Two months since leaving Capeside

Pacey never thought he'd enjoy being under the hood of a car, preferring to tinker with boats, but Raleigh was nowhere near the water and his host, Mr. Anthony Krudski, a certified mechanic, decided to try something new.

Four weeks in and Pacey pushed away the ever-present depression and heartache, asking Mr. Krudski if he could go with him to work. Mr. Krudski grinned telling him to change into comfortable clothes and shoes.

That first day he paid attention probably more than he ever had in school. The few hours he spent under various hoods, learning how to do oil changes, clean filters and change fan belts.

Working on cars distracted him from the pain he left behind. The deep love he still held for Joey was slowly turning into bitter resentment. He resented Dawson for not having a heart, not seeing the care that flowed between him and Joey. If the shoe had been on the other foot and Dawson was head over heels for Andie he would be irritated if they held off telling him, but he'd be open to them seeing where it would go, but of course Dawson wasn't like that.

He resented Joey for falling for Dawson and his manipulative bullshit. That goddess of a woman didn't have a mind of her own that didn't involve Dawson. How can someone so smart be so dumb?

Sighing, Pacey shook his head focusing on the work before him. Doug somehow convinced the school to give him his first semester work for senior year, so when he wasn't at work with Mr. Krudski, he'd be doing his senior classwork or hanging with Will.

Who knows, maybe he'll graduate early and take the True Love out and sail the seven seas.

Shaking his head again Pacey chuckled. Like that would actually happen. He'll be lucky to graduate and at this rate he will be working at a gas station or as a mechanic. Pop will be so proud.

Pushing his work to the side he tried to focus on something other than the brunette beauty who wouldn't stop assaulting his brain. He welcomed the resounding knock on the door a few minutes later. "Yeah?"

"Pacey? Are you hungry? Dad is grilling steaks." Will yelled down the stairs, the smile obvious in his voice.

Pacey smiled, more grateful for his friend in that moment. "Yeah…sure." Standing up he crossed the room in three steps before taking the stairs two at a time, closing the basement door behind him.
