Mkay...where was I again? Did I dream all of that or...?
I looked around the room, spotting Roxanne doing her make up again. Welp, guess that answers the question. She must have heard me move or saw me in the mirror because she turned to look at me and smirked.
"Rise and shine sleeping beauty." She turned back around and started, once again, ogling herself. I sat up and stretched, yawning and wanting to go back to sleep.
"How long was I out for?"
She hummed to herself, still choosing to focus on her current task rather than look at me again. "About two hours. It's 5:30AM at the moment."
I sighed. I shouldn't have napped, because that would now fuck up my sleep schedule. Then I suddenly remembered that I've got a night shift job now. A job that essentially requires your pattern to be all sorts of fucked up.
Rip me, I suppose.
You'd think that I'd be freaking out about it nearly being 6AM and me basically sleeping part of the night away on my first night here. Thankfully, or not depending on how you look at it, Mike had phoned up just before I dropped off when I'd gotten back to Roxanne's room and asked if I could do a bit of overtime. He apologised profusely with how short notice it was and oh I don't know, the fact that this is my first night here on the job and I'm already being asked to do overtime, but he said the reason was because the dayshift crew were apparently going to be a few hours late. Fucking great start, guys. Really loving that. He also apologised for forgetting to hand me my standard issue Fazwatch. It was essentially a mobile camera system, along with a messaging feature and some other fairly neat stuff. Until I got it tomorrow though when I saw him, I'd just have to go back to the office if I needed to watch the cameras for any reason. I think all of the animatronics have them as well from what Roxanne had told me earlier, albeit they've not been wearing them apparently all that often. Well, except from Freddy for whatever reason.
And that reason is no doubt because every Fazwatch has his voice as the default voice option whenever you get a text or a phone call. Reminds me a bit of the wolf with that mentality. Damn wolf is rubbing off on Freddy too, it seems.
Mike did say that I'd be paid more though obviously for the overtime so I wasn't going to whine about it too much. He said that they'd probably get here for around 9AM, which meant that I had a few more hours here to spare. I didn't mind too much in all honesty. It's not like I need to rush home. I'd made sure to text my father straight after as well. He also worked a nightshift job so he'd replied to me saying that it was fine at around 3:20AM or so. This place officially opened today at around 11AM so it gave the dayshift crew a few hours to set up after they get their asses over here.
"Daemon? You're not dead yet, are you?"
I snapped my heard towards the voice. Roxanne's. Who else would it have been? There isn't anyone in here except me and her. Seems that I'm still a bit groggy from the impromptu catnap. I shook my head and stood up to stretch a bit more. "Not yet, unfortunately. Was just spacing out."
She stood up along with me and walked over to me. Okay, bit close for comfort there, Wolfie. I saw a hint of...hesitation?
"I'd like to erm, thank you. For saying what you said earlier. I know that you're new here and still getting accustomed to things, but it was still cool to hear. So yeah, thanks."
I looked at her completely confused. It took a moment for me to remember what she was thanking me for. It hit me about 10 seconds after she said it, all the while I was staring at her like a moron. She was talking about when I'd told her that she was the one I was most comfortable with so far. It was cool hearing her actually show appreciation though, considering our first interaction earlier in her raceway made me wonder if she actually had any sort of personality apart from sly remarks and sarcasm. I nodded at her and scooted past, heading for the door.
"No problem. Only speaking the truth."
"Erm, where are you going?"
Looking back at her, I raised an eyebrow. Why did she care where I was going anyway? I was still technically working. "I was going to go and see the others. Chat to them for a bit. I've only really spoken to you and Freddy properly so far. I've interacted with Monty and Chica for all of about a minute."
She stared at me for a moment before turning back around, looking at some sketches on the table that were, I would assume, done by the children who come here. Some of them had scribbles on them, probably her autograph.
"Alright. Tell the gang I said hi and that I hope they don't mess up today during our performance. I want all eyes on me, as they should be."
Scoffing at the comment, I walked out and chuckled. "Yeah no, not saying that last part."
I heard her shout my name after I'd already walked out. Too late, wolfie my girl. Now, to find the others. They shouldn't be that far...
"Hello again, Daemon."
Safe to say, that was the 2nd time that I'd shit myself since I'd been here. I didn't even spin around this time. I just felt a jump in my spine. I tried to contain it this time, however, as I acknowledged the presence now looming behind me. "Hello, Freddy. I'm assuming Monty and Chica are in their rooms?"
I turned around to catch him nodding at my response, pointing over to Chica's and Monty's dressing rooms. "Indeed. I was merely coming to talk to Roxanne about something. Do you wish to see them about something?"
I fiddled with my shoulder. Damn thing was starting to ache again. Must have napped in a dodgy position. Curse you, Wolf. Could have at least woken me up to tell me to move. "Yeah. I just wanted to go and chill with them for a bit, considering I hadn't really introduced myself properly. I only saw them for about 10 seconds or so. I've talked to you more already, even." I pointed at Roxanne's door. "She's still in there. Go nuts."
He raised an eyebrow as I moved past him. "I...do not understand what you mean by that remark."
I chuckled a tad. He may be intelligent, but it seems he's fairly dense when it comes to dumb ass phrases like that one. "It just means go for it. Have a blast. That type of thing." He did an ahh moment and waved as I walked off.
"See you later, Daemon." I waved in response. That was a weird interaction but a funny one at least. Right, where should I go first?
"Eeny meeny miny moe" My finger landed on Chica's room. Guess I was going there first. I walked over to the door, it opening automatically. I still needed to get used to that. Chica was sat in her chair, fiddling with some drawings that the kids had made. They were fairly similar to the ones that I'd spotted in Roxanne's room except these were depictions of Chica and them holding hands and rocking out. Cute.
It didn't take her long to notice me. She gave me a wave with a warm smile. "Oh, hey there Daemon! How're you? How's your first night here?" I smiled in return. Chica was, as I stated before, very energetic and happy. It was nice.
"I'm doing alright. The night is going fine. I've mostly spent it with Roxanne and some of it with Freddy." Her smile widened as she clapped her hands.
"Fantastic! Roxy and Freddy are great! Roxy can be a bit grouchy sometimes but she means well! Freddy is just always stoic about things but I love him all the same!"
I nodded and leaned against the wall, looking at the drawings what I'd noticed when I walked in. "Are those drawings from the kids? I saw some in Roxanne's room as well. She had what looked like autographs slapped on hers though."
She giggled quietly, picking up one of the drawings and showing it to me. It depicted a child dancing with her while she was playing her guitar. She smiled and pointed at something that I didn't notice before. Roxanne was in the background with her arms crossed, looking like she'd rather be anywhere else than where she was in that picture. I chuckled to myself.
"Yeah, that looks about right for Roxanne from what I know about her so far. Cute drawing though. Whoever draw that is talented." I wasn't just saying that, either. While it was obvious to anyone with a working pair of eyes that a child drew it, it was coloured really well. I was impressed. I couldn't even draw a stickman at this moment in time, let alone when I was that age.
Chica's smile only got wider as she giggled. This girl's enthusiasm was contagious as hell. "Awh, that's nice of you to say! Some of the kids that we see here are super, super talented! They're so lovely to us as well. Way better than one of the stinky managers. She's a complete grouch!"
One of the…what? "Hm? One of the managers here isn't too nice to you guys, then? What's their name?" She scratched her beak, which was honestly strange to see, as she took a moment to think. "Ermm…..Melinda! That's the one! She's always mean to us! I don't like her. But the other manager, Mike, is actually really nice!"
I slowly nodded, making sure to take a mental note about this so called "Melinda" character. I was hoping that it wouldn't have been Mike because so far, he'd seem relatively chill. At least to me. Then again, that could have just been because I literally started today. I'd be keeping an eye out for this other manager. Last thing that I need right now is her getting on the fresh blood's ass for still learning how to do shit around here.
"I'll keep an eye out for her. In any case, I better go and see Monty. I've barely spoken to him compared to Roxanne and heck, even you and Freddy." She nodded, shooting me another warm smile that essentially radiated heat.
"Okay! Tell him I said hi! Take care Mike!" I nodded and gave her a quick wave, walking out of the room. Well, that was awfully pleasant. Chica was certainly a friendly one, if not a tad too energetic for my tastes. Next up was Montgomery. I'd only spoken to him that one time earlier for about 10 seconds. Like I said earlier, he was alright and fairly chill. Suppose we'd see what he was actually like. I walked over to his room, the door opening. I walked in and saw him lifting some weights. Thought it was a bit weird considering he doesn't have any actual fucking muscles to my knowledge, being an animatronic and all, but I mean whatever suits him I guess.
He turned at the sound of the door opening and smirked at me, shooting me a wink behind his star shaped shades. A quick side note. I need those glasses. Damn cool pair of shades, I had to admit. This gator had style.
"Yoooo! Daemon! How you doin'?" He put his weights down as he turned around in his swivel chair to put his full focus on me, a detail that I appreciated. I smirked and sat down on one of his chairs, looking at him.
"I'm doing alright thanks brother. Still coming to terms with the fact that I've got a new job and this new job includes talking to animatronics that seem way more interesting and intelligent than a lot of humans that I've met in my life." He chuckled at my response, flipping up his shades for a second so I could see his reptilian likes eyes. Pretty fucking cool. Always liked reptiles and the like.
"That's a mighty fine compliment! I 'preciate it! A lot of the guys and girls that come here though are not too bad. The kids are cool. Some of the parents are kinda borin' though." He flipped his shades back on, looking at his weights. "Listen man, I appreciate you comin' in here to chat to me and everything, but I really should get back to workin' out. Mind if we cut this a bit short? We can catch up later though for sure! You seem like a pretty chillin' dude!"
I nodded, standing up and giving him a quick thumbs up. "No stress. I should probably go and see what Freddy is doing anyway. He's the last one on my list to come and talk to. Main reason why I have come and talked to you guys is because I didn't want you to think that I was some antisocial weirdo."
I mean, I was weird. I just usually try and stay chill. Easier said than done sometimes. Looking at you, video games. Couldn't count the amount of times that I'd smashed a controller like a dimwit just because I took the damn thing too seriously.
Ah, human emotions. Gotta love em, huh?
Picking his weights back up, Monty smirked and waved before turning back around to face his mirror. "No worries broski'! Feel free to come and chat to me anytime!" I gave him a nod of appreciation and turned around, the door opening and closing. This was going surprisingly well. First night on the job and I'd already been chummy with the animatronics. Even Roxanne seemed like she didn't hate me and considering she seemed to have some narcissistic traits, I'd take what I could get. Everything was still fresh to me though so I guess I just had to take it as it came.
I looked at the time. 5:50AM. Still had a fair few hours to go. I don't think I really had that much to do at the moment. Nothing was going on that needed checking, the cleaning had mostly been done by the cleaner bots and the animatronics were just chilling out for the most part. Suppose I better go and see what Freddy is doing. I walked over to his room and looked inside through the glass. Wait…
There was someone other than Freddy in there. I saw two shadows, one looked like a wo…
Roxanne. Wondered what she was doing in there? Meh, probably just chatting to him or something. They were friends and were all part of the same group, after all. I shrugged it off and walked towards the door, it opening with the same noise and speed as the others, closing behind me. I looked forward and saw the two…getting heated?
I say that, more so Roxanne screaming at Freddy and him looking baffled and slightly hurt. I coughed to let them know that there was now another presence in the room, both of them turning to face me. Freddy smiled and nodded and Roxanne just…stared. She looked pretty angry.
Why did I feel like I was going to get it in the ass by Roxanne even though this had nothing to do with me? Whatever this was. I was about to speak up as she cut me off.
"What are you doing here, kid? Leave us be. I need to have a chat with Freddy here." Mkay, so we're back to using kid to refer to me. That isn't a fantastic sign. I look over and Freddy and see him sporting a slightly annoyed expression towards Roxanne, standing up next to her.
"Please show respect to Daemon, Roxanne. He has nothing to do with this debate that we are currently having and he's our new security guard. If you would be so kind, it may be best to continue this some other ti…" Roxanne snarled and scoffed, storming past Freddy and walking past me without even glancing. I turned and saw the door open and close behind me. The hell was that about? I'd only started today and there was already drama. Great. And it was going so well up until now.
I sighed and looked at Freddy, my expression letting him know that I had no idea what was going on. He looked at me apologetically and told me to sit down, to which I did. I sat across from him as he sat back down in his chair, sighing as well.
"I am terribly sorry about that, Daemon. Roxanne came in here to discuss about the situation with one of our managers, Melinda, and her treatment of all of us." Ah, this Melinda person again. Seems I was right to keep a mental note down about her apparent shitty attitude towards the Glamrocks. I'd have to speak to Mike about this. Not like I could say anything to her directly. I didn't particularly feel like getting my ass chewed out and then fired near immediately.
I waved his explanation off, grunting to myself. "No need to apologise. Not your fault. I was speaking to Chica earlier and she also mentioned this specific manager. I said that I'd keep an eye out." He raised an eyebrow at my response.
"Keep an eye out? Please do not take offense to this, Daemon, but what could you do to help at the moment? She is a manager and you are a completely fresh security guard. I would hate for you to get disciplinary action so soon, especially considering that you seem like an overall decent person. You're already more interesting and friendly than some of the prior guards that we've had."
I smiled and nodded in thanks. It was nice to hear someone complimenting me, even if that someone was a giant, sentient robotic bear who played in a band and entertained kids.
That sentence was weird even to me.
"I understand that, but I still don't appreciate the fact that she treats you guys like that. There's no need. I've already noticed that Roxanne has some…issues, I want to say, but she still doesn't deserve to be mistreated whatsoever. All of you guys deserve to be treated the same as anyone else."
Freddy smiled warmly at my response. He stood up and motioned me to stand with him. He reached out and shook my hand vigorously, nearly taking my hand off. My fucking Christ was he strong. What should I expect from a robot bear? He looked at me and nodded.
"While I appreciate that a lot, please just leave it to us to sort out for the time being. The reason why Roxanne was getting so…emotional towards me was simply due to the fact that I didn't agree to how she wanted to go about this situation."
I raised an eyebrow, wondering what she could have said. "And she wanted to go about this how exactly?"
He chuckled slightly, rolling his eyes. "She wanted to throw her out of the highest window in the Pizza Plex, which is around 42 feet down."
I did my best not to burst out laughing at that. From what this person sounds like, I'd have to agree with her. For the sake of the situation though and not making it awkward for poor Fredster here, I just nodded and turned away, trying to hide my laughter. "Ah…I understand. Yeah, that wouldn't be great for any of you or for the Pizza Plex. God forbid you guys get shut down or investigated because she got yeeted out of a window."
He looked at me in slight confusion. I assumed he didn't know what "yeeted" meant. I just shrugged and walked towards the door, waving at him as the door opened. "It's an internet born slang word. Just means throw. Anyway, I'm going to go and check on Roxanne, make sure that she's not breaking anything that the cleaner bots need to mop up. It's been nice chatting, Freddy. I'll see you later."
He nodded and waved, giving me another smile. "Of course, Daemon. My door is always open to you. Thank you for checking in on Roxanne. I would do it myself, however I think that judging by our interaction a few moments ago, I'm probably the last individual that she wants to see right now."
I nodded in understanding and, without another word from either of us, I walked out of the room. This was going to be risky. Even though me and Roxanne had gotten on so far, she barely knew me yet. And with how angry she just was…not sure if I was going to get my face chewed off for this. Quite literally as well.
Eh well. Fuck it. Here goes nothing.
I started to make my way towards her room, preparing myself mentally for the interaction that was about to occur between us. I walked up to the door and let it open, standing in the now open doorway and looking at Roxanne. She had her head in her hands. This wasn't looking good. One of her ears flicked towards me and she sighed in frustration.
"Freddy, please just leave me alone. This really isn't the time to…"
"It isn't Freddy."
She turned around, looking straight at me. She immediately calmed down a tad, sighing again before turning back around. "Oh. It's you. Look, I'm sorry about snapping at you back there. Just…fuckin' hell. I really can't be bothered with all of this."
I honestly couldn't remember if I'd heard her swore yet but regardless, I chose to not comment and instead just let her continue her ramble. She turned back around to look at me. I noticed that her eyes looked slightly red. Had she been crying? She spoke up again.
"Melinda is such a bitch and I really just want to…you know what, never mind. Do you mind giving me a bit of space for now, ki…Daemon? I'm not angry at you. I'm just pissed at this whole situation."
I was going to ask her if she'd been crying and if I could help in any way but, given her reaction, I decided it was best to just leave her alone for now. I simply nodded and turned to walk out of the room.
"Alright. I know that this won't mean much but I'm here if you need a chat."
I wasn't looking at her anymore but I could feel her eyes still burning on the back of my skull. I heard yet another tired and drawn out sigh as I heard her spin back around in her chair away from me. "Thank you. Really. For now, I'm just going to sign some more of these drawings that the kids did. Distract me from this. I'll talk to you later. Oh and if you talk to Freddy before I do, tell him that I'm sorry. It isn't his fault why this is happening."
"Of course. I'll be around." She didn't reply. I just took the silence as my queue to go and finish whatever I needed to do for the rest of the night. Maybe I'd go and see if the cleaner bots needed any help. I walked out of the room and looked behind me for a split second before letting out a deep sigh of my own.
"First night and there's already shit going off. Fun times."
I turned back around to walk away from Rockstar Row before seeing the same cleaner bot from earlier that shook my hand. It was still mopping the same area up.
Pretty sure there was no longer anything to mop up. Silly billy. It noticed me after a few seconds and gave me a wave. I waved back, walking away and out of Rockstar Row. Time to get to work.
