MK was a good friend, nothing like Dudley and his goons. Sure he chatted her ear off about Undyne, which was the scariest thing she could think about right now, but he listened to her chat about all the stuff she'd come across while walking through the underground, and that was enough, and he helped her climb up a ledge they couldn't reach and said he'd catch up later. At least it had stopped raining. -how it could rain in the Underground, she had no idea-
But the sense of dread that was creeping up on her was getting to be too much, and it wasn't long before it caught up with her. The next rooms she went through were dark, and the room after that had no light and she could barely see in front of her as she waded through waist-deep water before finally reaching out and feeling for the solid ground in front of her. A bit ahead, was an Echo-Flower. She brushed against its leaves and it's echo almost made her sick up on her shoes. "Behind You."
When she turned around, Undyne was looming behind her. The woman took a step forward and started to speak. "Seven. Seven human souls. With the power of seven human souls, our king. King Asgore Dreemurr. Will become a god. With that power, Asgore can finally shatter the barrier. He will finally take the surface back from humanity, and give them back the suffering and pain we have endured. Understand, human? This is your only chance at redemption. Give up your soul, or I'll TEAR it from your body!"
Undyne summoned her spear to her hand and pointed at Frisk's chest. She started to advance, before Monster Kid, MK, her saving grace yet again, burst from behind some nearby bushes she hadn't seen before. "Undyne! I'll help you fight!" He turned to look at her, and then back at Frisk several times before landing on Frisk. "Yo! You did it! Undyne is RIGHT in front of you! You've got front-row seats to her fight!" He paused a second and turned back to Undyne. "...wait. Who's she fighting?" Undyne let her spear vanish and then grabbed him before tugging him away, and as she was dragging him away he let out a worried "H-Hey! You- You aren't gonna tell my parents about this are you?"
Frisk released a breath she hadn't realized she was holding and started walking again once her legs stopped shaking.
She stepped back into the water and went up a path she hadn't noticed in the dark. It leads to yet again, surprise, surprise, another room! This one was filled with echo flowers, and as she passed them, she ran her hands across their petals and listened to the passing conversations.
"...hmm… If I say my wish. You promise you won't laugh at me?"
"Of course, I won't laugh!"
"Someday, I'd like to climb this mountain we're all under. Standing under the sky, looking at the world all around…. That's my wish"
Laughter sounded.
"Hey! You said you wouldn't laugh at it!"
"Sorry, it's just funny…. That's my wish too."
She came to a plaque, like one of the ones she read before in what she dubbed "The Hall of Stories." in her mind. It read. 'However, there is a prophecy. The Angel, The One Who Has Seen The Surface, They will return, and the Underground will go Empty."
Dread set back in her stomach, and she took a breath before walking across a bridge that had no handrails. She was over halfway there when MK ran up behind her.
"Yo! Yo. I know I'm not supposed to be here, but… I wanna ask you something… Man, I've never had to ask anyone this before… Um…. Yo, You're human, right? Haha. Man, I knew it! … Well I know it now, I mean… Undyne told me, um, 'Stay away from that human.' So, like, umm… I guess that makes us enemies or something. But I kinda stink at that, haha. Yo, say something mean so I can hate you? Please?"
She let her head fall. "No.. MK, I don't want to."
"Yo, what?! So I have to do it? Here goes nothing… Yo, I… I hate your guts… Man, I'm such a turd. I'm… I'm gonna go home now…" He backed off before starting to run, and she looked up in time to see him trip and fall, catching himself on the edge of the bridge.
"Yo, w-wait! Help! I tripped!"
Undyne was on the other side of the bridge, and fear gripped her heart, but dammit she wasn't going to let him fall. So without hesitating, she ran forward and grabbed him and pulled him back up onto the bridge by his sweater. He smiled and then positioned himself between Undyner and her.
"Y- Yo… dude. If… If you wanna hurt my friend… You're gonna have to get through me, first!"
Undyne stepped back and walked away.
"She's gone… Yo, you really saved my skin! Guess being enemies was just a nice thought, haha. We'll just have to be friends instead! Man, I should REALLY go home… I bet my parents are worried sick about me! Later, dude!"
"Bye MK!" She waved as he ran off, and then turned around and started walking again. Soon, she came to the entryway to a cave, - a cave in an Underground cave system, yeah, that makes sense, at least it looked more like a cave than the carved hallways she'd been walking through.- and, Undyne was standing at the top of it. Oh god.
"Seven. Seven human souls and King Asgore will become a god. Six. That's how many we have collected thus far. Understand? Through your seventh and final soul, this world will be transformed. First, however, as is customary for those who make it this far… I shall tell you the tragic tale of our people. It all started, long ago… No. You know what? SCREW IT! WHY SHOULD I TELL THAT STORY WHEN YOU'RE ABOUT TO DIE!?" she screamed and ripped her helmet off. "YOU! You're standing in the way of everybody's hopes and dreams! Alphy's history books made me think were cool… with their giant robots and flowery swordswomen. But you? You're just a coward! Hiding behind that kid so you could run away from me again! And let's not forget your wimpy goody-two-shoes-shtick! 'Oooh I'm making such a difference by hugging random strangers!' You know what would be more valuable to everyone? IF YOU WERE DEAD! That's right human! Your continued existence is a crime! Your life is all that stands between us and our freedom! Right now, I can feel everyone's hearts pounding together! Everyone's been waiting their whole lives for this moment! But we're not nervous at all. When everyone puts their hearts together. They can't lose! Now Human! Let's end this. Right here. Right now. I'll show you how Determined monsters can be. Step forward when you're ready."
Those verbal barbs hurt worse than her spears, so with a deep breath, and crushing the waiting glowing star in her hand. She stepped forward.
"That's it then! No more running away! HERE I COME!" Undyne landed with her spear drawn.
Her soul appeared before her and Undyne swiped at her. "En Guarde!" Undyne attacks.
Her soul's red color turned green, and like how it was when she 'fought' Papyrus and it was blue, she had a feeling there would be some trick to this.
"As long as you're Green! You can't Escape! Unless you learn to face danger HEAD ON! You won't last a second against me!" -and there's the trick-
"I don't want to fight you Undyne." Nothing happened.
She blocked the incoming attacks with her stick, which was weird. You'd think it break. AcK more spears!
There! There! A brief second where her soul wasn't green anymore! She ran, but Undyne quickly caught up. The attacks started again, and she ran when she got her chance. Again, Undyne caught up quickly, but she could see Hotland's bridge in the distance. Undyne's wearing thick metal armor and is a fish. There's no way she'd be able to follow her there. Just keep running when you get your chance! She ran again, but her phone rang and she answered it.
"HEY! WHAT'S UP?! I WAS JUST THINKING! YOU, ME, AND UNDYNE SHOULD ALL HANG OUT SOMETIME. I THINK YOU ALL WOULD MAKE GREAT PALS! LET'S MEET UP AT HER HOUSE LATER!" *Click*
Undyne caught up again and yelled at her. "STOP RUNNING AWAY"
"Nope! Sorry!" and she took off running again. It was right there, come on, Come on! DAMMIT SANS WAKE UP AND HELP ME! Yes! Yes a bridge! Go! Go! Go! YES! SOLID GROUND!
"Armor… so…. hot…. But I can't… give up!" Undyne fell flat on her face. Unable to move because of the heat.
Frisk allowed herself a moment of celebration before she started walking again, but something made her pause. There was a water cooler right by the exit. So she sighed, filled up a cup with the surprisingly still cool water, and walked over to pour it on Undyne's head. She stepped back as Undyne started to get up, and there was a moment of hesitation before Undyne turned around and walked away.
Well… no harm in seeing what Papyrus wanted, and I guess Undyne's not gonna try and kill her now. So after getting herself a drink of water, she started heading back, allllll the way through Waterfall and back to the place where she hung out at Napstablooks. Funny that Undyne's house is shaped like a fish.
