Chapter 5
Hoshi's eyes flickered open. Her first realization was that she was in her own bed. She looked around, all was quiet in her room. She could hear the slight reassuring hum of the engine on half impulse. She stood up and felt an unsettling spin in her head. She stood for a moment trying to get her balance. Once she felt better, she took off out of her quarters and ran down the length of the gang way towards the turbo lift. She got in and pressed the button for the bridge.
"Where is the captain," she asked of T'Pol.
"He is in his ready room, is there a problem Ensign,"
Hoshi shook her head as she headed over and pressed the button. On his command she stepped in. She waited for the door to close before she began to speak. He turned to face her with a smile.
"What can I do for ye Hoshi," he asked.
"There's something here captain," she said trying not to hyperventilate. "I know what this sounds like, but something took me over, something from that planet. It's been with me for over two weeks."
Tears began to gather in her eyes as she spoke. "Maybe longer I have lost all track of time. Please captain, we have to do something, she's dangerous."
He got up from his chair and went to her. Without warning he clamped a fisted hand onto the front of her shirt and rammed her up against the wall. He forced his other hand over her mouth so that she couldn't scream. She stared back at him with large, scared eyes. His face was so close she could feel his breath on her skin.
"You keep your mouth shut bitch, soon we will be at my home planet and then me and Trip will be married. You will have to house me until then."
"I won't, I swear I'll …."
"You'll do nothing." She slammed her head against the wall again making Hoshi wince in pain.
Fara smiled, "I know it Hoshi, the one with the dark skin, the one they call Travis he is your friend. You do not want anything to happen to Travis. You would never want to kill Travis would you Hoshi."
Hoshi stared back in terror.
"Now just remember if you decide to slip me a wrong word or a wrong name, Travis could be persuaded to enter your quarters and there he will be killed by your hand Hoshi, is that what you want?"
Anok Fara stepped back away from the girl then. Hoshi felt a serge of dread as she realized she was trapped.
"Just don't get any ideas," Anok Fara said as she rose up and returned to her spot in Hoshi's mind.
Archer staggered forward and Fara caught him.
"Sir, are you alright?" She said innocently as she put him sitting down.
"What just happened?" he asked.
"I was asking you about having time off next week and you just lost your balance for a moment. Should I summon Dr. Phlox."
Archer took a breath, "no, I'm fine. So, what day did you want?"
"Er Wednesday," Fara had to think fast.
"Wednesday will be fine. Please leave me Hoshi, I need a minute."
Her prim little figure skipped out of the room and the door closed after her with a slight hiss. Archer put a hand to his face as he tried to recall the last thing he could remember. He had a vague sense of being very near Hoshi. He could smell her perfume on his clothes. What happened. After a second, he collected his thoughts. He went to his computer and hit a set of on screen buttons. Then he sat at his console to watch.

She found Trip in the Rec room, thankfully he was alone. She poured herself some coffee and took the seat directly beside him.
"I can't stay angry with you for long," she purred.
He got up and went to the window.
"Come on, so we had words. All couples fight sometimes."
"We're not a couple." He told her. "I don't even know who you are."
She walked slowly over to him a simpering smile on her face.
"Can't you guess who I am?"
"How bout you just tell me."
"I'll give you a clue."
"TELL ME." He yelled out.
She lost her smile at his tone. "Alright then, I'm Anok Fara, that poor fool who loves you unconditionally. I've been here on the ship for the last month."
"What the hell do you think you're doing."
"She's fine, she's having a sleep. Haven't you ever had someone love you. I did this for love. I'm not a bad person. I just love you."
"You get the hell out of her, or I swear…" He took a step towards her, but she ran to a countertop and grabbed a knife. Trip froze, she turned the knife inward and pointed it to Hoshi's stomach.
"I'll kill her, I swear I will."
"Put the knife down."
"You listen to me Trip Tucker," she spoke through clenched teeth. "We belong together you and me. This ship is on course to meet my home planet in two days and then we will be married. I love you Trip, I have enough love for both of us. I could kill Hoshi Trip. I don't want to but I could kill her and then just move on to another host."
"You could kill just about everyone on this ship, I still wouldn't care a dam about you."
She trembled with hurt and anger at his words.

Malcolm was sitting up reading a book. It was a historic book on the life of Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his handling of the 2020 pandemic. It was absorbing enough to take his mind off his troubles. He was surprised to see Archer suddenly appear around the curtain.
"Is that a good book?" He asked.
"Quite good Sir," Malcolm wasn't about to do small talk.
He leveled his gaze at the captain.
"Malcolm, I need to talk to you…."
"What about, if I'm being transported Sir I would prefer to tell my parents myself,"
"You're not being transported, you're being reinstated."
"Reinstated," Malcolm put the book aside.
Archer gave him a sheepish look, "Reinstated with a full apology."
"I'm afraid I don't understand."
"You know how you had that camera installed in my ready room and I wasn't pleased."
"Yes sir, you said it was an invasion of your privacy. I still think it is a measured response to the security issues we have had lately but I will have it uninstalled."
Archer took a bright green cassette from his pocket. He took Malcolms Padd and put the cassette in.
"Watch this."
Malcolm watched as Hoshi entered the room and Archer put her up against the wall.
"Oh dear," he muttered.
Once the tape had finished, he looked up at the captain.
"I have no recollection whatsoever of that happening. All I remember is I came round, and Hoshi helped me to the chair."
"Welcome to the club Sir."
Archer was about to speak when there was suddenly an announcement over the com.
"Ensign Hart to sickbay, medical emergency in Recreation room deck 7."
Archer looked to Malcolm, "Trip was there waiting for T'Pol to finish her shift."
Archer headed out. Malcolm came off the bed and followed him. There was a crowd gathered outside the room. Doctor Phlox pushed them aside and went in followed by Archer and Reed. Archer froze as Trip was sitting on the ground a pool of deep crimson blood on his leg. He could see then the hand wrapped in a towel. Ensign Hart was beside him holding the wound tight. Trip grimaced in pain, his face was deathly pale. Dr. Phlox was about to give him a hypo spray into the neck to curb the pain but Trip put a hand up fending him off.
"Captain, she's on the bridge. It's not Hoshi. Captain you have to save Hoshi," Sweat ran rivers down his face as a fever began to take hold. Dr. Phlox gently put his hand down and gave him the spray into the neck.
Archer had to leave the scene. He ran out and headed towards the turbo lift. On the way he punched in a password and took two phasers handing one to Malcolm who was coming behind. They burst onto the bridge to find Fara standing in the middle trying to direct the others.
"Ah the captain, I was just explaining to this Vulcan woman that I need to get to my home planet. I am to be married there in a couple of days to your chief engineer."
"You're not going anywhere," Archer told her.
She smiled, "oh really,"
Without warning she left Hoshi's body and entered Archer. It was so instantaneous that no one noticed until it was too late. He smacked T'Pol sending her to the floor. He walked over and took hold of her arm bringing her up to face him.
"We are going to my home planet Sara Satin and there's nothing you can do Vulcan. You will do exactly…."
Fara laughed as T'Pol put hands to Archer's face. Did she really think she could defend herself like that. The smile soon began to fall away from Archer's face.
"My mind is your mind, our minds are merging, our minds are one. I feel what you feel, I know what you know."
Fara tried to move back but Malcolm and Travis were quick to pin Archer's arms and hold him in place. She found she could not release herself and travel to another body as T'Pol had merged with her mind. T'Pol saw everything, the first encounter with Trip, tricking Hoshi into coming back to the compound, merging with Malcolm's mind so that she could attack Hoshi. T'Pol held her there as inwardly Fara screamed in terror. She had always been free to play with people as she saw fit but to be held down in one body and her thoughts probed in this manner. No matter how much she struggled T'Pol kept her there and found everything, the whole truth. Finally, she let her go. Frantically she left Archers body and fled to the safe comfort of Hoshi where she had lived since boarding the ship.
They knew immediately as Archer staggered forward. T'Pol turned to Hoshi.
She grinned back at her. "You see I can just transport into someone else. You think that scared me; I'll just hide in someone else's body.
She tried to laugh but they could see she was shaken from the experience.
"I know you now, regardless of where you hide, I will find you." T'Pol told her.
She pulled a face that made Hoshi look ugly. "You slimy parasitic humans, why am I demeaning myself in your presence. Oily pink skinned animals. You tell Charles Trip Tucker the third I have forgotten him already. It is over. Fuck him and his crew of…. Seti Alpha swine."
T'Pol took a step towards her, "are you finished?"
Anok Fara lept upwards out of Hoshi. The humans covered their ears as she screamed a sound like knife grating though metal. It hurt their ears and sent charts and cups crashing to the floor. She then spun out through the roof.
Archer caught hold of Hoshi. "Seal the hull plating," he ordered.
"There is no need, she won't be back." T'Pol told him. "It seems the presence of a logical mind is terrifying to her. As much as she likes to invade, she does not relish the experience of being invaded."
Hoshi tried to bat him away, she cried out in panic as she tried to pull away from him. Archer caught hold of her slim arms and forced her to look at him.
"Hoshi, look at me, you're safe now. It's me Hoshi. She's gone. She's gone. You're safe."
Hoshi's face began to flush, and her chin trembled as she tried hard to control her emotions. She put a hand over her eyes and tried to gain control. Archer was having none of it. He took hold and gently brought her in for a hug. For a moment she hid her face in his shirt.
"That's it, let it out," he told her gently as she began to cry.

That evening T'Pol went to see Trip in sickbay. Dr. Phlox had given him something to help him sleep but he told her she could have a few minutes with him. She was satisfied to see that his hand was all strapped up and he looked comfortable sitting up in bed.
"So, what you get up to tonight?" Trip asked with a tired smile.
"The captain ordered that movie night should continue as scheduled and that we should attend."
"I'm pretty sure he didn't make that mandatory did he. "Trip grinned.
"Of course, you were excused because of your injury." T'Pol told him.
"Glad to hear it," he smiled. "So did Travis play House on Haunted Hill?"
"No, he couldn't find that one."
"I left it out, how could he not find it. What did he play instead."
"I believe it was an old Television show called The Dukes of Hazzard."
"Ah the old Dukes, I love that show."
T'Pol showed in her face that she did not share his opinion.
"What's wrong with the Duke boys, car chases, smash ups, what's not to like."
T'Pol thought for a moment before answering.
"The Sheriff of Hazzard County follows them for some distance in his car," she said.
"Yeah, the car chases, they're great."
"But he knows where they live, why waste the fuel needed to chase them. He could send a summons to appear in court to their house."
Trips smile faded. He frowned as he thought that one over.
"Yeah, he could but…" he frowned again.
"It's not logical." T'Pol said.
So, that's ruined forever. What's playing next week?" Trip asked.
The End.
