"Who or what are they?" Cat asked, as he gasped for breath behind a stone wall. Ladybug reached for his hand. "Us, if we would have become evil." Cat looked thoughtful. "But didn't you their expressions, My Lady? No, I don't think they are evil, they are two people who need love." Ladybug grasped Cat's hand tight. "We have to try, Kitty. We could be there only hope. Let's stay in touch, okay?" They gave each other a silent fist bump, and headed left and right.
Dark clouds covered the moon, and a few splatters of raindrops darkened the ground. Ladybug wished for Cat's night vision, but she did the best she could. Suddenly, she stopped, hearing a sobbing sound. Turning in a circle, she pinpointed the sound coming from the nearby park.
Ladybug winced as the iron gate creaked open, and Toxinelle's head shot up from her position underneath the tree. "Lucky Charm!" she called, a fearsome weapon dropping into her hand. "Toxinelle, I just want to talk. Just give me five minutes, please?"
Ladybug didn't know if was the rain or the pleading tone to her voice who convinced her partner to nod. Then, taking a deep breath, she made a bold move: she detransformed.
"Are you cold?" she asked, taking off her jacket and putting around the other girl's shoulders. "You won't defeat me by buttering me up, Ladybug," Toxinelle declared. "My name is Marinette, and I want to be your friend."
Toxinelle shifted the lush grass. Here she and Claw were trying to get there Miraculous, and here Marinette didn't seem to care about that. "I don't have friends," she snapped, a slight quaver in her voice. "Well, maybe Claw," she relented. "Does your Claw like to make jokes like my Kitty?"
"My Kitty". Did she really not know? "Claw loves jokes, and he makes me laugh. He's my best friend." "Mine too." "You don't know?" "Know what?" "Your Cat's in love with you." Marinette shifted. "Let's keep the focus on you for now. Why are you trying to steal the butterfly Miraculous?"
Toxinelle tried to answer, but she buried her in her knees, sobbing. Then, she felt a light soothing touch on her back. Marinette had put her arm around her. "The Supreme will kill me or Claw if we don't bring the Miraculous. We don't have a choice." "There's always a choice. Cat and I will help you." "Don't you have Monarch to deal with?" "I can do both." "Why are you doing this?" "Because friends care about each other, help them. Love them." Toxinelle took a long shuddery sigh. "Blots Off."
The rain came down in earnest now. Marinette stood, offering her hand. "Come with me, my home is not far. We can get warm and I'll make food." "Okay," the other girl said, softly. The girls footsteps were quiet. "Why haven't you told Cat you love him?" Marinette asked. The other girl sighed. "Because I'm afraid of being abandoned." "He loves you more then you know. Some day you'll understand."
Across town, Cat walked by the Seine. Unlike where Ladybug was, it was cloudy but it had yet to rain. His sharp cat-like hearing was the first to pick up the sound of stones skipping across the water.
"Hey, I thought I heard something," Cat strolled up to Claw, and Claw gave a small warning growl. Cat Noir held up his hands. "Here, let me try something. Claws In." Claw's eyes went from suspicious to surprised. "Why did you do that?" he asked. "To show you I have nothing to hide." "My father and the Supreme, they both hide things from me, and I hate secrets!" "I know how you feel," Adrien answered softly, thoughtfully turning his own skipping rock in his hand. "Then how come your not like me?" "I found others to call my family." Claw sighed, his eyes brightening. "I have Toxinelle." "I could be friends with you too, if you'd like. Us Cats have to stick together."
To Adrien's surprise, Claw laughed. "Your all right, Cat Noir." "Hey, I hear Andre. You want me to buy you an ice cream?"
Hours later, Ladybug and Cat met back up. "Mission: successful, Kitty." they were both quiet thinking. "What did you do to convince them to turn good, My Lady?"
Ladybug stared up at the moon, now peeking out from the storm clouds. "I was myself, and I offered love and friendship."
