City Terrain (Day)

When the window was shot, Greninja pushed Shoji to the ground to protect him from being hurt by whatever was shooting the windows.

"Jiro, are you okay?" Yaoyorozu asked, kneeling next to her friend.

"Yeah, I'm fine." the girl answered, blood dripping from her ear.

"They must know our Quirks and weaknesses." Shoji figured out, standing up. "They blinded us and cut off any sound coming from outside. They did their homework with this."

Greninja's tongue twitched again. A split second before an electrified pellet was shot at Jiro, the Pokemon used Water Shuriken to get rid of the projectile. Another twitch. It used Night Slash to protect Shoji from another projectile. Furious, the Ninja Pokemon charged up a Water Shuriken and blasted one of the windows away, revealing the outside of the building. Unfortunately, it failed to anticipate the electric pellet shooting straight at it.

In an effort to avoid the shot, Greninja ducked out of the way. At the last second, however, its tongue was grazed by the pellet. Electricity surged through its body, cutting down its HP until it was no longer able to remain standing. In mere moments, the Pokemon fell unconscious.

Santalune Forest (Day)

Froakie awoke to a bizarre sight.

A human with golden blonde hair and emerald eyes was kneeling over it with a wooden bowl. The boy dumped the contents of the bowl on the small Pokemon, dousing it in water. "Are you okay?" he asked, a worried expression on his face. "We saw you being attacked by a swarm of Weedle and Kakuna. You were nearly Poisoned."

Looking to the side, Froakie saw a mostly-eaten Oran Berry, as well as a Charmander and a Chespin.

"If you're okay to move on your own, we'll be going now." the boy said, picking up Chespin as Charmander climbed up his body. "But please, no more picking fights with Weedle." With that, the boy walked away from the Bubble Frog Pokemon.

Deep within its heart, Froakie felt something. A sensation that told it that the path to getting stronger was with this strange child. Determined, the Pokemon rushed in front of the boy and stopped him from proceeding.

"Do you want to come with me?" the boy asked, confused. Froakie nodded in affirmation, ready. "Well, who am I to deprive you of this? Poke Ball, go!" The blonde tossed a Poke Ball at the amphibian Pokemon, encapsulating it in seconds. After three shakes, the Poke Ball flashed green, and the boy picked it up.

City Terrain (Day)

Feeling something cold covering its body, Greninja awoke to see Yaoyorozu pouring a bucket of water on its head. Looking around, it saw that Asui and Jiro were both unconscious, and Shoji was busy trying to keep Asui warm, as the room was currently freezing.

"Greninja, we need your help." Yaoyorozu pleaded. "I don't have enough energy to attack our opponents outside and melt the ice in here, so please lend us your strength."

Straining its body, Greninja pushed itself off the floor until it was standing upright again. Feeling a burning sensation in its thighs, it looked down to see that its mucus glands were badly damaged. It wouldn't be able to use Water Shuriken while they were in that condition. Its eyes quickly darted to the right, where it could sense the Aura of another person behind a door that was welded shut. Closing its eyes, it focused Poison-Type energy into its arms and formed a blob of toxic sludge. With a grunt of exertion, the Pokemon shot Gunk Shot at the door, melting through it and instantly knocking out the person behind it.

With an opponent successfully defeated, adrenaline surged through Greninja's veins as its Aura went into overdrive. The water Yaoyorozu spilled on the ground swirled around the Pokemon, forming a cyclone of water that broke through the ceiling of the room. Within the crashing waves, Greninja transformed, its Aura visible to everyone in the room.

"So this is what Asui was talking about." Yaoyorozu said, amazed. The giant Water Shuriken on Greninja's back was proof of the sheer power it held inside itself.

With its deep red eyes, Greninja looked down at the green-haired girl as she shivered in Shoji's arms. It knelt down, despite the pain in its legs, and put one of its hands on Asui's forehead. With a deep breath, the Pokemon sent some of its Aura into the girl, warming her up by a substantial amount. It then directed its attention back to the large door in front of it.

Traveling with Dominic taught it many things, most of which regarded how to properly souffle a pancake. However, one of the more impactful lessons it learned was the importance of bonds. It liked Asui for her curiosity and skill with her Quirk, as well as how much she reminded it of its time as a Froakie, and it was absolutely livid that she was being hurt like this.

Sensing the Auras on the other side of the door, Greninja gripped the Water Shuriken on its back. With the waves of conviction surging in its heart, it spun the Shuriken around, gathering water particles from the air to strengthen the power of the attack. With a loud cry, Greninja threw the shuriken, and the attack shredded through the door. Its opponents were caught completely off-guard by the attack, and were quickly knocked out by its detonation when it stopped spinning.

Exhausted, Greninja reverted back to its original form and limply fell to the ground before Yaoyorozu caught it. "Thank you so much." she said, grateful.

"Why would you risk your chance of winning on this creature?" a white-haired girl in a dress said, sitting weakly against a wall in the hallway. "It could've easily betrayed you and left for its master."

"There was no risk of that." Yaoyorozu said. "Greninja is a friend of Xiao-Long, and Xiao-Long is a friend of ours. It's a member of Class 1A, just like us!"

If it were capable of it with its tongue hanging out, the Pokemon would've smiled at the girl's words.

Snowbelle Gym (Day)

With an explosive Water Shuriken, Greninja, with Battle Bond activated, knocked out Wulfric's Avalugg. The Pokemon, tired from the long battle, fell to its knees as it went back to its normal form. Just before it fully collapsed, its trainer held its torso and kept it from falling.

"That's one heck of a partner you got there, kid!" Wulfric said, calling Avalugg back into its Poke Ball. "I've never seen a Water Shuriken that strong before. That Greninja must really trust you to keep battling even after it reached its limit."

The blonde and his Pokemon looked at each other for a few seconds before laughing. "Yeah, I guess you could say that." the boy said, thinking back to all the battles where Greninja put its everything into winning.

"You should treasure that bond. It's not often one experiences that kind of kinship with a Pokemon." Wulfric said, proud. Reaching into his jacket, he retrieved a small blue bauble. "You've earned this, both of you. As the Gym Leader of the Snowbelle Gym, I give you the Iceberg Badge."

The boy took the Badge from Wulfric's hand, marveling at how it gleamed in the artificial light of the Gym. "Don't worry. We'll make sure to remember your words, Wulfric." he said with a wide grin. "Now, off to the Pokemon League!" He pumped his arm into the air, an action that was mirrored by Greninja.

As they left his Gym, Wulfric couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in helping them on their journey. Those two were destined for greatness, he just knew it.
