Outside the grill Ric was hanging a sign for the latest charity drive with Jenna.
"I don't know it's just weird me being raffled off like a Disney cruise,"
"In this town fundraising is like indentured servitude, you don't have a choice,"
"How's Eliza doing I haven't seen her around school lately,"
"Oh she tested out, we had some family issues arise and I gave them all the option to test out or keep going. She chose to test out cause she is the oldest and it was her final year,"
"Understandable she didn't want to take the experience from Elena and Jeremy. Well I hope she's okay,"
"She will be, thank you for asking Ric," Jenna sincerely was happy he cared about Eliza it meant a lot to her.
"Anyways you're a bachelor and you're eligible so there you go,"
"Here let me help you with this," Ric reached over helping attach the banner for Jenna.
"There we go," he said as they shared a smile.
It wasn't the only thing they shared cause as Eliza pulled up to the grill for the first time in a awhile she came upon Jenna and Ric kissing.
She giggled along with Jackie who both leaned out the driver window leaning on her arms smirking.
Jenna could tell she was being watched and pulled away turning around seeing Eliza.
"Hey you came out of the house,"
"Yup at a awesome time,"
"Oh hush you,"
"Hey Ric!,"
"Hey Eliza how are you?,"
"I'm okay, I'm not quite 100 percent yet but I'm healing to there,"
"That's all that matters, take your time healing happens on your clock," he said giving her a sympathetic look.
"I'm totally going to ruin this moment but, Elena recently found out she was adopted. She's been looking for her birth mother whose name is Isobel,"
"Isobel? Like my wife?,"
"No Isobel never had a baby,"
"Are you sure? Not before you were together?,"
"Nope, no way," he crossed his arms surprised at the information he was finding out.
"I was adopted too Ric, part of what I was dealing with. I'm a founding family all on my own," she laughed at the sad irony.
Jenna reached into her back pocket pulling out her phone pulling up the photo they had found.
"This is Elena's birth mother," she said handing Ric the phone to look.
"She...she never told me," Ric looked stunned as he looked at a photo of his wife.
"I uh I'm gonna go. Yeah I'm gonna go," he said taking off as quick as he could.
"Don't worry aunt Jenna he is just in shock. He literally just found out the woman he loved and married had a child when she was a teenager and never told him,"
"You're right I hope he will be okay,"
"He will be he just needs time to process," she said reaching out grabbing her aunt's hand.
Stefan stood in the square waiting as Ric walked up.
"Thanks for meeting me, something's came up,"
"Jenna told you,"
"Yeah,"
"So it's true, your wife Isobel was Elena's birth mother,"
"What does Elena know?,"
"About your wife?,"
"About everything? About you, about your brother?,"
"She knows what I am, and she knows that you know about the vampires,"
"Does she know about Damon and Isobel?,"
"No. I couldn't tell her not until I was sure,"
"You said you'd help me,"
"I asked Damon, he doesn't remember,"
"Ask him again,"
"Damon is not stable right now,"
"He murdered my wife, or at the very least made a meal out of her. When has he been stable?,"
"I'm telling you not to push this,"
"Give me a reason not to,"
"Your survival how's that for a reason? I'll handle it but for now I need you to let it go,"
"Is that what you'll tell Elena? Let it go?,"
"Leave Elena out of this,"
"I need to know what happened. I'd think you would too,"
"I need something more then just your wife's name. A picture, something I could show Damon," Ric nodded taking a photo out of his wallet handing it to Stefan as he turned and left.
Inside the grill Eliza, Jackie, Jenna, and Jeremy were hanging out in a booth talking and munching on cheese fries.
Ric sat at the bar and Eliza would look over every one in awhile as would Jenna to check on him.
It was Eliza's turn to look over when her breath caught there sitting beside Ric was Damon.
"First time seeing him in awhile?," Jeremy asked seeing how she froze.
"Yeah,"
"Do you hate him?,"
"No, he gave me the chance to bury my parent's in the family crypt, I will have the chance to have closure when Nik get's back. I could never thank him enough. Now I just need to get my stuff out of the storage unit he has it in when he is ready. He was hurt as well with the bitch not being in there,"
"True, I'm sure at the right time he will come to your house and take you away to gather your belongings," Jenna agreed as she reached over patting Eliza on the hand.
"Bourbon," Damon ordered sitting down at the bar.
It was then he heard her voice. As he listened to what she said a small sad smile graced his lips knowing she didn't blame him for what she went through.
"Behold the teacher. Don't you have some papers to grade?,"
"It's more fun with a buzz,"
"Well most things in life are, sober's depressing,"
"You don't strike me as somebody who gets depressed,"
"You say that like you know me,"
"Nope, it's just a hunch. You have a good afternoon," Ric said getting up to leave.
"Not likely,"
"Daytime drinking huh?," Sheriff Forbes said as she stood beside him.
"It's all the rage,"
"Listen I need a favor,"
"You ever been in love?,"
"Excuse me?,"
"Have you ever been so bent on someone just to have your heart ripped out by them?,"
"You forget I was married,"
"Right, gay husband. She'll have what i'm having," he ordered for her too.
"Sit down," he said patting the seat.
"Look there's a fundraiser here tonight that the founder's council is throwing. The town's most eligible bachelor's get raffled off for dates, and well we're short a bachelor,"
"Is this what you do when there's no vampires? Organizing bachelor raffles?,"
"Trust me at this point I miss the vampires,"
"You're a hero to this town Damon. I know most people don't know about it, but you are. And you're single, and a catch. Oh come on help me out. Carol Lockwood won't let me live it down if I come up empty handed,"
"You know a room full of women clamoring to win a date with me? Sounds tasty,"
"Thank you,"
"One thing, Can you get information on someone for me? Alaric Saltzman the history teacher? There's something off about him, and I just wanna make sure the high school did their homework on this guy,"
"You got it," she said placing the drink in front of Damon.
"Thanks," he said going back to drinking.
Elijah and Harper were walking around the town square. He was in awe at how the town had changed and Elijah knew it was a lot to see a home changed from something you knew to something way different.
He had made sure to get him a updated change of wardrobe though so at least Harper was walking with him in a t-shirt, active wear pants, and a decent jacket.
As he looked around Elijah could tell he was getting overwhelmed it was hitting him all at once.
Placing a hand on his shoulder Elijah guided him out of the square knowing that he had had enough for the moment.
What Elijah didn't know is that he had seen another tomb vampire.
