When they got back to the apartment building Shaggy called the rest of the gang at the convention. Daphne said they would try to get there soon, but everyone was hunkered down for an incoming hurricane. She told Shaggy to be brave and to take care of the Louds and Casagrandes. As everyone gathered around the Casagrande's dinner table they recounted what happened to Maria, Carlos, Frida, and Hector.
"Mom, it was so scary, cackling wails, and red smoke everywhere. We didn't know there were ghosts inside that chest, I'm so sorry!" Ronnie Anne admitted on the verge of tears.
"Honey calm down, you could not have known. Nobody blames you for what happened" Maria comforted her daughter.
"Well that Mr. Van Ghoul seemed like he was blaming us" Carlota interrupted.
"Like don't worry, Mr. Van Ghoul's just trying to hammer home how important it is that those ghosts go back into the chest" Shaggy explained while taking a plate full of tamales.
"It is all quite unbelievable, that chest was clearly over 1,000 years old. The carving is ornate, on the handle is clearly of medieval origins. I wonder if it was created to a specific ghost from its land of origin before becoming a prison for thirteen" Carlos Casagrande contemplated.
"I don't know if they'll give us that backstory while we're literally trying to recapture them, Mr. Casagrande," Lori replied.
"And how exactly are you supposed to find these ghosts? Or is ot a whole they'll come to you sort of thing?" Hector asked.
"For now we've voted to wait on Mr. Van Ghoul to contact us with more details," Lincoln explained.
"Until then we've got dinner to eat," Shaggy said, reaching for the salsa he realized his plate filled with tamales was gone. He did a trouble take and then saw Lana and CJ carrying the platter toward the door. "Hey!" he said, upset by the theft of his food.
"Sorry Shaggy, but we are going to feed the dogs and Sergio," CJ explained.
"It's the least we can do; they are guarding the chest after all" Lana added,
"Ok niños, go ahead, I'll make more for when your sisters arrive." Rosa said. The two of them proceeded to the roof where they had hidden the chest of demons.
Meanwhile it did not seem like the rest of the Loud Sisters would get to Great Lakes City before breakfast the next day. The Moon Goats' rented bus was out of gas. Luna, Leni, Lynn Jr. and Lisa were all pushing alongside two of Luna's bandmates Sam and Sully. Their drummer Mazzy was steering and Lily was asleep in her carseat.
"Sully you know when the gas gauge is at E it means empty, it doesn't mean extremely full" Luna said as she put all of her weight against the van.
"Hey it's European, they drive on the other side of the road there so I took a chance that everything there was backwards" replied Sully.
"Well it's a good thing this street fair is gonna be full of food, because I'm gonna be hungry enough to eat a horse" Lynn Jr. said as she gave the van another heave.
"Well we better make it to the next gas station soon, or we might just miss the whole thing," Sam added.
"At this rate we should make it to one in an hour approximately," Lisa said, out of breath.
"The sooner the better, I just saw a mirage!" cried Leni.
"Leni people do not see mirages in this part of the country or at this time of day. It usually occurs when an overly exhausted individual is affected by an overly humid atmosphere. What do you think you see?" Lisa asked.
"An alligator," Leni said.
"What?" everyone replied.
"Leni there are no native alligators in the midwest!" Lisa added.
"Well maybe it's a tourist," Sam added, wiping her brow.
They quickly forgot what Leni saw. But none of them saw the alligator in the drainage ditch hiding the tall grass. It was being baited by a large steak into a drainage pipe. They would have been baffled by the out of habitat reptile but they would have been even more disturbed when it walked on its hind legs.
Meanwhile back in Great Lakes City, Scooby and Scrappy had taken the first shift watching the Chest of Demons. With them were Sergio and Lalo, the Casagrandes' parrot and dog.
Sergio squawked, "so if this chest is empty why do we need to guard it?"
"Because the ghosts will want to destroy the chest so that they can't be returned to it" Scrappy said he was pacing back and forth holding a mop like a rifle.
Lalo had fallen asleep with his chin resting on the chest. Scooby contemplated waking him up but decided that the large dog's weight would make the chest harder to steal. Just then Lana and CJ came into the room carrying a plate of food. "Chow time boys" Lana declared.
"Bow wow-wow, thanks Lana, thanks CJ" Scrappy said, biting into a tamale.
"How is guard duty?" CJ asked.
"It's gone to the dogs," Sergio replied. "I can't hang around here all night, I've got a life!" He ruffled his feathers.
"'But who knows when one of these ghosts will show up!" Lana said.
"Don't worry about that, my Uncle Scooby and I have taken on Maldor the Malevolent before, we can do it again!" Scrappy exclaimed. Scooby grinned and puffed out his chest in pride. But then the vent began spewing a strange cloud of smoke. From it they could see a pair of horns emerging from a mop of unkempt hair, and two eyes in an otherwise obscure face.
Scooby stumbled back falling over Lalo who woke up, saw the ghostly projection and ducked behind the chair for safety with CJ and Lana. "Raldor" Scooby exclaimed pointing.
"Oh a sneak attack huh! Well I got to warn you Maldor we aren't afraid of you! We know Mr. Van Ghoul put that spell on you!" Scrappy replied, raising his fists at the projection.
"Foolish mortals, will meet again on the field of battle one day but for now I am content to throw my compatriots from the chest at you! In fact you shall meet the first one soon!" Maldor cackled before the smoke dissipated.
Scooby gulped. CJ looked out the window. "I do not see a ghost," he reported.
"Well it probably isn't going to be just a floating sheet" Lana replied.
On the streets below they saw the flurry of alley cats moving along the sidewalk. They paused at the crosswalk as the manhole slid off the sewer entrance. The cats looked down and then squealed in terror and scampered away. A pair of green hands reached out from inside the sewer. Out wriggled 12 feet of green scaly muscle, glowing yellow eyes illuminated the creature's razor sharp teeth.
"Wow an alligator" CJ replied, before Scooby jerked him away from the window. He and Scrappy then took a peek and saw that it wasn't just any old gator, it was the Gator Ghoul. The dogs ducked out of sight, the ghoul had not spotted them.
"Gee Uncle Scooby, the Gator Ghoul was not one of the ghosts we trapped last time. I guess Mr. Van Ghoul was right when he said Maldor changed the lineup.
"Well let's hope the others have figured out how to work that chest!" Lana said, "come on lets' go!"
The Gator Ghoul failed to notice kids. The kids in turn didn't notice when a pair of dimwitted ghosts, Weerd and Bogel, crawled out of the sewer.
"I swear Maldor has a lot of nerve sticking us with babysitting this ghoul" Weerd griped.
"It's sort of like having a pet!" Bogel commented.
"Still I don't understand why he had to change so many of those ghosts!" Weerd continued.
"Maybe he just got tired of them" Bogel replied, but the duo were soon interrupted by a smoke poof from which they could see Maldor's eyes. The two ghosts were startled.
"That is not the reason at all you idiots! This was my plan and I had to make examples of those who accept my leadership" Maldor rebutted.
"Well technically you had to make examples of nine of those demons, wasn't that a little overkill?" Bogel questioned.
"I will replace you two if you don't locate the chest of demons!" Maldor replied then vanished when his cloud dissipated.
"You heard him, let's get going," Weerd laughed. "I can't wait to see the looks on those dogs' faces when they see us!"
"It's gonna be a haunting good time!" chimed in Bogel. "Uhh but where did the Gator Ghoul go?"
They looked around but the Gator Ghoul had wandered away.
Meanwhile back inside the Casagrande's apartment building Lana, CJ, and the dogs recounted the Gator Ghoul's emergence from the sewers.
"I'll be honest when I heard horrific ghosts, I wasn't expecting you to say a giant alligator" commented Lori.
"Grrh, Sid and her family picked the worst week to go to the beach! Her mom's a zookeeper this would have been a piece of cake for her" sighed Ronnie Anne.
"Well capturing the Gator Ghoul is one thing Scoob and I do have experience in. What do you say Scooby Doo, the same sticky trap as last time?" Shaggy said, and Scooby nodded excitedly. "Like Mrs. C, we're gonna need a big mixing bowl! And Mr. C we're gonna need some sticky ingredients."
Hector accompanied Lincoln, Ronnie Anne, Carl, and Luan to the Mercado to pick up all the ingredients they would need. Scrappy followed dragging Scooby by the tail who was clutching Sergio. "Wait for us you guys! We might find the Gator Ghoul on the way" he called.
In the mercado they found a boatload of flour, milk, butter, cheese, and cornmeal. "Mmm, this is gonna be one huge arepa!" Hector contemplated. The original Gator Ghoul trap involved a southern fritter, but Rosa had insisted on an arepa.
"We are gonna give that Gator Ghoul a sticky situation! Hahaha, get it?" Luan joked.
"Well there's still gonna be the matter of finding it so we can trap it!" Lincoln reminded her.
Sergio squawked up, "all you have to do is look across the street!" The kids gasped and carefully peaked over the window sill. The Gator Ghoul was being led on a leash by two ghosts.
"It's Weerd and Bogel! We should've known they'd show up, right Uncle Scooby?" Scrappy exclaimed.
"We've got to get rid of them so we can get the ingredients back upstairs!" Ronnie Anne exclaimed.
Lincoln looked around and spotted a large red box of crackers. "From across the street they might think that is the chest" he suggested.
'And we'll play keep away to draw them away!' Scrappy declared pulling out a small red skateboard.
"Now you're speaking my language Scrappy, Sergio you're helping too, that Gator can't fly!" Ronnie Anne declared.
"Be careful Ronaldo, that alligator looks hungry," Hector said. Then everyone gathered into a quick huddle to work out all the factors of their plan.
Outside Gator Ghoul was dragging Weerd and Bogel like they were nothing. The two ghosts were struggling in futility to control him. "I'm beginning to think it's not a good plan to use a ghost to sniff out a ghost capturing chest!" Weerd snapped.
"But it was your idea?" replied Bogel in confusion.
The Gator Ghoul growled and Weerd then snapped "you stay out of this!" Gator Ghoul growled again and the ghost faded back nervously.
"Yoohoo, dumb and dumber!" a voice called and they turned to see Scrappy Doo mockingly making faces across the street. "Looking for this?" he pointed to the strapped package on his back. "Come and get it!" Scrappy then hopped on his skateboard and zipped down the street!
"Oh we will," Weerd replied, and unhooked the leash of the Gator Ghoul, "sick em."
The Gator Ghoul lunged across the street and set off in pursuit with the other two ghosts close behind.
"Come and get me you crazy Gator Ghoul" Scrappy exclaimed. He skated down the street leaping over benches and scattering pigeons. He lobbed the package like a football to Ronnie Anne who was skating on the opposite side of the street. She caught it and started skating the other way. The Gator Ghoul did not stop chasing Scrappy even though Weerd and Bogel were urging him to go the other way. Finally they decided to chase Ronnie Anne themselves leaving Scrappy and the Gator Ghoul heading the other way. Ahead Scrappy heard a crosswalk switching from walk to a don't walk countdown. He sped up and rocketed across the street gaining massive air on his skateboard. Gator Ghoul tried to follow but was slammed into by a van coming up the street with horn blazing.
In the van were the Moon Goats and the rest of the Loud sisters. After being caught off guard, they turned their confusion to the driver. "Dangit Mazzy what gives!" Luna exclaimed.
"I-I didn't mean to" Mazzy pleaded, she was still recovering from what had just happened.
The Gator Ghoul got up out of the rubble of the bench it had crashed into when they hit it with the van, and growled. "O-M-Gosh you hit my mirage!" Leni exclaimed.
"That is no mirage Leni" Lisa said, a sense of panic in her tone.
"It's a real gator!" Sam cried out.
The Gator Ghoul had seemingly forgotten about Scrappy and was now approaching the stalled van with anger. Everyone inside was panicking. Lily started to cry. Its claws dug into the hood.
"Da-da-da-da-da, puppy power!" they heard. Everyone looked to see Scrappy Doo open up a fire hydrant, sending a blast of water straight at the gator. The monster was washed away down the street.
"What just happened? Sully asked, rubbing his eyes in disbelief.
"A talking skateboarding dog just blasted a monster alligator with a fire hydrant" Sam replied in a straightforward, duh tone.
Lynn Jr. rolled down the window. "Hey, buddy thanks for the save!" she called.
"Scrappy Doo at your service" Scrappy said with a bow.
She then noticed how familiar the dog looked, "wait whoa, as in Scooby Doo?"
"You know Uncle Scooby? Bow-wow-wow you must be the rest of the Louds." Scrappy hopped up on the door and stood where the window slid down into the door. "Let's get out of here and over the Casagrande's before the Gator Ghoul comes back."
"Um, care to tell us why there is a giant ghost alligator tearing apart the town?" Lisa asked. "We've been privy to one of your uncle's mysteries before and the monsters turned out to be holograms."
"And that, little dude, was not a hologram!" Luna interjected.
Scrappy recounted what had transpired earlier as they drove toward the apartment.
At this time Weerd and Bogel were still pursuing Ronnie Anne who was carrying what they thought was the Chest of Demons. "Come on little girl! Just make it easy on yourself and hand over the box!" Weerd yelled.
"No chance!" Ronnie Anne said before grinding down a stair railing.
"My knees would be killing me, if I had knees!" Bogel said, panting.
Ronnie Anne then turned a corner and threw the box to Sergio. Weerd and Bogel turned the corner to see Ronnie smirking and the parrot going up with the package. "I'm guessing you're not the type of ghosts who fly," she said sassily.
Weerd growled. He looked from side to side and spotted a drainage pipe. Smiling at Ronnie Anne whose face fell, he said, "who needs to fly!" Grabbing Bogel he dragged him into the drainpipe and began wriggling up towards the roof, Ronnie Anne could hear both ghosts saying 'ouch' a couple of times.
Ronnie Anne's face quickly rose back into a sly grin as soon as the ghosts entered the pipe. She pulled out her walkie talkie and whispered, "they fell for it, get ready!"
On the roof, Sergio was panting on top of the wrapped box. Weerd and Bogel emerged from the top of the drainpipe.
"Alright bird, give us the chest!" Weerd ordered.
"Hah, you think you're scary! This is Great Lakes City, we've got pigeons tougher than you," Sergio squawked defiantly. But Weerd and Bogel simply grabbed him and tossed off the box.
"Hahaha, we got it!" Bogel cheered. They unwrapped the box and were shocked by what was under the paper. "Bird's choice crackers, jumbo economy size?" he read, "has the Chest of Demons always said that?"
"This isn't the chest you idiot!" Weerd said, slapping his comrade. Suddenly the large box burst open and Carl emerged with a squirt gun.
"Surprise!" he laughed after completely soaking them.
"You think a little water is gonna stop us?" Weerd asked, as the duo both coughed water.
"Actually no, so now we add the cracker crumbs," Carl replied, "hit it!" They heard the sound of an industrial fan turning on, they turned to see Luan and Scooby who had positioned a mountain of cracker crumbs. The crumbs blew at the two ghosts and coated them like a pair of fried chickens.
As they opened their crumb caked eyes, the ghosts looked up where Sergio was now hovering over them with a flock of pigeons. "Alright guys and gals, supper time!" he declared. The birds swarmed them and a dust cloud was created by the struggle. Moments later, the pigeons were fluttering away carrying Weerd and Bogel. The ghosts were struggling to no avail. Sergio laughed triumphantly, "I told them to drop those two in the middle of Lake Michigan."
Scooby waved down at Ronnie Anne, who changed the signal on her walkie-talkie.
"Lincoln, we got rid of the two little ghosts. That just leaves the Gator Ghoul" she exclaimed.
"That's great! I think your Abuela and Shaggy are coming into the stairwell with the trap" Lincoln replied, he talked while sitting with the twins and CJ on the stairs.
A moment later. Rosa emerged with Shaggy and Carlos carrying a massive bowl filled with arepa batter. "Like I love a food based trap" Shaggy laughed.
"Care to explain how that is gonna catch a massive ghost alligator?" Lola asked.
"Allow us to demonstrate," Carlos replied then called, "Mi amor!"
Frida Casagrande came out wearing socks without shoes. "You're sure this is safe?" she asked.
"Sure, there's no Alligator in it yet!" reassured Shaggy.
Frida stepped into the bowl which was sitting on the floor. After two steps she could budge. Carlos steadied her. She could not free herself so Lincoln and CJ had to help Carlos pull her free, the socks still stuck in place.
"Wow Shaggy, that's not food that's rubber. No offense Mrs. Casagrande." Lincoln said, hoping Rosa had taken offense.
"Well It's not meant to be eaten in this form," Rosa replied.
"It's getting late, where are Ronnie Anne and the others?" Bobby asked, sticking his head out the door.
"Don't worry Bobby, she just radioed me, they got rid of the two smaller ghosts. And your Abuelo is there to walk home with her, Carl, Luan and Scooby. She did say they lost track of Scrappy and hoped he got away from the Gator Ghoul" Lincoln explained.
"Zoinks, if I know Scrappy he'll want to try to bring the Gator Ghoul back here hogtied" Shaggy said with a sigh.
Just then he heard a voice all down from below, "you rang Shaggy?"
Scrappy barreled up the stairs followed by the rest of the Loud sisters and Luna's bandmates. "Guys you made it!" Lincoln exclaimed.
"Yeah but the van got messed up when Mazzy hit a massive alligator with glowing yellow eyes" Luna replied, with an accusatory tone.
"Which according to Scooby-Doo's nephew you guys released along with 12 other ghosts in a variety of powers and forms?" Lisa continued.
"Hey, how were we supposed to know?" Lola retorted.
"What matters is that you niños made it here safely," Rosa said warmly.
"Um Mrs. Casagrande' when did you put in this new carpet?" Leni asked. Everyone was confused then looked down to see she was standing in the bowl.
"Like Leni, I hope you're not too attached to those shoes" Shaggy said, with a hint of sympathy.
Meanwhile, out on the had caught up with Scooby-Doo, Ronnie Anne, Luan, Carl and Sergio.
"You should have seen it, Abuelo, first we drenched them, then we breaded them, and then Sergio had pigeons fly them away! Those ghosts were screaming and freaking out!" recounted Carl.
"Well let's not forget that king sized ghoulie gator crawling around looking to make supper out of us!" Luan replied.
"Well they almost had the arepa trap ready. But I'm not sure how exactly we're supposed to lure that alligator into walking into a pile of raw dough and getting stuck" Hector replied. "Oh and I almost forgot, they sent this box of snacks for Scooby." He held up a box of Scooby Snacks and tossed one to Scooby which he happily gobbled up.
"Can we pick up the pace, I don't want to meet that Gator Ghoul before we get back. And besides, I want to make sure Scrappy's okay" Ronnie Anne urged. Scooby nodded emphatically, hoping his nephew had gotten away from the Gator Ghoul.
As they turned the corner they spotted the Gator Ghoul across the street. It had not spotted them but was scouring around where the street fair had been earlier. Everyone went silent ducking into the first open door they could, which was Margarita's salon.
Ronnie Anne called into her walkie-talkie "Lincoln, Bobby, anyone? Come in!"
"Hello Ronnie Anne, how are you?" CJ responded from the other end of the walkie-talkie set.
'CJ listen, the Gator Ghoul is in the park, we're gonna have to think of a way to get past it" she continued. "We're safe for now, we're in the salon, over!"
"And just how are we supposed to sneak past it?" Carl asked.
"We're gonna have to tip the scales in our favor!" Luan replied.
Just then Margarita came in from her back room. "Hey Ronnie Anne, Hector, Carl, anything I can do for you and your friends?" she asked.
"Not unless you have a tranquilizer dart strong enough to work on monster alligators" Hector replied. As they spoke Scooby was investigating the cans of hairspray. He touched on a cap and the spray curled his fur.
"Hahaha, Scooby, you look like Lola" Luan laughed and Scooby joined her.
"Hmm, it looks like the Gator Ghoul is poking around where the funhouse was. He must be looking for the chest!" deduced Ronnie Anne.
Luan wasn't listening, she stared at everything around them in the salon. The queen of pranks was concocting a recipe for a prank that could give them a window for escape. She eyed the dozen cans of shaving cream, the hair dryer, a wig on a stand and soon a plan began forming. Fortunately she never went anywhere without emergency party balloons. "Stand back and let me work," she finally said.
Outside the Gator Ghoul prowled the remnants of the first day of the Great Lakes City street fair. Without Weerd and Bogel to give it directions, the alligator had to rely on its own sense of smell to locate its prey. However, the massive amount of partially eaten tacos scattered on the ground made picking out any particular scents impossible. Suddenly a rolling sound brought it's attention to what appeared to be Ronnie Anne's head. Pouncing, the Gator Ghoul landed on a pile of balloons with a wig on top styled to match Ronnie Anne's hair. The balloons popped and sent a blast of shaving that buried the Gator Ghoul and blinded them.
They cheered as Ronnie Anne used a rope to pull back her skateboard which they had used to transport the balloon dummy. "Thanks Margarita, send us the bill for the wig" she said before they ran for the apartment, with Margarita waving.
From the upstairs window, Maria saw them approaching. "Thank God, they're almost back," she said, thankful they were safe.
"And just in time," Lucy said, surprising Maria who jumped back. "Reading Mr. Van Ghoul's spell book, I've figured out what we have to do to make this ghost go back into the chest."
Once inside Ronnie Anne, Carl, and Luan recounted their outsmarting of Weerd and Bogel. Scooby enjoyed some much needed nourishment in the form of some of Rosa's flautas.
"Well wait until that Gator Ghoul shows, first we're gonna stick him, then we're gonna splat him, then we'll stick him back into the Chest of Demons where he belongs" Scrappy said with excitement.
"Keep your cool Scrappy," Lana replied, "Lincoln, Lynn and Shaggy have the arepa dough positioned on the roof. She took them up to the roof where the bowl was positioned on the edge ready to be tipped over.
"Scoob, this is deja vu, right down to the pair of shoes stuck in the batter!" Shaggy laughed.
"It also reminds me of the time we dumped of a bucket of congealed bacon grease on dad, when we thought he was a burglar," Lynn said, nudging Lincoln.
"See the X on the street, that's where we need the Gator Ghoul to stand when we dump the batter on it" Lincoln further explained. "And Lucy, CJ, Lana and Lola will be waiting behind the front door to get it into the chest"
"Like Linc dude, you have your cousin's knack for trap creation!" Shaggy said, messing with the Loud boy's hair.
"I guess that means my Uncle Scooby and I will get to be the live bait and lure him to the X" Scrappy said excitedly.
"Actually no, our bait is going to be on the window washing gondola," Lincoln added. Scooby, Scrappy and Ronnie Anne looked over the edge where Luna and Moon Goats were setting up their equipment.
Luna looked up and waved, "what's up Scooby dude!" The band was ready to draw the Gator Ghoul to the building with a rocking song.
"Scooby and Scrappy, if you could go help Ronnie Anne's uncle, he's got a job for you too!" Lincoln added and Scrappy happily dragged his Scooby back downstairs followed by Ronnie Anne.
Fifteen minutes laters the Moon Goats started playing an epic song with the catchy hook "what's new Scooby-Doo?". It could be heard from six blocks away, and the Gator Ghoul heard it and came prowling. From high-above Luna and Sam looked down as they saw the massive ghost gator approaching. "He's coming, what do we do?" Sam asked without stopping playing.
"Just keep playing till the cavalry comes!" Luna replied and they shredded into another verse.
The Gator Ghoul looked up angrily at the Moon Goats, but refocused on hunting the kids, reasoning if they were out of the way nobody would be able to reimprison the demons within the chest. But before the Gator Ghoul could get inside, Carlos Casagrande opened the window and cried "Now!" Scooby, Scrappy, Bobby, Lori, Carl, Luan, Ronnie Anne and Lisa began pelting the Gator Ghoul with water balloons. After first the Gator Ghoul was enraged but began to slow as more balloons hit.
"It's working dad!" Carl said, grabbing another balloon out of the cooler where they were filled with ice water.
"Naturally, alligators are cold blooded, so cold water will affect them harshly and apparently it's also true of ghost ones" Carlos replied.
"More pelting, before they melt" Lisa cried before hurling one right between the Gator Ghoul's eyes.
Finally the Gator Ghoul was in position on the X. Luna hit a high-note as a signal. Lincoln, Lynn and Shaggy tipped over the bowl and the glob of dough fell like a rock. It slammed into the Gator Ghoul. Like cement it held the struggling ghost in place.
"Guys, hurry, now!" Ronnie Anne cried.
Lucy emerged carrying the spellbook, Lana and Lola were on either end of the chest with CJ in the middle ready to flip the lid. "Hocus Pocus, spirit rest, return oh return to the Demon chest" Lucy said. The chest began to glow.
"Now" CJ said. He and twins threw open the lid and the Gator Ghoul began to be dragged out of the batter and into the chest. Claws slashing as it tried to get a grip.
Everyone watched with intense anxiety. The Gator Ghoul grabbed the post at the bottom of the stairs, when it looked like it would be able to get a grip. They heard a loud slap, and Rosa's chancla collided with the side of the ghost's head. It let go growling as it was sucked back into the chest.
Everybody cheered! "We got him!" Bobby cheered. "Only twelve more to go!"
Upstairs they heard crying. "Oops Carlitos was down for his nap!" Carlos exclaimed.
"How do you like that, he missed all the action," Scrappy said. Everyone laughed.
The rest of the night they rested, and contacted Vincent van Ghoul to tell him what had transpired. He congratulated them on their first successful capture of a ghost. However, he warned them that the other 12 ghosts could be anywhere. With the Louds returning the Royal Woods soon, it was decided that they would alternate who kept the chest of Demons to further confuse Maldor and his allies. However Vincent felt it was essential that both groups should be able to contact him when necessary.
Fortunately, Lincoln had come up with a plan. "Well you have a second crystal ball, the one Maldor trapped you in. It's linked to the one you gave to Scooby, Shaggy, and Scrappy that's how you were able to contact us in the first place. We just need to get that one and leave it here" he explained.
"A brilliant idea young Lincoln but my home is high in the Himalayas, a trek far too much more dangerous for you to take on top of your current mission" lamented Vincent.
"But not too dangerous for my Uncle Scooby," Scrappy exclaimed. "Once Fred, Daphne, Velma get back we'll fly there and pick it up. Maybe we can pick up a clue to what Maldor is planning." He looked up at Scooby Doo who avoided eye contact. Shaggy tried to argue but before he could complete a thought Scrappy declared, "I'm gonna go call Daphne now! Then I've gotta call Casey and tell him about this," and then darted away.
Just then a tantalizing aroma filled the room. Rosa emerged with two plates of food. "Well a night of saving the city deserves a treat. The kids, Shaggy and Scooby all descended on the plates. Maria took a pause and asked, "um, Mom, are those arepas made from the dough from the trap, with the shoes and socks stuck in it?" Scooby, Leni and Carlota all paused when they heard the question, each already with a mouthful of arepa.
Rosa burst out laughing, "of course not, that glob had been on the ground. I made a double batch." She winked, then everyone laughed.
Later into the night Lincoln, Lori, Lana, Lola, Luan and the Casagrandes talked to Lily, Luna, Lynn, Lisa, and Leni about what had happened. Leni was somewhat distracted by the chore of scrubbing her shoe. "So you see, that's why we have to be ones to recapture the ghosts" Lincoln finished recounting.
"And we know it's a lot to ask of you guys, but…" Lori began but much like with Lucy, she did not half to get the whole request out.
"Of course we've got your back," Luna declared. "This family sticks together."
"Louds for win!" Lily declared. Luan picked her up and hugged her as Lori, Lincoln and the twins smiled.
"Indeed, this is in fact an odd mystery, for example, if this chest was originally in the Himalayas, how did it get to a funhouse in Great Lakes City?" Lisa asked.
"The plot thickens," Lucy interjected.
"Well let's hope the next ghost waits till after the street fair to show up!" Bobby declared. Everyone agreed.
