Women of Wonder
By Michael Weyer
Some may surprised an update already but Black Adam inspired a bit for this to get it out earlier and also inspired by how it seems won't continue so a bit more free for some ideas to use for this.
Also it's best to read Temporal Tete-a-Tete in order to grasp some changes to this world and timeline.
Earth-9
San Francisco
Ten minutes ago
The Tower was still in its renovation phase but coming along nicely, Donna Troy had to admit. She walked the halls, passing a couple of workers and nodding to them. She knew she was a sight in her usual costume but didn't mind the stares. When one comes back to life, twice, a few turned heads didn't bother one. At least she had something more important to focus on here.
She paused before the room and knocked on the door. "Rachel? You up for visitors?"
"Come in." Donna opened the door to see Rachel Roth sitting cross-legged on the floor. She was clad in her usual outfit of a dark blue cloak covering her body which was in a matching color. The young woman had become darker than usual in the last few weeks, adjusting her costume to matching darker colors and even her skin looking paler than usual which offset the red gem on her brow.
"Hey," Donna said as she saw Raven sitting in some sort of symbol painted onto the floor. She also had to note how cold and sparse the room was with candles lit but not as much in personal items. "I just...had to check in. See how you are."
"I'm coping," Raven said in a flat tone, minus the sardonic edge Donna had come to know. "Like many in the world."
Donna bit her lip, trying to figure out what to say. Raven had already been on edge after the messes involving Connor and Trigon and other threats. Then, just as the Titans seemed to be recovering from all that, the Dusting had hit, taking out Donna, Connor, Gar and Kori.
It had been more than a bit disconcerting for Donna to feel herself turned to dust and stuck in some strange "soul world." A lot of it was hazy although she could swear she saw someone a lot like her milling about the countless people in that strange realm. Thankfully it wasn't for long but it still was an experience that haunted her.
From what Dick had told her, Raven had been hit hard, the deaths of so many people around the world, including several friends, weight on her. Even after they were restored, the trauma seemed to affect her, making her withdraw into herself. And given what happened the last time she'd been pushed like that, it was little wonder Donna was concerned.
"I'm not falling into darkness." Once more, Donna winced at how she forgot she was dealing with an empath. Raven was focusing her yellow eyes on her. "I know what you all think, Donna. And yes, I do feel the weight of the last few months but that doesn't mean I'll succumb to it."
"I don't think you would," Donna quickly assured her. "It's just...I've touched darkness too. And I know no matter how well you come out of it, part of it always remains."
Raven was silent as Donna carefully stepped forward. "We're here for you, Rachel. I spent too often trying to drive folks off after I came back. Both times. So I know it's not healthy." She knelt down to face the younger woman. "I just want you to know, if you ever feel the need to talk...I'm here."
Rachel was quiet as she took in Donna's words. She was opening her mouth to speak when a shaking came over the Tower. Both women frowned, somehow knowing this wasn't the standard earthquake.
Raven's eyes were widening as she sensed an energy in the air. She rose up, shadows flowing around her to gather her power. Donna also rose to her feet, ready to move when a blast of light filled the room. A wildly dressed woman with purple hair emerged from a portal, grinning as she saw Raven. "And there you are..."
She threw out a hand, a tendril of purple energy washing over Raven and pulling her to the portal. She screamed, trying to fight back but it was no use. Before Donna could do anything, she was pulled into the waiting opening.
With only a moment's hesitation, Donna leapt forward, jumping into the portal just before it closed. She screamed as she felt the energies pound at her, but held herself strong. She felt a tugging, as if somehow, someone was calling out to her.
And with another loud flash, she landed hard on a table surrounded by a score of costumed figures.
Earth-51, Now
Diana blinked at the newcomer in the costume and lasso she found rather familiar. "So, you're from a world where I'm your mentor?"
Donna nodded, having finished her story. "Yep. Not like that in your world?"
"On mine, Donna is my sister," Diana replied.
Donna's eyes widened in that. "Wow, really? Here, you rescued me as a child and, well, I sort of fell into the whole Amazon thing from there."
Prince chuckled. "It's a lot harder getting to my Paradise Island."
"I never got that name," Diana mused. "Hardly a paradise when things got rough."
"Rolls off the tongue a lot better," Jamie had to point out with Prince conceding the point.
Donna looked around the group, her eyes falling on Superman. "So we have a you..." She looked to Batman. "Oh boy, do we have a you although you seem a bit younger than our Batman."
He grunted. "You're telling me I live longer? That's hard to believe."
"Yeah, Dick says the same."
Batman froze as he stared at her. "Dick…Grayson?" His voice was low and, for once, filled with some emotion.
Donna frowned back. "Yes, you know him here?"
Batman's jaw tightened to let Donna know this wasn't a good story. Swallowing, she decided changing the subject quickly was the best course of action. "Okay, so, um, if I'm here, stands to reason so is Raven and I need to get her back."
"Especially if she's tied in with Circe," Diana said. "Any reason why they'd grab her?'
Donna took a deep breath. "She's Trigon's daughter." As expected, she got a few shocked looks before speaking quickly. "She rebelled against him, stopped him from nearly ending our world. However, we do worry about her, how much of an influence he could have." She shivered. "And if she's in the hands of some witch using her to get at him…"
"It makes sense," Diana mused. "Get someone with a connection in blood is the best way to call Trigon here."
Wonder Woman was going through a variety of texts before her, flipping through the volumes. "It can't be just that, however. A demonic summoning requires a lot of power, more than Circe along could provide."
"So she's looking for a boost," Zatanna mused, grasping where Wonder Woman was going. "Maybe from another demonic force?"
"Which, sadly, are more plentiful than humans know," Wonder Woman confirmed. She paused at an entry, frowning. "Wait…this one…" She placed the volume down, letting everyone get a good look at the hideous figure resembling a classic image of the Devil, complete with flames flowing from his body.
"What the hell?" the Flash gasped.
"You're dead right on that," Constantine muttered. "Sabbac. A demonic force created by six of the lords of Hell. They bestowed it upon some miserable person, making them into a monster. It's been defeated before somehow finds a way back. Last time was centuries ago, though…"
"It's been kept prison with its crown," Wonder Woman stated. She paused before sighing. "Which was last seen in…Kahndaq."
Every member of the Justice League winced at the word. "Ah, geez, tell me we don't have to deal with that Adam lunatic again," the Flash half-begged.
Wonder Woman sighed. "We may have to. Because if Circe tries to fight Adam, the conflict could be huge."
"Call in the Marvels?" Green Lantern suggested.
"Already tried," Cyborg said. "They're on….I can't believe I'm saying this…a camping trip, out of main contact."
Aquaman rolled his eyes. "It figures. The only super-group held up on kid responsibilities."
"A shame. They had a better connection to Adam then we do," Wonder Woman stated. She paused and reached to a communicator on the main console. "However…I think I know someone we can call upon for some aid."
She pressed some buttons, allowing a buzzing to fill the loudspeakers. After a pause, a strong male voice answered. "That you, Princess?"
"It's been a while, Carter," Wonder Woman replied with a light smile on her face. "I'd ask if you're staying out of trouble but I know you too well."
The man called Carter chuckled. "Yeah, you do. Although I had a different attitude back then. But guess not a social call?'
"Sadly, no. We can use some backup in a very tough situation. If you're willing."
"Hey, once JSA, always JSA, you know that, Princess. I can get a team together fast. We got a destination?"
"Kahndaq."
There was a silence before Carter sighed. "I really hoped it wouldn't be that. Fine, talk to you soon."
As the line went silent, Wonder Woman smiled to the inquisitive Diana. "I'm guessing your world didn't have a Justice Society?"
Diana shook her head. "No, but I can tell this is an interesting story."
"Tell it on the way," Batman grunted. "We have to get to Kahndaq before things get too nasty."
"I'm guessing they will no matter what," the Flash remarked and for once no one was debating him.
Kahndaq
The afternoon sun was beating down on the nation yet oddly wasn't as hot as one might expect. The city was showing signs of great improvement, mostly thanks to how the treasury was no longer being channeled into keeping a dictator in luxury. There were new businesses and even an influx of residents.
More importantly, there was hope in the air, a hope many in the city had never known before. They welcomed it, knowing that they now had a ruler who truly cared for protecting them, however they worked.
It was a far cry from the life Adrianna Tomaz had known until now. The attractive woman with long black hair studied the dig site in the middle of the city with interest. Clad in simple denim slacks and a muscle shirt under her jacket, she was a far cry from the woman who'd been trying to lead a rebellion against the former regime. She'd gone back to her first love, archelogy, and was more than grateful for the aid around her. Even the ones she didn't want there at first.
"I really don't get why I can't go to the camp," Amon was complaining. The young boy could be older than his years but still Adrianna's son and so she was used to his mild tantrums. He crossed his arms as he watched his mother standing on the scaffolding overseeing the large dig site before her. "Why are we here again?'
"We are here because I am attempting to find more of Kahndq's past that our former ruler…may he burn in hell…was attempting to destroy," Adrianna said in her lush accented voice. "You are here because I can't trust you not to cause more trouble on your own."
Amon rolled his eyes. "It was one skipped class, mom. I mean, it's not like school was a big deal before."
"Before, I had more concerns than your education," Adrianna admitted. "Now that we have a future, I want to ensure you can utilize yours properly."
Amon sighed. "Fine, fine…you could at least have let me play my games here."
Adrianna sighed. "I knew letting your uncle set up wireless here was a mistake." She glanced to where her brother was working on a console, the heavyset man giving her a friendly wave.
"It's just so boring," Amon whined. "I want something exciting, something…" His voice trailed off as his eyes widened. Turning, Adrianna saw a figure hovering before them. His costume was a bit lighter than before yet still bold in darkness with the glimmering lightning bolt across his chest. A short cape floated behind him, the sun beating down on his bald head with strong but almost regal features.
The man raised an eyebrow. "Dr. Topaz," he said in that powerful and booming voice. "I trust the dig is going well?"
Adrianna nodded. Unlike others, her reaction to Black Adam was not awe or fear or any combination of that. It was respect but Adrianna had learned a long time ago not to simply cower before anyone. Not even someone capable of breaking her in half without even trying. "It is. I want to thank you again for allowing us to do this."
Adam nodded. "Kahndaq's past was a glorious time once. It deserves to be revealed once more."
Adrianna was quiet for a moment and Adam cocked his head. "You do not agree."
"I know our past has its darker moments," she replied. Her eyes narrowed. "Many caused by you."
"Mooooooom…." Amon hissed. "Don't insult him!" The boy's near worship of his nation's protector had been a bone of contention with Adrianna since Adam took power and having him so close was adding to it.
Adam smirked slightly at the boy as he looked to Adrianna. "You don't enjoy my rule? It seems better than the last several."
"So far," Adrianna intoned. "How long until you put yourself above us all?"
"I would not do that."
Adrianna stared before waving a hand. "You are literally levitating over me."
Adam raised the eyebrow once more before floating down to face her. "Better?"
"A bit," she acknowledged before turning back to the dig site. She hoped doing so would hide the involuntary flush filling her cheeks at Adam being so close to her. She could feel a bit of glowering from him at literally turning her back to him but he managed to calm himself. "There is much about this area that remains a mystery. I am hoping to shed some light on it."
"There were secrets in the past best remained buried."
"Like you?"
That damnable eyebrow raised again. "I seek to restore our nation to its former glory. To help the people here, like yourself."
"We could fight on our own," Adrianna snapped. "I know of legacies." She pointed at the medallion around her neck. "This has been passed down in my family for more centuries than we can remember. It was said to belong to a powerful sect of some sort..."
"It did." His words surprised her as Adam studied the locket. "I was not a scholar but I heard stories...stories of a powerful force that defended a distant land." He shrugged. "I do not know more of the details but I am open to believing them more than I once would have."
Adrianna took his words in before speaking again. "Nevertheless, I know of the power this land has. And the secrets, which the world deserves to know of." Her eyes narrowed. "If that includes yours, so be it."
Adam's frown was deep yet he still felt a growing respect and even admiration for this feisty woman. "Some secrets...are not worth bringing into the light." The way he spoke those words, with what sounded like true regret, enticed Adrianna's interest but she was wary of pressing further.
Before she could speak, Adam's head jerked around, as if sensing something unusual. He turned in time to see a cloud of smoke appear before him. Emerging from it was a gorgeous woman with dark purple hair in an outlandish outfit with several other women marching behind her. All were heavily armed from automatic weapons to spears with a young woman in a blue costume of some kind marching behind them al. Adam's eyes narrowed as he took the woman in. "You remind me of a woman who attempted to use me."
"A weaker version," Circe hissed. "I will make this short and simple, Teth-Adam. Give me the Crown of Sabbac and I shall take my leave with as minimum a fuss as possible."
Adam's eyes narrowed. "If I knew where the Crown was, I would have destroyed it long ago. I know the power of that first-hand and will never allow it to be used."
Circe smirked. "Hmmm...you would, at that. But no matter. I know it's here. And if I need to raze this nation to the lower Earth to find it, I will."
"Not while I stand." Adam threw out his hand, unleashing a blast of lightning at the figures. Most of the women scattered except for Circe, who created a shield to catch the lightning. She sent some of it back with Adam flying out of its path.
Adrianna moved quickly to Amon, picking the boy up as he yelled. She raced over toward her brother and handed the boy over. "Here, get him home, fast!" Knowing better than to argue with her, Karim took Amon and began running off.
As Adrianna whirled around, she saw a cat-like figure land in front of her. Cheetah's nose wrinkled as she took in the woman. "You...you're hiding something, aren't you?" She smiled wickedly, showing her fangs. "Like maybe something you found before?"
The eyes widening was all the answer she needed as Cheetah lunged at Adrianna. The woman dodged before Cheetah tried to grab at her again. Before she could, a blast of light echoed around them as a figure in a blue and golden suit with a golden cape and a helmet covering his head appeared before her. He waved his hands, sending a wave of energy to knock the Cheetah away.
As Doctor Fate turned to Adrianna, he stiffened. He lifted up his helmet, showing the handsome features of Kent Nelson, his face marked by a white beard. "You have the Crown of Sabbac," he hissed. "You must give to me at once!"
As she would with anyone from outside Kahnduq demanding something of her, Adrianna simply turned and began running off. Before Fate could follow, Circe unleashed a blast of magic Adam ducked. The bolt went flying at a nearby building, causing debris to fall to the crowd below. Fate threw out a hand, creating a shield protecting the civilians below.
Kazim moaned as he held Amon close to him. "Oh, God, oh, God, we're going to die!"
Nelson smiled gently. "Don't worry. You die another day." He slipped his helmet back on and floated upward to where Circe and Adam were beginning to fight it out in the skies.
A roar of jet engines echoed over the city as a massive craft shaped like a bird flew overhead. From a hatch plummeted a dark-skinned man in what looked like a suit of red and golden armor. As he fell, from his back extended a pair of massive metallic wings, allowing him to glide down toward the ground. Landing, Carter Hall aka Hawkman, retracted his wings as he took in the battle before him.
Another figure leapt from the craft, notable for her white leotard costume covering her buxom body with bare legs, blue gloves and a red cape flowing behind her. She landed on the ground, rising to show her attractive face framed by short blonde hair and the costume notable for a small "window" just above her rather ample chest.
Glaring at the women before her, Karen Starr, better known as Power Girl, crossed her arms. "One chance, ladies. Give it up now or otherwise, I got no problem beating you all down."
Knocking Black Adam back, Circe saw the newcomer and raised her arms, allowing energy to rake across the ground. There was a long pause before a boned hand burst out of the ground, followed by another and another. Pulling up from the dirt came figures in armor, mostly skeleton but enough flesh upon them to show they had once been human. Several wielded swords, spears and other ancient weapons as they began moving at both the heroes and the terrified locals.
Circe smirked. "Raising the dead of this land. It's an oldie but a goodie." She grinned at Adam. "But with a boost..." She snapped her fingers as another wave of energy washed over the skeletal figures as their eyes gleamed and their bodies began building up in size. With inhuman howls, they charged at Power Girl, who realized this was going to be trickier than she thought.
Another figure fell from the ship, clad in a blue and red costume with an atomic design on his chest and a mask covering his entire head. As he fell, he began growing in size, standing nearly forty feet tall by the time he landed hard on the ground. Al Rosenstein aka Atom-Smasher was soon kicking at a wave of warriors to aid Power Girl.
Black Adam went on the attack to blast Circe with a punch. She fired off another bolt of energy he dodged before smirking. "As much as I'd love to waste time with you, I have a crown to find." She slapped her hand together to send a blast to the side, tearing into a nearby building. The top floors began to come apart and send debris at the people below.
Cursing, Adam flew downward, racing to grab the section of the falling building. He grunted as he strained to lift it up. Suddenly, it felt lighter and he turned his head to see Superman floating by him, also holding the building up with a nod. "Thought you could use a hand."
Adam glared but nodded. The two pushed the wall upward, carefully putting it back into place. Below, Wonder Woman was already moving to aid Power Girl with the undead hordes, slashing her sword to knock them down. Diana and Prince were at her side, their trio of golden lassos flowing about to knock enemies away.
Green Lantern was flying upward when he caught another green glow next to him. He turned to see a woman in a mostly white costume with green tinges floating next to him. It matched her green skin and hair that billowed around her as she offered a small smile. "Um, hi," she said in a friendly tone. "Name's Jade."
Green Lantern blinked. "Ah...you're not..."
"One of the Corps? No. Alan Scott was my grandfather and, well, seems it got passed down a bit." Green Lantern nodded, knowing of the original hero with that moniker back in World War II. Jade joined him as they floated toward Circe, firing beams of emerald light at the sorceress.
Circe cursed as she threw out her hands, sending bolts of energy at the JSA members. There was a red and gold blur as the Flash sped around to get as many civilians as he could out the way of the battle. While nowhere near his speed, Jamie was doing her best as well racing people away.
Adrianna ducked a blast as Circe focused her energies on her. "Get the crown!" she yelled. Several of the skeletons broke from the pack to race right toward Adrianna, who began running off. Doctor Fate put his helmet back on, moving his hands to create a shield in between them and their pursuers.
Adrianna was ducking around a corner when a blast of dark energy knocked her away. She gasped, clutching at her chest as a figure in a dark cloak came toward her. There was a blur as Donna landed to defend Adrianna, her eyes widening as she saw the woman before her. "Raven?"
In answer, the younger woman threw out a hand with Donna barely able to hold up her gauntlets to block the blow. Donna hissed, seeing the blank glow in Raven's eyes to know she wasn't in control of herself. She was moving a hand to her lasso before another bolt singed her, sending her stumbling back.
Adrianna was rising up as a blast ripped at the building over their heads. Donna saw it crumbling and hissed, throwing herself onto Adrianna. In a blur, Raven had grabbed the bag and pulled the cloak around herself to vanish. Donna was too busy trying to cover Adrianna only to be shocked the woman squirmed out of her grasp to try and chase where Raven had gone. She'd only moved a few steps before one of the skeleton creatures threw out a spear, stabbing her in the side.
Adrianna hissed as she grabbed her side, wincing in pain. There was a blur as Adam flew down, smashing the skeleton to fragments of bone with a punch. He looked to Adrianna, cursing as he tended to her. "The wound...is deep."
"Your bluntness...isn't as charming...as you think..." Adrianna spat with gritted teeth as she clutched her wound.
Adam held his hand to it, a burst of lightning trying to cauterize the wound. Adrianna hissed but a little more pain wasn't bad compared to what she was going through. A blur caught her attention and she saw Aresia charging forward, punching Adam away. He grunted as they continued to fight with Circe flying downward to throw another blast of energy at the wall over Adrianna.
Adam snarled as he flew up at Circe. "You come to my home, attack my people...There will not be enough left of you to fill a food dish."
Circe smirked at him. "Such a flatterer." She struck him with another bolt of magic to drive him back.
Adrianna's eyes fluttered as she clutched the pendant. Maybe it was her injuries but she could swear she felt a heat from it not there before. An energy building and touching on something deep inside of her.
She had no idea where the word came from. They just appeared within her mind, as if a voice long past finally speaking to her. Before she could realize it, her lips opened and she breathed them out.
"Oh mighty Isis."
Superman flew to join Adam, firing a blast of heat vision at Circe. She merely held up a hand, creating a shield to block it. Power Girl flew at her only for the same heat vision to be directed at her, causing her to gasp as she was burned.
Circe looked toward the ground, as if hearing something. "Ah...I believe I have recovered what I came for." She brought her hands together, allowing a large glow to form around them. "I suppose I don't need to waste time here..."
There was an explosion of rock and wind ripping through the area. All eyes turned as a blast of wind emerged to hit Circe full-on, sending her flipping backward.
Floating from the rubble was Adrianna...only now she was something else. Her clothing had changed to a loose flowing white dress, her mid-riff exposed but showing her firm and more muscular body. Her top was wrapped around her neck as the white skirt flowed with the winds about her. Around her waist was a golden belt with an eagle-like symbol at its center. Her wrists were clad in golden bracelets and the pendant had expanded around her neck to craft a golden choker with the shining symbol at its heart. A golden tiara with a red gem was on her forehead and her eyes opened to show gleaming with new power.
"By the old Gods," Adam whispered, for once struck completely speechless.
Adrianna continued to float upward, raising her hands as wind whipped around her and then flew outward across the streets. It scattered the various skeletons, causing several to smash against buildings and break apart.
"Mom?" Amon whispered, staring up in shock at the sight of his mother floating overhead. Adrianna turned to focus on Circe, her eyes narrowed. She threw her hands out to push another gale of wind that knocked the sorceress away, sending her tumbling along in the air.
Jamie sighed as she looked at the scene. "I really don't know how much more of this I can take…"
Circe hissed as she floated away from the conflict. She cocked her head as if hearing something and smiled. "Too little, too late…" She made a mocking wave. "Ta ta for now." The cloud of smoke billowed around her as she vanished once more.
Adam cursed in his ancient tongue as he turned to face the transformed Adrianna. He felt his eyes rake over her, less on her stunning beauty and more the power exuding from her. "This is...a change."
"It is," she returned, her voice stronger. Her fingers trailed to the amulet, stroking it. "Yet it also feels...right. Like what is meant to be." She shivered a bit. "I can't explain it but it's how it feels."
"Great," Jamie intoned. "Another lady in a wild costume and powers, just what my life needed."
Wonder Woman looked about. "Where's the crown?"
"Gone." Fate was stepping forward, his helmet off as he peered about. "It seems one of Circe's compatriots stole it away in the conflict." He stroked his beard. "I may be able to track it but Circe's magics will make it difficult."
"Can you do it fast?" Hawkman asked as he came up, his wings retracted but still holding his tough attitude. "The faster we find her, the better."
Fate smiled. "I can always try but magic is not something to be rushed."
"On a clock, Kent."
"Time works different than you wish, Carter. You should know that better than anyone."
The Flash frowned at Green Lantern. "How come he's so much nicer with them than us?"
"If you have to ask..." Kent muttered.
Power Girl stepped forward, arms crossed below her ample chest and Wonder Woman felt a bit relieved that at last, she wasn't the only woman being ogled by various men around her. "Guess this is our first official team-up?" She smiled at Superman. "Have wanted to finally work with you guys"
"Same here," Superman said, returning the smile. "Diana speaks highly of her time with you all."
"Guess I can call in some reserves," Hawkman stated.
"I am coming too." Everyone looked to Adam who just returned their gaze. "These beings invaded my home, attacked my people, they must answer for that."
"And I'm coming with." Adrianna stepped by his side. Adam was opening his mouth but she held up a hand to cut him off. "I did not ask for this...but that woman tried to kill me. I tend to take that personally."
"Mom?" Amon had come up to the group, staring in amazement at the Justice Leaguers. "Wow...I can't believe you're here..."
Adam looked a bit put out by the way the boy admired Superman but brushed it off. "We shall be accompanying you. But if I see a way to end this Circe, you shall not stop me."
"We'll get to that when we can," Superman stated.
Adrianna looked at her son. "You are staying here." He opened his mouth only to be fixed with a glare to realize his mother now had the power to send him flying around. "Fine fine. But you need a name!"
Adrianna rolled her eyes. "Amon..."
"Every super heroine needs a good name!"
She shook her head as she turned to Adam. "Let's get going."
He had to smile at her before turning to Fate. "Take us away." The man nodded, putting his helmet back on before waving his hands and a cloud of smoke teleported away.
As the smoke faded and the two teams found themselves in the Justice League's headquarters (and Jamie tried to keep her stomach from erupting on the spot), Hawkman glared at Fate. "Nelson, you realize I left my jet back there?"
"You can call it back later," Fate intoned. Black Adam and Adrianna were taking in the room as Constantine was waiting for them. "No Crown?"
"Circe grabbed it," Wonder Woman told him. "Which means we have a bigger problem at hand."
"Not just that," Cyborg intoned as he stood by the console. "Been doing checking, a rash of disappearances of women." He quickly entered some data to let faces appear on the holographic imagery. "All of them showing up during that battle."
Diana nodded. "Aresia using what magics Circe gave her to enspell other women to her."
"And somehow she's got Raven on her side," Donna stated with worry. "If she can unlock more of her full powers, that could be a bad thing."
"So we got to get cracking," Hawkman intoned. "Well, Justice League and Justice Society together, we should be able to solve it fast."
Adrianna sniffed. "Ah, yes, you great heroes thinking you can waltz in and save us poor innocent helpless humans."
Power Girl raised an eyebrow. "You realize that label doesn't quite fit you anymore."
Adrianna glared at her. "I'm saying that you act like you're doing us a favor by coming in there."
"It's our job," Hawkman stated. "We intend to keep global stability."
"And where you all those years we were under the yoke of a monster?" Adrianna spat. "Or Intergang? Or any of the others trying to dominate us for decades?" She crossed her arms as she looked over the heroes. "Why would none of you step in?"
"Because we've seen how that can end up," Green Lantern responded. "We start deciding who should be in charge of other nations, that's a slippery slope."
Adrianna scoffed. "The usual excuse. You call yourselves 'Justice' and you deny it to the places that can use it the most. And you wonder why we turn to him as our champion." She waved to Adam.
He smirked. "Ah, you finally called me that."
She rolled her eyes. "Don't let it go to your head."
Prince held up a hand. "I understand this isn't my world but I do understand political problems. I get your anger at being ignored, I've seen it before. But right now, our focus needs to be on Circe."
Adrianna folded her arms. "Fine. Yet, don't act like you're the only ones who can decide for this world."
Superman looked to Fate. "Is there any way we can track down this Crown? Some sort of magical link to it?"
"Sadly, Circe is ready to block any of my magics," Kent mused, scratching his beard. "But there are only a few places she can go to properly use the crown..."
"What about Raven?" Donna piped up.
"We are going to try and help..."
"No, not what I meant," Donna interrupted. "We're from another Earth and I'm guessing that maybe that somehow makes us stand out?" Off their looks, she shrugged. "Just a thought."
"She might be onto something," Cyborg said. "We know folks from different Earths have a different frequency..."
"It's the vibrations," the Flash spoke up. "Me and the other Barry figured that's how it works. Maybe we can find a way to track Raven down by that." He looked Donna over. "Huh...Okay, um, trying to approach this without sounding awkward but, um..." He carefully reached toward her, Donna confused but letting him put a hand on her shoulder. She felt a shiver go through her with a blast of warmth as Barry's hand shook a bit. He backed up, nodding. "Okay, think I got it..." He looked to Cyborg. "Maybe whip up a way for me to track the frequency of her Earth."
"Actually been working on something along those lines," Cyborg confirmed, waving a hand toward his lab. "We can get cracking on it fast."
"I'll help," Jade piped up. "Been working on more of the tech stuff myself." Cyborg nodded as they headed out.
Jamie shook her head. "I used to think Steve's story about meeting Bigfoot was the craziest thing ever. This has that all beat."
Donna sighed deeply. "I hope it works. Raven's been through a lot already without being used by that witch. I should have been there for her more."
"Got distant?" Diana asked.
"In my defense, I was dead for a bit."
"Ah. Been there." Superman had to smile, earning a baffled look from Jamie who decided she was better off not pursuing this line of questioning. Instead, she looked to Power Girl and frowned. "So…are you and him related?" she nodded toward Superman.
"Not exactly," the woman replied. "I'm from Daxam, a world that had a beef with Krypton until it was destroyed. We suffered some damage when it exploded, my parents thought I was better off getting off the planet." She brushed her hair back. "Thankfully, Kal found me first and helped me blend in on this world."
Jamie made a show of looking the buxom blonde in the revealing outfit up and down. "Clearly."
"At least she doesn't wear glasses as a lame disguise," the Flash muttered.
"It works!" Prince protested.
Donna shook her head. "Dammit, I should have kept a better eye on her..."
"Hey, sure you did what you could," Hawkman said. "Right now, finding your friend and Circe is the priority."
Donna sighed as she looked around. "Is there a gym around here? I need to burn off some steam."
"I'll show you," Wonder Woman said, leading Donna out of the room. They walked down toward the lower levels and before long in the Batcave. Donna looked around with interest. "Huh. Different than the one in my world."
"One of my counterparts was talking about that," Wonder Woman mused. She chuckled. "A giant penny? How would he even get that in there?"
"A mystery," Donna agreed. She moved to the main training area, a large platform as Wonder Woman hit a few buttons. In moments, a hard light hologram of a muscular gray-skinned alien formed before Donna. "A combination of Kryptonian tech and Wayne Corp advances," Wonder Woman explained.
Donna nodded, pulling her hair back before moving into a fighting stance. She threw out some punches with the alien dodging before making a shot of his own that Donna avoided. Wonder Woman observed her, hearing the click of boots and glanced to see Diana and Prince both enter, just as curious to see this woman who was their protegee on another Earth.
Donna knew she had an audience but didn't let it bother her as she punched at the holographic alien. Her jaw tightened as she blasted it with a hard blow that could cave in the jaw of a normal person. She kicked at him hard before grabbing him by the shoulders and slamming him into the ground. She leaned over him and began pummeling him with punches, ignoring the pain on her knuckles.
Diana frowned as she moved onto the platform. "Donna...that's enough." She reached for the woman's arm, with Donna reflexively throwing an elbow into her face. Diana fell back as Donna tried to get back to pounding the hologram.
Wonder Woman hit a button to shut it off as Diana moved to Donna again. Donna lashed out with a fist as Diana caught it, squeezing until Donna gasped in pain. Prince was ready to move in, but Wonder Woman held her back.
Diana looked at Donna with a stern but caring expression. "I'm not your enemy. I'm not the one you're angry with." Donna was heaving with breath as Diana moved toward her. "I can see you're in pain, Donna. Until you learn to handle and forgive yourself for whatever you think you did, you're no help to Raven or anyone."
Donna slowed her breathing, bowing her head as her anger flooded from her. "Just...the last few years just been so damn hard. I died and came back, twice. Yet the world just seems such a mess."
"I know," Wonder Woman stated as she stepped onto the platform. "I know how it feels. I lost a man I loved and I felt lost for a long time. But I eventually came out of it with the JSA and later on my own." She put a hand on Donna's shoulder. "Carrying too heavy a burden is hard enough for a child of the gods, let alone a mortal."
Donna looked at her before chuckling. "Damn, you're more like my Diana than I realized." She brushed her hair back. "Sorry about the shot."
"It's all right, "Diana assured her. "I should tell you about a time with the Justice League ladies and a fight club sometime." She smiled to Wonder Woman. "Can you get more opponents? I think we can all do with some exercise."
Wonder Woman smiled back as she entered some more commands. In seconds, a dozen such aliens formed on the grid. Stepping ont it herself, Wonder Woman stood by her counterparts as they prepared for the fight.
Circe smiled as she took in the Crown in her hands. "Lovely," she whispered. "So lovely..." She turned on the platform to face Aresia and the other women gathered in the temple, including the extra ones of this world Aresia had ensnared. "A good job, ladies. I do believe we can make more than enough magic with this."
Aresia stood with her arms crossed and a scowl on her face. Beside her, Raven simply sat with a blank expression while the other women were likewise silent. "Are we getting closer to reaching a point? Because I'm becoming rather tired of being your lapdog."
Circe chuckled. "It is refreshing you know your place, Aresia."
"I never fooled myself into thinking you considered me important, witch," the former Amazon snapped. "This has never been a true partnership. I am aware I am expendable, but be warned that I will fight you as hard as I can should you cross me. We merely have mutual goals." Her eyes narrowed. "Just be sure I still get what I want out of this."
"Yes, yes, the men of the world punished," Circe said in a flippant tone. "Don't worry, they will be." She adjusted the crown onto a holder on the platform and backed up. She cracked her knuckles as she concentrated on the crown. Her eyes crackled with power as she brought her hands together, whispering an incantation.
The other women stood back and watched, most quiet, while Aresia was tense. Raven was blank-faced as Circe, held the crown over her head, her incantation growing louder as the crown glowed with magical power. Circe's smile grew along with the magical energies building around her as Aresia prepared for anything to happen.
Circe's eyes suddenly shot wide open as she felt something. "Wait...that's not..." Her smile had faded, replaced by worry and even a flash of fear.
A blast of light echoed along with what sounded like loud thunder. Black smoke rolled across the chamber as a figure slowly lumbered out. With each step, Circe's eyes grew wider and her fear grew even more. Stepping out of the smoke was a powerfully built man with blonde hair, his handsome face marked with a smirk that outdid Circe's own. He was clad in a suit of dark armor that glistened in the light while showing his powerful form. His cold eyes raked over the women and chuckled. "Hardly the force meant to quell this realm, witch."
"Ares," Circe whispered, her usual arrogance gone as she saw the God of War of her own reality before her. "How...how are you here?"
"Oh, I check in from time to time," Ares intoned in a tone that wasn't as friendly as intended. He carefully paced before Circe, observing the crown. "A reality where I no longer exist is something that calls to me. Amazing a world packed with so much war and without me to direct it. Humans truly are a wonderful species when it comes to destroying its own."
Circe backed up, licking her lips. "Wha...what do you want?" She was doing all she could to keep pure fear out of her voice and not succeeding very well.
"Want?" Ares raised an eyebrow. "Why, I want what I always want, witch. What is often denied to me on my own plane by Father and others. I want war. Pure, utter war, the greater, the better." He brushed at his chin. "The problem always is, a war that consumes the world will give me a brief boost but then leave no worshippers left, no one to begin another and thus my power will fade."
His smile broadened. "But a war on another Earth...one between Heaven and Hell..one without its own Ares...ah, now that is just the thing I can feast upon. That can give me enough power to vie for the throne." His eyes flared with fire. "And to eliminate not just one Wonder Woman but three is the icing on the cake."
Circe felt her fear recede as she saw her opening. "So you're proposing...an alliance?"
"One mutually beneficial to us both," Ares stated. His own grin grew wider. "It's time to cry havoc, Circe. And let both of our worlds tremble under the dogs we shall unleash."
Circe's laughter returned, echoed by Ares and behind them both, Aresia shivered as she once more tried to tell herself this could all work out in the end.
So another intriguing wrinkle to things. The Adrianna bit into Isis was clearly a plan for the Black Adam movie and a shame it won't happen in new DCEU plans. But am intrigued how it goes and had to include it.
And for "castings" of JSA members:
Power Girl: Kaley Cuoco
Jade: Lilly James
Hopefully not as long before another update to keep things going.
