Alice enters Jill's bedroom shifting nervously. "Soooo... I brought something you are either going to find cute and loveable or are going to roll your eyes and call me sappy." Alice states leaning in the doorframe.
Alice doesn't normally get nervous around Jill. Not anymore at least. Over time Alice has learnt to drop her walls one by one until Alice allowed herself to be completely vulnerable with her. And by doing that Alice's nerves and fears around Jill slowly started to disappear. So, it's surprising how nervous Alice is acting now.
Deciding to try and lighten her girlfriend's mood, she goes for the light hearted approach rather then asking what Alice brought. "I'm going to call you sappy either way." Jill jokes sitting up in bed giving Alice her full attention. Alice scoffs amusingly at her response. "What. You are sappy. And mushy. And every other word which relates to being a romantic at heart."
It was a surprising thing to learn about the woman but it's an endearing trait. One Jill is more than happy to endure.
Alice sends her that lopsided smile that reflects in her eyes. One of those smiles that Jill will admit makes her melt. "Only for you." She mutters shyly.
"See Sappy."
Alice lets out a small laugh before shaking her head. "You know what I'm not going to show you now." Her tone is light telling Jill she isn't offended or anything like that. Instead, Alice is playing along with this little joke to help ease her nerves.
"Alice." Jill draws out.
Chuckling Alice makes her way over to the edge of the bed sounding more confident than she did in the doorway. "Nope, you've ruined it and don't deserve to see my love for you shining through."
Jill feels her own curiosity pique at hearing this. What could Alice have bought to show that. She knows it's not anything sexual. When Alice does do things like that, she prefers to tease Jill before revealing it. Not the nervous energy from before so whatever it is new to both of them. "No. Please. I'm sorry."
Alice fake pouts towards her. "No, you're not."
"Yes, I am." Jill resorts pushing the covers back and shuffling closer to the blonde haired woman.
An amused glare is sent her way. "Your laughter is a clear sign of that."
"Alice... Come on." Jill pleads climbing onto her girlfriend's lap.
She watches in amusement and satisfaction at the way Alice's breathing hitches and her cheeks blush at the movement. "Ok..." Alice gasps out before clearing her throat slightly only increasing Jill's amusement at the situation. "Don't laugh or anything."
"Promise."
Alice takes a deep breath before she starts her explanation. "Ok… So… Originally, I bought it as a joke that the two of us could laugh at…. But then the idea kind of grew on me. So… Yeah…. Anyways since… you know… We're keeping our relationship quiet…. I wanted to get something that would remind me of you…. For you know… when I have to work out of the city or things like that…. And I can also use it as a way to calm myself when you're not around…. Which really sucks by the way… Not the point….
As much as Jill finds it adorable how when she gets nervous Alice will begin to ramble, she knows that with each word Alice is losing confidence in herself and that is something Jill will not abide to see. "Alice." She interrupts placing her finger on her girlfriend's lips effectively silencing her. "Calm down and breathe... Better..."
"Better."
"Good." She watches as Alice takes a deep breath and once again tries to lighten the mood. "Although you are cute when you nervously ramble like that."
Alice blushes even more at this. "Thank you."
Sensing that Alice has calmed down slightly Jill tries to bring the conversation back to what Alice wanted to show her. "Now what did you buy."
"This..." Alice then reaches just under the top of her nightgown and pulls out a pendant necklace. But not just any pendent. Hanging around Alice's neck is a metal replica of the STAR's police badge. Stars is written on a golden metal slab under the bottom of the eagle heat which makes the top of the badge. STARS is above the logo and name of the Raccoon City Police Department emblem. Police is also on a gold slab under that with the full version of what stars stands for under that. The rest of the badge is the classic silver shield.
"Wow…" is all Jill can say as she takes the pendant in between her fingers. A wave of emotions washes over her at the sight of Alice wearing it around her neck. Is it wrong of her to like Alice wearing her badge as like some kind of claim over her. A way to tell everyone to stay away from her girlfriend.
Them keeping their relationship secret was designed in order to protect Jill's job within the Raccoon City. Dating Alice a high level Umbrella officer would not go down well. Hence why no one really knows about them. But the idea of Alice wearing something that symbolizes her. That's just wow.
"Is that a good wow or a bad wow… I can't tell." Alice asks eyes narrowing in confusion as she tilts her head to the side trying to figure Jill's reaction out.
"Good wow," Jill assures her. "Very good wow." So good in fact that Jill can't help but kiss Alice. A building desire to claim Alice in other ways starts to rear its head.
"Oh... Good, I'm glad." That lopsided smile returns. "I was thinking if you liked it… and allowed it. I would engrave the back with your name and badge number." Jill's name and badge number. Jill's claim on Alice. Leaning up Jill presses a lingering kiss onto the blonde's lips.
Alice...
Jill can barely believe what she is saying. She has to blink a few times in order to wake up from this dream yet when she does that nothing changes. A few feet in front of her is Alice. Alice is alive. Alice is here.
Something drops to the floor, but Jill doesn't pay it any attention instead she takes off running launching herself at Alice who easily takes her in her embrace keeping the two of them steady as Jill latches on to Alice as tightly as she can.
Her head is screaming Alice's name over and over again in disbelief. "I thought you were dead." Jill somehow manages to gasp out into Alice's neck. For over a week she was sure Alice was dead. That her investigation was discovered, and she was disposed of. That she would never find out the truth. That she would die in this forsaken city alone.
The arms that were wrapped around her tighten at her admission. "I was for a time, but things happened." Wait what. Alice was dead. Did Umbrella do something to her. Pulling back from the hug Jill is about to ask what Alice means when their eyes meet.
Jill has always loved Alice's eyes. Back before Jill learnt to read Alice so well it was always her eyes that gave Jill a glimpse into what she was thinking. The way they seem like a shining emerald green when she's happy. The dullness of them when she was sad. The spark of life when she finds something interesting. Jill loved seeing Alice's feelings displayed in her eyes.
Her very green eyes.
So why is it that when Jill looks into Alice's eyes right now that they aren't green. But are instead a dark stormy blue.
Taking a closer look Jill realises it's not just Alice's eyes that are different. Alice's hair was a golden colour. She used to joke Alice's hair used to shine brighter than the sun. Alice of course would always scoff and roll her eyes. But now it's not a golden colour. It's darker. Not all that much that if you weren't paying attention, you would miss it. But there is no denying that her golden hair is more honey blonde now. Maybe darker then that even.
Alice must see something on her face. Shock or confusion. In response, she strokes some loose strands of her from her cheek and behind her ear. "I'll explain everything once we get somewhere safe," Alice tells her before her voice turns much softer as she runs her up and down her cheek savouring the feeling of being able to touch Jill once again. "I've missed you, Jill."
"I've missed you too." Alice has no idea how much she has missed her.
"Can we please get out of here." Terri interrupts their tender reunion before they could even kiss. The glare Jill sends Terri has the reporter stepping back and doing everything in her power to avoid meeting Jill's blazing gaze.
Peyton ever the protector hobbles up next to Terri. "She's right that fire is spreading we should go."
"The front is crawling with infected. I saw them coming in." Alice falls away from her grasp heading back towards the shattered window. "Come on the faster we get out of here the better." Shooting one last glare towards Terri, Jill sets off following Alice through the broken glass into the graveyard.
Hoping down the small gap Alice turns to Jill offering her a hand to jump down. "How chivalrous." Jill jokes taking her hand. The blonde has always been like that. Opening and shutting doors for her always offering to help her up and down places. If someone else tried that with her she would roll her eyes but on Alice it was cute.
Alice then offers her hand to Terri while Jill helps Peyton. Jill looks towards Alice as she helps Terri down. Almost always when Alice does something like that and Jill calls her out on it Alice would then mockingly bow and say, 'My Lady' acting like her gallant knight. The fact Alice didn't do that here is strange. But given the state of everything she really can't blame her.
Still, something is nagging at Jill. The slight change in behaviour, the change in eye and hair colour. What happened to Alice in the time she disappeared for.
"How'd you end up here anyways," Alice asks taking point her eyes jumping from one side of the graveyard to the other scouting for any infected. They wait until she is sure nothing is coming right at them before taking off. Peyton keeps an eye behind them just in case the door holding back the infected is broken down and they are ambushed from behind.
"Well, we tried leaving the city, but Umbrella sealed off Raven's Gate," Alice looks back towards her with a raised eyebrow. Seeing that just one escape route was cut off Jill explains that it's not just the gate but the entire city. How they managed to get everything up so quickly she doesn't know. But maybe Alice and shed some light on the situation "Put up a nice big wall to keep the riffraff in. Anyone approaching the wall was shot on site... repeatedly. On Cain's order." Jill still can't believe that happened. Umbreall just opened fire on innocent civilians. How could they do that.
She expected Alice to look horrified by the order like she was. Shocked or taken back. She expected Alice to glare at the ground at the mention of Cain like she always does. Except Alice doesn't do that. She seems more confused than anything. This is furthered by how Alice tilts her head to the side slightly like she does when she doesn't understand something. "Who."
Who… what does she main who. "Cain… your language buddy and the man you hate with every fibre of your being. The one you would complain about all the time." Alice's head tilts slightly more as if she can't understand who Jill is on about.
Alice doesn't say anything in regards to Cain just nodding to herself before taking setting off towards the graveyard. "So, you came to church," Alice asks moving the conversation on which sets some alarm bells off in Jill's head. Alice is acting differently than normal. It's like Alice is there but something isn't right about her. Jill can't explain it, but something is off.
"Seemed safer than the street. But it seems that nowhere is safe anymore." Before she could ask Alice any questions on what is going on Terri notices where they are heading.
"And what the fuck are we doing here," Terri shouts popping another round of pills into her mouth. She will have to keep an eye on that. "Hello. Has anyone noticed we are in a graveyard."
"You're welcome to stay back in the church if you like," Alice replies not breaking her stride or looking back. Jill pauses in her wake watching Alice walk ahead. That was weird. Alice is normally the first person to comfort and explain things to people. Jill is normally the straight to the point and no bullshit type.
Following into step behind she nods towards Terri reassuring her it's better to follow Alice then stay behind. "Alice what happened, why did you disappear."
"How much do you know about my job," Alice asks much to Jill's confusion.
"How much do I know." She repeats hers flicking to Peyton who looks as lost as she is. "You know that. You told me everything." Ok, something is really wrong here. Why is Alice asking her this. What is going on.
What the fuck did Umbrella do to her.
Alice sighs as the group comes to a stop. Alice turns back to face her ready to explain when she notices Peyton limping and leaning on a grave. Jill watches as Alice looks down to his bloodied leg then watches in horror as the darker shade of blonde woman draws her gun onto Peyton.
Jill reacts drawing her own gun onto Alice. She may not have any bullets, but Alice doesn't know that. Her action was made not to threaten Alice but to stop her from killing her friend. "What do you think you are doing Kyiv," Jil asks out through gritted teeth. Her own frustration over everything reaching the surface.
The city is a mess, everyone is dying, Umbrella are murdering everyone and to top it off Alice is not acting like Alice. What is going on.
"He's infected," Alice states coldly like she isn't pointing a gun at one of her few friends outside of Umbrella. "The infection is spreading. Better to deal with it now then later." She says like she isn't talking about shooting someone. A friend even.
Because by dealing with it, she means to murder him. "No," Jill says firmly still not understanding what Alice is doing. Her girlfriend although a fantastic fighter and shooter never uses violence as a first option. Fear of being like her father has her always talking a situation through first. Not drawing guns on her friends. "That is not happening. Put the gun down Alice we're not murdering anyone."
"I'm fine," Peyton states wincing as he tries to stand up.
"No, you're not. Your infected." Alice replies but keeps her eyes locked with Jill's "It just takes one bit or scratch and that's it." It's a warning. A grim reminder that it doesn't take much to end up like the cannibalistic monsters lurking around.
Shaking her head Jill tries to reach her girlfriend. "Alice."
But Alice won't let her. "I know he's your friend, but it will be harder to kill him WHEN he ambushes us." That may be but they can't go around shooting anyone who has been bitten. They still need Peyton. Maybe there is a cure or something to help him. Umbrella wouldn't create something without something to counteract it. It's how they made their billions.
Alice told her how they create a bioweapon and an antidote and sell each to every country. A biological arms race but Umbrella are not stupid enough to create something without having some way to stop it from wiping them out. They have to at least try. "Alice."
"I didn't kill Rain when she got bitten." Alice's voice strains at the mention of her best friend. And Jill feels perturbation build within her as Alice keeps talking filling in some of the gaps in her disappearance. "I kept out hope that she would be ok. And when she turned and nearly killed us." Rain's dead… Fuck. Now she knows why no one was picking up.
Nearly killed us. Did someone else make it out with Alice. Was Rain the only one to die or did all the commodes turn. Surely if they or Spencer made it out they would have stuck together. So, either Alice left them to find her. Or everyone dead.
She feels like it may be the latter.
Either way, she can't let Alice kill Peyton. Keeping eye contact with Alice she lowers her own gun which for a second seems to relax Alice as her shoulders drop some of its tension. Only for that to spring right back up when Jill takes a step forward making sure Alice's gun is touching her neck. "No. If it comes to it, I will do it myself." Jill makes it very clear that she won't allow Alice to fire the shot and if she tries to kill Peyton she will have to kill her first.
With the gun pressed against her neck and Alice looking at her like she can't decide what to do next reminds Jill of what Alice once told her after one of the nights Alice's demons were more powerful than her. Jill was asking Alice to let her in but Alice had just looked at her seemingly lost and confused. "You don't get it Jill. You haven't been broken and hurt over and over again like me. How each betrayal is just a painful reminder not to trust anyone... to love you is the same as me handing you a gun and having you aim it at my heart praying that you will never pull the trigger when so many overs have without regret or remorse."
"No." Alice's voice softens as she lowers her guns from both her and Peyton. A sigh of relief escapes Jill at seeing this. "You shouldn't have to put your friend down. When it's time. And I give it an hour maybe two. I'll deal with it." She then turns to address Peyton. "It's nothing personally. But when you turn you will become a danger to us. Try to kill us and if you catch off guard you will kill or infect Jill or ..." Alice turns to look at Terri who is recording this entire exchange. " I'm sorry I don't know who you are."
Terri nervously shifts under Alice's gaze. "Terri Morales." She answers quietly.
Alice turns back to Peyton picking up where she left off. "You will try to kill Jill and Terri and I can't allow that to happen."
Peyton meets Alice's cold gaze with his own not backing down to her. "I understand but like I said I'm fine."
Sheathing her guns Alice shrugs. "Suit yourself." It's clear Alice doesn't like this plan but concedes to it nonetheless.
Terri turns to Alice "So what's the plan."
"First we need more weapons and ammo Knives of blunt objects will also be useful." Alice turns back to her and Peyton. "To kill the infected, you need to destroy the brain or sever the spinal cord just below the neck. Fastest and easiest way to kill them. Lickers you need to cause substantial damage to the exposed brain. A pistol won't cut it. Dog like lickers move fast but die the same way as human infected do."
Alice seems to know a lot about killing infected... "Wait dogs can become infected." Fuck the last thing they need is to be chased with no ammo by a pack of infected dogs.
"Anything can become infected," Alice replies grimly but reaches out to take her hand attempting to offer some kind of comfort to this new development. Something Jill is grateful for. "Do you know where the nearest gun shop is."
"Yeah, it's about-"Jill's answer was cut off when Terri let out a high-pitched scream and collapsed to the ground as the dead started crawling out from their graves. "OH FUCK."
"We don't have to do this you know," Jill calls out as Alice finishes touching up her makeup in the bathroom while Jill plays on her phone. As excited as she is to be going out with Alice tonight she knows how difficult it is for Alice.
One of Jill's old high school friends is opening up a nightclub tonight and begged Jill to come to the opening. At first, Jill was all for it. It's been so long since she's had a night out with her friends. Work has been killing her lately and when she does get home all she wants to do is curl up with Alice. So a night out does sound fun as she has the day off tomorrow.
That was until her friend mentioned hearing how Jill was in a relationship now and was looking forward to meeting said person.
Which brings them to now. Alice had agreed to come out with her, but Jill knows that a nightclub is far from something Alice would be comfortable attending and is only going for her.
Alice pokes her head out of the bathroom smiling sweetly towards her. "I know. But this is important to you." Alice leans back into the bathroom as she continues speaking. "Besides I've been to nightclubs before. I can handle it."
Hearing this Jill freezes in her seat. Dread starts pooling in her stomach as she stands up and makes her way over to the bathroom. The last time Alice said this was when they were attending a police charity event and Alice had been a mess leading up to it and after it. Yes, she made it through the event but Jill knew she was constantly struggling hiding behind her mask as bad memories swarmed her brain.
Before Jill could enter the bathroom Alice called out again. "This isn't like the gala. I'm not as screwed up about things like this."
"You're not screwed up Alice." Jill retorts.
Alice slips out of the bathroom and immediately leans in and kisses her. "I am. But I love that you accept my brokenness."
"Alice." Jill goes to start a disagreement on this issue, but Alice is quick to silence her with another kiss.
"I never said being broken was a bad thing. How else would you be able to fill me up with light." Ok, that was kind of sweet. Jill will give her that. "Thank you for worrying about me and checking my boundaries." Alice gives her another small kiss. "But I'm fine with this. It's only a few hours and then we will be back here in our bed having a much better time."
Jill raises an eyebrow at hearing this. "Oh, is that so." She challenges. All she gets in response is Alice's flirty smirk. Taking in Alice's confidence Jill finally draws her gaze from Alice's face to see what she's wearing. "Oh wow."
Alice leans to brush her lips against Jill's ear. "If you think that now wait till you see what I'm wearing under it."
