A/N: No ships in this I have to specify hehe and this is the beginning of a six parter for a moment with each main character and Chekov. To kick it off we have the beautiful Nyota Uhura
As always things may be innacurate to fit the story like the communicator scene later(:
"We are very honored with your presence on our ship.", said Kirk as he stood respectfully in front of the transporter.
A federation formed colony based around scientific research and environmental study was rooted on a planet right on the ships course. Now it's leader, a Kenyan woman with a long starfleet past stood on the pad, bowing her head to the young captain.
She used to be a professor at the academy, especially remembered by the ships communications officer. In terms of their relationship, well, if Nyota was Jane Austen's Elizabeth Bennett, this woman was Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
Her name was just one, Xolani.
"Ah, Captain.", she said with a polite smile as she looked around at the room, a glint of shrewdness in her eyes that judged the ships interior.
"You might have a great deal more luck in your alliance and treaty endeavors with your ship's walls being a different color. I suggest pastel blue, it softens the nerves.", she said as she stepped down.
"Thank you Ma'am, that's a worthy suggestion.", said Kirk in reply.
"Now, I would like a look at your cargo bay. If there are supplies I find we are in want of that are in said storage I presume it will be sufficient for us to take what we need.", she said making perfect eye contact and presuming perfect posture.
"Of course, that's what it is there for. Some of the shipments we recently recieved were sent with some accidental misprints. They are correctly labeled but are printed in Kailish, a language of a planet we were to only receive a shipment of grain for. Do to this you will be accompanied by our very proficient communications officer Lieutenant Uhura. She will help translate the labels. Ensign Chekov will also be there to serve as a guide down there, there are many corridors and pathways to get lost in and confused by. He knows the ship like the back of his hand, you are in good hands ma'am.", said Spock very properly as usual, maybe a little extra in the instinct that is afraid of judgement.
"That will be acceptable. Perhaps with a more sufficient labeling system less mistakes will be permitted to happen. I will write one up and send it to the federation myself.", she said with a smile, her chin tilted ever slightly upwards.
As she turned away Spock and Kirk looked at each other. The Vulcans eyebrow raised with eyes that said it all, the Captain silently scoffed with a roll of his own eyes. Both looks meant the same thing.
Pavel and Nyota stood side by side outside of the cargo bay waiting patiently.
After a game of thumb war and two rounds of twenty questions the pair were growing very bored.
"Vut could possibly be taking so long?", asked Chekov.
"I don't know. Maybe she tripped on her pride and broke her lifted nose.", responded Uhura.
"You do not like zis voman?", he asked.
Nyota chuckled softly as did Pavel. "No I do not. Xolani is her name. She's from my home country and was my professor at the academy in interspacial ethics and basic root linguistics. Because of our shared heritage I thought we would get along but quickly found her to be very shrewd with the superiority complex of a Klingon fleet admiral.".
Behind her frustrated words Chekov detected some hidden traces of wounded innocence. Perhaps there was more to it than mere dislike. "Hmm. Well if zere's any opinion I trust, it eez yours. So in zis case it eez good I'm here. Eef nussing else at least you vont be alone vith her.".
Nyota smiled at the compliment and sweetness of her companion. "Thank you Chekov.", she said with kindness and sincerity.
Somewhere on another deck near the transporter room Spock and Kirk escorted the woman down the hall to the turbolift where they proceeded down to the cargo bay.
The footsteps were heard by the other two as they straightened up and plastered on smiles.
"Ahh here we are. They'll take good care of you ma'am. And if there's anything that you need please let us know.", said Jim a little more rushed than usual.
Him and Spock fast walked away passing the buck to the two sorry lower ranked individuals.
"No need to indroduce yourselves I know who you are.", she said with her eye lingering on Nyota.
"Of course, right zis vay miss Xolani.", said Chekov.
"You assume greatly ensign that I am unmarried. You should not use titles you are not positive of.", she replied.
Chekov just nodded awkwardly and continued to guide.
After a few minutes they were standing before large purple and blue containers stacked atop one another.
Uhura read every label, Xolani would say if she required any of it's contents and if so how much, and Chekov would log the information along with the said containers identification number into a padd.
"This is indeed tedious.", said the woman with irritation obvious.
"I apologize. If you would like to take a break guest quarters are right-", started Uhura.
"Oh what insolence! Some things never change do they Nyota. You were made of straw back then as much as you are now.", she berated.
Uhura didn't flinch. She stood up straight with no response. She knew any reply would get her reprimanded. Chekov observed in upsetting silence.
Little did they know that just after Xolani uttered the word 'tedious', the bridge had hailed Uhura's comm. It sat accidentally half open on some cargo case unbeknownst to the three. They were hailed to be given a message from the colony to Xolani. But as heated tones were sensed the bridge listened in further curiosity as improper as it was. The crew was equally bored and intrigued, a dangerous combination.
"Of course you have no response because not only do you believe it to be true but you also lack the backbone to deny it. Do not mistake yourself in thinking I've forgotten your embarrassing behavior at the academy. If not for seeing the documentation with my own eyes I could hardly believe you hail from Kenya. Your weakness is shameful, your improper outspoken voice nothing short of a disgrace. And as for your rank and assignment, I have no inclination of how you acquired them but I certainly cannot think of anyone more undeserving or worthy.", bit the woman.
Nyota breathed quietly through her nose, her eye's glistening making Pavel's chest roar inside.
"Starfleet certainly made a mistake in accepting you though you can't blame them it happens every now and again. But you can't honesly expect-", she tried continuing.
"Excuse me Xolani I need you to be careful vith your following vords. Lieutentant Uhura eez highly respected on zis ship. Not many vill take your insults lightly or seriously for that matter. She is vithout any doubt one of ze best officers in za fleet, not to mention ze best communications officer in all of starfleet history. I believe Kenya to be a beautiful country zat prides eetself in eet's extreme peace, kindness, and acceptance. So in zat case I believe it is you who is the disgraceful embarrassment ma'am. Pardon my outspokenness but I cannot stand by to vatch a fine officer and vonderful person be needlessly and mistakenly criticized so brutely. Are you not avare of her history? Zat she has prevented var vith ze Cardassians on more zen one occasion. She fought off six Klingons vithout a phaser rescuing three dozen prisoners. You should be in awe of her as ve all are. She's also a teacher to whoever seeks it from her, she's beautiful and elegant, and eez ze kindest person I have ever met. I can certainly not say ze same for you.", Chekov finished cooly, his hands folded behind his back. He said it just like Spock would have with all the control in the world though he meant every word vehemently.
Sulu uncontrollably yelled 'Yeah!', but regained helmsman composure immediately as his senses kicked in. Spock and Kirk looked at each other for the millionth time that day this time in surprise but also satisfaction of someone being put in their place by an unexpected source.
The crule woman was completely speechless and visibly furious. Her face was redder than a Rigel Rambutan though she seemed to be trying to keep calm.
"Never have I been spoken to with such insubordination!", she started and would go on and on and on for quite a while.
She left eventually in a huff and the two remaining looked at each other. They chuckled simultaneously and Nyota got on her tip toes to give him a kiss on the cheek. He smiled, 'what a gift' he thought. She took his arm as they walked out of the cargo bay.
As per protocol Kirk and Spock were to give him the riot act and punish him accordingly. When the speech was given though it was given with the undertone of pride. And as for his punishment he was to be Scottys personal assistant in engineering for two weeks. Chekov smiled ear to ear and left with a wink from his captain. He loved engineering, and he loved Scotty. Kirk knew that and so his punishment was secretly a reward. Just something to write in the records to appease the upset colony leader.
Later Spock actually personally thanked him for defending the honor of Uhura. And as for Nyota, well Pavel had never been met with such sweetness. Of course she'd thanked him, but now even more than before she found comfort in the kindness of his eyes and warmth in the words he'd spoken that she could never forget.
A/N: I couldnt write it in but I really wanted someone to say 'don't let the transporter hit you in the butt on the way out' hahaha XD
