"You didn't have to have the whole committee here helping out, Aaron," Georgia said as she stepped into the kitchen, an easy grin on her lips. In the time since they had last seen her, she had cut her hair to her shoulders and the look suited her well, while also reminding him all the more strongly of Erin. "But it is nice to see that you and Mother have wonderful friends who are willing to help out when necessary."
"That is one of the great things about my team, yes," he replied as he welcomed the hug she enveloped him in. Again, he was reminded of his wife, and it shocked him to know just how much children could be like their parents, even when there was no connection to them growing up. He knew that he would have to think about that some more, as it was relevant to their line of work, but now was the time to focus on making this transition as smooth as possible. "Now, I'm assuming that everything in your car and the trailer you rented is going to be brought into your room?"
"For the most part. There are a few things for Vanessa and Jack, too, since Mom and Dad wanted to make them feel welcome, too. I already sent some stuff to Josh and Becca, but…"
"Let me guess, Molly refused to accept her package?" Georgia nodded. "Thank you for trying to include her, I know that it isn't easy with her being so prickly."
The young woman shrugged her shoulders a little. "I understand, a little. It was definitely a shock to learn that I had another, larger, family to fit into. If I was in Molly's position, not knowing that I existed, I probably would have reacted in the same manner. I'm just glad that Mother didn't reject me when I first dropped in on her."
"Erin's great at rolling with the punches," Dave said, and Aaron gave him a small nod. "Now, kiddo, I won't be able to do much of the heavy lifting, since I still have these blasted crutches, but I think that I can sneak upstairs without them and help you put away boxes. All right?"
"Sounds perfect, David."
The others gathered chuckled at those words, and Georgia gave him a confused look. "It's not what you said, but how you said it. It was like your mother was coming out of your mouth just then, and it's a little funny and disconcerting to hear it." Aaron smiled kindly and gestured for them to head into the house proper. A part of him knew that there would be hell to pay from Penelope when she found Dave's crutches at the bottom of the stairs, but there wasn't much that he could do about that, as his best friend was seriously champing at the bit to be back to normal.
"All right, everyone else, let's get these boxes brought in." Aaron turned and made his way outside, leaving the front door open as he went over to the trailer and opened the door. There wasn't that much in there, but some of it was awkwardly shaped, which explained the necessity of the rental. "Morgan, do you want to help me with this mirror?" he asked, looking over his shoulder at the others.
The man nodded and stepped into the trailer, picking up the far end of the mirror and together they brought the ungainly piece into the house and up the stairs. "This thing weighs a ton, Hotch."
"I know. I wasn't expecting this," he huffed out, wondering how he could chase down unsubs and yet still be so out of shape. "Just a few more feet, and it will be in her room."
"Thank God," Morgan muttered, and Aaron chuckled a little as he turned into Georgia's room. Dave and her were sitting on the bare bed, chatting away, when they entered, and he rolled his eyes a little at the man as they set the mirror down onto the floor, leaning it against the wall.
"Oh, good, you brought that in first. I'm sorry that it's so heavy, but it was free and old and I couldn't say no. It reminds me of the Mirror of Erised, you know?"
Aaron nodded, vaguely knowing that it was a reference to Harry Potter. "You can't knock free, especially not when it's a piece as fine as this."
"It didn't look that way when I got it. Dad helped me refinish it, and we had to resilver the glass, but I think that it looks something like what it did in its prime. There's a marking on the back that says it was made in the 1800s."
Dave gave a slow nod as he hobbled over to the mirror, pulling it back a little so that he could see what she was talking about. "Oh, kiddo, you managed to land your hands on a treasure here. I'll have my contact with the Smithsonian come out and appraise this, just so you can get some insurance on it."
Georgia's eyes widened a little as the others started to enter with her things. "Do you really think it's worth something?"
His best friend went to nod, only to have Penelope speak first. "David Steven Rossi! What do you think you're doing without your crutches?"
He looked at Aaron for help, and he just shook his head a little, knowing that there was nothing he could do to get Penelope to back down from this ledge. "Sweetheart, Kitten, as long as I stay in here, it won't exacerbate this bum leg of mine. Now, we're holding the others up, let them put down what they're carrying so that they can get more. Okay?"
Penelope shook her head as she went over to her husband, slipping an arm around his waist as they continued to bicker quietly, which allowed the others to set their boxes down. Aaron stayed back and looked at Georgia expectantly, knowing that she was going to tell him where she wanted the mirror. "I think that the mirror would look best next to the closet, since I can easily make certain that an outfit looks all right."
"Everything looks good on you, darling."
They both turned to look at Erin as she entered the room, Irene in her arms. It was hard to believe that only two weeks had passed since her last appointment, because she visibly looked more pregnant, and he moved to go over to her side, only for Georgia to beat him to the punch. "Mother! You look so good!" Carefully, she wrapped her arms around Erin, kissing her cheek tenderly.
"So do you, Georgia. I'm sorry that we don't have any sheets for you, but I thought that you'd want to sleep on your own bedding tonight."
"That's fine. I think there's bedding in the first box that Emily brought in, so if you want to take a seat on the bed, I'll start digging through these."
Erin looked over Georgia's shoulder to roll her eyes a little at Aaron, and he had to hide his chuckle with a cough. "All right, I'll get this mirror up against that wall while you and Erin dig through these boxes." Both women gave him a familiar look, and again, he had to swallow his laugh as he wrestled the ungainly mirror over to the other wall. Thankfully, it was on feet, which made it more stable than he was expecting. "Does this look good?"
"Yes, perfect," Georgia answered absently, and he shook his head a little as he left the bedroom to join the others outside. There truly wasn't very much in the trailer, and it seemed like Emily, Reid, and Morgan had a handle on that, so he decided to start going through the items that were in Georgia's trunk and back seat. His eyes widened a little to see the profusion of plants in the back, as that was another clear link between mother and daughter.
"She has a succulent collection too," Reid said as he pulled out the first box.
"Yeah. This gives a lot of credence to the nature aspect of certain traits being engrained in people from birth. This could be a very interesting case study about that theory, you know."
"Aaron Hotchner, you yourself have told us numerous times that we do not profile our own!" He gave Emily a sheepish look as he brought the box into the house and up the stairs.
"Where do you want the plants?" he asked when he entered the bedroom, a smile spreading across his face to see that the bed was already made, and that there was a beautiful quilt on top. Erin was stretched out on the bed, Irene sleeping next to her, and he felt an overwhelming wave of love wash over him in that moment. Setting the box on the foot of the bed, he pulled his phone out of his pocket and took a quick picture, sending it on to Penelope.
"I think I'm going to line the windowsill with my plants, but they might not all fit. Do you think we could disperse them throughout the house?"
"Of course," Erin answered in a heartbeat, and Aaron nodded his agreement. "How much more is left, do you think?"
"Only about four more boxes, so if you want to stay here, Hotch, we can bring the rest of it in. And I'll return the trailer to the rental facility before picking up lunch for us all. Is pizza okay?"
"Actually, Derek, Jessica was planning on bringing pizza over in about an hour. I'm good at estimating times, still." Erin gave the other man a soft smile before looking down at Irene. "Though I wouldn't say no to you stopping by the smoothie store and picking up a strawberry banana smoothie for me? With extra protein?"
"Ooh, Sugar Bear, if you do that, I'd love a green smoothie," Penelope said as she took a seat on the bed and began to look through the plants.
"I will definitely do that for my lovely ladies. Emily, if you want to take everyone's order, I'll be outside grabbing those last boxes before moving the trailer to the back of my truck." Morgan left the room with Reid and Emily rolled her eyes as she pulled out her phone and hurriedly tapped away on it before she looked over at him and Dave.
"Well?"
"Strawberry banana for me, too, Emily," he replied, unsurprised when Dave turned down the offer, since he wasn't really that type of person. She nodded and left the bedroom, and then Aaron was taking a seat on the foot of the bed, looking at his wife. There was a deeper expression of peace on her face, and he knew that that was from Georgia being there. "You look good, Buttercup."
"I feel good, Aaron. I'm surrounded by people who care for me and my family, and are willing to help move my sweet daughter into our home. You've dragged me into the light, and I don't ever want to go back to the place where I once was." Leaning in, she reached out for his hand, squeezing it firmly as she took a shaky breath. He nodded and lifted that hand to his lips, kissing the palm tenderly as she smiled a little wider. "Now, let's get more of this stuff put away so that Georgia actually has a room to sleep in tonight, rather than being surrounded by boxes."
Aaron nodded and got to his feet, joining Penelope and Dave by the boxes. There wasn't too much to do, and as soon as Georgia joined them, he knew that it would go so quickly. Looking around at those gathered, Aaron knew that Erin was right, this was a good feeling, and he was glad that their Georgia was home.
