Hi everyone! I feel as though I have fallen back into my Avatar the Last Airbender obsession :) I loved the ending of this show and wanted to spend some time filling in the gaps with what I thought may have taken place during that last episode.
Disclaimer: I do not own Avatar the Last Airbender. I am just adding my own creative flair to these scenes.
I would love feedback! I hope you enjoy! Stay tuned for Chapter 2.

Chapter 1: The New Fire Lord
We stood in the crowd, conversations and laugher echoing the plaza. It still seemed surreal. Part of me was waiting for something else to happen. Something bad. Things have been so challenging for so long, the idea of Peace was such a strange concept.
I hadn't seen Aang since before he defeated the Fire Lord. Well...I guess I should say before he defeated Ozai. The new Fire Lord would be crowned any second now.
Standing besides me, Sokka and my dad laughed as Sokka demonstrated how he took down one of the Fire Nation soldiers. Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors listened to his story as Toph was hoisted onto The Hippo's shoulders to get a better view. I heard bits and pieces of the conversations around me. I felt uneasy, my attention kept turning to the stage waiting for them to arrive.
"-and then Suki came in and BOOM!" Sokka remarked making frantic hand motions. Suki laughed and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. A small smile escaped my lips at how sweet they were together.
We really did it.
A gong was struck and everyone turned to face the stage. Zuko walked out onto the stage, he looked content and stood tall. Cheers and the sounds of clapping echoed around.
"Please...The real hero is the Avatar!" The Fire Lord said motioning to the Airbender by his side.
Aang walked out and stood besides Zuko as the cheers and claps erupted even louder. I couldn't believe he was the same person that came out of the iceberg. Inside I knew that he was still a goofy kid. Watching him stand on that stage in his Master Airbender Robes, he looked confident. A new strength emanated from how he held himself. His face looked peaceful which was quite the change from when I saw him last. I felt at ease finally being able to see him, knowing he was okay.
For a brief moment his eyes connected with mine and we both let out a slight smile. I felt so proud of him.
"I promised my Uncle that I would restore the honor of the Fire Nation. And I will." Zuko said, breaking my trance. "The road ahead of us is challenging. A hundred years of fighting has left the world scarred and divided. But with the Avatar's help, we can get it back on the right path and begin a new era of love and peace."
Zuko knelt down as a Fire Sage approached behind him.
"All hail Fire Lord Zuko!" The Fire Sage exclaimed as he crowned the Fire Lord. The crowd cheered again as Zuko stood.
Time seemed to blur together at this point. Aang and Zuko soon went back and I am sure were surrounded by people wanting to have a word with them. We said goodbye, for now, to Dad and the Kyoshi Warriors. Dad was meeting with the other Water Tribe Warriors and they were then going to meet us at Ba Sing Se for the celebrations that the Earth Kingdom was hosting. Suki decided to stay with us, which Sokka was certainly happy about, and meet up with the rest of the Kyoshi Warriors in the Earth Kingdom.
Once the crowds died down and we said our goodbyes Sokka, Toph, Suki and I all sat on a bench in one of the Fire Nation Palace Buildings right off of the plaza where the coronation was held. I think we all felt the exhaustion from these past few days as none of us really said a word. Toph tossed around a stone, catching it mid air and Suki rested her head on Sokka's shoulders.
I absent-mindedly played with my hair, staring out the window until Toph broke the silence "He's coming.." Our heads all shot up and looked, Aang appeared from behind a doorway and headed down the hallway to where we sat.
"Aang!" I jumped up and quickly ran down the hallway. I embraced him, tightly wrapping my arms around him. Catching him by surprise, he returned the hug.
"I am so proud of you." I said under my breath as I held him close. He chuckled as I pulled away
"Thanks Katara." He said, a slight blush creeping across his face.
"I-" He was quickly cut off by Toph punching his shoulder "Look at you Twinkle Toes!"
Sokka, leaning on Suki and his makeshift cane made their way over to us. "We did it!' Sokka exclaimed.
Suki chuckled "How are you feeling, Aang?" She asked.
"Grateful." The Airbender replied. "I couldn't do any of this without you all."
I placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "We are a team." I said, smiling. He looked up at me, returning my smile. His eyes locked with mine.
"That's right, Team Avatar! " Sokka laughed.
We all leaned in for a group hug. At that moment everything was right in the world. All the fear and stress from these past months was pushed away. We did it.
