Chapter 2 - Monsters or Mutants?
Night seemed to come quickly, the orange luster of the evening passed on as the bright stars seemed to ignite in the sky. Though it was hard to tell through the hole that made the deep cavern's entrance. Down and down the cavern got darker yet darker, despite the height the boy named Izuku Midoriya still lived. Though the height like the fall of the sun knocked the lights out of him. Possibly out of shock, concussion, or a mixture of the two he was figuratively and by social standards literally dead to the world. Though he wasn't the only one who felt just the same.
Upon a flower patch of golden flowers where Izuku laid out. A red light glowed out from him as the foreign hum seemed to grow. Though after a brief moment the light extinguished and the hum fell silent. In the absence of them came a translucent figure which rose from the flower patch.\

".̷̱̆.̶͙͊.̵̫̀A̴̻̿m̸̬̋ ̶̛͔I̶̜͒ ̵͔̄ǎ̵̰l̴̘̉i̵͈͐v̴̗̕é̷͙?"
A feminine voice whispered out from the figure, perplexed at her predicament. Taking a look at herself she realized she was of a ghastly form which nearly unraveled in fear mixed with a wail.
She went up in a clumsy float around the patch in repeated calls into the cave with no echo to follow.
"Ä̶̛̘̖̟͕́̈́͊̆̃̈́͗̇͗̈͜͝s̸̟̩̽̏̔͑́̑̈́̈̊̚̚r̶͖͇̥͕͊̊̕i̵̢̤̬̼̱͉͎̅͊͆̎̀̏͑̓e̴̬̜̣͚̙͉̤̬͋͑̒̾̄͑̂͑̾̿̀͆̚͝l̵̨̙̯̫͙̩̪̙̝͓͛̊͒̇,̶͎̭̱̰̙̦̆̈́͛̓́̏͂͋̂͂̅͑̕ ̶̦̺̤̜͚̝͍̍̂̾̌̑̋͗̇̐̽̈̓̇̆ḁ̴͙̥̊̇̈́̈̈́̍̈́̓̒̒̋̍̕͝͠ͅř̷͇̟̘̻͎͔̙͎̤̲͓͛̏̎̐̃͑̆̔̕̚͝͝ͅͅę̸̢̳̗̘̗͕̮̫͙͍̉͗̎̏̏̎̅̔̄͝ͅ ̴̗̤͕̆̔ͅy̵̱̩͉̹̾̂̾͌̾̾͠o̶̖͇͇̤̪̘̹͇͙̺̣̍̈́̅̇̄̆̄͐̌̕̕͝͠͝ų̵̱͎̹̣͙̲̟̫̙̞͌́̍͌̎ ̸̧̡͖̌̇̎̀͗͘t̶̡̠̜̪̣̫̲̰̂̔̌̄̕͝h̸̢̧̲̀̎̚ẽ̶̡͔̗̰͔͍̬̪̗̺̟͛̇̋̍̽̈́̒͝r̵͙̠͎͉͔̥̠̤̲̟̘̲̱͔̊è̵̡̳̘͉̝̙͇̠̀́̉̀͝?̷̦̠͙̩̞̿̈́̑̒̆͐̈̔̇̎͘͘̚͝͠?̸̛̣͔͇͚̱͇̼̞͈̱͑̽͆͊̓͒̉̉͘͝͠ ̵̥̤̠̟̘͚͚̭̈́̐̎̚͜͝͠W̷̙̜͙̤̻̐̔̄͑͒̈̏̈́h̴̨̦̣̣͇̱̭̭͍̩̦̞͓̆̈́́́à̴̡̧̡̧̭͍̰̮̜̼̫̖̖̰̈́̏͛̊́̀̂́͝t̸̢̧̪̺̰̩̲̟̤͇̭̲͈͍̟̀̇̋̐̿͛̍͂͛͠͝ ̶̤̲̒̔̎̈́̿͂̈́̂̽̋͝h̴̨̛̖̫͍̞̩̣̫͙͓͕͓̙̫̯͆̽͌̈̓̽̀͌̇͝͝͠a̴̰̿̎̔̍͐̎͐͋̾̚͝͝ͅp̵̨̟͕͔͚̗͓̳̹̲͍̼͕̰̑͜p̷̜̰̖̠̤̜̞͕̰̙̿̿͐͌̅̋̄̆̌͘̕͜͝ͅȩ̴̹̩̜̿̅̌͘͘͝͝͝n̸̨̦͗̆̊̒̑͝ę̶̯̜̺̲̮̣͔̞̭̍͌̋̽͘̚͝ͅd̴̢̘̩͓̩̬̻̳̮̽̈́̎̒ͅ ̶̛̲̞͚̐͛̐͠͝t̷̛͕̮̟̲̻̲͑̐͆̈́̊̚͘͘͜͝ō̵̝̰̾̏̂̎̍̀͛͊͂̋͂͝͝ ̶̘͒̽̌m̸̠̬̹̺̈́̔́͗̂̈́͛̅̓̈́̎̀̈́̕͝e̶̢̛̛̫̐̂͆̐́͋̔̓́̅̀͌̀?̶̢͓̥͕̩͎̖̣̜̅̑͋̂͂̽͋̔̏̈́̆͒͗̚!̴̧̧̙̠͚͗͑͐̚͘"
She continued repeating this alongside cries that could be assumed for her parents, her form shaded under the shadows of the room. She eventually seemed to pull too far from the bed of flowers and a foreign force pulled her back. Catching her attention to perceive the green haired human.
Her frantic movement shifted once more as she seemed to shake. In shock, rage, maybe even fear?

Whatever energy the figure held to keep its form seemed to have been pushed too far by the emotions the specter felt. Her form seemed to unravel and dispersed into nothing, Leaving the night to go on in a quiet peace.
(The Next Day)
In the early morning rays of light rained down into the hole. Bringing forth the waking hours of life once more. A lovely spring morning to those above. But to those beneath…
"Uhggg…"
A groan of anguish came from Izuku, a pulsating pain in his head, back, honestly it'd be easier to list where he didn't feel pain. He stirred in his place for a moment in that feeling before muttering out.
"M-Mom, what happened to my bed…?"
…
He paused to try and recall the events of yesterday. Another day of being bullied, got to see a hero fight/debut, met All…Might, fell down…
'Wait…'
Fear and panic intertwined together brought a rush of energy. Izuku immediately sat up in shock before groaning as the fast moments only brought in a worse jolt of pain. Though in his desperation he looked around swiftly.
Dark room of brick interior, purple pillars of possible Greek origin, a hallway to what he assumed was another door, and he sat in the middle on the only dirt that upon it was a patch of golden flowers. Above he saw the change from bricks to ground and rocks with vines and roots hung and intertwined to the walls like veins to a giant organism. Above was the only sight to the outside.
Taking in the environment Izuku thought he was either dreaming or dead. So the immediate test was to look at his body and clothes.
He was obviously in a lot of pain in which his adrenaline alleviated slightly though he could already feel the new bruises. The right side of the bottom hem of his school pants were ripped from the vine and his backpack was crushed including all the contents within. Though as they were mostly books, journals, and his lunch bag he considered they likely caused the pain in his back.
But his journals would be fine. Which gave the boy a slight sense of joy.
Second test was of course to pinch himself.
"Ow! Wait…I-I survived? O-oh thank whatever entity is above I survived!"
The boy teared up, smiling despite the obvious danger of falling down an unknown amount of distance into a cave he had some hope of escaping. His known lifeline was his phone and so Izuku once more slipped into his backpack to find it.
"H-Hopefully the police can help. M-Maybe they could call in a hero like Ryukyu who can fly or maybe even someone like Best Jeanist who can form a long rope to pull me…up."
Nothing…
Seeing as though it wasn't there, Izuku checked around him. Though the air of joy seemed to be cut through to shock as he saw not too far from his was the phone he was looking for…well, parts of it. Two in the flowerbed with him, three not that far from it, and the rest scattered across the room, though somehow his stick was intact.
"N-No…no way."
Then came the crawling and tears ready for bawling. Izuku crawled to his phone pieces, picking them up one after the other. Like a puzzle he attempted to piece them together only to see tears drop and his pale expression reflected from the less shattered parts of his phone screen.
'Maybe…mom.'
"Oh crap, I f-forgot about mom. Could she call? But would they do anything? No one knows where I am. Kacchan…no Bakugo was still getting interviewed. But maybe? No…he wouldn't care. Then Mom would, but why would the police care? Quirkless kid disappears one day and…"
Izuku was scared…no, terrified even. He wanted this to be a dream. The mountain, the hole, and this room of golden flowers. His mumble instead of his usual Quirk ideas was done out of fear but…how would it help him? Trick question, it wouldn't.
"I-I want. N-No I need to move! E-Even if I don't know where I am but i-if no one aside from mom will look for me, I n-need to find my own way out."
Collecting his somewhat weak courage and slipping his broken phone into his bag, Izuku slowly got up. He trembled slightly and almost collapsed under the pain that came from his fall. But after a few steps he knew it'd be okay. So he picked up his stick and headed into the hallway. It was sure to be an usual day for him.
It was another peaceful early morning in Musutafu, Japan. Few civilians wandered or rode the morning hours in business alongside heroes heading on their morning routes or to their agencies. School hasn't even started yet, though in that peaceful bliss one family could be found on the opposite end of that bliss.
So we set our sights to a somewhat plain yet surprisingly organized room. A nice desk on the right wall with a computer and some stacks of finished homework. Also an All Might bobblehead and figure. A brown closet close by with a dart board on the left wall close to bed with a 'Deku Scrub' pinned on it. On that bed…well, I'll let you guess.
A feminine figure with spiky blonde hair and red eyes walked in a calm anger, moving to the red curtains that held back light from the window over the bed frame, letting light spray out into the room.
"Get up bombs for brains! You still have school today!"
SMACK!
The bedbound boy's reaction was instant, sitting up with only a brief moment of confusion before he glared at his mother.
"ACK! Dammit old lady, don't hit me! I'll kill-"
SMACK! x2
"Don't swear at me, it's not my fault you couldn't stay calm during a villain attack and wasted energy! Now get the heck up!"
"Grrrrrrrrr…"
Yep, this all happened in Katsuki Bakugou's room. A normal day in the Bakugou household with his mother Mitsuki Bakugo trying to set a proper schedule which like any rebellious teen, Katsuki obviously ignores.
"You two…please it's too early…"
Marasu Bakugou walked in tiredly, eyes barely open with a mug of coffee in a green bathrobe and maroon fuzzy slippers.
"You shut it, old man! I got enough dealing with this hag-"
SMACK x3
"You shut up, you're the cranky boy who can't get his sleep schedule right!"
"Ahgggg…"
Totally normal. So normal the yelling never stopped till events such as brushing teeth, eating breakfast, and Katsuki finally heading out for school.
"Stupid old hag…stupid old man…I'm ready when I want to be ready."
All he could do was mutter this as he walked down his usual path to Aldera, the school of below average fodder. With the only diamond in the rough being himself. Yeah, only himself…
'Kacchan, I couldn't just stand there and watch you die.'
The fire, the drowning, and that useless moron. A traumatic memory burnt into his mind.
"Stupid Deku, you're useless, why the heck did you almost waste your life to try and show that you think you're better than me?!"
He knew that wasn't the reason, but he wouldn't accept that bush head's excuse of 'Oh my legs moved on there only. BS! All Bakugo knew was two things.
1. The sludge piece of crap was lucky he caught off guard cause if not he would have been the first victim in his inevitable rise to number 1.
2. Deku was the worst of Aldera's fodder and when he sees him again he'll make sure that sticks fully, no more simple burnt notebooks.
With these in mind Bakugou turned the corner and began to speed walking to school, no trash would stand in his way.
The hallway wasn't that long, and a turn of the corner through the doorway Izuku walked slowly into a room of little light. Dark with the only exception being a concentration of light on a patch of grass with a single golden flower. Though it was much different than the others. Much larger and had a…face? Was it a person with a Mutation Quirk? They obviously noticed him with a big smile on her face.
"H-Hello?"
The flower's head moved up slightly in reaction, their smile widening as they stared at him. It was slightly unnerving.
"Oh howdy! I'm Flowey, Flowey the Flowey!"
He seemed to purposefully pause to take in his appearance, obviously reading his nervousness before continuing.
"You're new around here, aren'tcha? Accidentally fell down?"
The flower's voice was chipper and a bit charismatic…and yet Izuku's internal 'bully meter' went off. A somewhat of a sixth sense that's been honed over the years of being bullied, abused, and lied to…the overly friendly and nonchalant introduction also had given it away…
"Though he may just be from another country before he fell? Or depending on his Quirk came down? I wonder what his Quirk even is? He doesn't seem to have legs so does he move via digging or makes roots through the ground? Could he use the roots to grab or maybe-"
"Uh kid, are ya good? Don'tcha need to breathe or is this one of those fancy schmancy Quirk ya humans have?"
Obviously Izuku's internal thoughts must have become external due to his habit of mumbling and heck is shown as he unconsciously pulled out one of his now damaged notebooks…he blushed profusely before looking up at Flowey. Who looked at him confused as his smile slightly wavered with a sweatdrop on his 'forehead'.
"O-Oh I'm s-so sorry! I have a habit of s-speculating about Quirks a-and yours looks like it could have a lot of abilities!"
He'd put his notebook back into his backpack and bowed before finally responding to Flowey's introduction.
"I'm Izuku M-Midoriya, and I accidentally fell down here o-on a break in my walk."
The flower's smile seemed to return back to normal.
"Golly! It's alright Izuku, I'm a flower! One oddity to another ain't bad!"
Flowey crooked his head to the right with a quizzical look.
"Though you must be so confused. Guess little old me will have to teach you a few things."
Izuku nodded in appreciation, knowing he was currently the only one he knew was around.
"That'd be nice. T-Thank you."
"Of course, now first I ain't a Quirk user, heck I ain't even human!"
Confusion.
"W-What?"
"Yeah, suppose you humans must have forgotten due to many a reasons but down here, there ain't humans. Monsters roam these caverns."
Izuku paled. He assumed Flowey must be joking, though if not the 'man-eating monster' rumor just became more real than fiction.
"Yyyyep, monsters, not humans! Though don'tcha worry about ol' me harming ya. Cause I ain't human nor monster, but a flower!"
"...Eh?"
"No need to overthink it! Infact, want me to show you how to get stronger in case one of those nasty monsters decide to hurt ya? Maybe it could even help you when you reach above!"
The rational part of his mind told him this was a trick, a ploy to do something that may harm him. It felt somewhat similar to Kacchan's 'advice'. Though it would be too rude not to hear Flowey out.
"T-That would be nice…"
Flowey's grin became even bigger, his head bobbed upwards in excitement.
"That's great! Here we go then!"
Flowey released a slim vine from the ground by Izuku, causing the boy to jolt and back up slightly in confusion and fear.
"Don't worry! What I'm about to do wouldn't even hurt a fly!"
Izuku calmed down, moving forward to the vine. Flowey responded by methodically moving the vine to the boy's chest, aimed more to the left as if to touch his heart. The vine gained a light green glowing outline which caused a red flash to blind the duo.
BA-BUMP
"AHH!"
Izuku quickly backed up once more in surprise, falling down for a moment. He'd slowly open his eyes to see a red heart floating close chest. It seemed to beat like a heart and released a warm energizing feeling. It felt natural, a foreign yet lost feeling returning to him.
"Told ya it wasn't bad! Now that pal, is your soul!"
"M-My…soul?"
"Yep, your soul! The very culmination of your being!"
Izuku moved his left hand to grab his 'soul', it held no resistance. Infact, despite the newly felt strength it seemed to fuel into him, it felt…weak. Holding it close he could feel as though he could see his own vitality. If he were to quote some video game to try and visualize it then Izuku would say he had 20 HP, or health points.
"You can feel it right? The power and fragility? It starts weak, like a newborn to the world. But unlike a newborn it only grows stronger if you gain alot of LV."
"Levels?"
He turned to Flowey once more, he felt some regret in not trusting him and if he could help him grow whatever power with this soul, then maybe he could become a Quirkless Hero!
"Haha! No silly child, this isn't a video game or anything! Why, LV stands for LOVE!"
"L-Love?"
"Mhm, LOVE. I bet you want some, right? LOVE to grant you abilities to be among your peers?"
Izuku nodded rapidly, his hair bobbing as he looked like a child about to get their favorite candy.
"Well don't you worry, I'll happily share some with you!"
The flower blinked his right eye releasing what seemed to be a star shaped glimmer.
"Down here, love is shared through little white magic…'Friendless pellets'."
As Flowey said that, five of those Friendliness Pellets appeared and rose behind him. Oval shaped magical constructs that spun. Seeing them gave Izuku an instant feeling of dread akin to K-Bakugo preparing one of his stronger explosions…but the 'magic' part also caught his attention…though he could set his grievances and questions aside for the sake of trusting the friendly flower in front of him.
"Just stand still pal, and let the magic join your essence!"
The pellets launched at Izuku, flying quickly which did give his heightened nerves a feeling of fear and regret, especially when…
BANG
RIP-BANG
BANG-BANG
First struck his chest knocking him backwards. Second whiffed and hit his backpack, tearing through it and the supplies within it. Third struck his left side of his body, tearing his uniform and making a gash that would bleed and may cause a scar. Fourth and fifth hit him in the soul and head at the same time causing the boy to be flung backwards to the ground.
- 19 HP
"You IDIOT! You really believed me!?"
Izuku's head rang in pain with his entire body feeling weak as the pain radiated through it. Certain areas such as midriff which painted part of the floor red. But the attack to the soul seemed to hurt his entire body. Whatever damage it took seemed to directly affect his entire body. All he could do was raise his head slightly to face the in hindsight charismatic liar, Flowey.
The Flower's once comforting smile was contorted into a mockingly demonic smile that crossed his entire face, his eyes larger and pure black like a shark who's struck its prey and aims for the kill.
"..W-Why..?"
"In this world, it's kill or BE would ANYONE pass up an opportunity like this!?"
Flowey's speech seemed to shudder in a sadistic joy before the sound of a cacophony of pellets forming was heard around him. A small dome's worth formed around him giving no room to get away. No standing, no crawling, a perfect magic death trap.
"Die."
The pellets slowly enclosed around Izuku, beginning to let out a monstrously mocking cackle which overtook the many laughs of pity and jeering from his bullies. At least they had the pity to let him suffer being alive. Izuku with the last of his hope could only do one thing…
"I'm sorry mom…if I wasn't so weak I could've come back…dad wouldn't have left and we could have been a …happy family…at least pray I-"
PING
"Huh?"
"…What"
He slightly opened his heavy eyelids, looking out to see the once mocking flower had become confused, but from behind ignited an orange light that brought light into the darkness around them. In a quick motion a fireball was shot out and exploded out onto the patch of grass.
"EUGH!"
Flowey was knocked away, uprooted from the ground with the flames burning where his stem once was. Swiftly as it came the flames extinguished to reveal his savior. A…white furred goat woman with brownish red irises with a stature above eight feet. Wearing a purple robe with white sleeves and a blue shield symbol, upon which was a sign foreign to Izuku.
"What an awful creature, torturing such a poor, innocent youth…"
Her voice was eloquent and light with a slight somberness to it. She slowly walked up to him in what seemed to be an act to help him, though considering everything Flowey Izuku did the best he could to pull himself inwards, closing his eyes in fear of being cooked by the new person's fire Quirk? Magic? Izuku wasn't sure anymore but hoped she'd make it quick.
"Blood…? How torture that creature must have done to you…"
The woman muttered to herself as he could hear her come closer.
"Do not be afraid, my child. I won't let you suffer here."
A pause occurred before he felt her fluffy hands. Her left on his midriff wound and her right moved him up to touch his soul, sending a chill throughout his body in worry of what would come next. But instead of tearing his soul out, it became…warm? Izuku opened his eyes in slight confusion to see his savior's hands were ignited in green flames which began to wrap his body up in warmth. Pain once icy and cold as death, replaced by the warm comfort of rejuvenation
"This is green magic, my child. Magic monsters use to heal each other. See?"
His savior moved her hands to his, grabbing them softly before pulling him slowly upwards for Izuku to stand. He'd back up before feeling himself over. His uniform was ripped still and what was left of his backpack was scraps, but he felt no bruises and the gash of the pellet had been replaced by scarless new skin. His soul was…well, it seemed to return within his body. Back to full vigor with a beat intertwined with his heart.
"I-It's as if I wasn't hurt at all…"
"A wonder, isn't it?"
She let out a small laugh of amusement to his disbelief. Realizing quickly the woman in front of her wasn't like Flowey he knew for sure he had to apologize, and so he'd bow speaking out.
"I'm s-so sorry M-Ms…?"
"I am Toriel, caretaker of these Ruins. And you do not need to apologize dear, your first impression of us monsters was…soured by that scoundrel flower."
She'd pat him on the shoulder, Izuku slowly moved up to face her…and man his neck hurt slightly looking up at Toriel.
"You…a-and he, really are monsters?"
"Yes, though I don't fault you for asking, you are the first human to come here in a long time…much time has passed. But don't be afraid, I shall guide you through the catacombs."
"O-Okay."
Toriel smiled brighter before turning around to the large doorway that had gone unnoticed to him in the scuffle. More pillars of Greek-like design with the same symbol Toriel had above it. Turning back Izuku picked up what he could of his backpack and supplies. Maybe it could be fixed…his books and notebook though…a work in progress that will need to be fully replaced…maybe today was going to be good.
Today was freaking terrible. It seemed boringly average coming in, average fodder going on their usual NPC lives. But throughout the day he got looks of pity, PITY? Over and over questions about his physical and mental health and a stupid meeting with the principal and the useless student counselor. He was perfect, the purest of quality diamonds and some stupid villain made him the 'pitiful person with trauma'? Stupid fodder!
What's even worse? That stupid nerd wasn't even there today! He's never not here! Hell, the nerd only didn't come unless something serious like sickness or death hit him. Though maybe that incident…
"Stupid Deku, if you were so scared by a living pile of crap why do you even think you're able to be a hero…"
Bakugou muttered this, more in an attempt to push his anger away and that lingering sense of drowning he had felt each time someone brought up that stupid villain. After school he walked to the fountain. Sitting on a bench near a close koi pond, needing a moment to try and suppress his anger before it went too far. Though of course he couldn't get a moment of kami-forsaken peace as his two fodder cronies decided to show themselves.
"Hey Bakugo, you good-"
"SHUT IT FINGERS FOR BRAINS! I've been with too much 'oh you okay?' bullshit all day, I don't need you two joining it!"
"A-Alright, geez…"
'Fingers for brains' shirked back in fear of getting hit by Bakugou's explosion. His fellow crony moved between them.
"Woah, woah, we aren't here to fight Bakugo…we just wanted to see if you wanted to head to the arcade? Heard they got a new Street Fighters Ultra 25K."
"Hmph…that does sound better than staying in this shithole, come on then fodder."
He got up, putting his hands in his pockets before striding away, forcing dumb and dumber to run. If there was anything that could calm him down, it was putting Deku in his place and fighting games.
Bakugou couldn't put Deku in his place currently, but that would be for him to deal with tomorrow. Though little does he know that his victim being gone one day was only the beginning.
Chapter 2 down and done! Sorry if the placement for ending this chapter is bad but well, this chapter got away from me and needed to round it out some way. Anyways, how was it? Somewhat slow? Yeah, I've got four things I want to say and one involves that.
1. This fanfiction and sorta AU is a merge of My Hero Academia and Undertale, as Flowey said the world isn't a game. Though some things will be said as game jargon like HP, Exp, etc. Concept of RESET exists as well, but as for why? It will be a long while away from being known.
2. Katsuki Bakugou and Toshinori Yagi, story wise, share the spot for secondary protagonists. This will not be a 'All Might bashing' or 'Bakugou Bashing' as while I hate Middle school Bakugou from personal experience I don't hate their development. But this story's jump off point being after the sludge villain incident with Izuku being seen as dead will massively affect them both as individuals and will play an on and off secondary story for this story. I now take this time to say bless Inko since this concept sadly is the worst for her.
3. This version of Undertale story wise will be an expansion of the original. It will speed up at times but do expect to see side stories for fun/developing Izuku on his own path. Characters from Undertale Yellow, Deltarune, and maybe others? Though even after everything, I have long term plans for the sequel. A bit of a spoiler but I hope to have this timeline wise be 4-6 months, given that the timeframe for the sequel follows up with MHA's world dealing with Izuku and the many monsters of the underground! But that is for another time.
4. I will not have a consistent schedule, for how odd my work schedule can be and not to overstress my mental health. It's for the best. Though if a major roadblock occurs I will add either a new chapter to note it till that note gets replaced by a real chapter, or place it at the end of a chapter.
Anyways, with all those out of the way, I'd love to hear any reviews/critiques to better help me in writing or you're viewing. Evarstar101, signing out!
