it three times
"If it's alright with you, Eda. I want in on this magic boot camp. This could give me an opportunity to unlock a new elemental power" Max said
"And if he's going, then I'm going too" Shartok added
"Very well" Eda said "Now, no time to waste. You'll have to follow my teachings exactly. We gotta go somewhere special."
"Yes!" Luz said
"A place where magic energy just flows." Eda continued
"Yes!" Luz yelled as she climbed onto the counter
Eda, Luz, Max, and Shartok were at a snowy part of the Boiling Isles wearing winter gear. Max was wearing a brown coat, brown snow hat, black gloves, snow pants, and boots. Shartok was wearing a red and white striped scarf around his neck.
"A place like, The Knee" Eda said
"Yes!" Luz yelled
Her voice echoed all over the Isles. Shartok covered his ears as the yelling was loud
"The earliest witches came to the Knee to develop their magic, drawn to its natural power." Eda explained as they walked through the knee
Luz gasped as she saw some ruins covered in snow
"It's beautiful!" she said
"I'll say. I have never seen so much snow in a place like this" Max added
"Yeah. Definitely a good place to train" Shartok said as he rubbed his hands together
"Though it's not without it's dangers" Eda said as she points to the left
Luz, Max, and Shartok look to see a white creature gnawing on a tree trunk. Luz yelped as she saw it
"What is that thing?" Max asked
"The Slitherbeast! Don't worry, if you don't mess with him, he won't mess with you." Eda said as she walks off
"I agree. Best to leave it alone" Shartok added
"Took the words right out of my mouth" Max said as they followed after the Owl Lady
Luz stuck it's tongue at the Slitherbeast. The Slitherbeast snaps the trunk with it's teeth which scares her away. They then stopped in the ruins
"Here's where we'll set up shop." Eda said
"I'll definitely learn my second spell here" Luz said
"Not to mention unlocking a new power" Max added
"Since we're in a snowy environment, that would be ice powers" Shartok said
"Gorgeous views, magic in the air. And best of all, we're completely alone!" Luz said as she wondered through the ruins
Suddenly, a pink fireball comes towards her
"Look out!" Max yelled as he and Eda tackles her down. The pink fireball hits a wall
"Sorry, whoever's over there!"
They look up to see Amity and her twin siblings in the distance
"Well. I guess we're not completely alone" Shartok said
"Forget teaching me a spell, just make me disappear" Luz said nervously as she duck down
"Well, okay, but I've got a 60/40 record of making you re-appear. Oh! You meant... ah, never mind." Eda said
Max and Shartok watched from behind some rocks as Edric and Emira were waving at them
"Hey Luz!" called Edric
"Hi Max!" Emira called
"It's us!" Edric called
Max waves back
"Okay, let's do this." Luz said as she stands up and waves at them "Hey guys"
"Who are they?" asked Eda
"That's Amity Blight" Max answered "And those two are her twin siblings, Edric and Emira"
"Is one of them the girl you were talking about earlier?" Shartok asked
"Uh huh" Max replied
"Be cool! If they know I haven't mastered two spells, they'll think I belong in the baby class!" Luz said to Eda
"What's that about the baby class?" Amity asked as she walked up
"Only that it's for babies, and Luz here clearly isn't a baby." Eda said as she looks at Luz "Nailed it"
Eda then walks away while whistling
"Anyway, we didn't expect to see you and your siblings here, Amity" Max said
"Yeah, obviously we didn't know you would train here" Shartok added
"Thanks" Amity answered
"So. Amity" Luz said as she leaned forward before slipping and fell to the ground "Wha... What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to train. I'm trying to beat Ed and Em's highest score on the exam." Amity explained
"Aw, Mittens. That's impossible!" Emira said as she appeared from behind Amity
"She still needs to use a training wand to learn new spells." Edric said as he also appeared behind Amity "So what are you workin' on? Something powerful?"
"Yup! Powerful spells! I'm workin' on one that's so crazy! Eda's a pretty incredible teacher." Luz said
"What about you, Max?" Emira asked
"Oh me? I'm just hear to try and unlock a new elemental form" Max said
"Ooh. Nice" Edric say before noticing Shartok "Say, what's with this bat on your shoulder? Is he your pet?"
"I'm nobody's pet!" snapped Shartok
The Blight twins were shocked
"Did he just talk?" Emira asked
"He sure did" Max said "His name is Shartok. He's my friend. Shartok, this is Edric and Emira"
"What's up?" Shartok said as he waves at them
Just then, Eda came in with her bag filled with snowballs
"Luz! I shall now teach you how to identify different types of snow—by taste! You can try this too, Max. If you want to" Eda said she takes out a snowball "Go on, eat the snow."
As she said that, she shoves it into Luz's face. The Blight twins were confused
"Is this some kind of... special magic?" Emira asked
"Beats me. I don't know how to describe this" Max replied
"Here, Max" Eda said as she hands him a snowball
"Ahem. I don't think the Owl Lady wants to show us any of her powerful spells." Amity said as she walks away
Eda then shows that she has a lot of snowballs into her mouth. She then swallows all of them
"Oooh. Brain freeze! Brain freeze!" she yelled while clutching her head much to Luz's embarrassment
"See you around, guys. Good luck with your, uh, training." Emira said
Edric makes a snowball and attempts to lick it, but Emira slaps it out of his hand and begins to drag him away. She then stops to look at Max
"Oh and Max?" she said causing him to look at her "If you're not too busy with your training, stop by at our camp. We would definitely like to hang with you."
As she said that, Emira winked at Max causing him to blush. And with that, the twins left. Max shook of the blush when he heard Luz
"Eda! Can you please take this seriously?" she asked
"Yeah. I mean what do we gain from just eating snow?" Max asked as he drops the snowball
"You need to take me seriously. Go taste snow without my guidance, see where it gets you." Eda instructed
Luz looks downcast while Max and Shartok just looked at each other
"Don't worry, kid" Eda said ruffling Luz's hair "If you listen to me, soon you'll be doing stuff like that."
Eda then points to the Blight siblings. They watched as Amity was using her training wand to create a fireball and hurls it to destroy a tree
"And it won't be with some wack training wand, it'll be the real deal. But you have to trust me, okay?" Eda asked
"Okay, I trust you" Luz said
"Me too" Max added
"Me three" Shartok added
"But what about unlocking a new elemental form?" Max asked
"Leave that to me, Max. You just need to follow my instructions" she said
"Now then, we've covered snow, so now it's on to smelling moss." Eda said as she took out some moss "Now the trick is, you really gotta get it up in there."
As she said that, the Owl Lady shoved the moss up her nose
"That is so messed up" muttered Max as Shartok looks away in disgust
And so the training began. While Luz was following up on Eda's weird lessons, the Owl Lady herself was helping Max and Shartok with their training. She was setting up some snowmen all around the area
"Okay, Max" Eda said "I've set up these snowmen as makeshift targets for your training"
"That's pretty simple. Max can take these out no problem" Shartok said
"Yeah. All I have to do is knock all of them down" Max added stating the obvious
"True. But we're gonna focus on your earth powers first" Eda said "I remembered you told me about this quest you and Shartok went on to find a ring"
"Yes. The Ring of Concealment" Max said
"Right. Well. I also remembered you told me those other abilities you did in your earth form when you fought that stone golem" Eda said "But have you ever tried shooting rocks from your hands?"
Max blinked
"Um. No. I never tried that to be honest" he admitted
"We'll you're going to learn it now" Eda said "First thing you have to do is change into your earth form"
"Okay" Max said as he removes his gloves while Shartok flew onto the ground
Max then concentrated and then changed into his earth form
"Now. Hold out your hand form a rock" the Owl Lady instructed
Max held out his hand and closed his eyes. He begins to concentrate
"That's it, kid. Concentrate" Eda said "Try to summon a small rock. Picture it in your mind and it will appear"
Max heard her and concentrated more until a small rock appeared over his hand
"Wow" Shartok said
"Good work" Eda said "Now throw it at one of the snowman"
Max threw the rock at a snowman which knocks it's head down.
"Talk about losing his head" Shartok quipped
"Not bad" Eda said "Now try doing a large rock. As before, focus and it will appear. Once you do that, throw it at one of the snowmen"
Max begins to focus again. Holding out his hand, a large rock comes out. Max then threw the rock at a snowman which knocks it down
"I did it" he said
"Good work, pal" Shartok said
"What he said" Eda said "I'm gonna to go check on Luz. Use your new earth ability to knock all of these snowmen down"
"You got it, Eda" Max said as Eda walked away
Max then looks to the snowmen. He then summon a rock and begins to throw it at the snowman knocking it down. Max then did the same thing to the other snowmen while Shartok watched. Unbeknownst to them, Emira was watching them from behind a tree.
"Hmmm" she thought with interest
A few minutes later, Eda was guiding Luz, Max, and Shartok through the Knee.
"Now. I know my lessons seem weird, but this is what wild magic is all about. Making a connection with nature" Eda explained "The earliest witches understood that. Human witches need to understand it too. You wanna learn a new spell and unlock a new elemental form?"
"Absolutely!" Max answered
"With all my heart" Luz added
"Then you have to learn from the island" Eda said as he led the trio to two stone platform
"Now look" Eda said
The trio turn to see a view that overlooks the Titan.
"And think about what the island is trying to tell you." the Owl Lady said as she left
"I know what it's trying to tell us: What are we doing here?" Shartok said
"Quiet, Shartok. We need to focus" Max said to him
"Right. Sorry" Shartok said
The two humans then look at the island
"Alright, Luz. Look. Look with everything you've got. Focus." Luz said before speaking with her right hand "Focus? On what? On you'll be stuck in the baby class? No! Don't think like that!"
Max and Shartok turns to see Luz raise her left hand and speaks
"Face it, you'll never get a second spell following Eda's lessons. And Max is gonna leave you behind. Silence, hands!" she snapped
Shartok rotates his right hand to the side of his head to emphasize that Luz is cuckoo. Suddenly, a crash was heard which got their attention
"What was that?" Max asked
"It came from over there" Luz said as she points behind them
"Let's go check it out" Shartok said
A few minutes later, the group reached the Blight's campsite. They watched Amity destroy a pillar with her training wand
"Amity! Dinner's ready!" Emira called
"I caught a bat!" Edric added
"Edric, don't eat that." Amity scolded as she placed the training wand and book in her tent and runs off
"If I wanna be in the same class as Amity, I'm gonna need to learn magic like Amity." Luz said before speaking through her left hand "Great work, Luz!"
"Shh! I don't need your validation." she said to her left hand
"You're planning to borrow that wand are you?" Shartok asked
"Yep" Luz replied
"But what about Eda's lessons?" Max asked
"Well clearly. They're not working" Luz said "This is the only way that I can learn magic the right way"
She then heads over to the tent
"Okay then" Max said "If you need us, we'll be off training"
And with that, the duo head off
Meanwhile, Emira and Amity had confronted Edric who was holding a one eyed bat.
"Ed, give me the bat." Emira ordered
"No! If we're not gonna eat it, I wanna keep it as a pet!" Edric protested "Besides, Max has a bat for a pet."
"Shartok is not a pet" Amity said "Now hand it over"
"Never!" Edric yelled as he raced away with the bat
"Get back here before that thing bites you!" Emira yelled as she and Amity chased him
Unbeknownst to the Blight siblings, Luz had snuck over to the tent. She then picks up the wand and the book.
Amity and Emira continue to chase Edric through the Knee
"Edric, give us that bat!" Amity yelled
"No way!" Edric called back
As Emira was running after them, she heard a noise which caused her to stop chasing Edric while Amity follows after Edric. She walks over to the source of the noise and sees Max in his Pyro form shooting fireballs to melt down some snowmen while Shartok watches on a rock.
Max does a fire swipe with his hand to melt down a snowman. He then performs a fire kick by swiping his right leg on another snowman which melts it also. Max then forms two fireballs in his hands. He then combined the two fireballs into a very big one and threw it at two snowmen far from him which melts into a large puddle.
"Phew" Max said as he powers down "I think I'll stop for now"
Max then sits down on a log. Shartok flew down and sat on his left
"That was pretty good, Max. You're really getting hot with those fire abilities" Shartok said
"Thanks for that, buddy. It's all thanks to that book from the library" Max replied "Maybe I can ask Eda train me to shift from elemental form to another"
"Hi Max"
Max turned to see Emira coming up
"Emira. What are you doing here?" he asked
"Me and Amity were chasing Edric because he got a bat he wants as a pet" Emira answered "But then I noticed you training and thought I come see you"
"He wants a bat for a pet? Tell me he's not like me" Shartok said
"Not exactly" Emira answered before turning to Max "Mind if I sit with you?"
"Um sure" Max said
Emira sat next to Max on a log. Seeing this, Shartok decides to fly onto a nearby tree to give them some space.
"So. You saw me train, did you?" Max asked
"Mmmhmm. I have to admit, you were amazing, Max" Emira complimented
"Oh uh. Thanks" Max said with a blush
"By the way, I saw Eda training you on your Earth powers" Emira said
"You saw that?" Max asked in surprise
"Yep. I am curious though. How did you unlock them?" Emira asked
"Let's just say that I unlocked it when me and Luz faced the Bat Queen" Max answered
"You know the Bat Queen?!" Emira asked in surprised
"Uh huh. She had us take care of her babies for the day. Actually, Shartok did the babysitting along with Eda and King." Max explained
Emira nods her head
"Anyway, me, Luz, Willow, and Gus got left behind during a trip to see a Grudgby Game between Hexside and Glandus High. So we borrowed Eda's staff and Palisman to get there" Max explained
"Don't forget. I tagged along too" Shartok called from the tree
"Thank you, Shartok" Max said
"Wow. It's no wonder that Edric and I didn't see any of you there" Emira said "So what happened next?"
"Well, along the way, we accidentally hurt Owlbert and we fell in the forest. Owlbert flew away and we chased him until we ended up in the Bat Queen's lair" Max explained "We then encountered the Bat Queen again. She said that we have shattered Owlbert's trust and in order to regain it we need to complete three trials"
"Really. And what were those trials?"" Emira asked curiously
"First we had to milk a spider demon, then we have to get rid of a bee's nest, and finally giving the Bat Queen's babies a bath" Max explained
Emira giggled at this
"Wow. I guess all those chores were quite a handful for you guys" she asked
"You have no idea" Max replied "After we passed all the trials and regained Owlbert's trust, Bat Queen refused to let him go. She then challenged me and Luz to a battle"
Emira gasped
"Me and Shartok did our best to fight her off, but she used her wings to blow us away. Then she went after Luz. Seeing her in danger is what caused my Earth form to come out" Max said
"Yeah. You should've seen him" Shartok said as he flew down next to them "He actually form a rock fist and punched Bat Queen in the face. He even formed a rock wall and had her crashed into it"
"Oooh. Nice" Emira said amazed
"After defeating her, Owlbert convinced him to let him go back to Eda." Max said "And that's how I got my Earth form"
Emira gives Max a hug which makes him blush.
"You were so brave facing the Bat Queen, Max" Emira said before letting go
"Heh heh. Thanks" Max said as he looks away clearly flustered
Suddenly, an explosion was heard which caused Emira, Max, and Shartok to jump
"What the heck was that?!" Max asked
"Whatever that explosion is. It's coming from over there" Shartok said as he points to left
"Let's go check it out" Emira said
She and Max runs off to where the explosion is. Shartok flew onto Max's shoulder
Max, Emira, and Shartok ran through the knee until they see Luz and Eda at a cliffside .
"Luz, what happened!? Me, Emira, and Shartok just heard an explosion!" Max said
"Let's just say that I borrowed Amity's training wand and I think I accidentally caused said explosion" Luz answered
"You did what!?" Emira yelled
"I know it looks bad. But hey, at least no one got hurt" Luz said
Suddenly, they heard a roar
"You were saying?" Shartok asked
All of a sudden, a Slitherbeast leaped over the trees and lands in front of them
"You've angered the Slitherbeast" Eda pointed
The Slitherbeast roared again
"You've angered the Slitherbeast!" Eda yelled
"You already said that" Shartok said
"Will it accept a heartfelt apology?" Luz asked nervously
The Slitherbeast then sees the training wand in Luz's hand. It roars and charges at her
"I'll take that as a no" Max said as he, Emira, and Shartok got out of the way
"Watch out!" Eda shouted as pushed Luz out of the way
This caused the Slitherbeast to grab her. Eda strains as the beast was gripping her tightly
"Eda!" Luz and Max yelled
"Luz!" Amity called
She and Edric came in
"What did we miss?" Edric asked
"And what are you doing with my wand?" Amity asked as she saw Luz holding her wand and book
"Um" Luz began until Amity grabs them back and held them protectively
"Mittens, we've got bigger problems." Emira said as they all faced the Slitherbeast coming up to them with Eda still in his grasp "You know. It looks kinda cute. Can we keep him?"
"It's no bat, but we could try." Edric added
Edric and Emira used their magic and lassoed the Slitherbeast's hands. The creature growled and begins to pull on the bonds. The twins struggle to hold on
"You got it! Now finish it off!" Eda ordered
"I'm on it!" Amity yelled as she ran forward. She attempts to cast a fire spell with her wand but it fizzled out "What?"
As she attempts to smack it but sees the low battery icon on it. Amity turns to Luz
"Did you use this all up?" she asked angrily
"I... I didn't know!" Luz replied
Max and Shartok face palms at this
"Come on, Luz!" Emira yelled
"Do those powerful spells you were talking about!" Edric added
"But I don't actually... know any." Luz confessed sadly
The Slitherbeast frees it's hands and yanks the Blight twins into the snow
"Edric! Emira!" Amity and Max yelled
The Slitherbeast then grabs the twins and placed them in it's other hand holding Eda. The Slitherbeast then begins to scamper away. Seeing them in danger, Max narrows his eyes and changed into his electric form. Just as the Slitherbeast still carried the twins and Eda through the snow. Max and Shartok zips in front of it
"Hey! Put them down you overgrown winter coat!" Max demanded
"If it's not too much trouble that is" Shartok added nervously
"Max!" the twins yelled
"Kid!" Eda yelled
The Slitherbeast roared and attacks them, but Max leaped out of the way
"Okay. You ask for it!" Max yelled
He then shoots lightning at the Slitherbeast. The creature dodged it while narrowly hitting Eda and the twins
"Whoa! Careful kid. You almost hit us." the Owl Lady said
"Sorry" Max said "Let's see what else I can do"
He then brought his hands together and electricity forms. It then became an electric ball
"Catch!" he yelled as he threw it
The electric ball came in contact with the Slitherbeast which zaps it. It growled and then swipes at Max which sends him and Shartok flying and skidding on the snow causing Emira to gasp. Max growled and runs up to the Slitherbeast. He then delivered several electric punches towards the creature, but the Slitherbeast grabbed him and throws him making hit a tree near a cliff while Shartok fell off his back. Max powered down as he impacted the tree.
"Max!" Eda, Emira and Edric yelled
Suddenly, the tree breaks and fell off a cliff, taking Max with it
"Aaaaaaagggh!" screamed Max as he fell
"No!" Emira cried as she saw him fall
"Buddy!" Shartok yelled
He tries to fly after him, but the Slitherbeast grabbed him and continues on it's way
Down at the cliff, Max was lying unconscious in the snow while the tree was next to him. After a few hours later, Max regained consciousness and sat up
"Oh. My head" he said as he slowly stands up "It's a good thing the snow is soft or I would have gotten really hurt"
He then remembered something
"Shartok! Eda! Emira! Edric!" Max yelled "They're in trouble!"
The boy slowly got up while dusting the snow off of him. He then looks up at the cliff
"I gotta get back up there" he said "But how?"
Max began to pace around while thinking of a way how to get out of here
'I could use my fire or electric powers, but I don't think they can really help' he thought 'And I don't think my earth powers would be enough either'
The human boy continue to pace until he stops and remembered something
'Wait. What did Eda say earlier?' Max thought as he begins to recall what Eda had said
'I know my lessons seem weird, but this is what wild magic is all about. Making a connection with nature. The earliest witches understood that. Human witches need to understand it too.'
"Of course. That's what Eda was trying to teach us. In order for me to unlock a new power I have to make a connection with nature." Max realized "Cause after all: Magic is everywhere in the Boiling Isles"
The boy then removed his gloves. He kneels down and placed his hands on the snow
'Okay. I gotta focus. Clear my mind. Don't think about anything else. Just think about what the island was telling you' he thought
Max closed his eyes and begins to concentrate. His mind began to envision the snow and then the island. He continued to focused for a few more minutes. Max then envisioned some snowflakes falling, some icicles, and the island again. Then, something inside him clicked. He opens his eyes which glowed light blue. Suddenly, his skin turned light blue and became ice-like. Max then stood up and looked at himself
"It worked. I unlocked a new form!" he said "Ice form"
Max then looked up
"Let's see what I can do" he said with a determined look
Max held out his right hand which became charged ice magic. He then threw it at the ground. Then he moves his hands around to manipulate the magic to form some ice stairs.
"Cool" he said
Max then climbed up the ice steps
Once he got back up on the cliff, Max powered down and sets down on the path to look for the Slitherbeast
"Max?"
He turns around and sees Luz running up to him
"Luz? What are you doing here?" Max asked
"Rescuing Eda and the twins". Luz replied "What about you?"
"I'm saving them too. Plus the Slitherbeast has Shartok. I don't want them to be it's dinner" Max said
"Then let's save them together" Luz said
They then walk through the knee
"By the way, Max. What happened to you?" Luz asked
"Let's just say that I fell off a cliff while fighting the Slitherbeast and unlocked a new power while I was down there" Max answered "What about you?"
"Amity trapped me in a barrier for my own safety. But while there, I learned a second spell. Watch" Luz said
She stops which also causes Max to stop also. She then draws a symbol on the snow and hits it to form ice
"Nice" Max said "Congratulations, Luz"
"Thanks buddy" Luz said "Now let's save our friends"
They continue walking through the snow until they see a cave
"That must be where the Slitherbeast lives" Max said "I'll go check it out. You stay here"
"What if the Slitherbeast sees you?" Luz asked
"Don't worry. It won't see me if I wear this" Max said as he took out the Ring of Concealment
"A ring?" Luz asked
"Not just any ring. The Ring of Concealment" Max replied "The one that I told you about"
"Oh. That's what it looks like?" Luz asked
"Yep. Wish me luck" Max said
He then puts the ring on to turn invisible. Max then went inside the cave. Inside the cave, the Slitherbeast brought the twins, Eda, and Shartok over and spits purple goo on the wall. It then sticks them on it
"Eeew!" Shartok said in disgust
The Slitherbeast then scampers off
"I never thought this is how my life would go down. Being eaten by a Slitherbeast" Shartok said
"Don't worry. We'll be fine!" Emira said hopefully
Some skeletons drops in front of them
"No, we're gonna die." Edric said
Emira then looks down with tears in her eyes
"What's wrong, Em?" Edric asked
"I'm just sad that Max is gone" Emira said sadly
"Hey I'm sure he'll be fine. He's always managed to come out okay during the adventures we had" Shartok said
"Psst. Guys. Over here"
Their eyes widened when they heard this
"Who's there?" Eda asked as she looked around
Max removes the ring to make himself visible in front of them
"Surprise"
"Max!" Eda, Shartok, and Emira cried in happiness
"You're alive!" Edric added
"But how?" Eda asked
Max smirked as he changed into his ice form. They gasped
"You unlocked a new form" Shartok said
"Yep. It was all thanks Eda's teaching" Max replied as he powers down
"That's great, kid. Now get out of here. I'm just gonna sneak away when the thing starts eating the twins and Shartok." Eda said
"Wait what?" Emira asked while Edric lets out an offended gasp
"Hey!" Shartok yelled
"No one is getting eaten. But don't worry. Luz and I will think of something" Max said "For the time being. Just stick around"
"Very funny" Shartok said sarcastically
Max puts the ring back on to turn invisible again and heads to the exit while avoiding the Slitherbeast
"Well at least we know he's okay" Edric said
Making his way outside, Max removes the ring to become visible and meets back with Luz.
"Well?" she asked
"The guys are okay. But we're gonna need to come up with a plan to save them" Max said
"Guys?"
They turn to see Amity coming up to them
"Amity. Nice of you to join us" Max said
"You too, Max." Amity said before turning to Luz "How did you get past the barrier, Luz?"
"Magic! Literally! Now, forget that, because we're gonna have to work together if we want to save everyone. Okay, here's what we're gonna do." Luz said as she brought Amity and Max into a huddle and begin to whispher her plan
Back in the Slitherbeast's lair, the creature was sprinkling its captured victims with garlic. Eda sneezes from it
"Gesundheit" Shartok said
"Thanks. Ugh, I hate garlic." the Owl Lady said
Suddenly, an ice spike hits the Slitherbeast from behind
"Hey you big idiot!" Luz called
The Slitherbeast turn to see Luz and Max in his Ice form
"Pick on someone your own size!" Max yelled
The Slitherbeast growls and begins to chase them. With the creature distracted, Amity climbed up to her captured siblings, Eda, and Shartok
"Amity!" Edric said
"Use that fire spell we taught you!" Emira advised
"But I can't do it without the wand!" Amity said sadly
"Yes, you can. Just focus." Emira reassured her
"Okay" Amity said as she slowly traces a spell circle. She concentrates and forms a pink fireball. Amity smiles proudly
"Now that's hot" Shartok said
"Cool. I didn't think you could actually do it." Emira said
Amity then uses the fireball to free Eda, Shartok, and the twins
"Nice work" Shartok said
"Thank you, Shartok" Amity said
They heard Luz screaming
"Luz!" Amity cried
"We gotta help Max too" Shartok said
Luz was being chased out the cave by the Slitherbeast. Luz then got to a tree. Just as the Slitherbeast crept towards her
"Freeze sucka!"
The Slitherbeast turns to see Max. Max then uses his powers to freeze the Slitherbeasts front feet and it's head.
"Let er rip, Luz!" he said
"Gotcha!" she replied
She stomps on a huge ice glyph and ducks away. The ice pillar then forms from the glyph and sends the Slitherbeast flying. Max leaps out of the way just as the Slitherbeast fell. The creature then hits the ground while the ice on it's head and front feet breaks.
Just then Eda, Shartok, the Blight twins, and Amity raced out of the cave just in time to see the Slitherbeast get back up and lunge at them
"You want me to teach you kids something cool?" the Owl Lady asked
"Yes!" Emira and Amity yelled
"Yes please!" Edric yelled at the same time
"Do it Eda!" Shartok said
Eda with Shartok on her shoulder raced towards the Slitherbeast. She then drew a large spell circle and hurls it at the Slitherbeast
"Sleep Spell!" she said
The circle passes through the creature making it fall asleep
"And just to make sure" Max said
He then shoots some ice magic and forms an ice cage around the sleeping Slitherbeast. He then powers down
"There. That oughta hold it for a while" he said
"Buddy!" Shartok said as he flew on to his friend's shoulder
"Good to have you back, Shartok" Max said
"Now that's my mentor!" Luz said as she ran up to Eda "Did you see? I learned my second spell! I made the connection!"
"I saw" Eda said as she ruffled Luz's hair "Nice work, kiddo. Especially you, Max"
"Thanks, Owl Lady" Max said
"You showed some real bravery in there, sis." Emira said to Amity
"Yeah, nice work, kiddo." Edric said as he ruffled her hair
"Stop!" Amity said as she stops his hand and fixed her hair. She then walks over to Luz, Max, and Shartok. "So it looks like we'll be in the same class."
"You said it" Max said
"Azura Book Club? Azura Book Club?!" Luz yelled hopefully
"As long as it's a secret club, okay?" Amity whispered with a blush
"It's not a secret!" Edric called
"We're gonna tell everyone!" Emira added
This caused Amity to sigh in disappointment. Eda then sneezes which cause them to jump
"Alright, your adorable banter is literally making me sick." she said
"Or is it because of the garlic?" Shartok asked with a smirk
"Ugh. Let's just go home already" Eda said
"On it teach!" Luz said
Just then, Emira runs up to Max and hugs him from behind. This catches him by surprise
"Oh" he said
"I'm just so glad that you're okay, Max." Emira said
"Yeah. Me too, Em" Max said with a blush as she lets go "I guess I'll see you at school"
"We'll be waiting" Emira said with a wink
Luz then drew the ice glyph from under Eda, Max and herself
"Um. Is this safe?" asked Shartok
"I think so, buddy" Max replied
Luz then activates the glyph and a diagonal ice pillar sends them flying into the air. They cheer as they did that while the one eyed bat screamed and hanged on for dear life. The Blights watches this. Emira couldn't help but smile at Max
"I knew it! You really do have a crush on Max. Do you Emira?" Edric asked
"I think I do" Emira replied with a blush "Anyway. I think we can go the normal way."
And with that the Blight siblings walk off
Arriving back at the Owl House. Eda, Luz, Max, and Shartok opened the door to see the place filled with stuffing. King and Hooty were in the middle of it
"Private" King said as he hugged Hooty "Our hearts have been touched by fire, and—
"Ahem" Eda cleared her throat "What the heck did you two get into?"
"Um, excuse me? We're having a moment here!" King yelled
"You'll never understand what we've been through together! Never! Never!" Hooty yelled
"Whatever it is you two are doing, I don't want to know" Max said "Come on, Shartok. Let's go take a shower"
"Agreed. I still feel cold" Shartok said
The duo then walked around them and head upstairs
