Chapter 3: Longing for Each Other
The annoying buzzing of the alarm swept through her as if taunting her of the looming events that would take place that morning. Stretching over to the small bedside table, she silenced the room once again with a push of a button.
The threat of beginning her internship did nothing to wreak havoc on the emotions running through her at the thought of seeing him once again. Knowing that once she did, she would with no doubt fall again into that defeated state of seduction as her senses gave into their craving of his touch.
After spending only one night with Derek Shepherd, she found herself overly indulging in thoughts of him. Of his touch. His kisses. The skillful ways his body captured her own and had so knowledgeably seduced her into an oblivion of passion.
One-night stands were nothing new to her. Tequila and meaningless sex just seemed to go hand and hand through her college days Though she had since given up on the revolving door of boys, she was still dumbfounded by the fact that after only one night she found herself often thinking of the raven haired stranger.
Pulling her knees up to her chest, she sat in the oversized chair staring out at promising signs of morning as the sun was starting to blaze it's purple haze across the skies of dawn. It was a nice distraction. A needed distraction. Today, she would become a doctor-well an intern, but still, today would be the start of what was supposed to be her career…the path to her future. A future that would more than likely involve knowing that her boss had a much more skillful way of using his hands rather than surgery.
Sipping the lukewarm coffee that had done nothing more to spike her reverie, she watched as the city grew to life. The small clock on the bedside table ticking away reminding her that her life was waiting to get started.
After leaving Derek's apartment that dreary long-ago morning she had nearly drowned in the emotions she was fighting to keep at bay. After waking up entangled in his arms she had realized that she had slept the night through, safely in the warmth of his embrace she slept peacefully and that scared the shit out of her.
If she was used to any one thing in her life it was disappointment. Yet, somehow as she laid there watching the even signs of his breathing. She felt herself panicking because for some reason the idea of him turning her away or using the "I'm going to get in the shower and when I get back, you'll be gone," line was much too painful for her to think about. Which in itself was insane because she Meredith Grey was the queen of excuses for the embarrassing moments of the morning after.
So she ran. She had ran as fast as she could out of that apartment as fear guided her and she slowly accepted the fact she would never see the alluring stranger again. That, was until Cristina had announced that he not only worked at Seattle Grace but he was also the new head attending of Neurology.
Sighing, she sat the cup down and traipsed to the bathroom. Dropping her robe onto the marble countertop, she reached into the shower and began her routine. The water streaming to life as it quickly filled the small room with warmth that enveloped her cooled nakedness. Stepping into the confines of the shower, she allowed the water to pour over her. Her nipples hardening into pebbled peaks as her body adapted to the warmth.
This was the time she would allow her mind to wonder. Drift if you will. Closing her eyes, she permitted her hands to trail over her skin. Images quickly filling her mind as she remembered the way his hands had felt. So strong and yet gentle in the demanding way he touched her as if forcing her body to respond to him. He was the kind of lover who held just the slightest sense of satisfaction by watching their partner climb peak to peak before seeking out that same heights for himself.
Losing herself in the realm of fantasy, she suddenly felt his arms encircle her from behind. Imagining the way his hands would span the width of her hips as he teased and tormented. His breath fanning her neck as a constant reminder of his wants-the length of his cock teasing the ache that had settled between her legs demanding full acquiescence from her.
Resting her head against the coolness of the tile her fingers danced along her skin, tangoing with desire she allowed the palm of her had to be a comfort as she sought out that raging desire and allowed her fingers to tantalize her clit. Closing her eyes, she fell into the trance of his seduction recalling the graze of his lips along her neck. The gentle nips and bites that had caused her pussy to tug and contract around his fingers was a distant memory and yet sent a trail of goose bumps racing across her flesh as she teetered on a crescendo of release…
"Meredith, you in here?"
The fantasy crumbled around her as she quickly stood at attention as the curtain pulled to the side and the coolness of the room chilled her overheated body.
"Hey good your up. You nervous?"
Fighting to gain her composure she smiled as she fought to calm the trembling that still threatened her weakened knees as her body revoked at the idea of losing that wonderful euphoria that had only moments past been in control.
"Nervous-um not really. Just anxious to get it over with." watching as Finn slipped the sweaty t-shirt over his body. The sight of his chest doing nothing to requite the desire that had only moments ago been blazing through her veins like acid. "Umm what are you doing?"
A smile lurked upon his lips as he leered at her nakedness his eyes darkening as he admired the slopes of her breast sending a chill down her spine that had nothing to do with desire. "I thought I would join you, since I'm all hot from running. Maybe help ease your nerves so you can start the day out right.
"Actually, I was just getting out." Offering up a phony frown of apology, she stopped the free flow of her shower and reached for her towel "maybe later?"
Finn nodded and tried tempting her with the pitiful heartbroken puppy look, but she just brushed by him, making her way to the fogged mirror that thankfully hid not only her view of his nakedness but also refrained him from seeing the disappointment she was sure was shining through in her emerald green eyes.
She should feel guilty, after all he was the person she was sharing her bed with but somehow the feelings he evoked in her had done nothing but slake in their intensity sense they got back together.
After her little tryst with the hot doctor, she left feeling alone and when Finn had come back pleading and begging for forgiveness, she gave in to his claims of insanity and empty promises of love. Staying with Finn had nothing to do with love or sex and everything to do with the avoidance of being alone. Sad really, but then again what was Meredith Grey but sad in a dark and twisty sort of way.
Her feet padded across the ceramic tile as she made her way into the bedroom. Standing before her bed, she toweled her body dry and dressed quickly. Hoping to avoid Finn after his shower, knowing that he would use every opportunity available to quench his needs before she left for work.
Sex between the two of them was decent-on occasion satisfying, however after Dr. McDreamy everything seemed to fail in comparison. Finns weak and calloused hands could not evoke the same intensity of desire that she had the experience of knowing. The somehow clumsy and awkward thrust of Finn as he used and abused her body could not delve into the depths of the pleasure that Derek had induced in his urgency to please.
Sighing, Meredith yelled out a quick goodbye and headed out of the room. Not waiting for a reply, she used the opportunity to head out of the house and off to Seattle Grace. Hoping that somehow, she could live up to the great reputation of the Ellis Grey or at least die trying, because nothing less than extraordinary would be expected.
Standing, amongst the many windows that lined the hall Derek watched as the sun finally came to full staff and settle amongst the skies. Sipping on the cold weak coffee from the cafeteria, he concentrated once again on breathing as he gathered and composed his self for his first full day as an attending. Knowing that many of the young interns that walked through the doors of Seattle Grace that day would be expecting greatness out of him.
Staring out over the parking lot, he caught site of a honey kissed blonde as she stepped from her car. For a moment, he was swept away in a haze of passion as his body and mind recalled another blonde beauty soaked in lavender that had tempted and teased until she had been embedded into memory.
Two months had passed since his far from usual one night stand and the memory of Meredith Grey just would not seep away. Just thinking about her caused a stir in his groin that caused his hands to grip and squeeze the railing of the catwalk in frustration.
Meredith Grey. Her name flowed off his tongue just as sweet as the honey that had seeped from her body. Closing his eyes his mind replayed the way she had looked as she rode him. Her hair flowing freely in soft waves around her shoulders as her milky white breast hovered above him tempting him to take the soft raspberry of a nipple between his lips. Shuddering as he felt her clench his thickness with each soft tug….
The sound of voices broke through his secret fantasies, and he sighed deeply knowing that was all they would remain because Meredith Grey was not interested and had simply become a memory that refuse to be forgotten. Tossing his cup in the trash, he smiled as a group of fresh young female doctors walked by giggling in their naiveties and new surroundings.
"Ahh fresh blood. Who can resist?"
"Well, you hopefully or Cristina will have you by the balls."
Mark chuckled as he joined his friend in the elevator "Yeah, well she will just have to get use to my status here in the hospital. I can't lose my reputation just because my girlfriend is now an intern."
Derek shook his head at the absurdity that was Mark and then stopped in his tracks "wait-did you say Cristina is doing her internship here?"
Shrugging Mark nodded "Yeah. Didn't I mention that?"
"No. No you didn't. Well, what about Meredith. I mean you say they are pretty inseparable , so does that mean-I mean is Meredith going to be working here as well?" he tried to gather hold of himself but by the shit faced grin that played upon Marks lips he knew he was not succeeding.
"Why would you want to know Shep? Hoping for another go round with the hot blonde. That must have been quite the horizontal mambo if you're still pining after her."
"First of all it's tango-horizontal tango, and second no one is pining after anyone I'm just curious."
"Sure you are Shep. Actually, I don't know, neither do I care." Mark grinned as the elevator doors opened and he stepped out onto the surgical wing laughing at a very puzzled and curious Derek.
If he could he would kill Mark, but he couldn't so he would just live with the thoughts of torture that played through his head as he watched him walk away.
"Ahh Derek just the man I am looking for."
Turning Derek greeted the chief, "good morning chief."
"Good morning it is. We have a fresh new group of interns walking our halls. Do you know what that means Shepherd."
"A busy day sir?"
Frowning the chief sighed, "get with the program Shep. It means fresh slates. Untouched minds here to learn and breathe medicine. Breathe that in Shep, relish in it and take advantage of teaching and molding them to your ways, after all they will be your right hands through the next few years."
Nodding, Derek noticed another group of interns. His eyes mindlessly seeking out every blonde that walked into his path.
"So, I would like you to meet with the interns today-be there as I introduce myself and the other attending as well."
"I'll be there chief," glancing down at his watch he nodded "an hour?"
Nodding the chief walked away leaving Derek to scan the halls sighing in the frustration of not only not seeing the person who was stealing all his thoughts and concentration but also at the fact that a perfect stranger was driving him insane without any intentions of doing it.
The sudden ferocity of lavender hit his senses with a force and he stopped in his tracks as a familiar giggle filled his space and a sense of euphoria swept through him. Stepping back, he stood hidden from view as he watched her come into plain site. Her grey cashmere sweater hugging her body almost as gracefully as the deep blue denim hugged her ass. She wore her hair down just as she had the night they met only it had grown just a little longer and now laid much beyond the slope of her shoulders and he inwardly thought of what it would feel like to have that hair once again wrapped around his hands as he fucked her like an animal in heat.
There was no denying that this woman brought out a side of him that lie dormant for years but now that it was released it begged to dine on only one nectar and now knowing that she was actually here brought a smile to his face because he would have Meredith Grey again.
"So, are you worried?"
"About what. Running into sex God. Yes-no. I don't know. I mean it doesn't matter because it can't happen again. I'm with Finn and he's my boss and I'm with Finn."
Laughing, Cristina just shook her head in mockery. "Yes that 's right just keep reminding yourself that you have emotionless, dreary Finn to go home to. I mean you have the best sex of your life and you're just going to forget about it, just let it go so you can spend the rest of your life with a man you don't love that wouldn't know a clit if he bit it!"
"Cristina!"
"Oh, come on Mer. I know how you trudged around in a self-alluded depression after your little tryst so don't tell me you're not even for a second thinking of Dr. McDreamy.
"I'm not, and stop calling him that. You make him sound like a gigolo."
"Well, I would gladly pay him to bring you to the peak of screaming orgasms if it would get you out of this funk you are in. We are interns. Doctors, Mer. So, if you don't snap out of this and do something to get out of this shit hole state of mind, I'm going to pull your screaming ass out of it myself."
Eyes wide Meredith stared at Cristina completely oblivious to her surroundings until his voice broke through her reverie and shook her to the core.
"You left, without saying goodbye. That's not very nice Dr. Grey…"
