Hey everyone, merry belated Christmas!

Boy or Girl?
Toothiana threaded lightly through the house, carefully avoiding that floorboard in the hallway that creaked enough to raise the dead.
With a hand over her growing belly and an spontaneous need for toast and pickles (conveniently united with some delicious peanut butter), she entered the kitchen of her small apartment.
While preparing her midnight (or more like very early morning) snack, she went over the events of her Monday. Get up, eat breakfast and throw up said breakfast because the smell of coffee suddenly made her feel sick, go to the clinic she worked as a practitioner. All these part of a routine that did nothing to distract her mind from her appointment that afternoon.
At 3 pm she was at a waiting room next to her boyfriend to get her ultrasound done and finally know the sex of the baby she was carrying.
Burrito, which had been the name their friend Jack had christened the fetus when shown the picture of their second ultrasound to their friends (and eventually it just grew on them), had come as a complete surprise. She had started her practice on an orthodontics clinic barely six months ago (being new in the clinic involved sometimes being scheduled in ridiculous shifts) and Bunny was busier than ever since the bakery was on high demand due to the holiday season. To be honest, she had to congratulate her and Bunny for being able to squeeze any other of extracurricular activity into their lives.
But here was the question, Burrito had yet remained uncooperative to stay in an adequate position to provide a clear profile picture so when the second ultrasound was done, it was impossible to know the gender of the child.
"They are just camera shy." Her ob-gyn quipped, assuring that they would do another ultrasound when it was certain that the baby had changed position in a few weeks later.
And if the way it keep Toothiana wake up at night and all the kicks she received when she laid on her side were something to go by, Burrito seemed more active than ever.
When they entered the room, they were greeted by the very nice doctor and she quickly prepared the young mother to finally see the elusive baby on the screen.
Toothiana was nervous. Of course, she was. She was going to be a mother, there was another human being growing inside her. Being nervous innately came with the entire package.
Would she be a good mother for their son or daughter? Could she handle the pressure of having a career and a family? Could Bunny and she as a couple handle it?
But all those questions were put on mute when the picture on the screen appeared. It always happened with every ultrasound. Seeing her child instantly filled her with a sense of peace and that everything would be alright in the end.
She loved that baby already with all her heart.
"Miss Singh…" A voice called her out of her stupor.
"Yes?"
"The third time is the charm."She pointed at the screen. "The baby's legs are now in a position where we can see the body and the umbilical cord is not in the way. Looks like you two are having a girl."
"Do you think it will be a girl or a boy?"
"Sheila, as long as you two are healthy and happy, it doesn't matter."
"But would you rather it be a boy?"
"Well I wouldn't mind not being the only guy among your aunties and cousins every time we go visit. I would feel less swarmed." He chuckled at the memory of Tooth's five aunts and loads of female cousins all running around him and tugging on him and his girlfriend's grandma pinching his cheek.
It had been a subject that had appeared before.
Most of their friends thought it would be a boy, especially North who sounded a tid bit disappointed over the phone. "Now it can't be Nicholas Jr."
The couple both laughed. "That was never even an option North."
The Russian soon was laughing along and congratulating the couple for the good news.
Even Tooth's family had sided to a boy and those with a more traditional perspective looked disappointed for a moment and shook their heads, quickly saying that now the flock of yapping birds would never stop with another girl, comment that earned the complain of some of Tooth's cousins and aunties (for they were often compared said way). But it was more than that; the elder members of the family had had a different upbringing than her, so even if they didn't say it out loud, they could not deny that their values were different to Tooth's. Her grandmother, uncles and some of her aunts still thought of males as in a more elevated status than females.
And although their views in certain topics varied with hers, she accepted them and loved them all the same. And luckily their love for her was greater than their beliefs. That was why they had eventually accepted Bunnymund among them and why this child was welcomed despite the couple not being married yet.
That was why Tooth's love for her family couldn't be greater.
She felt her eyes get watery as she munched down her snack.
Damn pregnancy hormones. She was tired of being always over emotional. She thought that bursting into tears because she couldn't grab her lunchbox on top of the fridge, even when the kitchen chairs were just right besides her and she was more than able to reach it, had been a new low. That time Bunny found her crying her eyes out on the middle of the kitchen and froze (he certainly knew that an emotionally pregnant lady was not to be trifled with). Even when she screamed at him for no real reason and even threw a fork at him, he quietly crossed the kitchen, took the lunchbox to only place it beside her, and hugged her tightly.
God, he was the sweetest.
But peace was quickly substituted by a new more worrisome thought.
What if Bunny didn't want a girl?
He said that he wouldn't mind as long as the baby was healthy. But her family and friends had all leaned towards as the child being male and despite how much they all loved and supported them she couldn't help but fret that this baby girl might not be as well received as a boy would be.
Again, she knew these thoughts were ridiculous. But…What if…?
A faint light she hadn't noticed before caught her attention and guided her steps into the living room.
Bunny was there, sound asleep and quietly snoring. He was sprawled on the couch, head tilted back and nose even twitching a little once or twice. The light came from the computer on his lap. He was wearing headphones, so the room stayed silent.
He had arrived late that day and he always took care of the accounting after dinner. It seemed that this time it took the better of him.
She walked to him, carefully placing the computer and headphones on the coffee table. Tooth replaced the blanket around him, yet he still was asleep.
It had been a tiring day for everyone. After receiving the news, she had immediately started tearing up while feeling her boyfriend's hand on the back of her neck and his fingers knotting in her short and colorful hair. He leaned closer, resting his cheek on top of her head.
"Wow." He whispered.
After that they told everyone and the phones rang nonstop with everyone congratulating them and of course they still had work. There was barely any time to talk about it between them.
Gosh, they hadn't even decided on a name. They couldn't keep on calling her Burrito for the rest of her life (although Jack had already declared that that was her nickname for life).
Curiosity got the better of her and she peaked at the screen.
Her eyes grew wide to then turn teary once more.
He was watching tutorial videos on how to do braids.
Her heart swelled with so much affection that she could barely contain it. He was going to be a great dad for their little girl.
Toothiana closed the laptop and quietly went back to bed, her hand resting once again on her belly and with her doubts finally at ease.
Everything would be alright.
Hope you liked this litle piece of fluff, I hope you enjoy the rest of your holidays and wish you all a happy new year.
Dont forget to R&R! :D
