Wait, what day is it?
Maya had no idea. She randomly woke up in the morning, not knowing what the hell just happened. She was in her room, still wearing the outfit she wore at the party. She was shaking violently, hyperventilating, sweating cold bullets, and hearing voices. The voices teased her, mocked her, told her that she's fake, her friends are fake too, and that nobody loves her. She also had INTENSE alcohol cravings, so she quickly unzipped her jacket, pulled her bottle of moonshine out and gulped down a huge amount of it. Quickly, the voices stopped, the seizures ceased, and she was able to wipe the sweat off her forehead.
As her feelings of intense fear went out and were replaced by her usual euphoria, she was still very confused. What time could this possibly be? Again, what the hell just happened? So, she grabbed the phone, which was in her pocket, and turned the screen on.
7:52 AM, 21st of December, 2019, Saturday.
Okay, so it's the next day... now, what went on yesterday?
Maya tried her hardest to remember. She remembers being outside with her boyfriend and her friend Anke, drinking. Then, she remembers going back inside and dancing for a couple of minutes. Then, she remembers asking to go to the bathroom and then stumbling her way towards the bathroom. And then...
Blackout.
Maya could not remember absolutely anything from that point on. It's like that part of the night did not even exist. But... something HAD to have happened, right?
So, she got in her phone and opened up WhatsApp. The person at the top was Mymy. Last messages were from 10:45 PM. They said.
"Hey, Maya. We need to go now. Where are you?"
Alright, so they all left at around that time. Looking further, the next person on the list was Cleo. Some messages from 7:34 PM said:
"Maya, what's going on? I can see you from the stage. You're acting really weird."
Then, at 7:40 PM, Maya replied saying:
"Nahhhhh ixn olk.. nucr spngs by th ewat."
Cleo replied again just two minutes later saying:
"Uh... do you need help?"
And nothing more after that. Maya had no idea what she was trying to say to Cleo, but knew one thing for certain: she experienced her very first alcohol blackout. And now she's worried. Blackout drunk always means bad news. What kind of embarrassing stuff could she have possibly done? Did anyone else notice her behavior? And, most importantly, did anyone post any embarrassing things she did online?
The next couple of messages were from the group Epke put Maya in last Monday. There were A LOT of messages. The first messages were from 5:30 PM, just half an hour after classes ended. The first messages were from Kiki. They said:
"Hey, guys! Is everyone at the party now?"
Then, everyone replied with some form of "yes".
"Alrighty!", Kiki continued. "Stick in until the show!"
The next messages were from Cleo, at 6:50 PM
"Hey, guys!", She said. "Our show will begin in ten minutes!"
Then, at 7:43 PM, Cleo sent some more messages. They said:
"Guys, Maya is acting super weird right now. Does anyone know what's going on?"
"Don't worry, lol.", Epke replied a minute later. "She just drank a bit too much."
"Wait.", Cleo replied four minutes later. "Someone brought alcohol to the party?"
"Yeah lol.", Epke replied. "They even gave me and Anke a bottle."
"Holy shit, guys, I gotta try some of that after the show!"
At this point, Maya could only thank God that nobody had snitched on her.
The next couple of messages from that group were only sent way after the party, with everyone talking about how much of a blast it was.
Just to make sure, she checked everyone's Instagram Stories for anything humiliating. The only story where she made an appearance was one of Epke's. She was holding him and leaning towards him, almost nodding out. She squinted her eyes throughout the whole thing and had a huge smile on her face.
"Sup, everyone, how's it going?", He said. "I'm here at the school party, having a shitton of fun!" He then pointed the camera to Maya. "My girlfriend's here, wasted as shit!" Maya then waved at the camera and giggled. He then pointed the camera at Anke. "And Anke's here with me too, also having a blast! Ain't that right?"
"Fuck yeah that's right!", She replied in excitement.
"Fuck yeah, let's go!", Epke said before the story ended.
Alright, so nothing embarrassing from Maya got its way online. Phew!
One question still remained in Maya's mind, though: did her parents notice her drunkenness when coming back from the party? She then waited until Mymy was awake, and, 3 hours later, after being certain that she was awaken, knocked on her bedroom door.
"Oh, hey, Maya!", Mymy said after opening the door.
"Hey, Mymy!", Maya replied. "Can I talk with you for a second?"
"Sure, Maya!", Mymy replied.
Then, the two sat on Mymy's bed.
"So, Mymy...", Maya began. "As you might've guessed, I kinda blacked out during the party and I don't remember much of what happened."
"Yeah, it was clear by the way you were acting...", Mymy remarked.
"Sure, but my question is:", Maya continued. "How did we go back home? Like, did mom notice us or anything?"
Mymy then began telling the whole story of how they got back.
Firstly, Maya was dancing. A LOT. Her primary dancing move was leaning backwards as she had one index finger up, pointing upwards, and going up and down with her knees. She fell down at least 5 times doing this dance move. Epke even had to hold her up at some point. When it was time to go back home, though, at around 10:50 PM, Mymy found Maya, got her attention, told it's time to go home, and Maya followed Mymy along. Mymy, however, noticed that Maya was in no condition to pedal back home, so she seated Maya on her bicycle's backseat, held her with one arm, and held the bicycle grip with the other. At arrival, she immediately sneaked Maya back into her room through her window, laid her down on her bed, left her there, ran as fast as she could back to school to retrieve Maya's bicycle, went back home, and went to talk with her parents.
"Did they notice me, though?", Maya asked, still worried.
"No, Maya!", Mymy assured her. "I convinced them that you were so tired that you went to sleep immediately. No worries!"
"Oh, wow!", Maya said. "Thank you, Mymy!"
"You're welcome!", Mymy remarked. "Remember, I ain't no snitch!"
Maya then nodded and went back to her room, comforted by Mymy's trustworthiness.
The day went by as usual. For Maya, at least: she went to play with her sisters, had meals, and even had small talk with her parents.
She promised herself to not get blackout drunk again and just drink enough alcohol to get through the day and be able to talk to people normally. Surely, it won't come backstab her eventually if she maintained this simple routine.
...right?
